I think I firgure out why I love watching your clips. They are simple yet peaceful and beautifully recorded. Most of the time you are accompanied by your family members which is often an Asian family tradition but getting rare these days. Whenever I need calmess I watch your videos, without having to think of anything. I watched all of them, probably 3 times each at least. Wish you all the best and dont ever stop, please.
It makes me feel good how, in all these videos, it's clear that there's a useful role for everyone in the family, even if they're old and can't do a lot of the hard work anymore. Her grandfather can't squat down and hunch over to bag up the picked corn, or lift the heavy bags, but he goes through the field to bend the stalks down for pea ladders, saving the laborers of the family that extra work later on. Everyone contributes the best they can and it makes life better for everyone. This is how a community should be!
I grew up on a farm and we lived a truly self sufficient life style. I don't think people realize the hard work that it takes to live like this. I believe it's worth it myself and I am striving to go back to my youth and live that way again

I love the countryside so much! I can see farms with green crops all around. It brings back memories when I was younger and visiting my brother in a remote place where he lived and farmed with his family. You can’t even ride on the road without the corn leaves touching your face. My favorite part of the day was in the morning when the sun was just rising and the surrounding was foggy. Also in the afternoon when it had cooled down and the animals are coming home. It’s so peaceful and satisfying. It was such a pleasure. I’m sure Di’s place is even nicer.

3:18 not sure if anyone notice and curious why there is layer of water around the urn. I googled and learn something new :) The preserved vegetable is fermented in a no air / oxygen environment. Therefore the purpose of it is to avoid the oxygen going into the urn and hence it seals in urn.
Yes! That technic has been used in China a long time ago across the country. There were no freezers and they used the urn to preserve the food for winter.
To prevent the insects,that is why they put water on top..
yes, exactly, it's called water seal. that's how fermented food is made. fermentation is a process of anaerobic metabolism (metabolism without oxygen) - recall what you learnt in high school biology.

Ugh this reminds me so much of my provincial life in the country I was born. Eating with my grandparents after school. Them gathering rice and corn. My grandmother making rice cakes for us. Missing those days. Sadly, my grandparents have gone to heaven.
