Thank you for your request, I'll have to acquire another WiiMote. I'll add this to my future video list, the question does come up on occasion. I appreciate you watching!
Wow, another awesome video Jon! This brings the real Arcade feeling to your living room :D It‘s a lot of steps to set it up, but seems absolutely worth is. Thanks for this!
It's a few steps, not too bad really. Once you get a hang of it anyways :) I remember the first time trying to get MAME games working on my Arcade cab I did struggle (about 4 years ago). That's part of what got me into RUclips content creation, to try to make it easier for others trying to do the same. You would probably really enjoy the Raspberry Pi 4, right up your alley and your experience with Linux/Unix would come in really handy on the Pi 4!
I have a generic dolphinbar that is completely wireless. It is just the IR sensor and runs on batteries. it does not sync with a wiimote. So I have two questions; One I am assuming I can not do this with my current dolphinbar because the wiimote does not sync with it if I am correct? And second question is, do I need the wiiu wiimote that already has the built in motion sensor in it? because I have the original wiimote that I need the added attachment to play games like Skyward Sword. This is a great tutorial, anyway!
Hi Frank, I don't have that unit nor have I tried it so I honestly can't offer any recommendations that would be helpful. Anything I state would be a guess. I can only base it on my experiences with the Mayflash Dolphin bar and documented everything I did here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Hardware_Setup Wish I could help more than this.
I don't recall trying that game, honestly. I've since blown this image away and installed RetroPie 4.6 (the official beta release) in its place. I need to re-setup the light-gun support on the new image. So much to do!
It's possible to connect the Nunchuck to the Wiimote and configure it's buttons? If so, you can use it to throw the grenades and to backtrack in Aliens. That would be really cool!
I was able to assign the Left D-Pad to the Button 2 ... this works well as you can hole the gun with your left finger there, a bit frustrating that I couldn’t configure the 2nd trigger on my gun to do that ...
really awesome video. So excited to get this working, I have the dolphin bar and wii remote, but sadly cannot get everything to work. I get the d plus arrows and home key setup, but no motion tracking at all. very frustrating,(not with your video or setup) any help would be amazing
Thank you so much, I appreciate it! When I was testing this, I used the MAME 2003 0.78 romset running on Supreme RetroPie image. I've not since repeated this test on the official RetroPie 4.6 beta but I wouldn't expect any issues (not sure what you're running). May want to double-check that you've done all the steps here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Light_Gun_Support_with_Mayflash_DolphinBar_Wii_Remote just to make sure something didn't get missed. Let me know how it goes please.
How did you link the trigger button on the wii remote with the shoot function, I might have missed when you set up that function...also I was curious if the dolphin bar allowed for the wii nunchuck to pair to the retro pi as well?
Hi William, all the mapping I performed starts around the 04:45 point. Not sure about the nunchuck, I didn't have one available to test only the WiiMote. Hope this helps!
@@WagnersTechTalk In your mappings you don't ever map the trigger underneath the wii remote, you only do the face buttons. Even in the mame button config you don't map the trigger so at what point does the system know what button is shoot? When I try to map it in the main controller config (not in mame) it doesn't detect the button press on the trigger.
Hi Jon, I'm not aware of anyone who does. I don't sell anything, I make YT videos/guides so others can do the same. Even if I had the time (which I don't), this would prevent me from doing it: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Installing_ROMs
Love the Video. I have been following your videos instructions, but my issue is that I cannot get to the games setting. I tried the "Tab" button, but nothing happens. Am I missing a step. The remote is paired, but No luck getting into the game settings.
This video was using the Supreme Pro RetroPie image and the Mame-Libretro core. If your light gun games are copied there, restart Emulation station and you should see them under the MAME Menu. Then, connect your keyboard, launch the game and press TAB to configure.
Thank you Allan, I'm not able to provide links, etc. for obvious reasons. If you search for something like 'archive romset' you may find something helpful.
You may want to check out this video on Recalbox and Light-gun setup: ruclips.net/video/uoldBGHVXKA/видео.html . Recalbox will auto-sort your lightgun games, makes it super-easy.
Does this week seemlessly with retropie or do you have the configure the dolphin bar. I want to be able to play wii games with motion controls such as super mario galaxy 2. Any help would be appreciated!
I'll try to help, this video is nearly 4 years old. A lot has changed since then. If you're using a Pi5, this might help: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi5/#Recalbox or for the Pi4 this one: ruclips.net/video/uoldBGHVXKA/видео.html . Hope one of these help you out!
I still can't get any of this to register in-game. Can't get A/B to work, nor the cursor. It works when I bring up Retroarch menu but not the config that you access via tab key. I wonder if the touchpad on my mini keyboard is throwing it off, but it's the exact same one I had when I DID get this to work on a previous Pi setup.
On the previous Pi setup, were you using the same mini keyboard? What's different between the one that worked and the current one? Just trying to visualize so I can offer some recommendations.
