That M1070 HET, that's what you want. 8 wheel drive, been through so much shit with one of those, if you get one stuck, you have truly accomplished something because it's about impossible.
Don't buy one of those HET's I'm telling you now you will hate life. The newer models run C18 cat engines. Those models shown run shitty ass Detroit 92 series. My credentials? Sitting in one right now.
Others do builds and don't say stuff like that. It's all about the overhead costs. Motor Trend wants to make this a business, and earn for their investors, others do it for fun and just want to break even/live a regular life.

Well here’s this; I’ve been thinking about buying myself a 6x6 truck for firefighting, however I’m not sure which truck would be best. I’ve been looking a Deuce and a Half, since I don’t need a CDL for where I live. However, I was also looking at an M813 5 Ton.
THE MOST common question Motor Trend gets after its big feature videos is, "where can I buy a vehicle like that?" This short, paid ad answers that question very well, frankly. The anger shown by RUclips commenters about companies having the gall to make a profit is ridiculous. You're watching RUclips, a billion-dollar capitalist megacorp, on your PC/Mac/Android/iOS device made by a billion-dollar capitalist megacorp, while wearing Nikes/Reebok/Adidas, while eating fast food (or any food for that matter). You don't have a single point of ground from which to argue. We all consume from companies that make a profit. The point is, Fred works. We're entertained. He should get paid. This is how he gets paid. There is not a single reason Motor Trend shouldn't be making these ad videos. You're mad? No problem. You're not the target market. I'm clicking the link and looking for a sweet, used Army truck.
Well said. It gets old seeing a bunch of self entitled 12 year olds acting like everyone should kiss their ass and do everything the way they want it done for free on the internet as well as in real life. When these crybabies grow up they will find out that there is two things that make the world go around, money and whole lot of hard work... if you don't have one you will have to do the other...
Wow...interesting for you to defend Motor Trend and Fred, and not denounce FOR ONE SECOND that not ONE WORD was mentioned on how you could 'buy direct from DRMO, just like govplanet does'....by simply applying for a DRMO bidder number! Also interesting how you didn't condemn the fact that most of the DRMO auctions are for 1/10th the price that the 'big retailers' (like govplanet) pay DRMO...and none of that markup was mentioned. I mean...if I tell you that you can buy something at 'mom and pops' downtown, you're going to instantly know you can 'get it cheaper online' or 'at wallie world'...but few realize, instead of paying 1000% markup to govplanet for these vehicles, they can simply get a DRMO bidder number and BUY DIRECT from DRMO, bidding as an equal AGAINST govplanet, instead of becoming a customer OF govplanet, and paying an extra $8,000 to $10,000 to them for that 5-ton truck they want! That you didn't know this, shows that you either have NO CLUE what you're talking about, or are part of the 'don't want you to know' crowd benefitting from it. Which one is it?
My cousin bought a Humvee. Had 17,000 miles on it, was in MINT condition, never saw combat. It had no doors, no roof. It was used at a USA Based base to transport troops around. The 6.5L is completely gutless. But in 4-low it automatically locks the front and rear diffs, and it feels absolutely unstoppable, like no obstacle will prevent it from moving. You can literal idle out of certain situations that you have to gun it to get out of in 4 hi. In 4 low you really have to lean on the brakes to get it to stop. You can't gently hold it or else the torque and gearing will just keep pulling through them.
Bought my M998 HMMWV 4 door 6.5L V8 diesel engine for $8100.00 on GovPlanet. It's in perfect condition. And yes there is ways to get them registered for an on road title in certain states. The problem is that there is no vin number. You can get vin numbers for them by going through a custom or homemade title. There's other ways to get titles too.
Salty Steel 6.5 diesel? I thought the 998's only had 6.2s in them. Could be wrong. Guess the deciding factor would be if it is turbo or not. Could be swapped from an m1123 i guess.
possible but unlikely, I'm pretty sure most 998s have been converted to 1097s by now but they came standard with 6.2Ls but the only way to tell is to look at the back of the engine at the oil pump/tach drive-if the mounting bolt is on the left thats a 6.2, if its on the right you have a 6.5
You hit the nail right on the head brother. If you are blessed enough to own one of the humbees the trick is too find a low mileage/low maintenance one and that alone is hard to come by. 😯

