The amount of lore behind this movie is absolutely insane. I mean every single tiny detail from the fauna to the biology of different species was discussed, written down and developed. I know there are certain fan-made documentaries on RUclips that go over how in-depth the whole universe is which was just for a singular movie at the time - until they confirmed around four more to come in the future.
I might have to give those RUclips fan-made things a look mate as I really liked this movie. Can not believe it has taken so long to make another one! I bet the the post production has taken the most time
I’m so glad you watched the Director’s Cut. I think that opening sequence on Earth is so important for forming an emotional connection to Jake. I felt so much more invested in this cut than in the theatrical release.
This is my all time favourite movie, I'll never stop loving it! Man, your reaction was the best I've seen, it was obvious that you were captured by the story and the world! Great that you saw the extended version, it has so much extra lore! :-)
It was an impressive 3D cinematic experience, but for me, a little bit hard to focus at times during very busy scenes, especially the scene where he is chased by that vicious animal and ultimately lands at the bottom of that waterfall.
I saw this with my friend when it first came out. The 3D blew me away. Heck, the entire film blew me away! So much so we went to see it again lol Can't wait to see the sequels, though the wait is killing me!
Hey! Yeah, it was such a great movie and I bet you and your friend had so much fun watching it in 3D...very jealous! I will be watching the new ones in IMAX when they finally arrive lol
From what I've heard in interviews, the story and background of Avatar is one Cameron has been working with, on and off the back burner, since film school. It's his dream project, which is why he's so very particular about every detail. The single biggest problem in his sequels has been his interest in oceanography and the need to do motion capture at the waterline, partially above and below the water. His ideas required the aquatic environment and he needed time to develop the technology required for shooting natively in IMAX 3D in all sorts of aquatic and other environments. Unheard of since the Lord of the Rings, Cameron has gotten funding for developing all four sequels nearly simultaneously. Multi-movie deals of that magnitude almost never happen, and that he's maintained the funding to include more than a decade's research and development seems highly impressive. His name is apparently golden to bank on in Hollywood terms.
So cool that you watched the extended version for collectors. It's the longest and the best version of the movie. The opening scenes on Earth were never shown in theatres, and some other scenes with Dr. Grace and in the forest, the extended love scene, etc were only seen in theaters for the re-released extended version for cinemas one year later.
Thank you for a great genuine reaction to Avatar. I saw Avatar when it first came out in IMAX 3D, my first experience of watching any film in 3D and it was absolutely stunning and brilliant. I ended watching it again and again in IMAX 3D. I did also watch the special extended edition as well in IMAX 3D. When I eventually got round to purchasing a 3D TV, then Avatar was one of the first 3D blu-rays that I bought and it's a stunning transfer, helped because the live action scenes were filmed using native 3D cameras. This meant at the time the 3D of Avatar looked far more natural than other 3D films released afterwards that added 3D in post production. Although there's a notable example of a post production 3D film "Pacific Rim" where considerable time and effort was taken to get the best possible outcome. But in the vast majority of cases from that time you could distinguish between a film that used native 3D cameras and one where post production 3D was employed. This last weekend for the first time for months IMAX 3D was back, so I had got a ticket to watch "Doctor Strange into the Multiverse of Madness", but before the main feature they showed the teaser trailer for the sequel: Avatar: The Way of Water and in IMAX 3D it was crazy good. I did notice that Doctor Strange is only going to be shown in IMAX 3D for a very limited period, at the very most you might only have to this weekend to it in IMAX 3D and therefore the teaser trailer in IMAX 3D as well. I would hope that prior to the theatrical request of the sequel that the original will return to cinemas, maybe even in IMAX 3D.
They're re-releasing this in theaters before the sequel drops so people who haven't seen it in theaters can. I saw it when i was 11 and its an experience you wont forget. Funny to think its been 13 years, thats over half my life, waiting for this sequel.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. The story, the visuals- everything. There’s a lot of mixed opinions about it but I really love it. There has been a planned sequel and franchise being made that was supposed to come out years ago but it’s been delayed due to Cameron wanting to top this film and also to have the right technologies to carry out his vision. Many people lost hope that a sequel would ever come out, but, finally, I think we have a concrete date for this December so I’m excited for that big time.
I watched it, when I was going to the primary school. And already then I was fascinated by it. But I didn't understand, what is the idea of the movie. And just now, when I grew up, I watch it again and now I see the whole topic Thank you for reacting to Avatar
Subscribed after watching your reaction. This movie has so much depth to it, it is so important and relevant, especially nowadays. Can't wait for second one.
