Interesting build, especially in origins! I had a playthrough with a party that consisted 3 rogue archers and Shale. Instead of dexterity all 3 of them invested into high cunning and took the bard specialization to stack their songs of courage for an insane crit chance. Shales aura of Rock mastery gives your ranged party members +10% crit chance and deducts 2 seconds of their attack animation, which makes the repeater gloves unnecessary. And because Aim doubles your current crit chance before activating it I was able to get crit rates in the neighborhood of 90% on all 3 archers. It made a lot of fun!
Unique party compositions/builds is what keeps me coming back to replay RPGs. Unfortunately, Bioware, like most modern companies, are making their games ever more simplified, from what i have seen the newer DA games don't have the same variety of DAO, and hell, DAO itself doesn't have the same variety of Baldur's Gate.
@@AKisHerceg probably not since all 3 Mass Effect games were made on the unreal engine 3. Making it easier to recreate all of them. But all three Dragon Age games were made in all different engines. So for example if they were to remake all of them in the frosbite engine(DA:I engine) then they'll have to recreate the earlier games essentially from scratch.
@@table_not_included5084 How about just additional features? Or perhaps they could redesign little bit something in-game? Update my mean. Not recreate all things. For example, perhaps they could add some effect, redesign skill look, redesign they way characters interact with each other like Dragon Age II etc.
@@weslibravo That is unlikely because the engine of Origins is a nightmare to work with as I heard it(unstable). Not to mention, on many systems or vgas the game crashes all the time - some skills are just straight up unusable because they will crash the game to desktop. Maybe they would be able to fix it in a remaster, but the limitations would still be there like, no jumping etc.
Very nice. This is exactly the party composition i go for when i want to power game. Also the double Arcane Knight double rogue set up. Arcane knight for dual haste, buffs, and tanking. Dual rogue to pile on maximum dps. I call this the meat grinder. Dont need aoe when everything that approaches gets minced
Eamon: No, Guardian you cannot pit your Mabari against Loghain in a duel of honor! We cannot entrust the fate of Ferelden to a dog! Rouge-ranger: All right... then I'll call a wild wolf to bite his ass off. Is that better? Imagine you are a legendary general, but you are defeated by a wild dog in front of the entire nobility.
That is exactly why the build is so overlooked! :) Initially it does not seem impressive, right? Just summoning animals? Pff... Yet, here it is: one of the fastest killer, without a tank or a support character. I love it! :)
Oh i should mention, the da4 skill system will be very open a " ffx/ff12 " skill board thst apparently connets like ffx to all characters meaninf we can min max and play how we want! Im excited to play a bomb/ trap archer its going to be so fun.
I have never played any of the FF games so its all Greek to me lol. I might check out how those games are played - which is a bit sad that I have to check out another game to understand how my future DA game will play.
@@AKisHerceg it's all good I understand it is a change,I'm sad the change is so big but I like it. So basically the skill board system is like a big board with skills and characters on each end (they have a specific focus their class uses, and their side of the board matches that usage) you buy skills, passives on the board! Very open ended skill tree.
If you have a bow rogue, nothing except bard+ranger ever made sense to me so that's how I always did it. But as for the first point in the video, I am always bringing only damagers anyway. :) My tank is generally a 2h warrior (main character or Oghren, or respec Alistair).
Interesting! I've wanted to experiment with a Ranger/Bard rogue who just stands back, belts out tunes and lets the animals do all the killing for her. That said, nothing beats casting Storm of the Century and watching the XP notifications stack up as enemies drop like flies - and then tank the boss as an Arcane Warrior!
I'm not big on rogues because I like to be meaty and hard to kill. So here's my plan: two companion rogues with this build, me and one more mage with your shapeshifter build. Two people, four bears, let it rip.
@@ConstantEve Duncan's Sword + Starfang or Maric's Blade(Keening Blade is great too, but you get that very late). Evon the Great's Mail with either heavy dragonbone chainmail gloves and boots or Wade's Set. Lifegiver ring, Key to the City and Spellward(I would get this one for +10% dodge) or the Dace Amulet. Maneuvering(+10% dodge) belt or Anduril's Blessing. Helmet is optional. Executioner is good, but the First Enchanter Cowl(+10% dodge) is great too. You need Dual Weapon Mastery to equip two swords, so you need to put 36 on dex the rest should go to STR. Naturally get Momentum asap to hasten your attack speed(or Haste on a mage), and use Riposte, Dirty Fighting to stun and with Coup de Grace you can auto-backstab stunned foes. Your mage can also paralyze to get the same effect. Flurry is good, Evasion too. With Evasion your dodge % is now 20(Evasion) + 10(Spellward) +10(Maneuvering Belt) + 10(First Enchanter Cowl) + 5 Dark Passage(Avernus' concoction) + 10(Evon the Great's Mail) = 65%. Which is pretty god for an STR based character. Use Swift Salve if you use Momentum to reach max attack speed. Swords are much slower than daggers so you definitely need this. That's pretty much it. :)
Seeing your menagerie overwhelm and cause chaos in all those fights was just awesome! I think I might give this a go in a Dalish Rogue build, I've never made an archer warden before or finished a dalish origin playthrough and from an RP standpoint this also seems perfect! Would it be possible to get a list (maybe in the vid description) of all the AI tactics you have for the pets? Having Overwhelm cast on bosses or higher definitely seems like a good thing to have on always.
Thanks! :) Remember! You can only set the pet tactics for a short time, after you summon the pet(the "tactics slots acquired" message will appear, and you need to click on it). Here are my tactics for my wolves: Enemy: Boss or higher - Overwhelm Self: Being attacked by melee attack: Dread Howl Enemy: Target of main character: Howl Enemy: Elite or higher: Charge Enemy: Elite or higher: Shred This is for a Blight Wolf, for a normal Wolf you would have a few less option, but the same ones that you see here. Bears: Enemy: Elite or higher: Slam Self: Any: Rage
Welp here I go installing the game again. Never done a ranged build in DAO so this looks fun. Might not do all rangers cause I'd love to switch to a mage to pop some spells every once in a while but ya this looks great, awesome video!
