the 01 neon is a lot different, don't have to pull the harmonic balancer just the power steering the radiator and hoses the fan the top and bottom mounts then unbolt the front while the engine is jacked up as far as you feel comfortable slide it out clean it off and then the timing belt the back of the housing then the water pump

good video actually, thanks. I have a 95 2.0 coupe. Needs a throw-out bearing also considering just hoisting whole engine doing all this stuff at once. either way great to see a visual record, thanks

Great video, Nathan! Unfortunately we can't change a part with an OBD scan tool..... now i will have to get dirty, and change this also. I hear a sound which starts/begins when my temperature starts going up slightly.

That water pump sounds like it's made of really cheap metal pot metal. You would think they would make somewhat better quality parts but then this was when they were cutting back on quality and trying to bring down cost for them to sell.

I was talking to a Dodge tech mechanic over the phone he told me these cars need to be serviced every 3 years because the parts just don't last on them. I know he said they made a update on the head gasket and that all their engines 2.0 SOHC and DOHC engines had gaskets that failed before the update a lot so now they are suppose to be somewhat better but I don't know how much better. I'm really considering junking mine out even though it's been through several accident's that should of totaled it each time but it's a tough little car and has been really great for power and economy but maintenance is a huge pain because of labor costs and parts.

I'm about to buy a 99 plymouth neon with only 98,000 miles. Perfect body. I love the gas miles 33.5 in my last one with AC!

Check when everything was changed and serviced as I'm sure you know. The timing belt should be changed around 90,000 ish miles as the service manual states in maintenance schedule. You should ask for proof of who did the work and have receipts or something. Check the all the fluids and what color they are and all that stuff. I got my car as a hand me down and there was some service work done to mine but was neglected. Is it a DOHC? mine is and is a 99. Oh also check the instrument cluster if something doesn't work on it add sotter to it. I had my whole dash die while I was driving and I soitered it and it started working again but I was told it doesn't work with every car because some still don't get fixed. You can find that info online. It's not that hard to take the dash apart and take out the instrument cluster. Messing with the engine bay is the worst on this car but dash isn't that tough so far that I have messed with. Oh is it an automatic or stick? If I had the opportunity I would try the stick/ 5 speed instead of a 3 speed auto like the classic muscle cars, except they aren't that tough. Worse part about the tranny is that the auto get's you not so great of mileage but you can climb hills like it's no prob if you have the DOHC engine.

You didn't have to take the power steering pump off, or the thermostat housing

I just laid the pump back towards the firewall, and worked around the radiator hose to get the 2 power steering pump bolts out .

Question....when putting the new belt on and adding Tension...I noticed in some videos that the cam will move forward once that tension is applied leaving the marks not lined up. Do you normally lock the CAMS when removing the old and adding the new belt?

why remove crank pulley to remove water pump? or the timing chain/gear/belt

@@FixingWithPassion Mine is a South African made Chrysler Neon LX, 2004. Aut, 2.0L, its the beast too. Though, i heard a water pump clicking noise when the engine starts to warm up... and today, temperature went mad! I flushed the radiator and threw in new coolant (temporal fix), and now the temp is better.

I've got a 2005 SXT with 251,000 on it. I had this done at Sears about eight years ago @ about 130,000 miles. I think it cost me about $580 ? The old timing belt still looked pretty damn good somehow. Anyway, my water pump is leaking pretty bad now, so I'm gonna try it myself. Can't really complain about this car though. I haven't really had to do anything to it for about four years. had to replace the oil pressure sensor about 2 1/2 years ago & change the oil of course. Other than that, its been good. However, yes, this is gonna be a big pain, especially for a hack mechanic like myself.