The school scene also gives more depth to Neytiris reaction when Jake started slapping the Atokirina (flying jellyfish thingies). The way she says „Atokirina“ for the first time is like she expected him to know what that meant and wanted to remind him. Probably because Avatars were taught such things back when the school was open and when she used to spend time there.
I remember watching this in movie theaters for the first time with my parents in 3D first 3D film I ever watched and I can't wait for December because me and my long distance girlfriend are hoping to watch it together since we both love it
i’m so so glad you enjoyed this movie! it’s one of my favorites of all time to be honest. a lot of people found their love of film through star wars or lord of the rings but it was avatar that took me there. little 11 year old me was completely mind blown and certain scenes still give me chills to this day. your commentary was pretty hilarious at times and it was a pleasure to watch how invested you were. you’ve definitely got a new subscriber! hope to see you in the theaters for avatar 2 in december! (metaphorically of course haha)
THIS IS LITERALLY ONE THE BEST REACTION VIDEOS I'VE EVER WATCHED. The excitement in your eyes reminds me of the younger version of myself when I first watched it. I love how you became so immersed because of how good it is. What a very genuine reaction from you. Thank you for keeping it real. I'm definitely subscribing and gotta binge watch your other reaction videos now!! 💖
Yeah pretty much the same thing happened with the second film. Cameron wrote this movie in 1994 and the technology wasn't up to par with his vision and put it off until it was which is why it was so groundbreaking because he revolutionized cgi and 3D. With the second movie it kept getting pushed back because of that same reason. I believe mostly with filming the motion capture underwater. But that just makes me very hopeful that the second movie will also be amazing because of the new groundbreaking technology used. It's also rumored it's going to be in 3d without glasses in some theaters so that's also crazy
Enjoyed your reaction, Kev, James Cameron's Avatar is in some ways original, but in other ways, the storyline has been covered before, in John Boorman's The Emerald Forest. This is a Sci fi version of that movie, the "Invisible People", became "the Navi People". Love Sigourney Weaver in this as Grace, ascerbic, and dry as hell wit, but all the actors were well cast. "EYWA HAS HEARD YOU, JAKE SULLY!"
Thanks Steve, really appreciate that mate. Yeah they nailed it with Weaver, played a great part. Really interested how they are going to go with part 2/3/4, will be great either way!
There are tons of films where a 'civilized' man finds peace with 'savages'. Lawrence of Arabia, A Man Called Horse (and sequels), Farewell to the King, The Man Who Would be King, The Last Samurai, and the over referenced Dances With Wolves (which isn't as close to this film as people seem to think). Cameron himself said the film was inspired by the film and book, At Play in the Fields of the Lord and the similarities are clear (in that story a missionary is asked by a mining company to convince an Amazonian tribe to move so they can mine their land). It's just a common theme that's been around for years (Edgar Rice Burroughs used it a lot). I tend to bristle at people who harp on it being 'unoriginal' because of a basic theme it shares with other films. Is Forbidden Planet unoriginal because it's based on Shakespeare's The Tempest? Is Outland unoriginal because it's based on High Noon? Are The Magnificent Seven and A Fistful of Dollars unoriginal because they're based on Kurosawa samurai film? Avatar took a common theme and did something extraordinary with it. That's what counts
A fun fact about the movie - originally the music was supposed to be entirely a sort of combination of a lot of tribal-type music, but by the time it was finished nearly every song changed into something closer to a traditional Hollywood score, except for the one that plays at the Tree of Souls.
This movie is so beautifully done. The CGI is flawless with the Na'vi and the entire environment on Pandora. Some of my favorite sequences involve the Ikran, Toruk and the Tree Of Souls.
Kevin Feige: “Avengers Endgame is the highest grossing film of all time!” James Cameron: “Nuh uh Avatar is!” Disney: “Doesn’t matter to me, I just count the box office gross $$$”
The literal world building here is insane. And the cgi character animation is still the best I've seen, especially Neytiri. Zoe Saldana is such an emotional expressive actress which was captured perfectly by the mocap and cgi artists. Seeing this on the big screen in 3D was quite an experience... Incredibly immersive. Part of the reason it became the biggest movie ever was the amount of repeat viewings to get that feeling of immersion. Not my favourite Cameron film but I can't deny it does work and was quite the cinematic experience.
