46 years old and I still love hip hop as much as I did when I first heard it in the very early 80s. I've been buying hip hop cassette tapes, CD's, and records since the beginning when there was no "rap" section. The term "hip hop" was only being said by people in NY at that time. I've owned almost every hip hop album there ever was up until around the early 2000's. Then I just kinda quit because hip hop was kinda wack in my opinion. I would say it started with Lil Wayne-Tpain-Drake all mixed together lol and it was like that for awhile. Now it turned into "trap" music, still sounds the same, and there's a whole bunch of them sing rapper auto tune cats just comin outta the woodwork. But now I'm starting to see a big change within the last 5 years or so, that boom bap, lyricism, gangsta, hood, gritty, grimy shyt is back. With rappers like MF Doom, Czarface, Pusha T, Run The Jewels, Freddie Gibbs, Conway The Machine, Benny The Butcher, RA The Rugged Man, Jay Electronica, Kendrick Lamar, Westside Gunn, Royce Da 5'9, 38 Spesh. Then Nas, Pharoe Monch, DMX, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Gangstarr, all released albums recently. So yeah its good to hear rappers bringing back that original sound. I've recently started buying newer rappers albums again, I just wish the Griselda crew wouldn't charge so much for their vinyl. But yeah man 46 year old B BOY 4 LIFE!!!
This Boom Bap aint going anywhere, mainstream "Trap" is in the ground, but East Coast hiphop, Boom Bap, Political rap (mostly kendrick) and experimental hiphop (Jpegmafia) are all absolutely booming at the moment there hasn't been a better time for these underground artists in the rise of the old stuff once again. And off course the OG producers like The Alchemist and Madlib still kicking it, producing the best beats we've ever heard. Hiphop in a good place right now
In any youth driven musical genre the underground seems to always have the best shit & this goes back as far as the early 80’s....whether it be punk, hip hop or metal they all have the same spirit
You won't be able to find better hiphop right now, East Coast boom bap with Griselda and Alchemist on the beat is here to stay, and there's nothing the mainstream can do bout it

I had to comment again about how much I appreciate that xylophone in the instruments. That's a rare gem. I'm stoked.

Definitely an underrated instrument
Close! This sample features a vibraphone; pretty much a metal xylophone that’s used in a lot of jazz music!