I really liked playing double ranger plus double spirit healer mage with animate dead for minion variety. I usually went with warrior and rogue skeletons, spider plus non-spider pet. Spiders aren't strong by themselves, but having an ability to paralize any target from anywhere is nice.
Nice! It's good to see others like summons as well! :) I am not sure why, but for me when I tried to use Animate Dead with the Ranger spec with a different party member, they seem to cancel each other. It has to be a bug that was never fixed, because I play with the UE. I made a group of Blood Mages with 3 Animate Dead and I figured that we could all leech blood from the fourth party member's summon(bears have a ton of health), since you can only have two additional mage and you can't leech from the corpses. Sadly every time the last party member summoned the animal, my reanimated corpses were automatically deactivated. Well, for me the spider's Web was almost completely useless, since they failed to paralyze 70% of the time. Web must have a very low physical resistance check, because most enemies seem to resist it very effectively on Nightmare. Poison spit has very low damage, although 3 combined can deal some nice nature damage, but it can't compete with the wolves Dread Howl(mass stun), Shred(auto-crit), Charge(knockdown) and of course their amazing Overwhelm(paralyze + massive continuous damage) ability. :) EDIT: I actually looked into the summon deactivation/incompatibility with Reanimate and I found out that if I unlock the Master Ranger passive, it will no longer de-activates the skill. Strange.
What origin is best for the Ranger build. I thought Dalish Elf at first for items but Dwarfs look to have better stats to start than Human and Elf. Thoughts
This is great! I will try this next pt. Do you remember by chance how to distribute attribute points for the Mabari? All strength? A mix of strength and dex? Or constitution?
Ranger is really impressive and underrated. Saw a similar video before this one bit the player there used bard as his second spec for song of courage. You could also use a mage w necro spells for help. Damn it. That song in campfire is making me wanna play the game again 😍😂 Great video anyway.
For me, Leliana is taking care of the Song of Courage buff and Zevran uses the Mark of Death on bosses for extra damage. In Awakening I don't really need any of that, because Accuracy is just so overpowered. Necro-like spells are good, but my problem with Animate Dead is that you actually need a dead body for you to be able to get the meat shield, instead of just summoning help whenever you want. It is amazing if you play as a Blood Mage, since Blood Mage can easily destroy an enemy and raise the corpse, while keeping the rest of the group disabled with Blood Wound. For a Ranger, I like the animals better and here I really wanted to get as many animals as possible. :) Yeah, I love that music too! It's the music from the character creation screen.
@@AKisHerceg Ah ok. If you think about pets only then I get you fam 😂 Necro spells would be used in crowd fights when pets would kill at least one enemy you got already another ally. Bascally necro mage and ranger rouge don't need any health potion. In my opinion only warriors cannot have a warrior only party In origins... Until late game of course. Then you can change things a litle bit
@@adrianblania5565 Yeah, I get you. That can work, but I would say that the Animated Deads are not as good as the "puppies". :) Wolves really offer an impressive amount of talents that you can set up in the tactics: one auto-critical hit ability(Shred), one knockdown ability(Charge), one area stun ability(Dread Howl), and two de-buff that decreases enemy defense(Howl and Growl). On top of all this, they have the Overwhelm ability which destroys any humanoid boss in seconds. Even if the boss survives one, the next "puppy" will kill it. The only way they can survive Overwhelm is if the animal is knocked down. Not even Stun will interrupt it! Plus this talent also completely locks the boss in the animation, basically paralyzing them for the duration. Yeah, true. Warriors are very slow even with Swift Salve. I think it's doable(Sten, Oghren, Alistair and you), but I would really hate not having a mage with the Haste spell in the party. Unless of course if I go with a team of archers, since Haste is actually detrimental when it comes to archery. :)
@@AKisHerceg Yeah. Puppies can save your life with the overwhelm skill. Specially with mages. Rouge are suffering greatly too And when it comes to the warriors. You either become a dual wield, archer or second tank. Cause you got already two 2h slow warriors.
Oh. When I'm tanking I need haste swift salve and the blood buff thing. Makes you a flash. You need to be faster specially as a 2h 😂 haste is a must for a warrior
Well, that is a tough question! :) I enjoyed both very much, but I think when it comes to gameplay, the Master Archer is more of a standard build with the regular party-setup. It is great for people who go through the game the first time or returning to the game after a break. This build is very fun, if you already know how the game works and you are looking for a fresh experience. :)
Yes, mainly. With a couple of rouge skills, namely: Below the Belt and Dirty Fighting. Dirty Fighting is very useful for low level characters and Below the Belt will be good all the way through. :)
So I know it's been answered in several different places that you can't have multiple summons on console... but can you still "glitch" a command to a single summons during the same summons "window" PC users get?
A great video from you as always! Do you have any written guide or a video that explains the tactical setting that you use with the builds you made? I finished DAO and Awakening many times, but I always have been an enjoyer of the tactical pause instead of the AI tactical settings that the game offers. I'd like to give it a try because I see that you managed to design builds that don't require the tactical pause at all! Thank you!
For this build, I don't have any written guides. However, I do have videos on how to program the AI in both Origins, and Inquisition. I pretty much go through every character and their tactical setup. In this case, since everyone is an archer, I set all of them up as Ranged, and give them pretty much the same commands: Enemy - Elite or Higher - Scattershot Enemy - Elite or Higher - Arrow of Slaying Self - Being attacked be melee - Dirty Fighting Enemy - Armor - Medium or High - Shattering Shot Self - Being attacked by melee - Below the Belt These commands on two archers would devastate everything with the pets. Leliana: Self - Any - Song of Courage Self - Any - Summon Wolf(Summon Bear in Dragon fights) Zevran: Enemy - Rank - Boss of higher - Mark of Death Self - Any - Summon Wolf(Summon Bear in dragon fights) Zevran might not be able to pick up Scattershot depending on when you get him, because he will run out of talent points. But this is pretty much their whole AI build. The pets you can only program when you summon them initially and you click on the notification that their tactics slots are unlocked. If you don't click it, you will not have access to their tactics menu. Wolves will have all the dog abilities unlocked in the tactics menu: Enemy - Nearest visible - Growl Enemy - Nearest visible - Howl Enemy - Rank - Boss or higher - Overwhelm Self - Being attacked by melee - Dread Howl Enemy - Rank - Elite or higher - Shred Enemy - Uses attacking type - Magic - Charge Bears are tanks and they don't have many abilities, so you use them during dragon fights only: Self - Any - Rage Enemy - Rank - Boss or higher - Slam They have overwhelm, but since you only use them against dragons(because the dogs are more useful in any other battle), you don't have to set that up.
