Or should I say, you were there each time she was just passed along to be a 'token'. Your amazing insights must be put to greater use, for all to benefit from in these dark and desperate times. Not to rain on anyone's parade here, but LTJG Swegel IS NOT a fighter pilot as the headline above incorrectly states. She graduated from advanced jet training at VT-21 and has been designated a naval aviator. She will be sent to transition training (also known as the "RAG" in the Navy) presumably to learn to fly a fighter/attack aircraft. If she successfully completes this training, she will then be considered a fighter pilot in the Navy. Yet again, the media has it wrong, and an unsuspecting public will buy the story that "she's a fighter pilot" absent the facts and the truth. Not surprising, given the tiny percentage of the population that has served in the military and who know better. At least the banner above the title of this post has it more correctly, describing her as a "tactical jet pilot". She is not a fighter pilot, not yet anyway. Message to the media and to RUclips posters: Stop trying to sell whatever social narrative you're peddling. The story is compelling enough without your misinformation. Let the facts stand for themselves, and then let us make up our own minds instead of you trying to make them up for us. If and when she successfully completes her transition training, I'll be the first in line to shake her hand. Me? (not that it makes any difference): O-5, 20 years, 6 month, 12 days in the USN, designated naval aviator in 1980, 36 years airline flying experience, shortly to retire with 23,880 flight hours.

      @Adrian Steele As always, the facts and the truth make some people like Mr. Steele (if that is his real name) uncomfortable. Unable to counter my point with any coherent argument, he resorts to name calling like a child who couldn't get his way. He says that no one "gives a sh*t about the RAG", then goes on to tell us that he was in two RAG squadrons. Huh? Apparently, his agenda is to have people simply "shut up" to keep them from thinking critically. But that's the media narrative today, isn't it? Put your mind on hold and never question the politically correct narrative - even when it's wrong, as it is in this case. "Mr. Steele" seems to be obsessed by my resume', which he mentions twice. The television report above praises her limited resume', yet mine has no bearing on the topic, again highlighting the laughable double standards promoted by the liberal left and the mainstream media (the Today show, in this case). The only reason to mention my background was to establish some credibility on this topic, which "Mr. Steele" seems to lack. Message to "Mr. Steele": Do I think the average person watching this cares about the RAG? Of course they do. Why do you think they're watching this video? You just proved my point.

    • @6828oaklawn
      @6828oaklawn 3 года назад +1

      @Adrian Steele Truly amazing how defensive you are about this topic. I have the courage to stand up to the PC crowd who push their agenda by bending the truth, and you take offense to it? Seriously? And all your other comments attacking those who dare to disagree with you demonstrate that you're on some sort of personal crusade to defend her absent the truth and the facts. So when did you appoint yourself her personal defense attorney? You were an LDO, huh? Is that how you ran your shop in the Navy? Would you allow one of your sailors to do a crappy job rebuilding a component, then distort the truth about what she did to that component after she reinstalled it on an aircraft? Of course not. The truth is the truth. It's too bad that you have such a low opinion of people to insult their intelligence by implying that they don't know the difference. They DO know the difference. If you want a title, EARN IT, be it Chief, Aircrewman, SEAL, Admiral, corpsman or fighter pilot. Nobody gets anything free in the Navy. You don't put on a crow when you're a seaman apprentice. You don't call yourself a Chief when you're an AT1. And you don't call yourself a fighter pilot when you've just been winged. You ought to know the difference because you're "old school". You said that yourself.

    How is this racism and sexism unless tens of thousands of qualified women including black women wanted these spots but were turned down? Black females at 21 million represent 7% of the U.S. population. I bet not even 1% (200,000) apply to become fighter pilots every year.

    Congrats to the first biracia/half black female fighter pilot! 🎉
    As of yet, there are no black parents with a black daughter who has become a fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy. For some reason, the media keeps misquoting this story as "1st black female fighter pilot". She is the daughter of a white woman, there's no need to strip her of that half of her identity just for a storyline, or to rob the future first black woman fighter pilot of her historical moment.

      Kara seemed to have been put in a position to fail in an attempt by the military to prove their inclusivity. The military wanted a favorable public optic at the cost of an unproven pilot’s life. I don’t want to see another pilot die for the same reason. That is my point. Check out the ‘60 minutes double standard’ video for context.

But when you are only chosen due to a skin color or gender all because of a certain law that removes those that are better qualified and replaced by gender or color because they will make a quota, then expect problems. You need to earn your spot just as Ben Carson earned his. Dont expect it because of your race or color.
