i so can relate about the romance thing... i used to enjoy romance novels sometimes but i can't do it anymore, so many of them are cringey or just messed up. at least horror books know they are being creepy and weird 😩
Kenya, you should make a storygraph account- it’s a book app that shows all your stats in the year & you can go through them monthly too. It would be so fun to see your stats at the end of the year! It’s so organized.
Yesss mood reading 2025. So many of my reading slumps come from trying to plow through as many books on my TBR as possible. I'm having so much more fun picking things up on a whim and letting my libraries availability choose my fate.
i love the cardigan. also you're so real about wanting to read dark books about people struggling cause those are usually my favorite types of stories, book or film 🫣
I’m loving your goals this year and the reflection you did to get there. Regarding romance, if it’s your style, I always encourage people to read queer romance. It just hits different. The character arcs, the emotions, the exploration of love and development of emotional literacy, the angst, uuuuuuugh!!!! All. The. Feels. Romance is my primary genre and I’ve found queer romance and romance written by BAME/BIPOC/POC authors hit so different than other books do. Yes there are exceptions to the rule but when I think about some of my favourite romances, they fit those categories.
My only reading goal in 2025 is - well it's really more like a guideline than a goal - to only read books written by female authors. After 2024 I'm just sick and tired of male bullsh!t hahah 😅
I'm trying to get through my physical tbr cuz it's getting crazy, but i've been reading them based on mood which has def helped, so i hope your reading experience improves this year!! Loove the idea of reading books like they're the last you'll ever read, i'm going to have to try that as well!
You should try Jean Christophe grangé (crimson rivers) if you like dark murder mysteries. Mike Omer and Donnato carrisi are good thriller authors too. And if you want it dark and painful, a little life is an interesting reading experience as long as you know what you’re getting yourself into.
MOOD READING is life. I've only ever made one TBR in my life and never stuck with it - I love the CHAOS of the unknown of what my next book will be 🤣
"you gotta stay curious around your joy" oh that got me