I use to jump my humvee as an OC when i was stationed in Fort Irwin Barstow CA? Yeah somebody bought my old beat up humvee.
1970HondaCL100 They have to do sponsored episodes on RUclips to stay afloat. These shows aren't cheap to make and RUclips's only gonna give them a dollar and a pat on the back.
It is important to note that ALL surplus humvees are title-voided to be OHV ONLY. You cannot re-register them as a road vehicle no matter how hard you try, so sorry if you want a cheap pickup truck.
Nope, you can go check on govplanet right now. Every single humvee you will find will have a little note on the right hand side in the description something along the lines of: "This vehicle is for Off-Highway use ONLY." Disappointing, I know.
Yes but it's an easy process getting it reregistered via your home state. Go on youtube and watch a few videos on the topic, I've seen multiple videos of people doing exactly what you are claiming is impossible.
I could get one legal if I weren't broke by buying parts and assembling the parts into a truck but just buying one your probably right. Just to be clear an assembled vehicle would not be a Humvee anymore but it would be legal and cool.
They are shitty. You can build a cheaper, more powerful, more capable, and more fuel efficient vehicle with standard parts. And you'll have to find a place to order all the parts you need for them. Most of that stuff you can't buy at Autozone besides fluids and bulbs.
i work on military vehicles daily. every time one comes into the shop for something new you are cussing the manufactorer for why tf they designed something that way
A couple things about military surplus vehicles. They are "salvage sale" to the public, after all other government agencies get their shot at them. To "salvage" a vehicle, it must meet their standard for age/miles/value. Age can be covered with the de-activation of a base or units, or, if the budget actually afforded to purchase ten percent of a fleet in the past two years, OR, some vehicle is just in excess of the needs, like the Humvee... miles/value is based upon the mechanical shape, such as 'will it cost more than 35% of replacement value to fix it?'. Most agencies really cannot absorb all the surplus, plus, don't have added funding for all the repairs "needed' per the T.O. So, when 2,000 of the same type vehicle appear in the Gov. Sales lot, most will be there for you to choose from. Repair parts and work are measured in the costs of parts, and man hours the military must expend to bring the item back to operational condition per the Tech. Order. An M35A2 from 1998, needing tires, an oil change (5 gallons of oil), and an annual ( all filters, a full brake job, 5 gallons of Anti-freeze, several quarts of lubricants, and other greases), might just need to be 'salvaged'... You will put in your own labor to do the required tasks... "Sweat Equity" is your own investment... Please get the proper Technical Order, either from the Government Printing Office, or, internet sellers.
never been a fan of the Humvee but do some fender trimming, bigger tires, boat side chop, winch front and back, and update the snorkel kit so tube sock has a swimming buddy. Then again swap the engine for some LS power, or Cummins power plant. Can't forget a decent cage or even an exo-skeleton conversion.
What we don't tell you is as soon as you need parts be ready to wait a few months I have four Hummers sitting in my yard needing water pumps it took me 8 months just to get one. Good luck with that.

the humvees we have, have like 1000 miles on them and are 2009's and are rusted pos's and are turning into dust because we drive them through salt water.
ours are the up-armoured versions which are steel doors which are heavy af. also all of the working parts are not aluminum. if the body was rusted then it really wouldnt matter right. if i could send you pictures i would
We like to put a duramax swap and a Allison in these hmmwv ‘s and then it’s a great vehicle with a modern power train with all the classic military looks and features. Best of both worlds. Otherwise the cheaper option is to go with the stock humvee, which is the perfect vehicle for your teenage kid driver...it’s slow, hard to roll, and seats are so far away from each other it’s “difficult” to hold hands with anybody.
I have a bid on a truck right now. It's the 1st time that I am using gub planet and 1st time purchasing a vehicle on there. You're it what are some things that I need to look out for bit's doubtful because I don't want to buy something that doesn't run?
I saw a new looked like deuce and a half hybrid with a gigantic pick up bed and liner, it was yellow and magnificent. 4wd no logos labels, immaculate. Want information on what was, perfect no rust fresh paint, leather seats. Have no idea where who made was in Tampa area off beach at VFW, Indian rocks area Florida gulf coast.
Hey yall i was wondering where the cideo is of buying the lmtv and taking it offroad i goind a link to it online but it says the video is private...? I would love to watch it again if you guys could make it public again or tell me where i can watch it at itd be much appreciated thank you
When one of my cousins got into the army in '91, the greek goverment demilitarized all the old vehicles used for long time and sent 'em via rail roads to scrapyards across the country because it was too difficult to maintain an old military vehicle and keep it in service and have imported new ones. Only few military K5 Blazers survived and have not been crushed and because we don't have any american cars and trucks excistin' on the roads here in greece because of their engines, those trucks have been sittin' unsaled, like some others
Buy it, then can't register it to drive on the street , so it rots away in your backyard. At least in Tennessee you have to be ex-military to register it.
Not sure but they just passed a law in Louisiana making it legal to register military humvees for road use just in time waiting for my approval to pick mine up. Oh happy days!
Rob P lol I'm not leaving. I want the government to be accountable for the 100k dollars I give them every year. Asking me to repurchase shit that I didn't even want them to buy in the first place is what triggers me.