Just won’t work for me, trigger or button 1 and 2 not detected when setting buttons for the game. the cursor doesn’t move. I’m using a pre made image on a pi 4. Damaso nostalgia trip 128gb.
Great video and good to see someone making progress with getting this working at long last. Would it be possible to set this up in a similar way on the PC with MAME?
I've notice that in most video showing this particular light gun setup that the user is always back quite a ways from the monitor. Is it necessary to be that far back to play with the light gun? I like being up closer to the monitor like in the arcades.
Around 3-8 feet from the sensor bar is ideal for this setup for the Dolphin bar and the Wii remote to acquire the correct angles. It is designed a little bit differently from some of the original arcade hardware. There are other light gun options available such as the AimTrak light gun that you might be interested in.
I followed your video (great one, by the way), but I can't get the first player's crosshair to move horizontally, just vertically. The second player's one is working nice though. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you Luis! Only thing I can think of is to make sure the mode is set correctly. Otherwise, it may be something wrong in the sensor bar. I've not heard of this issue, but seems a likely suspect. If it's within the return window, try exchanging it for another and see if that resolves the problem.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thank you for the quick reply! The funny thing is that it works nicely with Nes games, so it seems to be something with the setup, not the bar itself. I'll keep messing with it 🤔
Thank you! I have absolutely nothing against Aimtrack, I'd love to get one someday. A bare-bones Aimtrack costs $95 (without recoil+power supply), this setup cost ~$75 and for about $20 more I could have a 2 player setup. I'm happy with the dolphin bar+wiimote, more buttons and not too expensive.
I already had several Wii remotes and I bought a gun shell with two triggers and faux rumble for $10 on either Amazon or eBay. I forget which. I just can't for the life of me get this to work on my Pi 4, even with these steps. Had it working perfectly on my Pi3B+ setup.
Sir I have tried with many different images and what not and I have yet to make the wiimote work properly, its been very frustrating,,and I followed your steps to a tee
If you're using an actual Dolphin bar (and not a knock-off) it should work for you. Another thing you can try is the latest Recalbox, please see this: ruclips.net/video/uoldBGHVXKA/видео.html Perhaps this may help?
@@WagnersTechTalk I did what you said and I used the recalbox,,worked like a charm,,other than the atomiswave and naomi gun games ,,the others worked like a charm,,even the psx games worked, once again you helped me,,I appreciate that you responded to me more than once and helped thank you very much.
@@jjdrumboy55 Always welcome, it's something I like to do. I know many throw out videos and never respond when things get tough. Not how I like to do things.
@@WagnersTechTalk oh ok awesome, yeah i just purchased dolphin off amazon with wii controllers , seems allot cheaper than the other options , looking forward to testing it on the ps classic
Nice tutorial! May be u can help me: I have a Rasp Pi4 with an USB home-made sensor bar (not Dolphin) and I´m trying to set a wiimote for running in retropie. The wiimote is recognized as a device with all its buttons but not the axis. So if I try to run Terminator 2 or alien 3, the gun sight never appears. I´ve seen many tutorials that show this is possible to do. Any idea???
I've only used the Mayflash Dolphin bar, can't help much with a custom bar. May think about trying it with Recalbox, support is really very good with it and requires no configuration. Here's a video that I made recently on it: ruclips.net/video/uoldBGHVXKA/видео.html Not that it will necessarily work any differently with your home-made bar, but it might.
Nice tutorial my friend.. you can do the some tutorial in batocera? In the last version the emu .93 dont be, and the wii Joystick dont works correctly. Ty!! :)
Thank you Jorge for your recommendation and watching. I'll add it to my list to see what I can come up with, no idea when it will happen honestly. I have a long list already but I'll give it a try at some point with Batocera.
For thoese wondering I've asked the manufacturer of the dolphin bar and they confirmed they tested it with a reproduction remote from China. However it was also tested with official Motion Plus add-on and not reproduction Motion Plus. I've decided to try it out, I think the odds are in my favor on this. I've got everything but I'm not ready to test it yet on my Pi project. I'll try to leave another comment when I'll have the result.
I bought a dophin bar and it never paired with my wiimotes. I have 2 original nintendo wiimotes...They weren't the ones with motion plus built in...actually one paired for like a few seconds when I first tried it I saw the two split lights then the bar shut off and it never paired again. Can I keep the wii powerd on and just use the original wii's bar with this setup?
Good questions, I honestly don't know about using the original Wii bar. I sold our old Wii many years ago to buy an XBoxOne. I only bought the one WiiRemote shown here for testing/playing the light-gun games. I didn't have any issues pairing it, other than figuring out the right combination of buttons I wanted to use. Once I did that, it just worked.
Have my wiimote setup been playing Aliens, how do I configure button for bombs. Trigger works for the machine gun, but don't want to use space bar for bombs can't get mame to recognise the A button on wiimote. Would be great for some help.
