I took writing classes in college, and one of the pieces of advice I received was, "Successful writers take their characters, trap them in a tree, throw rocks at them while trapped, then successfully and believably get them out of the tree." A good deal of writers today seem to have trouble with this.
Exactly mate, there's a massive problem with today's writers: they write like children. It's always "and then, and then, and then..." with no logical progression whatsoever. Just actions in quick succession with hollow shells known as characters. The sad state of current mainstream Hollywood.

Brie is so over powered she destroyed her own movie.
The funny thing about the switch only happening as the plot demands is, they could have explained it away easily.
When two of them use their powers they switch. When all 3 use their powers, it balances them back out so no switch.
Quick and easy, allows room to brush off non-switch usage as the third one doing something offscreen, and forces them to work together.
These writers do not have imagination. They got their money for other things

The fall of empires opening was fantastic. Blockbuster and big, luscious hair were particularly heartbreaking, IMHO. The section on the musical score was very well presented. Great video on a less than great movie. :)

I really dont understand why they need three super-heros with unlimited power. Just one would be enough. I mean, she is able to re-start the sun as it was her oven. By the way, Monica Rambeau is dressed as a F1 Alpha Tauri pit crew.
It's so dumb to have 3 super op characters as your leads. I just creates so many problems that the writers clearly couldn't keep up with. My god...you're right about Rambeau hahaha.

Regarding the musical segment: as I have only seen reviews of the film, for me it looks like it's just a Bollywood stand-in. I wouldn't expect more.

I'd not hit it so hard if it were just a random musical number like in Eternals, but here, the concept was: the planet can only speak in song. At that point you've got to do something better than a standard musical segment.

Yeah, definitely written by multiple AI each of which was unknown to the others. Then combined together by a group of human writers each with his/her wants and desires.
This movie really does feel like AI had a hand in making it. But then again, I think AI's current state could write a better movie hahaha

Great review. I’m so glad you talked about stakes and why the movie lacked it. In any story you genuinely want to get the feeling that a character can fail. Even if we know for plot reasons they can’t just creating that illusion matters a lot. Take Puss n Boots the Last Wish. Puss lost against Wolf the first time around. Heck he cut him. When he faces him a second time around, even though Puss wins; it’s a hard fought battle that pushes him to his limit. And also I’d like to emphasize how the opening scene of that movie showcased Puss’ capabilities. So it’s a really good juxtaposition. An animated movie managed to do something this basic and in depth compared to this 200 plus million movie.
You can't have Spoilers for The Marvels precisely because the whole movie is spoiled. Nothing is necessary, nothing is explained, nothing matters.

The hero (heroes) are not the female leads in the film but the “clowder or clutter” of cats hatched from goose eggs sorry Goose’s eggs. These however turn out to not be cats but Flerken. So yep a clowder or clutter of Flerken came to the rescue of those on the space station.

Great review. Subbed. I agree this movie was half baked and wish we were given more as far as the current phase of the marvel universe is concerned . Oh well at least GOTG filled in the void of giving us a proper Marvel movie this phase but the problem is it's just isn't enough.

She doesn't deserve nothing: she finds no problems with slavery (the irony is strong in this one), got powers because she incidentally walk through a force shield and got some spotlight at the ending because the plot wouldn't let her be a irrelevant character, which she is. The real waste was binding the X-Men introduction to her. And using the background that she was abandoned by Miss Marvel after being orphan, so people should be sad about her is lame... A black child losing a parent... This is really, really, so unique to her, as if it isn't common orphan kids exit, even more being black, right? Because of that she can have or do whatever she wants? She isn't dislikable as Captain Marvel, but Captain Marvel at least has a history that makes half sense, when Rambo gets everything just because... well... everyone know why.