Noticed that you had some deleted scenes in the version you watched, such as the old school scene and the beginning where it shows earth. Pretty cool 😎, love this movie so much and can't wait for the sequel in December!!
Awesome reaction! You seem like a genuinely great guy. I was lucky enough to see this in theaters when it came out while I was 9, and it just absolutely blew my mind! I’d never seen anything like it, and haven’t since. And with how long it’s been I just figured they would never make another one, so to hear that they’re finally making a second one this year is just insanely exciting!
Another amazing reaction and video Kev! I was lucky enough to see this movie when it came out in theaters in 3D imax, it was incredible for my smooth 10 year old brain. I would also like to recommend a different avatar lol, the Avatar the last air bender series is a fantastic journey, maybe something you could check out in the future. Regardless good luck and keep up the great work!
Thank you kev, its and incredible movie and thanks for watching it cause it is just one of the greatest standalone films (saying standalone film, cause no other sequel till 2022-23) :)
Thank for this great reaction. I haven't been able to watch this movie in cinemas, only on 3D Bluray. I hope they show it again when Avatar 2 comes out in December.
Hope you can go see the second movie! It’s incredible. I loved your reaction, it’s always nice to watch people who have an appreciation for these things. I always cry watching Avatar. It becomes even more emotional in the way of water. As for your question, James Cameron got inspired from a dream he had at 19 years old! He woke up and started sketching, imagining what the world would look like. He wrote the first script but it was out on the shelf purely due to the fact that they did not have the proper technology to film it. They ended up CREATING technology for it, which is mind blowing. It still holds up 13 years later. James has already wrote the scripts up to 5 movies! They already filmed the third movie and started filming for the fourth. Currently they just have to add CGI and see how the 2nd movie does. It has already passed 1.2 billion so I’d say it’s doing pretty well. Avatar 1 is the highest grossing movie of all time, I don’t doubt the second movie will catch up to it.
I am so glad you watched this. I’ve been checking in with you to see what’s been going on and it’s been cartoons. I’ve been waiting for you to come back to movies and this was the perfect one to watch. You had such great reactions! It was fun watching you again!
i enjoyed your reaction so much! my favorite parts of the movie are each Neytiri scene and you caught every single one of them. she is the heart of the movie.
I really like how the plot point of the human/navi'i avatar mirrors the filming technology of the human/digital avatars with the actors wearing motion capture suits and having full body digital make-up. It really makes the plot easy to suspend disbelief for. I entirely forgot the mocap aspect and only saw people in costume, avatars as in the movie. An absolutely immersive artistic consceit.
I absolutely love this movie saw it as a kid and found it kinda boring, but now as an adult, i really do appreciate it, the CGI and the small details that really bring this movie to life. and even more so that it was filmed in my "own" back yard (New Zealand, Wetas' Wellington Studio) makes it even more special
excellent excellent excellent that you saw the Extended version!!! It's only 30 more minutes of film but it explains many things that the original version is left out
This movie was made to be experienced in 3-D watching it in 2-D greatly diminishes how awesome this movie is. In 3-D you are on Pandora the foliage comes alive around you and the creatures feel alive and right beside your seat, in 2-D its just another movie going experience. If you have not seen it in 3-D you have not seen it at all.
The 3D in this movie and in Tron Legacy is insane. Even to this day it's on par with current tech used in huge AAA movies we curently have (Avengers etc). Can't wait for the 2nd movie as well as the game. The world, lore, every bit of details is so good. The story is ok but man the world is so beautiful.
I have loved this movie. I hope you will react to others James Cameron movies. The Abyss is great, Titanic too. An other great movie you must react too is Dances with wolves with Kevin Costner. You will love too.
Your reaction was so good, wow! I love this movie deeply and getting to reexperience it through your eyes was amazing. I enjoyed it so much and I love your accent. Can't wait to watch other reactions from you! I definitely subscribed 😊
I saw this in theaters. it was the first 3D movie I'd experienced. I walked out of the theaters feeling like I was stepping out of a spaceship, returning to earth. Not sure if it was the visuals or the 3D...but I felt like I had taken a trip to Pandora. I remember sitting in the car for about 10 minutes, decompressing and trying to return to "reality"
Brought to you by Director James Cameron starring Sam Worthington as in this movie about a paraplegic who had a twin brother who died so takes his place. On a moon in the ingingeningous population are known as the navi
I love this movie. I've seen a lot of ppl roll their eyes at it, but I don't get it. People say it's an allegory for what happened to Native Americans. I just look at the outside of it, no matter what it's underlay might be, and I think it's amazing.