In MAME, press the TAB key and move down to the option to configure for "this game only". Then select the secondary button and map to another button you have available. The issue you may have is that there are not many buttons on the WiiMote. You may be able to map to the volume button(s).
Not sure if this image is still available, I also have a video for Recalbox which definitely is still available: ruclips.net/video/uoldBGHVXKA/видео.html . You'll be seeing a lot of light-gun related content on this channel soon. Received some new guns and will be adding new guides/videos showing how to set them up. No just using Wii motes like what is shown here but actual dedicated light guns.
Appreciate your support, first of the new light gun guides is next up. It will be using it with an Arcade machine (Legends Ultimate), soon after Batocera/Recalbox.
Everything would be nice if this sensor bar supports 2 guns, e.g. in Mame, while in the Wii it supports, in Mame and other emu you need some tricks, additional Bluetooth, etc. I wonder what is the maximum size of the tv for this sensor, I suspect that the max is 32 inches :(
I only have the one gun shown here, I've not tried it with two guns. Are you saying you tried two guns and it didn't work? Please share any info. you have.
@@WagnersTechTalk I tried that, unfortunately, I could not get the 2 gun to work, from what I know the best, fastest but not the cheapest solution is to have 2x Dolphin bar then the configuration and fun is excellent There is also an option with Bluetooth + Touchmote program ew option that I'm just going to test DemulShooter program
How do you get the second wii mote to be able to sync? I can get one working just fine but then if i press the sync button on the dolphin bar again it wont ever blink. Just stays solid blue.
I honestly don't know the answer to this question, I don't have either games. You may want to ask your question here for a faster response: www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/
nice video? Anything tricky about having two guns configured? Also have you seen Big Buck Hunter available to use on the rasp pi4? Oh... will this work with a Arcade1up monitor setup? Thank you!!
Hi Brent, sorry I won't have much info for you here. I've not tried two light guns at once. Big Buck Hunter I've not seen/tried. Not sure about the Arcade1UP monitor setup, there are videos out there on modding the Arcade1UP with a Pi but not sure if the placement of the light bar would be sufficient on top of the cabinet.
everything worked so far except for when I launch the game, I get a splash screen and then it goes back to my game select screen, can you help me troubleshoot? Thank you to you and the community for any help you can provide. Oh I am on the Raspberry Pi 4 running Virtualmans Retro Bliss 128gb Build.
Hi Daniel, I'm not familiar with the Virtualmans Retro Bliss build. If they have a forum, you may want to ask there. Lately, I just create my own images using the base RetroPie 4.6 as my starting point. Sorry I'm not much help with this question..
@@WagnersTechTalk so let's say I'm building my own image, do I have to add emulators or configure them differently? Or does the base build include that and all I do is add ROMs to whatever directory is already there?
@@WagnersTechTalk there was a folder already called light gun so I put them there but perhaps that's my problem as I didn't put the games under the folder you suggested, I will try to move the files to where you had yours and see if that changes my results.
When I created this video, the official RetroPie release wasn't available (it is now). You could use RetroPie, or you can join the Supreme Team on Facebook (group): facebook.com/groups/supremeretrogaming/discussion/preview Both images do not include games.
Great video, thank you! Got me up and running quickly! Rail Chase is another super fun light game that also works well! A couple of tips I’ll through out there: (1) I was hoping and tried but could not get 2 light guns working from one dolphin bar (2) the first Wii motion mote I tried was super slow and laggy almost unplayable, don’t know why the 2nd one (same brand) was far better (3) use mame2015 if you can ... I started having major problems with mame2010 tab configuration... not sure why but I finally discovered my default was set to mame2010 instead of mame2015, most of the light games I am playing work under mame2015!! GOOD LUCK and THANKS WTT love your videos!!!
Hey there anytime I do this it will not allow me to configure the trigger button almost as if it is not reading it, either in retropie to configure or in MAME. What could be causing this?
Not sure, I've not run into this issue. Is it a new WiiMote you're using? If you have another, give it a try to see if there is a problem with it. Can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work otherwise.
Does it have to be the mayflash? I couldn't get one on amazon so I got a cheaper one that is still usb but no buttons for a menu or sync will it still work?
Number one do you have a list of all the roms for mame that are light gun. Number 2 do you have to have the light gun games separated or is it just your preference
@@WagnersTechTalk i thought about putting them in a list but then i would have to hunt them all down. Where did you go to cross reference your light gun games
I just built up a limited list of games that I knew of and had available. There was a website that had a list of several light-gun games for MAME but I didn't save that link and don't remember.
Has anyone tried adding this to an Arcade1Up cabinet? I'm not sure how close to the screen the sensor bar has to go, but I was thinking that it might be something I could attach on the underside of the kiosk next to the speakers.
