Every few years, we get games like The Order: 1886 that push graphical fidelity but unfortunately provide little substance. But this game has something special I think in its setting. Being a Knight of Arthur's Roundtable, a long-established medieval order that fights against mythological and supernatural terrors, during the Industrial Revolution when we were discovering so much about the world is so ripe for worldbuilding and storytelling that it hurts the IP has been left to die. Of all the slop we get, I'd take a reimagining for this IP any day.
Exactly, it's such a fascinating setting with so many cool ideas and mythologies blended together that you could do anything with it; comics, an TV series, a movie, different genre of game, whatever your fancy. It deserves better than dying with this game.
The Order 1886 sits well with games like Ryse Son of Rome & The Callisto Protocol imo.. graphically a beast with a few gameplay shortcomings and short play times.. still enjoy them all though
actually liked this game, until the end when i found out it doesn't have a proper ending and ends with a cliffhanger opening up to a sequal we never got
I played this game five months ago for the first time. It definitely has its problems, but I have to say the main story is surprisingly interesting. The weapons are pretty cool too. I do wish we fought more fantasy creatures because this game has you fight humans way too much. For example why couldn’t we fight vampires or have a Jack the Ripper final boss? It does bum me out this game has a huge cliffhanger in the end. I could definitely see this being a decent trilogy
I think the story wasted too much time to show how we ended up branded as a traitor. Take dishonored for contrast same story plot pretty straightforward. They did it in 7-8 minutes. It didn't help that after the creature plot reveal story didn't really go anywhere.
@@Alpacalama They can be but the warehouse scene revealed that there was enough to start a pandemic. We could have fought some vampires in that warehouse(before we burned it down). Missed opportunity there.
That's why we act like clowns when we go abroad... we'll happily burn in the heat whilst drinking massive amounts of lager all day every day... but can you blame us?... even our summer's can be perpetual gloom.. the only thing worse than the fuckin weather is the food😂
Literally think that besides how little gameplay moments there was that this was one of the coolest world concepts ive seen in a very very long time. It definitely sucks that its only about 8 hours at most to go through. Feels like a demo more than anything
The only memory I have of playing this game is the time I waggled a model ship around in my hand, closely examining its model shipness. I was waggling that ship for a good long while.
For a 2015 game, the graphics, the animations and attention to detail are spot on. It's a shame this game had so much potential then end up being too much QTE and cutscenes plus lame boss fights.
When you said more cutscenes than gameplay, I didn't expect THIS. I thought it would be like that one game with the magic girl who saves the cat instead of the momey from the fire that I don't even remember the title of, but that had actual gameplay mechanics mostly 😂

I bought it for $5 on a sale and that was a good value for money. Hella interactive movie, really ahead of its time. Tho how and why does it still look insanely good compared to current games. Not bad for its 2013 hardware.
They should have just made an animated movie instead of a "game". the cutscenes look great, the story is good, and there is already practically no gameplay to speak of.
Only reason I remember this game was because of the part where you had to shoot the werewolf or it’d kill the chick…and oh god did I have a field day watching her get mauled 🤣
I remember being interested in this game when I saw it in a gaming magazine in middle school. I thought it was gonna be a gothic steampunk co-op shooter, so I was devastated to find out it was a singleplayer cutscene "game" by somebody who got into game development for the same reason as David Cage. That being he couldn't hack it in movies so he ran to games where it would be easier for him.
The concept for the world of a modern knights of the round table hunting supernatural creatures during a more advanced industrial revolution is so cool, but the game really lacked anything that showed off how cool the concept really was.
I was honestly hoping that we would have got an open world type game as a sequel. Being able to choose your class or something and different weapons and fighting other monsters as well.
Should've been a horror game tbh. It has that Resident Evil third person tank control, nice setting with vampires and shit, victorian era? *Chef kiss* Seems like they're already using real life actors(?) for the faces.
This game is basically just a shooter equivalent of Until Dawn. I think it’s a good idea to do a cinematic play through with third person shooter moments. Would like to see more like it
1886? Oh yeah, I think this was it. Let’s see... it's a double McRib with no ribs, a side of fries, but only the burnt ones, a cup of pickles, 3 Filet-O-Fish patties stacked like a sandwich, no bun, a McFlurry with extra ice, hold the toppings and ice cream just oreos, a single chicken nugget with exactly 14 sesame seeds on top, two large Sprites-one with ice, one with just ice, and an apple pie, but microwaved for exactly 42 seconds and a McChicken without chicken, just lettuce and mayonnaise in a burger wrapper put in a big mac box.
I remember this being one of the games that got me to buy the Ps4 a bit after its release. Then once I actually got the Ps4, had access to the two games I actually wanted most (Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne) I completely forgot about this one, never even remembered to buy this, it was almost completely erased from my memory except for faint memories of watching RUclips gameplays of it, and now all of a sudden this video came out and I was reminded of this thing.
i think about this game regularly actually, i find myself constantly comparing other games to it replayability wise. its the low end of the spectrum of course, but genuinely has a fantastic story. i couldnt actually remember ANY of the gameplay. dug it up the other day out of my old collection and didnt even try to boot it up, just laughed.
I remember the hype about this game, it was a 9/10 out of 10 in early reviews. Then an 8. Then 6. Then 4. Then it was totally forgotten. Just like the other PS4/Xobx One launch titles, people mostly remember only about Forza 5 (and even that has a mixed reputation).
I remember being so excited for this game. The weapons were cool and the detail was insane to me at the time. Then I saw the walkthroughs online, I was hyped to see what I'd be getting myself into. I watched so many cutscenes and saw no gunplay during that walkthrough before I got bored n left.
I love "The Order: 1886" because its not even the best hunting Vampires and Werewolves in Steampunk London game exclusively on PS4 because "Bloodborne" released literally 1 month later.

It's been so long since I've played this but I genuinely loved this game and think about it and its story often enough. It is definitely flawed and basically an interactive movie but I had a lot of fun with it all.
I just finished this game right now. I have slept on it for quite a while until I found it at a retro gaming shop for $10. ngl, I liked it, the opening sequence reeled me in. I enjoyed it a lot, but honestly, never thought I'd play a game like this and finish it the same day. and it sucks that the developers of this IP went defunct this year which means we're probably never gonna get the sequel.
I remember almost buying this for my ps4 for like $8 at a GameStop when I was 17 and decided not to because I didn’t hear a SINGLE thing in marketing about it. I may know why now lmao
I bought this game many year's ago at Target for 10$ I wish it didn't end when it did because it got really good towards the end. I wish it got a sequel or something.
I truly dont understand the hate for this game. It must be coming from the large gaming audience that go brain rot from COD. This game is good and worth playing. Certainly not for $60 even on release day but this game is a treat to play for people that like steampunk / fantasy monsters.
I think this project could have gone both ways. It could have been a cool film series and a spectacular game series. Honestly it could still be both. Just might require them to reopen the box and improve gameplay and maybe even look into tv show or movie format.
Just got the platinum for this game a couple of weeks ago! Wasn't bad, imo in terms of pacing and gameplay. Although I wish there was a setting for the aspect ratio.
