I spent the last few months living in Dublin. I came here to write and, as I had been told by that good lad in Bray, "that's the one thing we beat the British at, literature". I lived near Phibsborough, just across from Blessington Basin, and my first image of Dublin was people sleeping on the streets, asking for money or getting a fix in front of everyone. My friend told me he was leaving after five days, but I stayed, and thank God I did. I discovered one of the most diverse and interesting cities in the world, full of beautiful spots and history. I walked it all and fell in love with it, with its people - the Irish, the kindest people around - and with everything the city had to offer, from Howth down to the Liffey, Dawson Street - beautiful Dawson Street - and Dún Laoghaire. Now that I'm back, I deeply miss those streets Joyce would write so much about. As a foreigner, I would urge every Irish person to discover their city, and not to hate it (as I've often found). Dublin it's a gem. Go raibh maith agat as gach rud, a Bhaile Átha Cliath.
I live just outside Dublin in Meath and I love Dublin. I head there for gigs, cinema, shopping, or just a days wandering all the time. Of course there are problems and horrible areas of the city too but there's also so much beauty and character and history. and the areas like Howth, Killiney, Malahide, etc are gorgeous. Every city has both good and bad aspects.
As natives of whatever city we live in, we tend to focus on the negative. I live in New York and I have a some friends who have moved from London to Dublin. They have made me see the city in a whole new light again. Yes you can get bored in New York City and focus on the negative and there are many of those, but we have to recognize every city has their pluses and minuses. It’s just the way it is it’s how we focus on them, I really appreciate your video. My dad is from Mayo so I have family and I get back there frequently but I love Dublin
I went on one of those Ghost Bus tours and it was honestly great craic, got to see parts of the city I wouldn't have taken a second glance at before, in a new light. Brilliant video by the way!
I've the same bittersweet feeling as you. I live on the edge of Dublin (closer to Kildare than town but dw about it) and I never really spend much time in the city, I don't really have a reason to, but I go through it a lot when I'm going to other places just outside, mainly on the DART because let's be honest, most of the nice places are on the DART. I think maybe that's one of the things that makes our city special, you never need to go far to get out of it and into nature. Likewise, you never have to travel far to be in the middle of it all. It's not perfect but it's ours, and we love it.
I just moved to Dublin yesterday to study here for 3 years. Something about the city gives me the feeling of home even though I'm from a totally different part of Europe. Love it here! Be proud of your country and city!
I can relate to this a lot, i live in dublin too and i’d never understand what’s so special about this place until i saw this video and made me realise why people would spend lots of money coming here. i appreciate that the tourists love the streets and tourist area’s i walk in so often and never really thought about. very awesome video ❤️🇮🇪
I'm so excited to watch this because i can alread ytell there's so much honesty. artistry and journalistic pursuit . i grew up in toronto and hate it often too, but i know there's a lot of factors involved. and so many people move to Toronto every year, including Irish! also the look at 6:27 was inconic
great video! i acc have thought about doing this a bunch of times. Like tourists come over and see all sights more than i've seen my whole life living here
I am in Ireland all the way from Himalayas (Everest region). Finally found someone from Ireland creating content. Would love to film together someday. I want to capture each and every part of whole Ireland . Cheers 🤙🤙
I think every dubliner has that same feeling, and I just truly believe is that the city centre and surrounding area is so small that after living for so many years it’s just boring, the same pubs the same night clubs the same everything while if you fly over to England every single area has it’s own club it’s own pubs boozers communities where people go to different ones meet different people it’s a lot more things to do why I’ve moved out and live in Manchester now.
I was up in dublin a few weeks back for the rammstein concert and had a group of spanish tourists cough at me because I was sat down having a cigarette. Not sure what this has to do with the video but im still thinking about it a few weeks later. Bastards. Great video though man.
I think it's kinda natural that most people play down or even hate their city tbh. I know I have said it about Dublin myself for nearly 15 years. The Celtic Tiger days were peak for us Dubs especially. But it's kinda more a city centre and price thing now rather than other things some will cry about. Like Howth, Clontarf, Malahide, Killney, and Portmarnock are grand spots and the likes of Rathfarnham and Terenure, too. But again. Prices, prices and prices.
@Ciangannon It wouldn't be a bad idea for a future video especially given the way you film and talk. Just venturing out to specific towns in Dublin and highlighting some of the nice aspects. Not sure how feasible it is, but alas. Tourists need to see Dublin beyond the Guiness factory, Temple Bar and airport itself for sure.
i love the video, i do think whoever was colourgrading needs to turn down the saturation, youre eyes looked like they had a circular rash in the temple bar part
Thank you, and interesting I think RUclips’s compression might have played a part in that but I can keep an “eye” out for that next time and correct the rash lol
As a French from Marseille whows working in Dublin last 3 years, I do really enjoy the city. At this point I do enjoy normal life as we were travelling around the Ireland first few months. Ive met a lot of nice people, not just Irish but from all over the world(not at temple bar) but at techno raves mostly but city itself is very safe, a bit expensive but overall its great. Just fix the weather please
Growing up here the south side definitely has the nice beaches and on the north howth but its always packed the city itself is an absolute shithole in my opinion some of the pubs are good but tbh nowhere on this planet compares to the west of Ireland wild and full of the culture were known for. If your looking for the real Irish go to the west and you'll see why people say its one of the most beatiful countrys on earth. Dublin has lost a lot of its culture sure the junkies will be nice if you offer them a rollie but not much else

Complaining that you don't like Dublin and it turns out you've never been to the Temple Bar. Then you complain that it's too noisy. I gave you a downvote for that, sorry. Yes, I live here too.
How you balance the humour and heart so perfectly i’ll never know but take a bow because you bloody aced it as always! Such a great watch 🔥🙌
Coming from the best movie reviewer around that means a lot🔥📹
Irish people are usually good at balancing humour and heart