I know this is an older video, but I've tried this out and I just can't seem to get it working accurately. Your cross hairs look nice and smooth in this video. Mine kind of lag and jump all over the place if I turn the sensitivity down. If I turn the sensitivity up (or speed up/down) and move the wiimote slightly, I'm completely off the screen. I am running this on a 55" so I suspect that might have something to do with it. It helps slightly if I stand back near 8 ft away, but even then it's pretty unreliable. I didn't see you mess with the analog settings at all in this video. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance. :)
Also, for those having trouble accessing the menu with TAB: You need to go into your retroarch settings and switch the input interface option to keyboard or simultaneous. (I use simultaneous)
Some TV's don't seem to respond well. I used a portable monitor for my testing and it worked great (all my video capture equipment is connected there). However, on my Visio TV it was not a good experience. I suspect it is the TV. If there is a game mode, try enabling that. Also, you may want to checkout my latest video on Recalbox light gun. It works with game consoles and arcade games. Setup is automatic and it categorizes your games too. I did not try it with a large screen TV, however. Hope this helps!
I can't fire with the trigger button, the wiimote won't move the crosshair, and when I press the minus button it exits the game bringing up a weird black and green menu. I followed all your steps. Am I missing something?? Thanks!
Hi Brian, I documented all the steps I went through to set it up here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Light_Gun_Support_with_Mayflash_DolphinBar_Wii_Remote May want to double-check everything. The hardware shown in this video is all I used for testing. Hope it helps you!
@@WagnersTechTalk nice but it's for recalbox and I'm on retrobat. It's not the same system and there no need to config anything for recalbox. But for retrobat yes I need
You'll need to research for Retrobat, I don't have any content on that. Since you commented on a Pi4 video using the Mayflash dolphin bar thought you were using a Pi4. Sorry, I won't be helpful with that at the present time.
I have a dolphin bar and wii remote and it’s really pissing me off bcuz I can’t get it to work.. some buttons work but the cross that lets you aim is not showing for nothing.. I have a raspberry pi 3b it really shouldn’t make a difference... Bro any help or suggestions I would appreciate it a lot. I have shooting games in 3 diff type of mame folders only bcuz people are saying they only work in specific folders. Well unfortunately 1 of them which is advance mame non of the games work and in the the other mame folders only a couple games work so I’m really really starting to get aggravated.. idk what I’m missing, I’ve hooked up everything to a pc so I know it works as a cursor..
Everything I did to get it working I documented here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Light_Gun_Support_with_Mayflash_DolphinBar_Wii_Remote . The only difference is I used the Supreme RetroPie build instead of the official RetroPie (it was not public at the time). Hope some of this helps!
Wagner's TechTalk I appreciate the feedback bro really I do. Unfortunately non of it worked, I had to install a bunch of stuff that looked like it would help. Eventually I got the buttons to work now, Now the cursor is the problem it doesn’t show up at all.. the emulator reads the wii mote as a reg controller...
@@WagnersTechTalk They are just Aimtrak light guns. I guess arcade guns 2.0 are upgraded versions. I have a red and a blue one. I'm currently using a mouse for my light gun games.

ok when I try this the wiimote will not sync as a mouse. it will only show 1 light, buiti wont show light 1 and 4 on the mote to make it a mouse. any idea what can be causing this?
All the information I have about the setup is here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Hardware_Setup I wrote it up as I was setting it up. I would double-check that everything was done as mentioned, it worked well for me. If you're using a different WiiMote than the one shown in the video you may have difficulties.
@@WagnersTechTalk Appreciate the reply my dude. I actually worked out the issue. If you have more than one mouse device connected (i.e I have a trackball connected to my cabinet also) then you MUST change the mouse index value in retroarch from 0 to either 1,2, 3 etc...whatever it may be until it starts working (go to settings->Input-> Port Bind 1) while in the game. This can then be saved permanently through changing the .cfg file for that game in the emulator you are running by adding input_player1_mouse_index = "x" where x is the mouse index that works for your gun. Maybe you could add this in your instructions so people like me don't bang their head against the wall for days wondering why he potentially wasted money on a 'defective' product/setup :) Thanks again.
Awesome Paul, thank you so much for the follow-up! I'll add your comments above to the web page under the troubleshooting section and let you know here once it's done. Again, appreciate the time you took to provide details!

What when you click the "-" button on the Wii Mote it exits the configuration? Make sure you press enter on the button you're mapping, then press the "-" key and see if it takes it.
I tried this with latest retropie, but again does allow me to add it as a controller (when I hold down a button, it does not detect the Wii). The arrow buttons seemed to work without config. Same with Recalbox. Finally tried batocera. It allowed me to add the controller, though the hotkey would not config. I loaded rom for terminator 2 and alien 3. T2 would not.load. alien 3 loads, goes to what seems demo mode but nothing happens. Pressing start button makes the game exit. Has anyone tried this setup with latest OS updates? I prefer Recalbox if anyone was able to make it work with that. Thank you
I've not tried this setup since this video was created, the only issues I had was figuring out the proper button mapping. I've not done any testing of Recallbox nor Batocera with the Wii remotes at this point. I hope to revisit this in the future with different options. Everything I did I documented here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Light_Gun_Support_with_Mayflash_DolphinBar_Wii_Remote step by step.
