LYRICS: CHORUS: Heave lads! Ho lads! Forget the comforts of home; you're a nomad We've lost so much since we first started Are our hearts cold or are we cold-hearted? So pray to your lord or your foreman That the sun might rise in the morning They told us hell was warm But our empire fell for shelter from the storm VERSE 1: On the run from London town Nothing left but rubble there to plunder now Torn asunder, buried underground Beneath the tundra and a hundred weight of brothers drowned Now we're gonna need another crown So huddle round, hunker down, man the shovels, plough And every hundred paces pray and lay another down Another mother, son or lover lost, the frost is out For lonely drifters in the snow drifts, won't be scuppered now Stay devout, tough it out, til the sun is out Trust the censor, shun dissenters, hunt and flush them out Keep the faith and trust there's grace behind the thunderclouds Or fall in line and march in time against the climate, proud What are we becoming now? Is this the life we prayed for? Time is running out There's nothing left but labour We write our future in the ice like it was pen and paper Leave for future generations more than just a generator We must never waver; this is the price we pay for Safety one day for our children on the path we pave them In the end know that history depends On an empire forged in the flames of what we gave up CHORUS: Heave lads! Ho lads! Forget the comforts of home; you're a nomad We've lost so much since we first started Are our hearts cold or are we cold-hearted? So pray to your lord or your foreman That the sun might rise in the morning They told us hell was warm But our empire fell for shelter from the storm VERSE 2: Turn your collars to the wind As our odyssey begins Feel the ice creeping in until your bones sing As the tempest descends and your ears ring That's the bells of the church that we're preaching Now grieving is a luxury we spun to weave our cloaks Comfort, warmth, and plenty feel like centuries ago The storm won't crush our spirits like a tent beneath the snow Every upper lip gets stiff at 20 C below No gold or silver, coal's the only thing of worth to me The only precious metal to our name would be the mercury That fragile strip of burgundy that ever hurtles to the deep Alerting us as Mother Nature's taking every cursed degree I've nothing left, my only treasure is my word to keep Keep bellies filled, treat the ill, and preserve the heat But can I keep the peace as we bleed through adversity? How's a shepherd supposed to lead Without a dog to herd the sheep? These choices that I make, I make to save our nation What's a little sawdust when you face annihilation? Is childhood so sacred? Or just resources wasted? Every value that I thought I had debased and razed to save us CHORUS: Heave lads! Ho lads! Forget the comforts of home; you're a nomad We've lost so much since we first started Are our hearts cold or are we cold-hearted? So pray to your lord or your foreman That the sun might rise in the morning They told us hell was warm But our empire fell for shelter from the storm VERSE 3: Growing up they told no two snowflakes are the same And every one's a wonder, something not to take in vain Of Mother Nature's beauty Of the universe at play Seems she's abstained from duty, left us here and turned away Fingers splintered into kindling and hearts as dark as coal As heat and hope are dwindling we march towards our goal Committed to the hymns we sing so after all is told The generations after us aren't cast into the cold So burn us in the furnace, let our souls ignite the flame Use our bones to stoke the embers Use our blood to oil the chains We are nothing now but engines rending flesh to find a way And as we fall we die to light a brighter day Every shiver will deliver us deliverance in time Burn the incense of our innocence and in a sense we thrive Pray the future that we're building will be worth its weight in lives So take heed but take no pity as the city must survive
I love how the chorus escalates in a subtle way It starts as a survivalist chant simply doing what they have to do And ends as a fervent chorus crying out into the storm
_"So burn us in the furnace, let our souls ignite the flames, use our bones to stoke the embers, use our blood to oil the chains"_ Still such goosebumps, even after all this time, simply magnificent
The old one is a certified classic, but this audio feels so crisp, like I can feel every beat and hear every singer, which is a real upside for me! Great job once again, Stupes!
Anyone notice how the remaster video has the captain's collar scarf actually change color based on which purpose chosen instead of being just gold from the old video.
"Every shiver will deliver us, deliverance in time. Burn the incense of our innocence and in a sense we thrive." These are the exact words that made a fan out of me and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who loves this song so much.
Frostpunk is a truly special game, one that truly confronts you with momentous decisions and forces you to see the outcomes of your choices. Combine that with Stupendium's master craft with lyrics and flow, and you get a real jewel of a song.
My favorite thing about the game is that it's not afraid to make a point at the cost of "fun". I remember in my first playthrough, I really didn't want to pick either Faith or Order because I saw the writing on the wall for both of them (totalitarian theology/utilitarian tyranny), but my citizens needed something, so I had to choose. I remember being frustrated by this choice, but the point of games is to make us feel, even negative emotions like grief or frustration. In hindsight, it was absolutely the right game design decision, and it made me feel more immersed and invested in the story, so I regard it fondly.
