I ran an aircraft hydraulic shop for 17 years. This is how this work should be done. Cleanliness is most important. One suggestion I have is you should get some brass rod and make several types of seal picks. Eighth inch welding rod works good. This will save scratching polished parts.
You don't want to use brass drifts around open bearings. Use good old mild steel bar for drifts to drive bearings with. Brass drifts are good for driving other parts. Great video! Love watching this kind of stuff.
I just can't say enough about the quality of your videos! Great editing, explanation of what and why you are doing. And a real pleasure to watch. Look forward to the next one.
I hope you post videos when you start clear your property by the pond brother, I’d love to see the dozer working! You spent so much time restoring it, I enjoyed every video on the dozer! I’m hoping this excavator goes well for you Matt, I hope you do have to struggle on the Hitachi Matt! You’re definitely a better man than me Matt, I’d take all of that apart but I’d never get back together again my friend! You definitely have the skills brother!
I know about the thought of not being able to reassemble all those gear boxes. Finale drives and engine's. I wasn't taught how. I just went for it. And now I'm like you .take it apart and put it back together. Bravo there ain't many of us left
Wow Matt, after 1,653 and half parts and pieces 😂 she's back together. I'm amazed to the attention of cleanness you put into it. Looking forward to the next one. Be safe, stay well.
Use the Brass drift I sent you ! Lots of critical parts and valves to assemble. I never was fond of Hydraulic Systems that I worked on. And the City had plenty ! Thanks for sharing !
Hot down here in Louisiana too Matt, I never miss your videos my friend! I’m glad I get to see it this soon today brother! I’m learning a lot while you’re learning too my friend! lol 😂
Well, I definitely think if Matt was given the special tools and parts to remove, rebuild and reinstall the main rotor transmission on a Sikorski HH52a Seaguard amphibious helo I flew in as a Coast Guard Aviation Machinist Mate Flight Mechanic/ Hoist Operator and it would be fully reliable to get us out to and back from rescue missions. He's that good in my estimation. I have removed one and reinstalled a fresh rebuilt one from it's storage/transportation can and it's not a walk in the park to do it. Can't wait to see him reinstalling it on the excavator then testing it. Absolutely no doubt that it's gonna work perfectly.
So many parts you have never set eyes on. A jig saw puzzle.. Then patients and dedication is the rule of the day to get it done in order. You do not want to take it down again. Good Vid and thanks..
Thanks for sharing Matt, I figured you would have to rebuild rams and change hoses and other things before you try anything brother! Take care my friend, Kirk from Louisiana! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Looking forward to the rest of this rebuild. I already don't recall the myriad of problems it came home with you with. Guess I will have to rewatch all the way back to the "will it start" part.
Great job putting this back together. I will say you are alot cleaner than most of these are reassembled. Most of them are tore apart and reassembled on a job site somewhere. Dust, dirt, and mud are part of it. You just do the best you can keeping it clean
Nice work Matt. Now you're at the nail-biting phase where you have to worry for the next few weeks "did I put that seal in right, did I seat the bearing correctly, did I forget a shim, are the clutch packs correct?" etc. That's the worst part. But to me you looked as thorough as you could possibly be.
Matt, patience is the key to a successful rebuild. Your methodology is somewhat chaotic at times and then you seem to catch yourself and recover. Kudos to you as this is a huge project.
Nice Job Matt your going to have a nice machine when your done . Hope your weather gets better not so hot .I’m in Vermont we are getting the rain crazy summer.
I have no Idea how I found your channel, But I am glad I did! I am learning everything I need to know about everything I will never own!!! I love it!!!
Looks like a trip to harbor freight for a hydraulic press. Love these videos on heavy equipment builds and running heavy equipment. That's why I subscribed. Grew up in alvadore oregon. Grandpa was a logger in Tillamook and Florence
Yeah this is hard to believe you are doing this…There are some many things to get right.. The thought is scarcely for me.. So good luck and keep going..Get the thing going soon..
More courage than I have, but saving grace is low RPM. Clean room is important especially for engine build consider A/C. Great job no parts left over and it rotates by hand correctly planetary gears seem a little loose but if it doesn't leak this will be a monumental accomplishment and a HUGE cost saving. Good luck from a fan. Ray Stormont
Matt, you are a skilled mechanic and keep everything nice and clean so you don't have headaches in the future. Waiting for your next rebuild posting. Blessings to you, Matt.
enjoy seeing the rebuild . Nice to see folks want to rejuvenate the older forgotten machines. Question of the day " DO YOU EVER GET EXCITED WHEN YOU HAVE STRUGGLED AND THEN THINGS GO TOGETHER ?
Loved watching this latest instalment of your efforts Glad that it wasn't too much of a pita cos there's heck of a lot left to go through with the excavator
Fantastic build. Sorry I missed the earlier vids, but I'm certain this made up for my loss. Thanks for sharing the cost of some of the parts. It makes me cringe to see the money you've been laying down for the party, though. Hopefully the financial bleeding will come to an end soon so that portion of headache will be gone, but it certainly is great to see a common man being able to complete such a monumental task, alone. Please keep up the great vids and stay safe. God bless.
Definetly OCD Matt. The way it should be. You now are qualified to teach hydraulics in a tech school. Loved my class. We took all kinds of pumps and cylinders, and valves. apart. I ended doing hydraulics on paper. Keep the videos coming.
amazing and detail oriented assemble better than most of the channels , by watching this you can learn a lot as a mechanic and use this for reference to fix u r own at u r risk, but lot of knowledge shared how to fix rotating hydraulic mechanism Hitachi EX120-2 kudos
I really look forward to your videos. Your approach to work is addictive to me as a viewer with its combination of humility (the way you leave little mistakes in the edits) and direct action. Your sense of humor is subtle and drier than the Atacama. I never thought you could do so much with Harbor Freight tools! Which goes to show that its not the tools but the mechanic wielding them that get the job done. I'm glad you only get a video out once every week or two because I lost nearly a week of productivity bingeing on the Cat D4 project. I'll probably watch the whole thing over again in a year or so. Keep it up!
Thanks for content! I like your excavator restoration videos! Greetings from Lithuania! See you Matt in the next one Im guessing: engine fully rebuild or service only?
Perfect annunciation of exactly what you’re doing and why you’re doing it I get a kick out of watching you Matt good job explaining what you’re doing. Keep up the great work and enjoy the contact.