I'm extremely close to smashing everything to bits. I've followed everything and have got to the point where I hit tab after loading the game, but every time I press enter on my keyboard, it exits to the main menu. I've tried two keyboards and I'm having the same issue. It's coming up to 1 hour and nothing I've seen or read is able to fix this issue.
@@WagnersTechTalk how would I go about doing this? I found something that said to delete the default config files and allow new files to generate, but that didn't work
I have a Troubleshooting section that includes all of the feedback that I've received from those who have done the same here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Troubleshooting-2 The official RetroPie documentation may be found here and may be helpful: retropie.org.uk/docs/Wiimote-Controller

Wagner's TechTalk yes it does do you know how to get a non dolphin bar to work with wii remote ?? I have a bar that has a usb at the end to plug into raspberry pie..
It's hard to quantify. Anything I write here would likely be inaccurate as I have no good way to provide an actual number nor the physical machine to compare it against. However, it is fun and responsive enough - IMO.
I don't know the game you're referring to, the crosshair is most likely coming from the game itself. If so, then you can check the emulator settings but most likely no.

Someone mentioned Amazon is currently sold out, but there are some available on ebay if you're having a hard time finding one. I can't comment on any other sensor bars since I haven't tried them. Not to say others won't work, just that I can only confirm this one does.
@@WagnersTechTalk I still can't find one even on eBay 🤔. Says no matches found, then suggests other USB powered bars, but I think I specifically need this model for it's native blutooth ? Thanks for the reply by the way!
This thing is not plug and play. An important step is left out, the one that gets the Pie to recognize the Wiimote. There are no tutorials on this anywhere. The IR bar has nothing to do with it.
No tutorials anywhere? Have you seen my step-by-step instructions mentioned in the video description: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Light_Gun_Support_with_Mayflash_DolphinBar_Wii_Remote It worked for me under Supreme RetroPie and I documented everything I did.
I appreciate the tutorials but geez, when is a tutorial ACTUALLY going to work? Seriously. No trigger mapping, not even the same mame options. It simply doesn’t work. Legit wii remote, same gun case, same game… Jeezus what a waste of money. Thanks!
This video was made *before* the official release of RetroPie with Pi4 support (uses Supreme Pro RetroPie - unofficial image). Recalbox 7.2 Reloaded now has light gun support built-in and it works well. It even scans all your games to see which ones support light-gun and places them in their own category. I've been testing it for a bit and will have a vid on it coming as soon as I'm ready. So, if you prefer to try Recalbox, you can install that or wait for my tutorial on it. Here's how to install Recalbox: ruclips.net/video/RfXS4HMuMDo/видео.html . For light-gun, just plug in the Mayflash dolphin bar into an available USB port, make sure the mode is set for 2, pair your WiiMote and you're good to go. RetroPie will also work, but you need to install Advanced MAME under experimental emulators and then you can follow along this tutorial as-is (official RetroPie does not pre-install Advanced MAME as Supreme RetroPie did). See here for adding additional emulators: wagnerstechtalk.com/retropietips/#Add_Emulators The above should get u going 😉
I got same set up with raspberry pi 4b.
Emulation Station and other emulaters have wiimote input options.
Just as good as those $130 PC lightguns too.
Could you also walk through getting a second gun up and running? I've seen tutorials do it using a second sensor bar but they're not using Retropie.
Thank you for your request, I'll have to acquire another WiiMote. I'll add this to my future video list, the question does come up on occasion. I appreciate you watching!
Wow, another awesome video Jon!
This brings the real Arcade feeling to your living room :D
It‘s a lot of steps to set it up, but seems absolutely worth is.
Wagner's TechTalk Thanks Jon. I wish i had more time for my RG350 projects 🙈 so much cool stuff, but such less time.
Would you be able to do a video or direct us to information showing how to set up an aimtrak light gun to the pi4?
Maybe at some point in the future, that light gun is fairly expensive and I don't have it in my budget currently.
Thank you for getting back to me.
I got my remote working easily with the bluez package. Never needed anything special. Going to get it going with a basic cheapo ir bar.
You Sir are awesome for sharing this...
Thank you so much! Got even more here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/
T2 is one of my favorites but is very hard! I met the main programmer for it a few years ago at a gaming expo.
Very cool! Yeah, love this game :)
This is cool! Wish time crisis games were on the pi.
You need to try this with House of the Dead on Dreamcast, I am really curious to see if it would work
Me to and I hope he used the Re-dream emulator to play any light gun games with the remote
On Pi 4 you can play Naomi with stellar results so the arcade version may be even easier to configure. Maybe.