A pretty decent film. Story’s a bit underwhelming in my view but I was a fan of the world building and the mythology. Am curious about where Cameron will take the series next (and whether we really need *4* sequels when we haven’t gotten one yet) If you want a recommendation for a very similar story I highly recommend “Princess Mononoke” (and other Hayao Miyazaki movies) if you’ve never seen it. It’s a similar man vs nature conflict but in a fantasy setting and the antagonists have a little bit more shades of grey to them then the humans here
Princess Mononoke? I will deffo check it out mate, sounds like my type of thing! I am really curious where they will go from here! I'm sure it will be exciting lol
Princess Mononoke 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I saw Avatar twice and this was a HUGE movie when it came out…very curious to see what the sequel will bring. Great reaction as always Kev!
The story is basically representing Pocahontas and the diamond mining in Africa, but taking place in space on another planet. These are human true stories set in a way more people would except it.
I had the awesome pleasure of seeing this in 3D on a big screen when it first came out...........it was the most amazing experience and incredible thing I'd ever seen......it's been ages since then, so I definitely cannot wait to see the sequel or sequels......if you enjoy this(and I think you do) , do yourself a big favour and go see the sequels in the cinema in 3D, how Cameron meant them to be seen.........just think, if its this good on TV, imagine it on the big screen...................
Wtf, is this a different version avatar or do I just not remember that beginning of the movie not being like that because I do not remember seeing the start of the movie like that, maybe I need to rewatch it
If your vision allows for watching in 3D, when the sequels come out, do yourself a favor and pay the arm and a leg to watch it in 3D -- IMAX 3D if you have the chance, since that's how it's natively shot (at huge expense and trouble). I have never felt more literally immersed in a film, and of course it's pure eye candy as well.

@@SofaandChill its only taking so long cause they are actually filming the next 3 at the same time XD
@@luvzanyandeverything Lot's to look forward to then :)
don't foget they actually created the na'vi language for the movie as well and there's people learning to speak and write it
Im the exactly the same!!
I’m so glad you watched the Director’s Cut. I think that opening sequence on Earth is so important for forming an emotional connection to Jake. I felt so much more invested in this cut than in the theatrical release.
"Oh, don't pick your ass in front of them." I cracked up so hard, had to rewind a few times! XD
Lmao, I just thought it would come across wrong to a group of people he had just met haha
This is my all time favourite movie, I'll never stop loving it!
Man, your reaction was the best I've seen, it was obvious that you were captured by the story and the world! Great that you saw the extended version, it has so much extra lore! :-)
I absolutely loved it Maria and can not wait for the final movie :)
I belive the native americans used to live like the Navi never hunting more then they needed to survive and always respecting the nature.
It's a truly wonderful movie. The most fully realized alien world ever put on film. Imagine seeing it on the big screen in 3D.
I know right Richard? That would have been amazing mate
This looks extremely good for a movie from 2009. I already watched this movie but it was so long ago that I forgot most things
Pleased you watched it back and enjoyed it bro! Such a great looking movie for the time period yeah!

Yeah it was basically every sci fi idea he had since he was a kid. Starting with a dream he had of a bioluminescent forest.
"DANCES WITH WOLVES" rip-off
"so particular about every single detail"
Aside from the script and dialogue details right?

There's a ride in disney world that came out a few years ago where you ride a banshee. It's incredible!
Take my money....lol
I want to play on it right now 😁

I’ve seen it once time it’s amazing and avatar 2 is amazing
Great undercurrent narrative of the story is to protect the rainforests. The sequel focuses more on the protection of the ocean

Thank for this great reaction. I haven't been able to watch this movie in cinemas, only on 3D Bluray. I hope they show it again when Avatar 2 comes out in December.
No problem at all :) I can not wait to go to the cinema for second 1 :)
There will be remastered release for Avatar in September before the second one comes out this December.
Beautiful deep message…

Human and avatar see each other….
The floating mountains Comey from Rocky and Bullwinkle, as does the floating mineral which was originally called upsydaisyum in the carton series.
I am so glad you watched this. I’ve been checking in with you to see what’s been going on and it’s been cartoons. I’ve been waiting for you to come back to movies and this was the perfect one to watch. You had such great reactions! It was fun watching you again!