I think all of these creators are hamstrung by a corporation who refuses to allow individuality. They want every IP to be chock full of princesses, because princesses is all they’ve ever known. We were all excited when the Fox sale made Marvel whole, without fully understanding the ramification, due to the corporation’s seemingly allowance of individuality and film creativity. Sadly, all of this was a smokescreen, allowing the Thanos project to conclude, before igniting their Princess Agenda. Ever wonder why the Russo brothers walked away? They saw the writing on the wall, having to shoehorn Danvers into a film they basically had in the can. Their two part Thanos conclusion was the beginning of corporate meddling, and once they finished their cuts, they left to make films without meddling.
This is a big reason as to why I have faith in DC's new vision now. They're bringing in different directors, with varying visions that'll compliment the source material. Every movie will (I really hope) feel different. I think MCU Phase 1 is a pretty good example of this. Iron Man/Thor/The First Avenger/Incredible Hulk all had their respective tones, but managed to mesch perfectly 2012's The Avengers. After that it all became the same, until Gunn stepped in with GOTG1. Sadly, they all started copying his style right after & became homogenized again. The MCU is dead anyways at this point, because the worldbuilding is totally FUBAR.

And your ideas would not have even required major changes to the movie but adjustments that would have definitely improved it. I just think that they need to hire competent writers. If you check IMDB, a lot of the Phase 4 & 5 writers have almost no prior work, except for a few Rick & Morty or RobotChicken episodes. So being thrusted into a multi-million dollar production that is largely run by its producers and not directors doesn't give them any time to craft a decent script, let alone write one on the fly while they're shooting. A great example I give is Shane Black, actor & writer on the original Predator film. They were writing it on the go, but it still managed to be a fantastic film because he had experience.

Yeah, that was probably good. There are interesting things to be said about pandering, it's just that, this isn't bad because it's pandering, it's bad because it's poor quality. The politics was a desperate plea to make up for the fact they can't trust themselves to provide good ideas.
I've read tons of stuff with identity politics folded into the narrative. Having intentional diversity is NOT something that will inherently break your story. It's actually an asset, when you give it the honor it deserves.

04:35 It is clear here Kamala and Rambo are using their powers at the same time RIGHT now ( Kamala shine thing and Rambo flying ). So why RIGHT at that time no "teleportation" ocurred? And why Captain Marvel hits the ground if, again, no teleportation happened when it should have happened? And why just Captain Marvel hits the groung if it was TWO of the trio falling ( at least all I saw in the trailers is that the teleportations are always one girl for another girl, not 2 for 1)? I know the video point is to show how the movie doesn't respect its own rules, but maybe someone reading my comment has any explanation for what I just pointed out...
I'm telling ya mate, the film tried on several occassions to say it happens when they 2 or more of the trio use their powers together but it doesn't hold up at all throughout the film until the plot needs it to. So some scenes of the movie have them changing powers when 2 or 3 people use them, but in other scenes (like the one where Kamala is falling and Rambeau tries to save her), all 3 are supposed to be using their powers but nobody is switching places until the very end, when they touch the ground, so Carol can take the fall. It's utter rubbish.

Its almost as if applying woke Mary Sue crap to a Marvel movie isn't a good idea.
Here's what I can bet you. If men, who are clearly not wanted by Disney and mainstream brands started their own new thing where they get the heroes and arcs they yearn for, leaving women to take all this MCU and stuff, you will find that the women will drop the MC (and stuff) and follow the men to demand representation and "strong female characters" there.
All this drama (pun unintended) has nothing to do with representation and everything to do with disrupting men's joy.
That's a fair point, It's more outrage & nitpicking what was already great in the first place. Some of my favorite protagonists ever are women. But today they'll say that Jennifer Lawrence was the first ever woman in an action film. It's a damn joke at this point.
We are boycotting Disney due to the agendas they push. Sold all our Disney stock as well. Such a shame as our children were raised on Disney and we loved them a decade ago.

Marvel movies in the last 4 years are so bad it's embarrassing to watch them. And you can't even feel pity for them because they have the budget, the actors and the means. They just use the wrong writers/directors.

