    Beautiful grotto…don’t see them much up here in DE. Love old houses! My mother used to make us stop to explore abandoned cemeteries…lots of plants in those. Will use as many native Delaware plants as I can and fill in with other North Eastern varieties.

    Was planning to incorporate a blessed Mary statue for a long while. When I finally drove to buy one, i got pulled over and ticketed. 😅 my friend said when you choose a spot, bear in mind she will stay there at least 30 years. She's chillin by the birdbath now near the cement pelican i unearthed when first starting the garden.

    Hi guys! I do gardening at my mom’s and she lives in West Lawn just south of Midway Airport. I want to plant compact trees around the height of 10’ to 15”. She has power lines going across the garden so the trees can’t be tall. The space is very sunny and hot with clay soil. I planted a small dogwood “Golden Shadows”. I was thinking of Rising Sun Redbud. What native small trees/shrubs can you recommend. I only want native or nativars that benefit wildlife. I would appreciate your help.

    While you look at front yards, could you please review how to tell if that Phlox was Phlox paniculata versus a cultivar? Are their sexy parts different? Do you tell by petal color? When a cultivar is sterile, is there morphology that is different and indicates sterility? Thanks!

    That second one, there's a house on my street like that - it's all cinderblock, the facade ones were poured in a mold to make them look like rusticated stone, but it's not actually rock or anything. What a great front yard, though. Operation destroy yer lawn a full success there.

    Where i live we got such shrines as well, called "Mariagrotten". They usually are made to look like caves(grotto meaning cave ofc), which is funny because most of my country doesn't have rocks, let alone caves. Some parts of it wouldn't even exist if the Dutch didn't make it themselves. So to see a cave is a bit of an anomaly. Always peaceful places to be and guaranteed to have a bench and maybe even water.
    Warm greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱.

      Some people think that mortar and brick is like playing with mud a blocks, but it a fine art.

    • @foamer443
      @foamer443 3 месяца назад +1

      Was a Sparky for near 35 years, as an Apprentice it was my job to co-ordinate with the Brickies to install and run the conduit in the block. They weren't doing anything fancy but they were a good crew who on the whole looked out for a 1st termer like me and showed me a few things when it came to finishing on block. Knowledge I put to good use in my own trade at times and on my own house.
      It's a shame no one builds houses with the brick detail and sophisticated nuance as was done with Victorian and early Edwardian eras. Expensive as hell I realize but it goes to show what can be done with simple clay and mortar.
