Because the music industry, like anywhere else, is controlled by a kind of mafia. You have to submit to them to make it big. That has nothing to do with quality if some people prevail. They also show their affiliation with signs and symbols, so consumers are shown who they are dealing with. u2 is a good example. After all, they also get involved in political issues and try to exert influence on behalf of their masters.