I believe he did alright with being clean. Yes, brass drifts would have been helpful. I don't believe anything was damaged.
You don't want to use brass drifts around open bearings. Use good old mild steel bar for drifts to drive bearings with. Brass drifts are good for driving other parts. Great video! Love watching this kind of stuff.
@@4GSR I take what you didn't say was the brass might flake and drop into the bearing?
@@dans_Learning_Curve Yes, absolutely! My dad drilled that into me in my earlier years of life.
Wow - again! "Inch by inch - everything is a cinch". Great job being logical.
Let's ROLL, Matt! This is among some of the fastest, most entertaining content still left on this God-forsaken platform.
AMEN!!!!
For sure! Matt does a fantastic, entertaining and very informative job! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
A dog, some geese and a rebuilt swing motor! Whats not to like! Thanks Matt,....standing by for the next installment!
I just can't say enough about the quality of your videos! Great editing, explanation of what and why you are doing. And a real pleasure to watch. Look forward to the next one.
It amazes me how you are not a mechanic or it's your field of work..and you seem to get everything right back on it.
I hope you post videos when you start clear your property by the pond brother, I’d love to see the dozer working! You spent so much time restoring it, I enjoyed every video on the dozer! I feel the same way!!!!!!
I know about the thought of not being able to reassemble all those gear boxes. Finale drives and engine's. I wasn't taught how. I just went for it. And now I'm like you .take it apart and put it back together. Bravo there ain't many of us left
Exactly! If it's already broke you have nothing to lose by taking it apart! At least give it a go. Just like in the USAP.
Wow Matt, after 1,653 and half parts and pieces 😂 she's back together. I'm amazed to the attention of cleanness you put into it. Looking forward to the next one. Be safe, stay well.
I would have had at least a faster or two left over from somewhere...guaranteed!
Great job Mat. You are a brave man for tackling such a big job.
I’m learning a lot while you’re learning too my friend! lol 😂
it must be hot. Charlie was very laid back.
Look after yourself, don't end up with a hernia like me! Nice to see someone who appreciates keeping hydraulics clean.
It's a package, of course, but the humor is key.
Piece by piece it comes together!
What a diabolical device..! Your nonplussed elan is remarkable...oh my....very expensive nonchalance if wrong.... oh welll....CARRY ON

04:00 Microphone through the hole in the shirt 😂😂😂 Nice 1 Matt 😂
Good to see you back at it Matt. You really need to get brass punch for driving those bearings. I would sleep better if you did. 😊
So many parts you have never set eyes on. A jig saw puzzle.. Then patients and dedication is the rule of the day to get it done in order. You do not want to take it down again. Good Vid and thanks..
I never seen a camp stove and a bearing assembly ! Just like FLETCH movie, 3-1 oil and ball bearings
Picked up a D-4 7U on Sunday. Going down the rabbit hole
nice! good luck!
Hi absolutely loving your videos, the dozer and now the 360 excavator, 🏴🇬🇧
You should get a brake clean sponsorship. 😂😂 That was fun to watch, you are a very patient person.
beautiful watching a hydraulic surgen at work,
I have a newfound respect for mechanical engineers.

