Instead of salt, use chicken bouillon (veggie bouillon for the non meat eaters). Adds even more depth of flavor, 👍🏾

I buy a kosher vegan product which is indistinguishable from real chicken bouillon
I like his video because he gives each and every information a beginner needs to know . No matter how silly they are.
I've made this several times. It's always HUGELY popular, especially with teens! Grandkids request it every family gathering.
Cayenne pepper is also really nice in a cheese bechamel sauce like this one. I add cayenne with the nutmeg and it works really nicely together.

My only tweak to this great recipe is adding 5oz of Fontina to replace 5oz of Gruyere. So Cheddar/Gruyere/Fontina. Fontina is hands down the most slept-on cheese in America. Melty, great on a burger, so many uses! Love this video. Thanks!

I’ve had a few people tell me nutmeg is really good in Mac and cheese but I’ve been skeptical. Seeing you add to your recipe I gave to try it now.
I make this recipe 2-3 times per year! It’s the best baked mac and cheese recipe. I add some velveeta to help it stay creamy even after it cools down.
I wish the deli counter would grate your cheese for you like they’ll slice meat for you or at the butcher’s counter they’ll butterfly or grind meat fresh for you. It would make things so much easier 😊

That looks great! Love the English cheddar. I mix in a tablespoon of English mustard powder into the flour to make the béchamel. Adds a lovely undertone of flavour.

I like a couple of dashes of hot sauce myself, but the mustard does blend well with the sharp cheddar.
Worcestershire sauce is also a good flavoring addition.
A pinch of cayenne also adds a bit of umami.

I always find making my own white béchamel then add Munster cheese is so good. Then I shred four types of cheese then a Parmesan cheese crisp or crumbs for the toppings with a little shred Parmesan. This made my mouth water when watching.

VERY similar to my Dad's "Famous" Mac and cheese (adapted from a Good Housekeeping cookbook YEARS ago). We use mustard powder and a cheddar/fontina mixture as our cheeses of choice for a good cheese pull and flavor!! Happy Mac-ing!

Such a treat! I add one tsp of sweet mustard and one tsp of sriracha to the béchamel sauce + half a clove of garlic to the simmering butter before mixing in the crumbs.

I made this for dinner tonight. I usually just make up my recipe but this was delicious and we all loved it especially the panko breadcrumbs
If someone doesn't like nutmeg just don't trust them.
😂 Lol Well, that's maybe not logical, but it's a whole lot better than lying to them ! That just makes the cook the one who can't be trusted, doesn't it.
And if you know that they can't taste whether there's nutmeg in there in there or not, then why put it in?
But I confess that I, as a dog-lover, when I meet a person who dislikes dogs then I don't really trust them either. Also illogical 😂.
Mac and Cheese has been a fav of mine forever. A trick I learned from my mom----to keep from getting a steam facial, just run cold water in the sink while draining the pasta., obviously beside the pasta not over it.
Why would you pass on a free facial?
I learned to run cold water over the pasta to stop the cooking while I'm making the cheese sauce so the noodles don't get mooshy. I like the pasta al dente (spelled wrong idk?)
This is absolutely the best macaroni and cheese that I have ever made. We make it every Christmas Eve now!
He's so polite respectful and funny I have made a few of his recipes good teacher schools needs someone like him for home economics every child should learn to cook they have to be prepared to take care of themselves on how to cook. I just tried this recipe for thanksgiving 2023 and it’s so delicious. I added a lot of black pepper, salt , and a little chicken bouillon to add extra deliciousness in your mouth. It’s in the oven and it’s delicious right now
I'm originally from Vermont, so for me, it's got to be Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar. Lol
For the crumb I usually add some parmesan cheese to the panko mix

I was alarmed when you said shredded cheese has cellulose, so I looked it up. Only Sargento and Walmart Great Value brands had cellulose, the others (Kroger, Tillamook, Kraft, Safeway had only potato starch and/or corn starch.

That looks so delicious.😋🤤 I love my Nana's mac n cheese that she usually makes at parties or holidays that are a favorite. She taught my mom to make it so she would bake some when her job had a party and make a small bach for home. But I want to try adding the breadcrumbs when my mom teaches me.

The sound it makes when you smooth it over in the casserole dish means there's the right amount of sauce in with your pasta. Just right.
Add some grated onion and garlic to the meted butter and a pinch of cayenne before adding the flour. ❤