Can someone explain to me why they made 16.5" wheels for the Humwees, and not just more common 16" or 17"? I know what the wheels are like, I don't need a lecture on that, I'm just missing if there is some point to specifically use 16.5".
I wanna buy a few of these as toys so bad. I want a 6x6 and or 10x10 massive trucks and build a custom offroad vechicle. Military offroad capability and civilian luxury and specs
My big question is do I need a cdl to drive an lmtv I'm wanting to get one but I'm curious I've heard of people being able to drive a hemtt military truck without a cdl so does that mean I can do the same with the lmtv I'm getting it as a personal vehicle but mainly driving it on the weekends I definitely need to know I live in Florida so does it depend on State law or is it the same everywhere I'd love to know soon
My old boss bought 3 hum v and tried to sell them , but none sold. Nobody can get them tagged by dmv....You can haul them on a trailer to go off road, but that is it.
Military vehicles are the most baffling thing. It is very common to see a 20+ year old military truck that is beat to all hell, and you check the odometer and it has 2,433 miles on it or something ridiculously low.
Miles in developing countries count 10:1 against US miles, even offroad. Miles in combat count 100:1. Most military engines fail on hours rather than miles.
I need a Tank Hauler... To, uh haul things. Yes, that.
😳😳😳

That M1070 HET, that's what you want. 8 wheel drive, been through so much shit with one of those, if you get one stuck, you have truly accomplished something because it's about impossible.

They have to make a profit on the vehicles they're auctioning off. Are you aware you can also get government used typewriters, computers, desks, furniture etc.?
mitmaks Yeah but the thing is, they are probably selling the ones that have been retired from active duty or are no longer needed or used.

Well you don't HAVE to buy one do you? go get a prius
Sounds about right
Yeah, the reason why military humvees are in rough condition is because it's immature kids having fun versus maybe THEY GET SHOT AT.
No trust me he's more than likely correct, either having fun or lack of paying attention to detail
Stop talking. The majority of the abuse these things get are from privates driving them.