@@AKisHerceg I just found the problem, if you are not master (4/4 Ranger talents) you don't have acces to the pets tactics, I just level up with commands to check it out, now each time I summon my pets I see the tactics notification. I will try ranger later when I get those levels normally :)
Brilliant idea. I also love your other build videos, especially the berserker. The problem with unmodded DA:O is that summons disappear whenever you load a new map, and when you resummon them again, you have to set their tactics again.
Thanks! :) True, that is a bit annoying. But you don't have to set the tactics up completely. You just have to quickly pick a few skills that will get you through the specific fight you are doing. Overwhelm is always useful, other than that you only need Charge and occasionally Dread Howl. It only takes less than 20 sec to quickly set them up. :)
ehhh i kinda wanna experience the other classes a little bit im not that dedicated to the archer just my main character i might go ranger for my specialization though
1:26 😂😂😂 man F that god forsaken battle. I swear that fight took me more than a dozen tries to beat the first playthru. I rage smashed my tomb raider controller, and halo reach controller as well!
Archer Builds look so fun, sadly my PC is a potato and it has that infamous combat delay bug that makes every damage and healing takes like minutes to process on your game, making the combat so much worse because when you go to heal your party, they are actually already dead, the game just didn't showed it yet. Also, what mods you use to bring Awakening Specializations to Origins?
Ok, I can come to help - its like that. At the start of the pet apperance you had and info the some tactic points added, you click it and and the tactic action view for the pet appears. That the only way I found it working.
@@adrianblania5565 Oh, yes sorry, that is correct. I thought the person who asked the question was saying that the popup did not appear therefore they don’t have access to the tactics. I wrote it in the video I think(or maybe I forgot), that you need to click on the popup which says “tactics slots acquired” for you to be able set up your pet. You will have more options than skills even(for your wolf you will have all the dog skills automatically in the tactics menu, even if it doesn’t have those skills on its skill bar). But you can only do it once, right after you summoned your pet. :)
Not sure if you still haven't worked that out but as Pets scale with your levels, you will need to be at certain level before they will unlock additional tactic slots, which translate in pop-up. I think it is around level 12 but not sure if you need Master Ranger. Without, it will be higher lvl as it upgrade pet scaling from something like 0.75x to 0.9x Warden level.
You mentioned that the repeater gloves were mandatory on PC. What If you are playing on console (I know, I know)? Are they still required? and If not, what would be an alternative?
Well, based on what I saw, no. On Console you have instant ability activation so you don't need that gear. :) Gloves that are great for this build in order: Red Jenny Seekers > Backhands > Wade's Superior Gloves > Angled Strikers
Did a playthrough as a Ranger and encountered something annoying. During Golems of Amgarrek if I summon my bear, the bronto dies. How do I get both, or can I?
That only happens to me if Jerrik summons the bear. Are you playing on console or on pc? I think there is a glitch with the console version, and you can't summon more than one animal with your party.
Nope, no mods. Arrow of Slaying does not work on Elite Bosses(on Bosses, it works only with a 10% effectiveness). In Awakening, it is calculated a bit differently, since with Accuracy on with high dex, you will deal monstrous base damage, so your AOS will reflect on that. :)
@@AKisHerceg awesome man, I appreciate the reply! I'm obviously going to be doing a replay here soon, but I've only ever played once and only ever played the base game YEARS ago so I'm unfamiliar with the in's and outs.. So Basically my issue is since I'm on console, I can't have multiple rangers with summons so I keep struggling to figure out what to play... I love the idea of ranger... but just having 1 additional body that I can't control is less appealing than what you've shown.. so I keep going back and forth between ranger or not, dw vs archer, and even dex based or CUN heavy lol. Any thoughts on what's best on console? Thanks again!
@@charleskonz3273 Archery s actually way more powerful on console, than on pc. Why? Because the pc is bugged and the aiming animation is too long. Especially with skills and the Aim sustainable skill. You absolutely need to wear the Repeater gloves to be effective in archery. On console, this does not concern you. Your shots are instant, even your skills, which result in much higher dps. I think a dual dagger rogue works great on both console and pc, and it does not require too much skills to go through(activating skills is a pain on console the way I hear it, because you have to bring up that circle thing every time). You only need Riposte, Dirty Fighting and the passive Coup de Grace. Then get some poisons that can stun and start backstabbing. With the Assassin spec, your can destroy elite bosses alone easily. Stack dexterity and boost your dodge%. With 160 dex and around 75% dodge, almost nothing will be able to hit you, and your lightning fast attacks will destroy anything. Check out my Poison Assassin video if you want to see what you can do with this build. :)
@@AKisHerceg No way, really?! And here I thought archery was gimped ok console due to some stuff I read about haste and or Shale's ranged aura not acting as I should.. that it definitely embolding to go archer then, even if I can't have multiple summons (since I have an affinity for rangers). Also, thank you so much for the quick and meaningful responses man - it's very much appreciated - def earned a sub for sure. Seems now I just have to decide DW or ranged since you maie both seem viable.. A question though - so would you day archer would benefit for more cun based, and dw would be more dex based then?
@@charleskonz3273 Thanks! No problem. :) Nope, the archer is definitely full dex, since your ranged damage is boosted by dex alone. Dual Dagger also favors dex, but there, you have more options, since you can have backstab bonus from cunning. Still, I like to go for full dex, since it increases damage and defense as well. For max Stealth you need 22 cunning so that is usually how much I place on it.