Sadly, it's a case of unlimited budget = no creativity.
A lot of the best films were born from lack of funds, which inspired creativity. Marvel thought they were too big to fail, and as they say: the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
I liked Ms. Marvel, it was a series for teens but Kamala was fleshed out and the series was adorable so I'm around 33% curious about the movie - if only to enjoy Imam Vellani's funny faces and Teyonah Parris.

Oh I totally agree. Candyman is arguably the worst mainstream horror movie i've ever seen...ever. But it had some decently crafted horror sequences. Story & acting were utter trash.
Tony Todd & Virgina Madsen from the 92' original are unmatched. One of my all time favorite horrors, easy pick.

we were thoroughly entertained, if you go into a movie in hater mode, then yes you'll hate everything about it but that applies to anything. personally i try to get my money's worth going into any movie and make an attempt to enjoy what i'm watching, so the movie has to stumble and bomb really hard for me to go on the kind of angry tirades that have been directed towards this movie. it was a 3/5... the singing planet was lame but everything else was fun

There ARE fantastically written films and shows with strong female characters that will appeal to both sexes. Disney is only looking for crap stories, execrably written to wrap around female characters no one cares about.
But after watching and suffering through IBS from The Marvels, I watched 1883 and it restored my faith that there ARE good stories with fantastic writing for strong female characters that both sexes can relate to. I dare anyone to watch the first 4 minutes of Episode 1 and not want to find out more about Elsa Dutton's story. Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Sam Elliot give outstanding performances with cameos by Tom Hanks and Billy Bob Thornton. But it is Isabel May as 17 year old Elsa that steals the show and is at the heart of not just 1883, but also all the seasons of the shows 1923 and Yellowstone with Harrison Ford and Kevin Costner.
Boycotting groomers is easy.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in the video, but stakes in relation to the use of her powers. There's basically no stakes because the film's already established that if the trio needs to get out of a situation they can because the writers deem it so (seen by the inconsistencies of how the core concept works). If the concept was held, she wouldn't even by able to fly, because that would automatically mean switching places with Kamala, adding real tension, as we genuinly wouldn't know how they could make it out of that situation without violently crashing into the ground (the cop-out here was having Carol smash into the ground since she's indestructable).

the mcu died in 2018. the 3 ok movies that came out since then are either sony or james gunn. a very few have been mid -at best- but the majority was ass. switching places should have also involved switching powers forcing them to adjust to the others abilities. not being able to fly, not knowing how to fly, forced to use the others offense and defense, etc. then you find a way for them to control the swapping at the cost of stamina or powers so they harder they control it the weaker they get. what an uninspired pile of shit.

