  • In this episode I look at the Spyderco ClipiTool with Scissors and compare it a Victorinox Classic SD with Alox Scales. I pay special attention to the scissors offered with both knives and test their cutting abilities against several different mediums!

      I like the Spyderco and use it quite often but it really does depend on what you're cutting. For most chores the Victorinox will do just fine. Also, that Spyderco has almost doubled in price since I first bought it.

    Well chosen mediums in your scissor capability test! IMO it's pretty hard to beat the utility of a Classic SD for a small keychain knife (which I use.) Thanks for your effort in making this great comparison video!

      Thanks. I'm glad you found it useful. No doubt I'm biased when it comes to the Classic's Scissors. They are often my go to scissors for any scissors tests. But I think plenty of people are familiar with them and and have used them so it make sense to compare others to them. Thansk for watchign and your continues support.

      Similar to your thoughts on Case knives being a standard to judge Traditional knives by, I agree that Victorinox folding scissors fit the same standard. Thanks again!

    Years ago leatherman made the pst or maybe it’s just the ps specifically for fishing they were the best (bar
    Victorinox) scissors I’ve used.

      Leatherman does a great job with their tools. I'm not sure why they don't appeal to me. I definitely cannot fault a person for choosing them over a Swiss Army Knife.

      It's a nice little slip joint. I think some would consider it a tad over-priced. No doubt part of the price is the Spyderco name but it is built to last. Thanks for dropping by!

    So I’m not the only person who is not a big Spyderco fan! I only own one Spyderco in a collection of nearly 100 knives. I do have three Victorinox SDs, two Alox and one celador. I also have a jet setter which is what I keep on my keyring. It doesn’t have a knife blade, but honestly I don’t really miss the little baby on the ST. After all are usually have another knife somewhere about my person. That might be my pioneer X or claimer Victorinox knives or one of my 60 odd UK legal slip joints. I really like the Pioneer X scissors.

      Slick Slicers, I would go as far as not a fan. I’ve just recently picked up a Byrd Meadowlark that I’m having fun with. I also recently grabbed a Dragonfly. It took me a good ten years to make the leap, however. Just not much into modern folders.
      At the same time, percentage wise that well below 1% of my collection. 3 knives (if you include the Byrd) out of 600+ knives.
      Thanks for dropping by. Really enjoying your channel!

      Knife Chats with Tobias I’ve bought a few modern folders, but almost all are slip joints. Only one Spyderco, the UKPK, and then a couple of Benchmade Propers, Many Wasps and of course my beloved Enzo PK70s! Mostly the rest are traditionals. Thanks for dropping by!

      It was also nice to see that the scissors on one knife worked better at certain tasks. So neither was really bad, all around. It really comes down to what you want to do with those scissors.

    A very helpful video, Thank you. For Christmas I got a Leatherman Micra and I tried to use it to cut open a plastic bag of Legos for my Grandson and it couldn't do it. I had to use my Victorinox 58mm scissors and they went through the plastic like a hot knife through butter. The Micra worked on things like paper and performed much like your Spyderco. Sorry about the ramble lol.👍BTW I believe the Spyderco weighs about twice as much and would be cumbersome on a keychain. I'll stick with the tried and true Victorinox. I once removed a Doorknob with the screwdriver.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the info on the Micra. It is interesting that different scissors will work better on different materials. I wonder how they are tested in the factory or if they are tested. Appreciate the ramblings. It makes for a more enjoyable time on the channel. I trust you spent as much time with the Legos as your grandson. I know I would!

      BD H, no doubt. This is main reason I decided to cut multiple items in the demo. It’s really no fair to just cut paper. I mean they could both be epic fails if I chose to cut single ply toilet paper! Thanks for watching.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  5 лет назад

      , looking at it but not too sure. I'm not crazy about the blade geometry and the fact that it is only four inches closed. I really like my toothpicks to hit 5 inches closed.

    Nice comparison, never owned a Spyderco, you did a great job with the scissors comparison, :)

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias

      This was the first Spyderco, I ever bought. I followed it up with the Byrd Meadowlark (the Spyderco Budget line). I've since bought one other Spyderco and I'm looking at a second one. The byrd line is pretty nice and a lot cheaper. The primary difference is in the blade steel. The byrd line uses 8Cr13Mov (similar to AUS8 or 440C) which is still pretty decent for everyday use. They are made in China whereas the Spyderco line is made in Japan. Knife snobs might wrinkle their nose at a byrd knife but if you're on a budget and want a good knife then as the song goes: "the byrd is the word!" Thanks for watching and thank you for your continued support. I really need to finish my Dragon Wagon!

      I'm working on number 5! This time, I'm opening the little trap door and the back! I've also fixed the bent bars and I'm going to swap the engine with the one in the Paddy Wagon. Also thinking about giving it the cab of the Hangman, if it will fit. Should be fun.

    I find nothing cuts like Victorinox scissors. I'll reach for my huntsman scissors over my SOG multi-tool scissors every time.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  5 лет назад +1

      I am also biased toward the scissors on the Vic. One of my reasons for using them in scissors comparisons is because they are well known in the knife community. To me, if you're going to put scissors on a knife, you should expect them to be compared to those on Victorinox. Thanks for watching and your continued support.
