    That's so much better! Image workbench was so unintuitive I had to look up a tutorial each time I wanted to import and scale an image. Especially that last step with selecting an image that would give an error every time.

    There is another great improvement in this new image tool: the image is now double-sided! In the image workbench, the back of the image was black.

    They made a great decision to finally replace the Image workbench with regular support for image imports. It was really non-intuitive that one had to use a separate workbench just to import and scale an image.

      It's important to remember that Workbenches are merely collections of tools.
      This is not mentioned enough in FreeCAD tutorials. You can even create your own customisations of existing workbenches.

      The weekly builds on github are 100 % official. And they're as stable as 0.20 in my experience, can't say that they crash more often. I have auto save 3 mins and save manually before taking actions known to end in unpredictable results… just like I did in 0.20. The overall improvements are worth it.

    • @Gumball_W
      @Gumball_W Год назад

      @@NUeB_net They can be even more stable than 0.20 since they include many bug fixes. Plus there’s a feature freeze and 0.21 will be released soon so weekly builds should be really safe to use at this point.

    For any new users like me... I discovered that after importing the image and making the settings as needed, I had to go to Sketch on the upper menu and pick Create Sketch for the toolbars and crosshairs to become visible. Dang. Dang. Dan. That didn't take long. The moment that I try to use any of the sketcher tools, I get an error message, "Access Violation" and a long incomprehensible report over on the left side. I've probably invested six hours today, messing with this import task and trying to sketch over it. To say that I am frustrated would be an improvement over how I really feel right now.

      I think that we are having the same difficulties. I get the import just fine, but after that my Sketcher selection seems to do nothing. I have no XY crosshairs, nor a view cube. Nothing on my workspace except my imported image. Whoa!!! I think that I discovered the next step. When I went to the Sketch choice in the upper list, I had to pick "Create Sketch". At that point, everything that I needed to start sketching came up.

    I would like to see an absolute beginning to professional expert all in one video on the latest version, and again as new versions come out, it's always good to have a refresher , but currently I'm basically a beginner, I drive for a living, with that in mind, it would be nice if the video was structured in such a way to where if your only listening to it, that there would be a lot I could take away from it. So when I do get to watch with eyes on the learning experience would be a bit easier.
    I got lots of things I need to design. Like a combination engine with only one moving part, way better than the wankel engine, and so much more

    • @MangoJellySolutions
      @MangoJellySolutions  Год назад +2

      My father used to work on wakel engines back in his mechanic days 😊. Thanks for sharing the situation you gave with learning, I am thinking about how to structure that. It almost feels that you want something that can be listened to as a pod cast that goes through the theory and design intent. I trialed a CAD episode of a possible series called CAD thinking which explained how to read a physical object to get it into a digital form and have been thinking lately how to bring that back for another episode. And as you say the newest release of freecad has appeared so be good to do something.

    • @davidprock904
      @davidprock904 Год назад

      @MangoJellySolutions Awesome! An idea of an approach you maybe could take on the learning...
      Pretend someone is standing over your shoulder, but they can't see your screen lol, but their memory is flawless and they will remember 100% of what you speak...
      And when you done teaching, they have to build something particular that uses as many features/principles/concepts as possible in this one design, while asking you the least amount of questions possible.

      I am looking at the videos that I have ready to release and I have one covering just that. In the mean time here are the steps.
      1) Import your image and adjust to the size you want.
      2) Click the image first and then ctrl click the face.
      3) Select top menu > edit > align
      4) You screen will be split in two with one side saying movable object.
      5) click on top left of the image, top right, bottom left. 3 point will be added.
      6) Do the same on the face you want to map it to.
      7) Right click, and click align.
      You should now see the image aligned to the face.