Yo I’m using the berserker build you made but instead of dagger i use swords it wrecks though idk how you play in nightmare but im loving it 🎉 keep up the good work
could i use shapeshifter morriam instead of dog? I I'm a human noble I can get the shield of highever which is good for shapeshifters and combine it with spellweaver, probably stronger than dog
You could, yes. But a Shapeshifter Morrigan is not better than the Dog. :) Dog has more health, more damage, and more talents. Morrigan can have more armor, but that is pretty much it. Plus she is vulnerable to Dispel and Glyph of Neutralization, unlike the Dog.
I think it was: Enemy - Elite or lower: Summon Wolf Enemy - Boss or higher: Summon Bear Enemy - Boss or higher: Arrow of Slaying Enemy - Elite or higher: Pinning Shot Enemy - Uses melee Attack: Shattering Shot Enemy - Target at range - Close or medium: Scatter Shot Zevran had the Mark of Death set up for bosses and Leliana had the Song of Valor set as automatic. The dogs had Overwhelm set up for Elites or Bosses, the rest is pretty much Any or Target attack part member. The Bears had Rage as automatic and Slam set up on bosses.
Hi, thank you for your work. I’m planning to replay Dragon Age: Origins on nightmare difficulty. I want to use Alistair (built as an archer), Leliana (as a ranger), the Warden (as a ranger), and Morrigan (as support). All these builds are inspired by your videos. My question is: would this party be viable or should I change some builds (like Morrigan archer :D ) ? :)
My only issues with my build was in the fade for Mage's circle. You can't summon animals in the Fade, and I did not not take skills to help in close combat
That is also totally viable! I prefer not to get hit by enemies(and I love high hit chance as well), but ideally, your summons can get in the way of your enemies providing you great meat shields, so yup, if you feel like going for cunning, you can do that. :)
Wow, this build is amazing! Do you know of a battle mage’s buff that actually only works on close weapons or on beasts and bows/crossbows? (It only says melee, but it could still be...)
Thanks! Not sure I understand. A battle mage's buff that only works on close weapons or on beasts? No idea what you mean. Frost Weapons or Flaming Weapons? They don't work on beasts nor ranged weapons, last I checked.
I boosted Dex for all of them, and let them use my fav archery skills: Arrow of Slaying, Scattershot, Pining Shot and Shattering Shot. Additionally, Zev uses Mark of Death and Leliana use Song of Courage.
@@AKisHerceg Does song of courage improve stats based on Leliana's cunning or each individual companions/yours. Do you know? Because if it did based on Leliana's then it would be better to boost her cunning instead I think.
@@Arkaskas1 It uses Leliana's cunning. It would increase the damage of our party if Leliana would have more cunning, but this is not necessary, since we already have more dps than any other party composition. Dex on the other hand is great for Leliana, because it helps her survive against most mobs.
@@AKisHerceg Thank you for replying, you're being very nice. One last question. Do you think that using bugfix mods for PC would make the build worse? For example the repeater's gloves would be nerfed from -3 seconds to only 0.3.
Yes, and no. The build works everywhere, but based on some feedback, the consoles don't support multiple pets. They de-summon when there are more then one, so sadly you can't have your own little zoo. :)
You mean for the pets? Nope, that is no mod or dlc. In the tactics menu you will be able to choose more abilities for your pets - even skills that are inaccessible if you yourself controlling the pet. Basically all of the Dog abilities are accessible to every canine summon via the tactics menu. :)
@@AKisHerceg no. There's an entire extra row of skills under archery that I don't see. And under the "rogue" tree, and even the dual weapon tree. Is that all from awakening? I'm playing origins from the beginning currently and don't have any of that. Ty for your quick reply as well.
I have never played the game on consoles, but I am guessing the mechanics are basically the same(from the footage I saw actually, Archery is much better there since there is no aim speed penalty - therefore your dps is higher). I am not sure why it wouldn't work on consoles. :)
Well, you need more people to have more pets, but you can be a ranger alone as well. :) Naturally, this works with daggers as well, but since the animals provide such amazing protection(enemies can easily get distracted by them) archery is perfect for a hard-hitting yet safe playthrough by keeping your distance. If you go with melee, sometimes you can't even attack because your pets surround the target(and this is extremely easy, since you have so many pets) and you literally can't fit into the fight anymore. With a bow, you can attack even if the target is completely sorrounded by your wolves or bears. :)
@@AKisHerceg That's true the only point of using ranger as a dual wield dagger is to use the overwhelm skill to disable tough enemies but then again why not just use your tank to tank. Still it's a fun way to build your MC or Leliana since other 2 specialization doesn't really synergize that much for Archer
@@CryonicCy If you have multiple pets you don't need a tank. You can go all out and have a party of damagers - therefore ripping everything apart in seconds. Basically, you have your pets as melee infantry and you and your team are the artillery. If one of your pets dies, you just re-summon another one. It's like an unstoppable war machine. :) Because of the ability to just basically put everything on Dexterity, you can end up having a ton of damage with a bow and skills like Arrow of Slaying(kills everything up to Elite level with one shot) and Scattershot can destroy single targets or even disable crowds. With the ability to stay at range, you also have potentially more dps than with the dagger against bosses(even if you can fit into the battle and your pets won't take all the space, in which case you just stand there doing nothing), since powerful Dragons, Ogres etc. can knock you down easily - they can't do that if you stay in range - so with archery your dps remains constant. Hmm... I disagree. Legionnaire Scout is perfect for an Archer. It's actually perfect for every rogue who uses a "full dexterity" build. Same with the Duelist. +10 Defense and Attack - this is as basic as it can get. These bonuses are amazing for an archer. In fact, Assassin is the one that does not go well with an archer, since that focuses on backstabs(same with the Shadow). And the Bard? Well, I already have Leliana to give me those bonuses. Now, if you would just go for the standard party setup, with a tank, a support mage etc. without all the additional summoned pets, then sure, you could go with daggers, since you would probably be able to participate in the fight more easily. Plus dagger rogues can be monsters too with a full dex build. :)
The reason of using bow is to stay safe, using dagger might make you get trapped in the crowd and enemy (or your) mage(s) might shoot Fire Balls or other AoE as according to their AI. You'll never know these damn mages, they might cast spells behind walls or doors lol
I don’t think your VGA likes the game. Since it came out I changed my VGA 4 times and have a brand new pc now and the fps was always different based on what vga I used. I don’t get a stable 60 fps either. During combat, using specific spells(mostly healing) brings it dow to 40 something. Especially when I record. But if it runs bad for you you might want to try an older driver maybe? What is your VGA and OS?
