Thank you so much! I was dismayed about what to do after removing a lot of old flaking paint from an early 1920s house, only to find a gap between the ceiling and wall - at least it seems a simple fix! Man, I love youtube, and people who make videos with tips like this! Thank you

I mean, if you use frog tape, you’ll actually get a sharp line as well as filling the crack.

How long do you think that repair will last - 6 months? I find decorators caulk useless in longterm repairs. I would suggest using Sticks like S**t which has a strong adhesive component.

Exactly… the chaulking seperates from the dry wall. I’m looking at a botched up chaulking job as we speak ugh 😣

Please help...how do I repair when this cracks too?? Bought my place and ceiling -wall joint had already been caulked. Now it’s cracked and looks bad. Trying to avoid tearing drywall when removing old caulk...
Should probably add that the caulking was painted and not nearly as trim and neat as yours.

Depending on how much has built up - your best bet is to score the bad caulk with a knife and then you can use a 5-in-1 tool to scrape it away. I've also used a paint scraper with a carbide tip. Sometimes a bit of the dry wall or wood might get damaged but pre-scoring and scraping small sections should prevent that. Once you've got it all cleared away, you might need to use some wall putty to fill in and smooth it out. Sand it all smooth and THEN apply paintable caulk - then touch up your paint. Anything caulk that's started to bubble or peel up really needs to be scraped and removed. I had to do this to a ton of caulk alone baseboards and doors in my house and re-do it all. Remember if you've scraped a good bit away, after you putty and sand it smooth - add some primer to bring the wall texture in line with the rest of your painted wall.

Would it be bad to seal it with silicone ?

I've been told and learned not to use silicone with these repairs I used regular dap white caulk and turned out fine when finished painting

@@tooljunkie555 how long ago was the first repair? Has the structure underwent temperature difference that could cause the cracks to re-emerge..