HI my name is William & I am tired of U-T videos like these saying such negative comments on Marvel films like the reascent captain marvel movie was so bad or the other marvel films that this video menchioned. I am tired of so many people making videos that only speak about hate & not more on the issues that need to be talked about. I am tired of so many people just talking about hate for different things that haters just want to hate. I agree that the MCU needs to do better but I still enjoyed watching all the different marvel movies & shows that the MCU had made reasently. Theirs no need to say so much hateful things about the MCU's movies & shows, but instead say more things like how the MCU needs to do an animated Avengers show or a Guardians of the Galaxy show or Spider-Man show that's part of the MCU time line that takes place before & after the advents of key MCU movies like Winter soldier & Age of Ultron than maybe we could have convince marvel studios to make those shows years ago before Avengers Infinity war premiered. So at this point a reboot could work If done right. First of all know that the MCU has the rights to make X-Men & Fantastic four movies they should make X-Men & Fantastic Four movies, origin stories apart of the Phase 1 tine line. Even though the phase 1 movie slot was completed years ago when they made the origin stories movies of Captain America & Iron man they should still make origin movie stories of the X-Men & Fantastic Four done right. Like for the X-Men Ware they do a proper origin story of How Charles Xavier & Aric became friends than enemies & how Charles assembled the original X-Men team that include, Cyclops, Ice-Man, Beast, Angel & Jean. Other Marvel films like the first Avengers movie can remain the same but they can readue Civil War, than have a proper secret invasion movie & show that is more like the comics & has the X-Men & Fantastic Four characters interacting the the more well loved MCU hero's that we have become accustom to seeing more often . In addition make Animated MCU shows & comics based on the MCU characters that we were first introduce to to their movies like the avengers & Guardians of The Galaxy teams as well as the other hero teams that I menchioned. So we can get more invested in those versions of well known marvel comics characters so we can learn more of their MCU back stories & get nore invested in them to make us more hipped for when they appear in big MCU movies like Infinity war. Like what Stan Lee & marvel comics did with Marvel comic superhero stories for decades. Also readue the agents for shield so show the first season begins before & during the advents of the first wave of Phase one movies tuck place in that time line . TO give us more InSite of well known shield characters like Phil Coulson than do a second season to introduce us to the next generation. Than end the show properly not like how It ended originally & have Quake become the director of Sheild & apart of the to Infinity war films. Also what the MCU should have done for Thanos is do what their doing with Kang right know give him more brief appearances & give him more screen time in other marvel shows & movies to really get the fans aware of how he's going to be such a big bad & will be when he appears in Infinity war. When Marvel first introduce Thanos in the comics they didn't just have him appear in a Infinity War comic right away they had him first appear in different marvel comics like Avengers, Captain Marvel & Silver-Surfer than Infinity Quest so readers will know how much of a threat he is so when he appears in infinity gauntlet they can expect that he will do a lot of bad things. That is ware those extra shows & comics would have came in to do that right. Or If doing what I just said above or what I have said before in past videos is to hard for Marvel to do than in regards to their present dilemma than this is what they need to do. First If they will not make 2 or 3 Fantastic Four movies as part of the face 4 & 5movie slot than don't do one before doing Secret Wars in Phase six. Don't just do one Fantastic Four MCU movie with a new cast with a new store that won't give fans enough time to properly invest their love for those characters before they appear in a big time movie like Secret Wars. Instead just use the characters from the good Fox Fantastic Four Movies 1 & 2 that came out in 2005 & 2007 because we all ready have seen those cast of characters portraying the Fantastic Four twice & have had time to enjoy seeing those versions of those characters twice on the big screen. That can be done the same way that NO Way home brought back the 2 other Spider-Man from the other 2 different versions of the Sony Spider-Man franchises back to team up with the MCU Spider-Man & what they sort have done with the Sony Version of Venom. They should also do that with the Fox X-Men Characters than for phase 7 If the MCU still wants to do the Mutant sago for that faze to finally introduce the X-Men into the MCU they can also introduce the Fantastic Four around that time as well. IN addition they can also do the Young Avengers story line for the phase 7 slot for that time as well so they don't half to rush doing shows like that before doing Kang Dynasty & Secret Wars. So for phase six they will only due 3 or 2 movies for that slot & nothing else. No other movies & no Disney plus marvel shows. Just do a few movies for the phase 6 panel slot like Avengers Kang Dynasty & Secret Wars ding only one secret wars movie or doing It in parts like parts 1 & 2 . So this is what more people on U-Tub needs to talk more of instead of just saying hateful things. People are already saying so much hate about other non movie related stuff theirs no reason that we should say nothing but hate for things that people should only say non hate things about like talking about our favorite movies & shows. Don't speak hate only say nice things about certain movie/TV franchises like Marvel, DC, Power Rangers & Star Wars that we all love watching. Just say hate say nice things. Or If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Spread love not hate
I think this video review is just fine without the reaction clips. You're engaging enough without them. I know it's the trend with everyone else using them "oh I said something, uh... Where's the relevant clip from The Office to drive the point home?" but it's gotten old, and I think you'd be fine without it.