@@AKisHerceg Yeah, my vga is not that powerful. It's a nvidia 940 MX laptop gpu. The game runs fine but as you said during combat it drops to 30-40 fps and I have to keep all my graphics settings to low when I roam denerim or it crashes.
You forgot about the double summon, which could get you two per rouge. The only downside is they can't use their talents, though I think the tactics might still allow it. Also, the good thing about being archers is that you can attack the target with the rogues. In Origins an enemy can only have about 5 or 6 melee characters attacking at once. Anything above that and the character will just stand there. In my games, the only real use I had for rangers is that my bloodmage could use them to replenish his health through blood sacrifice. But this video shows how they can be used in an overpowered way. I hope rangers come back in DA4, but I hope there are more storyline/gameplay elements for them, like riding certain beasts or sending them through special areas of the map that only they can access. It would be cool if we could ride a giant spider and climb a wall, or do battle on the back of a bronto. Or even fly around on a dragon.
You mean summoning a creature and quickly pressing the summon skill of another creature, therefore having 2 at the same time? Yes, I did not forget that, but I consider it an exploit, so I personally do not use it. Plus yes, your stamina is going to be way too low for my liking. :) Not even sure if I could use a singe Arrow of Slaying that way and I love using Scattershot and Shattering Shot as well. Yes, archers do have a great advantage, since they can attack from distance and a target can have unlimited amount attackers when it comes to archers. :) Yup, I love BM with Rangers to get back the health, since Bears have plenty to "spread around". The problem sadly with the BM is that it mixes well with the Reanimate Dead skill(which BM can't leech from), but if you have a Ranger with you, its summon deactivates it if you use Reanimate Dead(and the other way around too). Oh, yes! I would love it if they would bring this spec back. I love your ideas about how they should handle it! I would not even mind if they would do a "Druid" kind of spec, where you can use animals and have nature like spells. Like mixing the Keeper spec with the Creation tree's earth spells, along with the Ranger spec! It would be amazing! :)
@@AKisHerceg Ranger summon deactivates a mage's Animate Dead and vice-versa? I don't remember that ever happening to me. Though I only had Leliana as my ranger, not three rangers. Archer is decent for that. Even my dual weapon warrior used a bow now and then. However, I only gave him the rapid fire spec before the Battle of Denerim to off the grunts quickly. My Marian Hawke is full time archer though. Yeah, a DA4 ranger could have a wide range of animals too. From rat to dragon and anything in between. Another cool feature would be to let the animal go and the player controls it while the team waits in place. BioWare might have to make it only happen in specific areas depending on how they want to approach enemy encounters, but they could make it work. They could even build the maps to accommodate small creatures. Those who don't pick ranger would just see small holes and various beams and it would mean nothing to them, but a ranger's small pets would be able to use them. Another thing they could do is have certain animals excel in different ways. Like a rat can climb but can't swim very well, while a frog can't climb very well but can swim. So picking the right animal for the right area is key. Speaking of keys, you could have it to where an animal could pick up a key in its mouth and bring it back to the ranger so the party can gain access to a building through a locked door. The key and lock could also be magical, since most rogues can simply pick locks anyway. They could even make cross-class combos where the mage can power up the ranger's animal to have fire attacks, or maybe even explode on contact with an enemy. On that note, I wish animate dead would come back and that they could be used as suicide bombers. My pyro-necro bloodmage would target the animate dead with fireballs all the time. Also, they need to bring back trap setting. Artificer in Inquisition was okay, but not nearly good enough. DA2 got rid of it, and that's the game where trap laying would have actually fit perfectly with all the liner corridors and spawning enemy waves. Oh, ranger pets could also be used to set off or disarm traps.
@@BelieveIt1051 Yup, I usually used the Bear to set off traps that I was not cunning enough to disable. Pets are really good meat shields . I made a "Trapper Rogue" for both Origins and Inquisition and I recorded killing almost every single main boss in both games. Actually, it's one of my first videos on RUclips. It was extremely fun! :) Traps are the hidden treasure of Origins. First you think they are useless, then you realize that they are amazing! EDIT: I actually tested this again - the ranger summon de-activating reanimate: it only happens to me if the Master Ranger is not unlocked. With the Master Ranger passive it will no longer de-activates Reanimate. What a weird bug...
@@AKisHerceg Yeah that sounded like a bug. I only found one or two spots in Origins where traps were useful (other than selling them to Allison for the experience exploit). One was in the orphanage where I knew the doors would open and all the mabari would come out. The second was defending the gates of Denerim with poison caltrops to drop all the darkspawn grunts passing through. I wish DA2 had the ability to set traps because of all the enemies that come up from behind. DA4 should make trapping more logical, like as a way to cover your rear from enemies that might chase after you. Or you could have a rogue stealth into an enemy's patrol path and lay a trap they are bound to walk into. In Origins it was like you had to have meta-knowledge of where enemies would spawn. In Inquisition they were used immediately in combat, which wasn't the same. And the elemental mines felt more like grenades. DA4 should also incorporate junk/valuables into trap making. Each item should have its own look and using say, "ruby ring" as the trap's lure should result in a trap that has a visible ruby ring as the lure. Or a sovereign if that is used. Or a dwarven toy sculpture. Whatever it may be, even weapons. And each item has its own lure score or is more effective on different types of enemies. And certain enemies should just be too smart to fall into your traps.