I took my lady friend to see this on the iMax three times in 3D. It will always be the best movie experience I will cherish.
i enjoyed your reaction so much! my favorite parts of the movie are each Neytiri scene and you caught every single one of them. she is the heart of the movie.
Something about this movie just touches my soul in a way that no other has.
Iam defo going to rewatch when it appears again in theatres in September & looking forward to the second movie in December :)
Me also Alexandra, I might even get some 3D goggles and go myself :)
At least then I will get the full effect lol
I absolutely love this movie
saw it as a kid and found it kinda boring, but now as an adult, i really do appreciate it, the CGI and the small details that really bring this movie to life. and even more so that it was filmed in my "own" back yard (New Zealand, Wetas' Wellington Studio) makes it even more special
3D was even better …it was an experience I will never forget
Can't wait for the sequel!!
This was released 7 months ago..... damn. I remember this releasing
lol :)
excellent excellent excellent that you saw the Extended version!!! It's only 30 more minutes of film but it explains many things that the original version is left out
Great reaction video 👌🔝
Aww thank you so much! Avatar 2 will be out in Cinemas soon :)
09:57 i love how your expresion went from thinking it's funny into pure horor XD
This movie was a treat on the big screen. I still love it. Great watching your reaction!
I have loved this movie.
I hope you will react to others James Cameron movies.
The Abyss is great, Titanic too.
An other great movie you must react too is Dances with wolves with Kevin Costner. You will love too.
Just in time for the sequel!
So glad you enjoyed this movie, can’t wait for the sequel!
Your reaction was so good, wow! I love this movie deeply and getting to reexperience it through your eyes was amazing. I enjoyed it so much and I love your accent. Can't wait to watch other reactions from you! I definitely subscribed 😊
I simply love your reactions!
Man you enjoyed the hell out of that movie!
lmao, I know right? bring on Avatar 2 Christian my friend!
@@SofaandChill you better see it in theaters!
This movie was INCREDIBLE in 3D.
I love this movie. I've seen a lot of ppl roll their eyes at it, but I don't get it. People say it's an allegory for what happened to Native Americans. I just look at the outside of it, no matter what it's underlay might be, and I think it's amazing.
and they roll their eyes to resist the messaging. You're the baddies, here. xo
A pretty decent film. Story’s a bit underwhelming in my view but I was a fan of the world building and the mythology. Am curious about where Cameron will take the series next (and whether we really need *4* sequels when we haven’t gotten one yet)
If you want a recommendation for a very similar story I highly recommend “Princess Mononoke” (and other Hayao Miyazaki movies) if you’ve never seen it.
Princess Mononoke 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I saw Avatar twice and this was a HUGE movie when it came out…very curious to see what the sequel will bring. Great reaction as always Kev!
For me this is the best film of all time. I'm looking forward to part. 2. It's supposed to come this year.
10:23 best reaction ever🤣
lol, and I meant it :)
Love this movie so much can't wait for sequel!!!
Like your videos keep it!
2009 was the year that my son was born
The story is basically representing Pocahontas and the diamond mining in Africa, but taking place in space on another planet. These are human true stories set in a way more people would except it.
one of my fav movies
Pandora is a moon.
love your reaction man, I love this movie, i watched multiple times and always amazes me, you should watch avatar the way of water in cinemas in 3D
Awesome reaction. It really is a superb movie. Beautiful. Can’t wait for the sequel this year.
I remember watching this in the cinema. It was amazing
The only movie I have ever watched a few hundred times.
This movie was amazing in 3D.
did you see the trailer for avatar 2? ::)
I most certainly have :)

Amazing movie need to wacth the next one
Alien Pocahontas basically is the story
And Fern Gully, and Dances With Wolves. These are also all movies I fell in love with, so combining them all was always going to win me over.
love your reaction 💙
Thank you so much :)
great movie
Great Reaction as usual, now more Vikings hahaha
The writer of the book and the movie wrote a entirely new language for the Omaticaya
Seeing it in IMax 3D was an experience!
New Avatar Sequel Is Coming Out In 2022
Wtf, is this a different version avatar or do I just not remember that beginning of the movie not being like that because I do not remember seeing the start of the movie like that, maybe I need to rewatch it
I noticed that, the Disney version and the one I watched had a different beginning, like the bar scene was missing from the Disney one!
