I grew up in the same neighborhood as Rod, he was friends with my next door neighbor. I remember Rod playing drums in a band that won a local "battle of the bands" playing an original piece and it was really innovative and fun music to listen to. My friends and I were so jazzed to see and hear Rod in the Dixie Dregs, playing the kind music we were already listening to at that time. This also introduced us to Steve Morse and his truly scorching guitar work, making us fans of his and the Dregs for many years to come. And then seeing that Rod was playing with Winger put a huge smile on my face as well, he had hit the "big time" and truly deserved to do so. Thanks for doing this interview, it really captures what I remember about Rob even way-back-when, his being a truly approachable and really nice guy. Cheers.
I think that's great. I first saw John Mclaughlin, Al di Meola, Paco De Lucia, and Steve Morse in 82 at the shell in Waikiki. All acoustic. Best show in my life.
Dixie Dregs is my favorite band of all time, tied with Steve Morse Band (a trio). Love Rod Morgenstein, amazing how easily he can follow all of Steve Morse's metric changes.
Rod greetings from Toronto Canada I own all the dregs cds . You are a terrific drummer and I wish the dregs had played in Toronto. I gather the only time you came up was when I was traveling in Europe after graduation. Hear your teaching at a music college. Your students are lucky All the best G
When Rod talked about the Roxy at 4:30 I got chills. I was 13 years old and my brother, who is ten years older than me, (and a guitar player) took me to see the Dixie Dregs at the Roxy. I was placed at one of the front tables and literally leaned on the stage just like Rod described! I'll never forget the feeling of seeing musicians play music like I heard it in my young head. I was hooked from then on and have seen Steve Morse over 50 times since then in everything from the Dixie Dregs, to The Dregs, The Steve Morse Band, Deep Purple and Flying Colors. I was also lucky enough to catch one of the reunion tour shows Rod talked about in 2018. Right from the beginning, I so admired Rod, not just because he is a monster drummer but also because we always stayed around after the show to talk to the band and he was the most gracious guy, truly and genuinely a nice human. Every member of that band was on another level. Thank you Rod, for giving music lovers like me the chance to experience your beautiful music.
Rod Morgenstein seem so happy and has the right attitude "I was there.. To work!". I would LOVE to see The Dixie Dregs even if they, for some reason, can't have all original members. I have no doubt they'll find someone who could do the job (whatever the job is). The music speaks for itself. Very good interview this. I hope it reaches many people!

Even Ritchie Blackmore didn't have any decent things to say about Joe Lynn Turner ! While Rod was winning awards for his drumming talent , somehow Joe thought otherwise ! ... Bizarre indeed ! ...
It's hard for me to believe that Rod didn't get anyone of the jobs he auditioned for. I have him in my top five drummers of all time. Joe Lynn Turner knows nothing about drumming obviously. The only reason I can think of for him not getting these gigs is overplaying. He should have easily gotten anyone of those gigs.

Great line up my guitar teacher talked about the dregs and Steve non stop
Rod one of the most beautiful guys ever, like Roger Daltrey is to Peter Townsend, Rod is to the Dregs. So good to see this interview
Rod seems cool. The Dregs were/are awesome. Front row in Sacramento a few years ago. Great show!!
They are touring
Rod is awesome! I love Dixie Dregs! Thanks for sharing this 👏 ! I liked the stories and questions in this interview!

Very good interview this. I hope it reaches many people!
Thanks Jack, part 3 is coming out later.
Great stories, Rod is such a nice guy and a joy to listen to. Congrats!
Thank you very much. He is a very cool guy, trying to set up another interview this year with him and a special guest.
How in the world could anyone say he was a horrible drummer just baffles my mind.
Rod was able to bring a lot of his adventurous drumming in Winger. Rainbow in the Rose alone got some true progressive patterns.
Awesome content !
I'd sh!t a brick if I looked out and saw all those fusion legends sitting in the audience.
Indeed
Thank G-d, Rod moved New York.
I end up studying with him at DCI 😊
That’s very cool!😎
Joe Lynn turner wow

Where's Part One?
Hi, glad you are asking about it. Here is the link to Part 2..musicxplorer.com/artists/rod-morgenstein-part-two/
Dude, the Corabi album…
I will look this up
Good god. How incredibly non-musical Joe Lynn Turner must really be.
Even Ritchie Blackmore didn't have any decent things to say about Joe Lynn Turner ! While Rod was winning awards for his drumming talent , somehow Joe thought otherwise ! ... Bizarre indeed ! ...
Joe Lynn Turner must be tone deaf not to have recognised Rod’s brilliance when he heard him!

100% agree!