You sold me if time crysis work have you tryed that game thanks for the hard work
I don't recall trying that game, honestly. I've since blown this image away and installed RetroPie 4.6 (the official beta release) in its place. I need to re-setup the light-gun support on the new image. So much to do!
@@WagnersTechTalk were you able to test if it works with time crisis yet?
It's possible to connect the Nunchuck to the Wiimote and configure it's buttons? If so, you can use it to throw the grenades and to backtrack in Aliens. That would be really cool!
Good question, I honestly don't know. I gave our Wii away years ago and no longer have the Nunchuck. I had to purchase a WiiMote to make this video :)
I was able to assign the Left D-Pad to the Button 2 ... this works well as you can hole the gun with your left finger there, a bit frustrating that I couldn’t configure the 2nd trigger on my gun to do that ...
Thanks for this! I'm doing this to my Arcade1up
really awesome video.
Make sure that your keyboard is unplugged
I would like to buy a console already set up with the gun games already built. Is there any place I could get one at. Or from you?
Hello. Great video. Im having troubles with the correct romset and games. Is there a way to get the gun games you're using? Thanks
Thank you Allan, I'm not able to provide links, etc. for obvious reasons. If you search for something like 'archive romset' you may find something helpful.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks totally get it. I was just trying not to get the whole romset only light gun games. But I'll give it a try. 👍

Nice one buddy 👍 a few people have asked how to do this in the group I shared your last RP4 video to on FB
Awesome thank you Sir!
I'm not familiar with that image. You may have a defective bar or weak batteries, may want to try the batteries and see if that helps?
Did u ever find a solution? I have the exact same setup and B and A never register when mapping buttons
Great video and good to see someone making progress with getting this working at long last. Would it be possible to set this up in a similar way on the PC with MAME?
Thank you Colin! I would assume it would work on a PC+MAME as well, but I've only tried it on a RPi 4, so I can't be 100% certain.
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks mate - will have a good read through it and see if I can adapt it
Yes works perfectly with all the pc mame gun games also model 2 and 3 and PS2 teknoparrot gun games I have tried (90 setup with Wii controller)
@@WagnersTechTalk But is the aimtrak good? I see different reviews, u should make one!
hi, thanks for this video ... does beast busters work? i can't calibrate it .. and laser ghost? at startup I always get the calibration ... thanks
I'm honestly not sure I have those games. You may want to post your question here for a faster answer: www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/
I'll keep messing with it 🤔
great video! wanted to point out for the price of a oem wiimote, dolphin bar, and gun case you could get an aimtrack lightgun
Every video I have watched shows how to map the buttons on the Wii mote , but no one shows how to map the X and Y axis. Very frustrating. Pls help
From what I understand, there is no X/Y button on the WiiMote. Are you using a nunchuck with yours?
X and Y axis meaning tracking movement up and down and left to right
I know this is an old video. But I want to know if this will work for modern tv like lcd or led hdtv’s ?
Yes, that's what I used and LCD Panel portable monitor. Remember, it's the sensor bar that's picking up the motion not the TV itself. Hope that helps.
No i tested it yesterday, you CAN'T move the cursor
Sir I have tried with many different images and what not and I have yet to make the wiimote work properly, its been very frustrating,,and I followed your steps to a tee
If you're using an actual Dolphin bar (and not a knock-off) it should work for you. Another thing you can try is the latest Recalbox, please see this: ruclips.net/video/uoldBGHVXKA/видео.html Perhaps this may help?
@@WagnersTechTalk I did what you said and I used the recalbox,,worked like a charm,,other than the atomiswave and naomi gun games ,,the others worked like a charm,,even the psx games worked, once again you helped me,,I appreciate that you responded to me more than once and helped thank you very much.

dang where did you get those awesome bezels?
This is a rather old video, but I think the bezels/theme were part of the Supreme Pro RetroPie image which was an unofficial RetroPie build.
@@WagnersTechTalk I´ll try. Thanks for the tip!
Will this work for PS1 games? I'm thinking the Point Blank range.
Would an non official Wii Remote work? Can't seem to find any Nintendo Wii Remote Plus anywhere at a decent price...
I honestly don't know, I only bought the one to test.
Hey I'm using the dump trucks with the to triggers is there anyway give me some tips how to set up the controls
@Mr Guru Perhaps at some point I'll try the same, I appreciate the info!
have you been able to activate the vibration of the wiimote?
I've not tried, honestly. I just used it for the light-gun support.
Thanks my friend worked it out cheers:)
Most welcome, happy you got it going!
I have a arcadepunks rpi 3 image how do I play light gun games ( rpi3)
Not familiar with that build, however in this video I show you how on a Pi4 with Recalbox (very easy): ruclips.net/video/uoldBGHVXKA/видео.html
Is this image still available? This is truly awesome
Thanks for that info, I'll look into the recalbox video! Subscribed!
Please share any info. you have.