@@BelieveIt1051 "I only found one or two spots in Origins where traps were useful" You should check out my video! :) In Origins, you can use the traps to instantly(or almost instantly) kill: The High Dragon, Flemeth, Ser Cauthrien(if you place the traps before going down to the dungeons), The Harvester, and Loghain(by using Stealth). These are some of the most difficult battles in the game and they last a few seconds with traps. You can also use traps to kill any of the "Black Vial Revenants", Zathrian and the elves in the camp, the Hurlock General during the siege of Denerim, or really any boss that can follow you and you can lure them into the traps. Elemental traps have no Friendly Fire so they are perfectly safe for the team as well. The junk system in DA2 is terrible(completely useless, its an annoyance actually, since they don't even worth anything they just take all your inventory space). I agree, they really should make us use these things, like in Fallout 4 where you can deconstruct the items and gain useful materials from them! This would be amazing. You could use them for trap making or really anything that you want to craft. Yup, elemental mines are more like cluster grenades with delayed explosions. Technically they are mines, since they don't explode when you throw them, but yeah, they kinda feel like grenades. And they are buggy as hell. Still, I love them, but they needed a serious improvement/de-bugging(mines fly away, mines fail to explode on oversized enemies most of the time etc.) which we sadly never got.
I have no idea what you mean. I only have 3 specialization points, which means I can only pick 3. I did however unlocked all specializations. I do not use mods at all. :)
@@weslibravo Oh, you mean the two unlocked spec. That is the Shadow and the Legionnaire Scout. They are from the "Dragon Age Origins - Awakening" expansion. They are the two new specs for the Rogue(Warrior has Spirit Warrior and Guardian and Mage has Battlemage and Keeper as the two additional specializations in the expansion). :)
@@christiandam6803 It is indeed op. Rangers can use their pets as tanks, and they soak up all the damage becasue enemies tend to attack them first. And even if some enemies target you, with your high dex, you defense will deflect almost all physical damage.
@@AKisHerceg sure but my point is that master assasin with Liliana as master assassin as well needs healer. Ranger doesn't need healer. So ranger is stronger. But master assassins including Leilana need not just a healer but also a tanker.Ranger doesn't need also a tanker .so ranger is twice as powerful as master assassins(including Leilana)
So you are a Ranger, and you summoned a wolf. Then you switch on a companion, and tried to summon their own Wolf, and it de-spawned? I have never heard of this glitch before. I have the Ultimate Edition(on Steam, and as a hard cover copy too) with 1.04 patch. What version of the game are you playing with, and on which platform? Also, do you have any mods installed?
@@bloodytroll9626 Well, at least on pc, this is not entirely true. Normally, yes they can just summon one, but there is a glitch that allows you to have two, if you summon one right after the other. For example: if you summon a wolf, while you are doing the summon animation, you click on the bear or spider, you will automatically summon the spider/bear without the wolf de-spawning. The stamina will be deducted for both pets. You can do this with all of your rogues, netting a total of 6 pets(+the dog if you bring him too).
@@AKisHerceg Same reason the raise the skeleton to fight kicks out a summoned animal I suppose. Must not have the processing fire power to do it maybe.
Maybe... The skeletons and the animals don't work together even on pc sometimes, but Master Ranger fixes this. Have you tired unlocking Master Ranger? Maybe that fixes your problem too. Too bad if it does not work, because it is really fun to play a pack leader. :)
@@AKisHerceg Fired up a Rogue just last week. He's maxed on summons. Pretty late in the game and haven't taken Leliana or Zev up that chain. Worth a try and u may be rt about the last talent allowing it. Wait a minute, I checked wiki doa and it said consoles can't have multiple animal summons
I know this is late already but...we can be a Ranger without ranger specialization and without being a Rogue. Just play as the Cousland, choose Warrior class and Archery, always bring the dog everywhere. DA:O Ranger specialization is a lackluster, it just summons some beasts, why we want that while we already have a beast, our faithful Mabari? 😂 Pro - the dog will not get unsummoned as a permanent party member, can find random stuff, can equip kaddis and collar as we wanted, can level up as we wanted. Con - Warrior can't lockpick, disarm traps and can't get into stealth mod. But in my opinion, warrior archer is actually better in combat than rogue archer at the get go, no need to wait for the level ups and setup. - Warrior can manage agro with Taunt and Disengage. - Warrior get high hit rate early with Precise Striking and later with Perfect Striking. - Warrior Talents and Specializations are more useful overall for utility.
The hardest fight in the game in my opinion is the wolf random encounter early, on nightmare or the LotR ringwraith rare encounter at a low level on nightmare.
Do you guys ever play it for the roleplay? like, choosing the characters you like the most for the party based on charisma etc. Everything I see on the fanbase is about build, combat, how to kill faster ...
You pick the Ranger specialization and you need the Master Ranger passive. This will turn your regular wolf summons into Blight Wolves and your normal bears into Great Bears. The spiders will also become Poisonous Spiders. :)
@@mrxsigma3683 It's an expansion. Once you completed the Main game, you start it, import your character and it's a new story. You are the same person with the same level and skills as you were when you finished the Main game(or not if you don't import your character - because you can do Awakening with a new character too) but everything else is different. You have a fort where you return to instead of the camp, you have new party members, new enemies, new skills and specializations a new city and locations(basically a different map within Ferelden - the Northern portion of Ferelden to be precise). So no, you can't return into the Main game after you imported your character into Awakening, because chronologically it takes place months after the main game. :)
DAO has insane replayability.
This truly is an overlooked class! I'm going to completely start a new campaign to try this out!
I really hope that Bioware is going to remake dragon age origins 🙄🙏
Well, we will see what happens with the Mass Effect remaster. Maybe if it's good and successful, they will remake Origins too. :)
Hopefully

Initially it does not seem impressive, right? Just summoning animals? Pff...