Barstow?... Mind blown! You guys are so close.
"unimogs in Guam" fuxk yeah I live on Guam
I need that OSHKOSH
I saw a new looked like deuce and a half hybrid with a gigantic pick up bed and liner, it was yellow and magnificent. 4wd no logos labels, immaculate. Want information on what was, perfect no rust fresh paint, leather seats. Have no idea where who made was in Tampa area off beach at VFW, Indian rocks area Florida gulf coast.
LMTV probably
there was a pinball machine on there 🤣
Hey yall i was wondering where the cideo is of buying the lmtv and taking it offroad i goind a link to it online but it says the video is private...? I would love to watch it again if you guys could make it public again or tell me where i can watch it at itd be much appreciated thank you
When one of my cousins got into the army in '91, the greek goverment demilitarized all the old vehicles used for long time and sent 'em via rail roads to scrapyards across the country because it was too difficult to maintain an old military vehicle and keep it in service and have imported new ones. Only few military K5 Blazers survived and have not been crushed and because we don't have any american cars and trucks excistin' on the roads here in greece because of their engines, those trucks have been sittin' unsaled, like some others
I may need one of those eventually.
I want that GMC in the back
Great information, thanks.
Buy it, then can't register it to drive on the street , so it rots away in your backyard. At least in Tennessee you have to be ex-military to register it.
Dylan Cox, I wonder what Oklahoma would say.
Not sure but they just passed a law in Louisiana making it legal to register military humvees for road use just in time waiting for my approval to pick mine up. Oh happy days!
My taxes paid for these and now you're asking me to buy it again? Do I look that stupid?
smcic I never thought of that
Rob P lol I'm not leaving. I want the government to be accountable for the 100k dollars I give them every year. Asking me to repurchase shit that I didn't even want them to buy in the first place is what triggers me.
um. yes.
Nope your taxes paid for your protection and freedom of speech
Great Video! Apologies for the intrusion, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Tarbbatigan Vintage Sales Tip (google it)? It is a good one of a kind product for finding government and police auctions for cars trucks and SUVs without the headache. Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 got great success with it.
Who doesn't need a duce-and-a-half? Hell, with my bowels I'd be happy with half a duce
i was expecting Fred to go crazy and pick that bigass tank hauler and offroad the crap out of it ...
"You're not gonna get one with a machine gun on top..."
*the fuck I can't*
The winch on the HTTT is SO big
Can someone explain to me why they made 16.5" wheels for the Humwees, and not just more common 16" or 17"? I know what the wheels are like, I don't need a lecture on that, I'm just missing if there is some point to specifically use 16.5".
I once saw an apache getting parted out in Washington. If i only had a bit of pocket change lol
Ok, so I see the whole concern about titling Humvees. However, is that also the case for a Deuce and a half? Or any of the other trucks?
Do they come with titles
Fred, you should buy a Deuce and a half, bob it or not, and put BIGGER tires on it and take it to Johnson Valley and keep it
You can buy cut up weapons and machine guns if you know where to look.
Don't want to bid though. Are there sites where you can buy outright?
What? I can't buy a machine gun to go with my Humvee? I though this was MURRICA.
4991Ares you need to buy it your own
In Indiana it’s legal to have a mounted .50 cal machine gun mounted on your vehicle
ShadowX Gaming Good luck finding and affording one.
Just use the gun show loophole or buy one over the internet!
Easy peazy!
;)
*insert whiny libtard whining about shootings*
How do you buy parts for this army trucks
I wanna buy a few of these as toys so bad. I want a 6x6 and or 10x10 massive trucks and build a custom offroad vechicle. Military offroad capability and civilian luxury and specs
Are humvs street legal?
Can you buy and ship these to Canada?
My big question is do I need a cdl to drive an lmtv I'm wanting to get one but I'm curious I've heard of people being able to drive a hemtt military truck without a cdl so does that mean I can do the same with the lmtv I'm getting it as a personal vehicle but mainly driving it on the weekends I definitely need to know I live in Florida so does it depend on State law or is it the same everywhere I'd love to know soon
Note that most government vehicles are exempt for hour and mileage accuracy.
My old boss bought 3 hum v and tried to sell them , but none sold. Nobody can get them tagged by dmv....You can haul them on a trailer to go off road, but that is it.
Hey I need one with the machine gun on top
This wasn't a "bonus episode" it was an advertisement.
Go sign up for a free trial so you can watch more infomercials.
So how many trucks you have
well i wish i was a young kid again. its not too often i come across people much older than me
What's the big truck in the background? i need one for the upcoming zombie apocalypse.
M1070 HET
Thank You
Of all the available vehicles in there if I had the money then I would buy a HET with its trailer.
hello Sir, my name is maku. I will like to talk to you personally. how do i do that?
My uncle has a deuce and a half. He also has managed to get it stuck a few times
big trucks get stuck better...
do they import them to canada? im on the page & all i see if U.S.A
Do they ship to Europe?
I wonder if they ship to Philippines...
i would like to buy an m35 2 1/2 tons.
Is govplanet same as govliquidation?
Do you have to have a CDL to drive a 6×6 army truck
Not if you are in the Army. You might enlist. Oh that would require....
Gotta get me a Humvee one day. I've always loved that style of vehicle
good plug
Demilitarised humvee, do they remove all the armor or something?
Demilitarized means they only remove the weapons from the vehicle, like the machine gun. The armor remains untouched.
@@user-uv1pi4ew7f The armor gets removed
Didn't he already do a video about this?