@@WagnersTechTalk
I tried that, unfortunately, I could not get the 2 gun to work, from what I know the best, fastest but not the cheapest solution is to have 2x Dolphin bar then the configuration and fun is excellent
There is also an option with Bluetooth
+ Touchmote program ew option that I'm just going to test DemulShooter program
How do you get the second wii mote to be able to sync? I can get one working just fine but then if i press the sync button on the dolphin bar again it wont ever blink. Just stays solid blue.
I only have the one Wiimote, I haven't tried a 2nd one.
Does this model Pi play House of the Dead 1-4 or Time Crisis?

Map the coin and start button to the keyboard and the rocket launcher button to a button onthe WII mote.

Awesome Jeff, thank you for your feedback and sharing your experiences!
Honestly don't know, I only have the Mayflash.
@@WagnersTechTalk well I got up the 16th of August to return it, once I get a wii remote next week will test it.. Might be lucky

Did you have any luck? I'm planning on getting one of the off brand ones but not sure if it will work
Number one do you have a list of all the roms for mame that are light gun. Number 2 do you have to have the light gun games separated or is it just your preference
I don't have a list. 2nd, just my preference.
I personally have not, I only have one A1UP and that's the Star Wars cab. Maybe someone else will answer.
Also, for those having trouble accessing the menu with TAB:
You need to go into your retroarch settings and switch the input interface option to keyboard or simultaneous.
Hope it helps you!

can this be assigned to player 3 if player 1 and 2 are already set?
For light gun games, I'd put them in a separate folder as shown here and map those games to P1. For the rest, you could use P1&P2 for the sticks.
would that mean i would have to unplug from player one for the light gun games? im setting everything up in an arcade
no, just means for the light games the configuration you have would override the sticks.

Oh ok
ok when I try this the wiimote will not sync as a mouse. it will only show 1 light, buiti wont show light 1 and 4 on the mote to make it a mouse.
any idea what can be causing this?
Maybe you could add this in your instructions so people like me don't bang their head against the wall for days wondering why he potentially wasted money on a 'defective' product/setup :)

I have all the links and details here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Light_Gun_Support_with_Mayflash_DolphinBar_Wii_Remote Unfortunately, looks like Amazon has since sold out. I'm sure they'll re-stock.
When I try to configure the coin button it just exits the game. What am I doing wrong?!?!
Sounds like your button configuration is hosed. Might need to delete it and re-configure.
@@WagnersTechTalk how would I go about doing this? I found something that said to delete the default config files and allow new files to generate, but that didn't work
Is this only for pi4 ? I have a 3B+ pi
Should work with a Pi 3B+, however I've only tested it on a Pi 4.
Where did you download Area 51 at?
All the information I can provide on that question is here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Installing_ROMs
I take it these ROMs don't work on a pi3?
They should, keep in mind not sure how the performance would be though. The Pi4 is a bit more powerful, so there may be more latency, etc. on a Pi 3.
I for the life of me cannot get the wiimote to map in game so i can play HELP PLEASE N THANK U
I have a Troubleshooting section that includes all of the feedback that I've received from those who have done the same here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Troubleshooting-2
The official RetroPie documentation may be found here and may be helpful: retropie.org.uk/docs/Wiimote-Controller
does this setup work with 2 player ?
I only have one WiiMote, from what I hear from others it may not.
Does Raspberry Pi 4 support 2 light guns simultaneously?
I've honestly never tried 2 at the same time, but I can't see why it wouldn't work (just that I don't have an answer for you).
I tried and was unable to pair 2 Wii remotes simultaneously with 1 mayflash bar... they say it is possible, just not sure if that is in mode 2... would love to hear if someone succeeds with this
@@txgrolsch maybe you need 2 sensor bar
Excellent!
Thank you! Cheers!
hi i have rpi4 4gb with dolphin bar. area51 games go slow. I use mame2003 what emulator do you use? what configuration do you have to make them go well? my gun with wii mote is not precise the pointer is not exactly where I aim but much lower. do you think it depends on the faulty dolphin bar or is it a problem that you also have?
Overclock to 2.0 ghz and try mame2010
I might try to do this once I'm able to get my fan working with the argonone, and the 4.6 image of retropie. Is supreme pro image the best image right now? were you able to get it working with the argon one? how to set up the fan and the overclock. nobody is putting up a video or direct information of that. can someone help? light gun is fun but the REAL knowledge is how to set up the overclock and fan capabilities with the argonone case. I dont have any other cases.
The Supreme RetroPie image was released before the official 4.6 beta image. IMO - I'd likely go with the official RetroPie 4.6, but there is a lot of good stuff in Supreme as well. Boils down to preferences. Soon I'll be looking at the Argon case, not sure exactly when. I can only say "stay tuned..." at this point. It is coming once I have time.