Yet another video with no hillbilly

I fixed the brakes on my car today and I almost lost my cool so I have no idea how you do these massive projects and be so cool at the same time
if this rebuild is only getting 50% of the love the D4 got, it's still going to be seriously good entertainment. Great work.
Yeah this is hard to believe you are doing this…There are some many things to get right.. The thought is scarcely for me.. So good luck and keep going..Get the thing going soon..

You have soo much more patience then me
I would have set it on the counter and picked it up later and paid cash to get it back ----he is good
Oh phew! Glad you didn't put an irrigation riser on there.
A very wonderful video and a very wonderful work. I am from Algeria
The confidence you have for that plastic bucket is making me gringe. Keep up the good work, best content in youtube
Cleanness important
Great video

Great channel Matt. I love to see old equipment re-furbished and put back into service.
Polish your shaft gentlemen, it's really important to polish your shaft really good. Don't let your shaft be unpolished!
Treat your thrust washers with respect as well, as well as the glands both male and female if you want to stay out of trouble
How cleaver are you. I would not know where to start. Great content. Keep them coming. UK
MVP trophy goes to that 5 gallon bucket! Lol, that thing held some weight!
5gal buckets are the engine stand of choice for Mazda rotary rebuilders lol. Seen them hold a up 200lb man standing on a 200lb engine 😅
Oil soaked repair manual, love it👍.
The pages become transparent 😮
enjoy seeing the rebuild . Nice to see folks want to rejuvenate the older forgotten machines. Question of the day " DO YOU EVER GET EXCITED WHEN YOU HAVE STRUGGLED AND THEN THINGS GO TOGETHER ?
relieved more than excited
Congrats PN Hillbilly, on finally getting the Swing Device rebuilt, great Job.
Love your attention to detail. Look forward to the rest of this restoration.
Another interesting an informative segment. Thanks Matt.

That was some interesting assembly work. I'm sure this machine just like the D4 has some not so great surprises in store.
I enjoy watching you work Matt, you do an excellent very through job, on all your repairs, you have a great channel!!!
That's a strong bucket!
Very nice video good job on the pump.
Thanks for sharing Matt look forward to the next video 🦘
Best of RUclips plus your videos give me Estacada flashbacks. Thanks! Keep it up.
Thanks Matt

I love those spacers for the bearing "fryer".
I would absolutely not have that much faith in a 5 gallon bucket but I’m glad it worked out
Thank you. Enjoy all of your efforts.
Very few RUclipsrs get a “OH SWEET”!! Out of me when they drop a video. You sir are at the top of the list!!

Ha! Love the Charlie With Lazer Eyes thumbnail
Great episode. Hope your leg muscle heals well... take it easy, Matt!
Matt, I love that you actually restore rather that just make things work. Great work and great editing too.

I love videos with SMELL-O-VISION.
Good job on the rebuild.
Perfect! Some nice at last to watch!!!
Cleanliness is next to godliness! Good job Matt!
That’s a great job to put all that back together in your shed, all things considered. Well done
You should have done before and after pictures of that clean, pretty concrete floor.
I have some before I rolled the dozer in, they are too sad to look at though
@@PacificNorthwestHillbilly it sure does feel like home now :)

Very well done!!!!!❤❤👍👍👍👍👍

Great amount of work, thanks for sharing , keep kicking around that old one together.... :)
The spring on the seal always goes towards whatever you're sealing. Keeping water out? Spring out, keeping oil in, spring in.
meticulous work... It should work perfect... GOOD JOB !!!!
Comment, Thank you for taking the time to film and edit these videos. Very enjoyable.
That is one complex assembly. Well done !
Very cool following such complicated procedure.
Thanks Nik!
Stay safe and we'll see you next time.
Loving this restoration project
Nice job Matt, sucks when you wait and get a useless replacement part, waste your time and mojo. Nice project to video can,t wait for more.
