As a point of reference for Americans, Barkly is 30 degrees south which is similar to northern Mexico, Texas and northern Florida which are 30 degrees north and all can get snow... but the biggest determinant being altitude. Barkly is at 1,790 m (5,870 ft), similar to Denver Colorado... so snow must be relatively common there.
Sounds logical all right, but the fact is that it has NOT snowed there since the early 1960s (62/63 or thereabouts)...That's 60 years, so...not normal at all.

@@sidetrack218 That is interesting, isn't it? I have to confess that I'm not an expert Berkly East's snowfall records per se but do know the general area quite well and know it as fairly common to get snow being in the Drakensberg. Yeah our seasons are inverted. When it’s autumn here, it’s Spring in the North. When it’s Winter up there, we’re enjoying summer here. I grew up in a cold town, where temperatures went to -7celcius in Winter. Which feels like Siberia for us, we’re used to mild temperatures throughout the year.
I would imagine, just as we have been dealing with polar vortex in the states, that the Geyers that surround Antarctica must occasionally wander north to South Africa, and cause trouble there
Well it may get more snow considering its location but it rarily sees snow in SA .last time was 2012 when SA got snow ..but like he said it's like Denver Colorado altitude so it might see more than any of SA
south africa gets snow pretty much every year in the mountains. and in Lesotho (the actual mountain country inside south africa) at this time of the year they usually have freezing temperatures in the early morning
certain areas especially the mountain tops surrounding the Cape Peninsula , snow is common but not this time of the year. It's suppose to be Spring currently but apparently not

Correct. I don't know why some people think it's summer. They missed something in school - like opposing seasons in the northern and southern hemispheres.