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks for the reply. I have the supreme pro image on a card but never started it up because I have the 4.6. I just wish I was smarter with it because I dont how to start it up. and there are videos of people using it with the 4.6 image and the argon one. I hate thatbobody explains it clearly. what is wrong with the community? why isnt this a simple install? I typed in the fan and it loaded but no fan sounds. Overclocking that 4.6 image isnt as easy as some say. I'll stay tuned. thanks for replying. your the only one so far that has tried to assist me. I appreciate your help. I'll make a video on this once it's all done. I wish more people new how to do this. Ima serious retro gamer so for all those that love this. I wish it was easier for us all. Not hidden In forums and blogs. i just wish there was a one video set up with friendly instructions for all. Not just the tech smart guys.
Since you have RetroPie 4.6 installed, please check out my video and page here: wagnerstechtalk.com/retropietips This will give you good practice for when I get to the Argon case :) Here you'll learn a lot of cool things about RetroPie, including how to remotely connect to it from your PC. Hope it helps you out!
@@WagnersTechTalk Thanks for the link. I was successful in setting up the pie thus far. the only 2 things I havent figured out are the fan andnoverclock set up using the argonone with the 4.6 image. I feel like some people know but are not saying how to in 1 video or 1 paragraph. Making it hard for people like me. I've already build a pi3b+ years ago but the process seems slightly different now. too easy to break if you screw up once. feel like I'm on glass with this new build and case. people say easy but its NOT
I know it took a little while, but here you go: wagnerstechtalk.com/argonone I kept my promise :) The video goes into overclocking on Pi OS. The instructions below the video show you how to install the fan scripts in RetroPie.
Mate, does it work for 2 player mode as well?
I only have 1 controller, but from what I've heard from others it may not work with 2 WiiMotes.
@@WagnersTechTalk Do you think TeamPlayer4 Lite - the appication to have 2 independent mouse coursors on the screen would do the trick for 2 player mode in mame shooters?
which image are you using?
At the time this video was created, the official RetroPie image was not yet available. So, I used the Supreme Pro RetroPie image.
So it shows you mapped the top but what about the button underneath the wii remote?
After mapping the buttons as shown here, I didn't need to map the fire button separately. Hope this helps.
Wagner's TechTalk yes it does do you know how to get a non dolphin bar to work with wii remote ?? I have a bar that has a usb at the end to plug into raspberry pie..
I only have the Dolphin bar, I can't comment on anything I haven't tried or own. Wish I could help more.
I have dolphin bar and wii remote but rpi3
It may work fine, I've only tried it with the Pi 4 though.
hows the cursor and trigger latency?
It's hard to quantify. Anything I write here would likely be inaccurate as I have no good way to provide an actual number nor the physical machine to compare it against. However, it is fun and responsive enough - IMO.
Thank you . Im thinking like Wayne’s world where Wayne and Garth meet Alice cooper .
Love Wayne's world! One of my favorite movies :) Let me know if you need more help/info Rick, I'll do the best I can to assist.
Wagner's TechTalk cool thanks
work in rp 3b+ ?
I only tested it on a Pi4, however it would likely work on a 3b+. How well, I'm not sure.
Is it possible to get rid of the cross hair?
I don't know the game you're referring to, the crosshair is most likely coming from the game itself. If so, then you can check the emulator settings but most likely no.
When I try doing this it doesn't work for me
Hi im french and it doesnt work... i configure input its ok but in mame menu they dont take coin and p1 start and when i try to play i can only move target with dpad :( any help !?
I have mame 0.174
May i link you on facebook or other ?
I documented everything I did here: wagnerstechtalk.com/rpi4gaming/#Light_Gun_Support_with_Mayflash_DolphinBar_Wii_Remote
Are you using the same type of Wii Remote? If not, that could be the problem.
@@WagnersTechTalk check your facebook dm bro
None available in stock
That is totally beyond my control, hopefully they'll restock soon. If I find a new source, I'll update the links. I appreciate your feedback.
Any other compatible sensor bar?
Someone mentioned Amazon is currently sold out, but there are some available on ebay if you're having a hard time finding one. I can't comment on any other sensor bars since I haven't tried them. Not to say others won't work, just that I can only confirm this one does.
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks for the answer, couldn't find in ebay.
Has anybody figured out how to set up two controllers so two people can play at once
From what I understand, two dolphin bars and WiiMotes would be needed.
Can you set this up for 2 player?
Haven't tried it yet, but from what I've read yes.
Hi there! Does this work for Raspberry 3?
Hi Augusto, yes it does.
Good luck finding one. Been looking, all sold out it seems....
@@AaronWonders fyi - I see some on ebay
@@WagnersTechTalk I still can't find one even on eBay 🤔. Says no matches found, then suggests other USB powered bars, but I think I specifically need this model for it's native blutooth ? Thanks for the reply by the way!
Anyone ever try for 2 players using lightgun ?? Needs 2 sensor bars or only one ?
For 2 players, I've heard x2 sensor bars are needed.
@@WagnersTechTalk tried already, but still not work. The crosshair piled up between player 1 and player 2
This is no different then using a mouse. Ugh.