Yet, here it is: one of the fastest killer, without a tank or a support character. I love it! :)
Oh i should mention, the da4 skill system will be very open a " ffx/ff12 " skill board thst apparently connets like ffx to all characters meaninf we can min max and play how we want! Im excited to play a bomb/ trap archer its going to be so fun.

@@AKisHerceg it's all good I understand it is a change,I'm sad the change is so big but I like it.
How would you set up a melee ranger? Think like drizzt do'urden
Double sword or double dagger?
@AKisHerceg the guy who inspired the idea used dual scimitars so swords would he more accurate to the base concept

Thanks! :)
Remember! You can only set the pet tactics for a short time, after you summon the pet(the "tactics slots acquired" message will appear, and you need to click on it).
Here are my tactics for my wolves:
Enemy: Boss or higher - Overwhelm
Self: Being attacked by melee attack: Dread Howl
Enemy: Target of main character: Howl
Enemy: Elite or higher: Charge
Enemy: Elite or higher: Shred
This is for a Blight Wolf, for a normal Wolf you would have a few less option, but the same ones that you see here.
Bears:
Enemy: Elite or higher: Slam
Self: Any: Rage
When you play ranger ya gotta be a dalish elf....
That intro combined with music was hillarious 😂
Welp here I go installing the game again. Never done a ranged build in DAO so this looks fun. Might not do all rangers cause I'd love to switch to a mage to pop some spells every once in a while but ya this looks great, awesome video!
Thanks! I hope will have fun! :)
I am not sure why, but for me when I tried to use Animate Dead with the Ranger spec with a different party member, they seem to cancel each other.
EDIT: I actually looked into the summon deactivation/incompatibility with Reanimate and I found out that if I unlock the Master Ranger passive, it will no longer de-activates the skill. Strange.
I'm currently soloing this build I added trap making to it as well, it's difficult but fun

Ranger is really impressive and underrated.
Saw a similar video before this one bit the player there used bard as his second spec for song of courage. You could also use a mage w necro spells for help.
Damn it. That song in campfire is making me wanna play the game again 😍😂
Great video anyway.
Yeah, I love that music too! It's the music from the character creation screen.

Until late game of course. Then you can change things a litle bit
@@adrianblania5565 Yeah, I get you. That can work, but I would say that the Animated Deads are not as good as the "puppies". :)
Wolves really offer an impressive amount of talents that you can set up in the tactics: one auto-critical hit ability(Shred), one knockdown ability(Charge), one area stun ability(Dread Howl), and two de-buff that decreases enemy defense(Howl and Growl).
@@AKisHerceg
Yeah. Puppies can save your life with the overwhelm skill. Specially with mages. Rouge are suffering greatly too
And when it comes to the warriors. You either become a dual wield, archer or second tank. Cause you got already two 2h slow warriors.
Oh. When I'm tanking I need haste swift salve and the blood buff thing. Makes you a flash. You need to be faster specially as a 2h 😂 haste is a must for a warrior
Did you have more fun playing this DPS wise is this setup stronger than your master archer setup? And which one was more fun for you?
Well, that is a tough question! :)
I enjoyed both very much, but I think when it comes to gameplay, the Master Archer is more of a standard build with the regular party-setup. It is great for people who go through the game the first time or returning to the game after a break.
This build is very fun, if you already know how the game works and you are looking for a fresh experience. :)
I'm going to name this build, The Kindergarten Eviscerator
Really good video, detailed the stats snd items too. Good bow choice, i love it too. How does fair before level 7 ? Just focused on archery skills?
Yes, mainly. With a couple of rouge skills, namely: Below the Belt and Dirty Fighting. Dirty Fighting is very useful for low level characters and Below the Belt will be good all the way through. :)
Nice work.. will try this build then
So I know it's been answered in several different places that you can't have multiple summons on console... but can you still "glitch" a command to a single summons during the same summons "window" PC users get?
I have no idea, I have never played DAO on consoles.
Oh wonderful another video! :^)
In this case, since everyone is an archer, I set all of them up as Ranged, and give them pretty much the same commands:
Enemy - Elite or Higher - Scattershot
Enemy - Elite or Higher - Arrow of Slaying
Self - Being attacked be melee - Dirty Fighting
Enemy - Armor - Medium or High - Shattering Shot
Self - Being attacked by melee - Below the Belt
These commands on two archers would devastate everything with the pets.
Leliana:
Self - Any - Song of Courage
Self - Any - Summon Wolf(Summon Bear in Dragon fights)
Zevran:
Enemy - Rank - Boss of higher - Mark of Death
Self - Any - Summon Wolf(Summon Bear in dragon fights)
Zevran might not be able to pick up Scattershot depending on when you get him, because he will run out of talent points. But this is pretty much their whole AI build.
The pets you can only program when you summon them initially and you click on the notification that their tactics slots are unlocked. If you don't click it, you will not have access to their tactics menu.
Wolves will have all the dog abilities unlocked in the tactics menu:
Enemy - Nearest visible - Growl
Enemy - Nearest visible - Howl
Enemy - Rank - Boss or higher - Overwhelm
Self - Being attacked by melee - Dread Howl
Enemy - Rank - Elite or higher - Shred
Enemy - Uses attacking type - Magic - Charge
Bears are tanks and they don't have many abilities, so you use them during dragon fights only:
Self - Any - Rage
Enemy - Rank - Boss or higher - Slam
They have overwhelm, but since you only use them against dragons(because the dogs are more useful in any other battle), you don't have to set that up.
what is the best party and their class if you play as a mage?
1 healer mage 1 shield/sword tank and 1 what?
Rogue.
You definitely need an archer or a backstabber in that party. You also need someone who can pick locks, which is something only rogues can do.
s o this always resets pets tactic correct ?
You have to set it up after each summoning, yes.
@@AKisHerceg ok. Thanks much

You can assign the tactics right after you summoned them. You will have a very short window, until the “tactics slots unlocked” message disappears. :)

True, that is a bit annoying. But you don't have to set the tactics up completely. You just have to quickly pick a few skills that will get you through the specific fight you are doing. Overwhelm is always useful, other than that you only need Charge and occasionally Dread Howl. It only takes less than 20 sec to quickly set them up. :)

Do you know why the "tactics slots acquired" when I summon my pets doesn't show up?
