I am currently having my first English budgie from the animal shelter, with two Australian ones that I already had. And yes, they are so sweet and relaxed. Such a wonderful bird, instant love!
I got my first english budgie, without even buying it!! It started an year ago, I took my birds cage outside for a while, and when I came back I noticed another budgie was on the bottom of the cage!! (Where all the food falls) I noticed I wasn't in the cage and could escape if wanted to so I counted all the budgies and counted all 8...i realized the budgie on the bottom was not mine... It had no little metal thing on its leg, so it didn't come from a store... So I gently grabbed it and put it in the cage, and since then she's been with us ❤ edit: I forgot to mention she was so much more bigger than the other budgies, and was a tad heavy, and until today I found out she's an English budgie!
When I bought a friend for my other budgie after his brother died, I didn't realise initially that the new one was an English. A year later and he's a big floof! But still just as lovely.
One thing you failed too mention. Is due too all that "selective breeding" to get English Budgies also known as "exhibition budgies" to such a large size. It also has cut their life spans down considerably. American Budgies can typically live for 10+yrs with proper care. And English budgies might make it too about 7 max. And again this is due to the differences in sizes of both birds through specialized breeding.
I have four English budgies, did have five but one died recently. I will be getting a couple of regular budgies this time . Sadly english budgies do not live as long . I've heard they live between 5/7 years . Regular budgies can live to be 15, some even longer if taken care of properly. English budgies are definitely my favorite I just wish they lived longer. They tend to develop heart problems that's why they don't usually live as long.
I'm seeking a pair of English Budgies and can't find the quality I seek in Arizona. I'm not interested in breeding; I just want quality birds to enjoy the unique personality of the English Budgie.
According to Google: - Normal/Wild-Type/Australian/American/Pet budgies have a potential lifespan of 18-20+ years in age. - English/Show/Exhibition budgies have an expected lifespan of 9-12 years, maybe about 15. But it all depends on genetics, diet and lifestyle.
I've had English budgies live to be 10..... and one unfortunately died an accidental death. I've had pet shop standard budgies that averaged 5 years with great care.
They are often called English budgies because they were bred in England. Every budgie can be an "exhibition budgie" if you put it on an exhibition show.

English budgies are nice but I have heard that they mostly have heart issues
is it true?🤔
I don't know about that, but they do probably have some health problems because of inbreeding.
It depends on the breeder. You can get long-lived English.
