    Such a beautiful pen, Emy!!! On this grail pen, I would love to try the #8 nib in fine. As always, I enjoy your informative videos. Be well & stay safe.

    I believe the two #6 nibs are Jowo nibs, not Bock. You would have to look at the #6 feed (Jowo feeds are flat at the end and Bock nibs have a "scoop" at the end), but as far as I can tell, Jowo nibs have the two sweeping lines along the edges of the nib whereas Bock nibs are plain (there are no two lines), although "actual" Bock (as opposed to manufacturing a speciality nib, like Leonardo, with their beautiful wings icon/logo) nibs have the mountain goat logo stamped on the nib face. I believe Jowo no longer makes a #8 nib, but Bock still makes the Type 380, and has the typical "scoop" feed. Some Bock #8 nibs do have scrolling, just as just about all older Jowo nibs had scrolling.

      well Wally all nibs that you see in this video are Bock - its not about the feed or anything because in regards of ebonite feeds leonardo is heat setting their own feeds and its not using JOWO feeds - only the ABS feeds used now are by JOWO. Bock is making nibs on order for leonardo with the Leonardo branding and not theirs so this is why they are called Harmonic Steel - using a allow special only for leonardo nibs (steel) and on gold as well - leonardo choose from a bunch of alloys for their gold nibs. Bock is making size 8 nibs only in gold and Titanium - trust me - i know Leonardo nibs very well

    Thank you for the review and the closeup of the Girasole, it is a beautiful pen! Also mentioning the option of bespoke.
    I appreciate that you took the time to make this video and give an official announcement on the change from Bock to JoWo. I personally have a Furore with Bock that you've adjusted nicely, but I'd try a JoWo, too!

    bock nibs are better to me, but Jowo is more consistent. Good to hear about the #8 option though, I'd have to save up for one, larger nib does look better proportionally for this pen.

      hmmm this aspect i've debated with William Shakour from UK (pen maker) - he had a chat with Bock regarding that he wants size8 steel nibs, they said NO like never - they did offered titanium nibs in size 8 but steel wont be made into size8

      Hey Peter, the no8 nib is going to be removed exactly like no6 (it is friction fitted)

  • @pedrosette

    I always wanted to know how writing with a #8 nib is different from writing with a #6 nib. I don’t know of any video that addresses this particular question (and only this particular question). Besides, as I only write with Japanese fines, and I see even the Japanese don’t make fine versions of their larger nibs… Would it be a bad idea to have a #8 nib ground down to a Japanese fine?

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  2 года назад +1

      Well all I can say is that there are a lot of variable factors, in my experience Leonardo offers the only option in this because you can have on the same pen body and same pen size, a #6 or a #8 nib, if you have a size 8 nib on a KoP (for example) and a size 6 (on a lower tier Sailor pen model) - how would you compare the nibs if you have a different pen/shape/weight/grip position and all of that? Japanese dont do a EF nib pain our of a very important limitation, they use 21kt gold on the KOP size 8 nib, that is a very soft nib and if you ground a EF point (although in the past they offered a EF point on that nib from factory) you will find out it s a very skippy nib, the combined size of the nib/softness of the 21kt gold and the fact that your grip sits so far back due to the length of the nib... naturally you apply more pressure making the gap of the tines larger and since the EF point is that fine - it breaks the capillary action making a perfect skippy nib. This is why you dont see a size 8 EF and F (Japanese nibs) ... If you where to have this nib tipping on a 14k or even 18k gold italian size8 ni (well... its bock or jowo so not really an Italian) - I think it works because first is more stiff and prevents the tines from spreading too easy and second of all EF and F points are like a Japanese Medium :D I hope this answer makes things more clear

    Hi Emy! Thank you for this review. When Leonardo changes over to JOWO nibs, are they still friction fit? Or are they going to be in a nib unit?

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  3 года назад +1

      Hey there,
      From January they will go with JOWO on steel nibs and 14k Gold size6. On the Momento Zero and Furore (normal both not grandes) will be friction fited into a nib unit and for the Grande series (steel and 14k gold) will be friction fitted into the section with the ebonite feed and not in a nib unit.

    I am thinking of getting a "Fine" nib, would this be equal to like a true medium since it does secrete more ink? Is there some flex to these nibs? I have a 14k " Medium" Leonardo Momento Grande and love the nib, is the #8 large size Fine nib comparable to the 14k Medium?

    • @pen.venture
      @pen.venture  2 года назад

      I wouldn't say it can be a true Medium but a fat and juicy fine can be closer to a Medium in regards of the line it puts down. If you are asking about the steel nib if its flexy - i would say that the Bock ones are more flexy than JOWO steel ones (we still have a few steel Bock nibs in stock at this moment). The size 8 nibs are more true to their size so a F its a F