I have no idea. It might be the game version? I use the Ultimate Edition.

No problem. :)
Nope, the archer is definitely full dex, since your ranged damage is boosted by dex alone.
Dog has more health, more damage, and more talents. Morrigan can have more armor, but that is pretty much it. Plus she is vulnerable to Dispel and Glyph of Neutralization, unlike the Dog.
Can you make videos on dragon age 2 builds. I haven't played it in ages and could use some good builds you usually come up with. Nice video btw!
Yup. My "Trilogy Builds" series is on its way! :)
What did your tactics look like for everyone ?
I think it was:
Enemy - Elite or lower: Summon Wolf
Enemy - Boss or higher: Summon Bear
Enemy - Boss or higher: Arrow of Slaying
Enemy - Elite or higher: Pinning Shot
Enemy - Uses melee Attack: Shattering Shot
Enemy - Target at range - Close or medium: Scatter Shot
Zevran had the Mark of Death set up for bosses and Leliana had the Song of Valor set as automatic.
The dogs had Overwhelm set up for Elites or Bosses, the rest is pretty much Any or Target attack part member. The Bears had Rage as automatic and Slam set up on bosses.
@@AKisHerceg thank you so much ☺️
@@Game_was_Rigged No problem! :)

Yes, everything is on Nightmare. :)
That party is totally viable! :)
@@AKisHerceg , thank you !
My only issues with my build was in the fade for Mage's circle. You can't summon animals in the Fade, and I did not not take skills to help in close combat
Well this friggin owns
Amazing. Good video!
Thank you! :)
What are the tactics you using for your companions and you and your pets plz help
Wouldnt it be better to go cunning instead of dex so that you can use song of courage or even multiple songs of courage on your summons?
That is also totally viable! I prefer not to get hit by enemies(and I love high hit chance as well), but ideally, your summons can get in the way of your enemies providing you great meat shields, so yup, if you feel like going for cunning, you can do that. :)
@@AKisHerceg Wait does lethality not work on bows?
@@luisalberto-st8bnit does for the cunning multiplier, but the critical chance is only on melee attacks.
Song can be done by Lel, she has it
Wow, this build is amazing!
@@AKisHerceg Okay, I get it, thanks.
Yes but how does a Ranger do against the harvester on hard or nightmare

@@Multistrangedude1 Everything on my channel is on Nightmare and/or the hardest difficulty in any game. :)
What about your companions. What skills do they use and stats except for ranger?
@@Arkaskas1 Yup, if the Repeater gets nerfed, the build will perform worse.
Dose this work for xbox or pc only?, great video either way!
Yes, and no. The build works everywhere, but based on some feedback, the consoles don't support multiple pets. They de-summon when there are more then one, so sadly you can't have your own little zoo. :)
Just got it on pc now im back to give this build a go haha
What are the additional skills you have unlocked? Is that a mod or DLC or what?!
@@faytherogue1708 Yes, those are the new abilities from Awakening. :)
Does this work on consoles?
I have never played the game on consoles, but I am guessing the mechanics are basically the same(from the footage I saw actually, Archery is much better there since there is no aim speed penalty - therefore your dps is higher).
I am not sure why it wouldn't work on consoles. :)
Great post, thanks
My only issues with this is your using a bow instead of dagger and you need an entire party to become a ranger
Well, you need more people to have more pets, but you can be a ranger alone as well. :)
Naturally, this works with daggers as well, but since the animals provide such amazing protection(enemies can easily get distracted by them) archery is perfect for a hard-hitting yet safe playthrough by keeping your distance.
Because of the ability to just basically put everything on Dexterity, you can end up having a ton of damage with a bow and skills like Arrow of Slaying(kills everything up to Elite level with one shot) and Scattershot can destroy single targets or even disable crowds.
@@AKisHerceg I do agree that dex archer are the best build and you make an interesting point
The reason of using bow is to stay safe, using dagger might make you get trapped in the crowd and enemy (or your) mage(s) might shoot Fire Balls or other AoE as according to their AI. You'll never know these damn mages, they might cast spells behind walls or doors lol
First tell me how the f I can get stable 60 fps? The game run like crap even with the 4GB patch and mods
But then j have to watch my lil bear die 😢
Not even sure if I could use a singe Arrow of Slaying that way and I love using Scattershot and Shattering Shot as well.
Yes, archers do have a great advantage, since they can attack from distance and a target can have unlimited amount attackers when it comes to archers. :)
Yup, I love BM with Rangers to get back the health, since Bears have plenty to "spread around".
Traps are the hidden treasure of Origins.
@@BelieveIt1051 "I only found one or two spots in Origins where traps were useful"
You should check out my video! :)
In Origins, you can use the traps to instantly(or almost instantly) kill: The High Dragon, Flemeth, Ser Cauthrien(if you place the traps before going down to the dungeons), The Harvester, and Loghain(by using Stealth).

What version of the game are you playing with, and on which platform? Also, do you have any mods installed?
Every character can only summon 1 pet at once
@@bloodytroll9626 Well, at least on pc, this is not entirely true.
Normally, yes they can just summon one, but there is a glitch that allows you to have two, if you summon one right after the other. For example: if you summon a wolf, while you are doing the summon animation, you click on the bear or spider, you will automatically summon the spider/bear without the wolf de-spawning.
The stamina will be deducted for both pets. You can do this with all of your rogues, netting a total of 6 pets(+the dog if you bring him too).

Pro - the dog will not get unsummoned as a permanent party member, can find random stuff, can equip kaddis and collar as we wanted, can level up as we wanted.
Below the belt - is an epic skill) I love to kill dragons and ogres with it)) it looks so funny - giant monster died from the kick)
The hardest fight in the game in my opinion is the wolf random encounter early, on nightmare or the LotR ringwraith rare encounter at a low level on nightmare.