Eh, not really about facing your consequences. It stuck to me clearly that one reviewer consigned a child to death at the end of his run, and was told pretty much immediately afterwards that he was a 'good' ruler (not that he ruled well, just that he made what the devs called good decisions throughout his campaign).
I like how you can pretty much avoid doing unethical decisions during the game but making any little mistake can lead to you making those decisions. Like how during the last autumn it’s possible to finish the generator without anyone dying on max difficulty but for me I made enough mistakes that I went to make forced labor camps and still lost the game
The original felt desperate and downtrodden, this one feels more hopeful and almost defiant. Both are fantastic pieces of art, this is a brilliant remaster
Best kind of remaster, updates the original without invalidating the original, just a slight change to the feel makes it both unique and the same. And considering stupes said in another reply this is the same recordings, it just shows how much cleaning can actually change things.
"Burn the incense of our innocence and in a sense we thrive." I've always loved this line. It's not only some amazing wordplay, but it captures the essence of Frostpunk so well.
This song really puts scenarios like this into perspective, specifically the question "why keep going?" and the answer is "so the future generations won't suffer as we did"
I think about this question often. Would it not make more sense to simply give up? And you know, I think I might in such a dire scenario. There is no way to know what you would do for real. But there are more than 7 billion of us. There will be enough mad people to keep the engines on. I hope they save enough Camus books to keep them going to carry the lantern to the next generation. Who will know no better and can hopefully sour up to new heights.
@@vaultboye Or spite. At the end of the day, humans want to live. It's our biological preset and takes obscene amounts of strife to break that overriding Need to live. Take away reasons or goals and a properly spiteful human being will still keep going just to spite God and everything telling them they can't.
@@patchwurk6652 exactly. it's one of the reasons i think we humans are both a beautiful and horrifiying species. A human can turn the smallest glimmer of hope. And the spite for fate and the already recognized outcome can turn even the bleak ashes that once were hope into a firestorm. There is nothing more beautiful and terrible then human persistence.
@@rudelwolf1591 This is exactly the reason that war is so horrifying. Each side wants nothing more than to survive, and in the modern day the methods used to keep your country together would be traumatizing for anybody
"The wheels of progress frozen, motionless..." Oh wait, wrong Frostpunk song. This song was already so well put together. A great showcase of a helluva lot of talent.
Yes. Order vs faith. in that Song I was more on the faith Side even though I think order is better in game just because the Stupendium did such a good job. I know it's Not the song but I Just wanted to say that^^
I always preferred faith. Seemed more humane, Plus the game started to feel too much like a concentration camp or a gulag sim for me when playing order.
@@STDRACO777 Well I Just Like the aestatic in black and Red of Order more. And I think the flag hanging everywhere are beautiful. And I like the buffs more. More efficienty just makes me happy^^
"So burn us in the furnace, Let our souls ignite the flames Use our bones to stoke the embers Use our blood to oil the chains We are nothing now but engines Rending flesh to find a way And as we fall, we know we die, To light a brighter day" That is some fucking heavy shit. While I love Stupes' content in general, this is _still_ my favorite bit that they've written and performed. The idea of a frostbitten world where the utter dedication to survival is necessary in order to facilitate the next generations survival is all at once horrifying, heartbreaking, and in a weird way, very empowering. Good shit, yo.
Sorry for the late reponse but this isn't strange at all, at the heart of these lines is a philosophy that's been central to the growth of society for centuries somed up by this quote "A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit". To suffer and sacrifice in the name of future generations has always stoked the hearts of good men.
I know the end of the intro is probably supposed to be "Now go, earn your bread" But I always hear "Now go, burn your friends" Which honestly still fits.
I Trully believe that frostpunk helped me stay alive. Last few years, especially with the current state of the world and that funky little sickness going around, combined with the joys of the modern political and ecenomic landscape, ive felt very little hope for the future and resentment for those who came before me. thats when i found the stupendium, and his origional Frostpunk song. And my god, it was like a breath of fresh air. The worldbuilding and the sheer resilience of human character it displayed got me directly into the games, and since then ive been thinking back to its core messages and beliefs to get me through some of my darkest moments. It reminds me that this is what humans do. We adapt. We change. We strive to be a bit better than yesterday for those who come after us, and we have been doing it since before we were even human. And something that helps me remember that belief, is from your song. It is our duty to leave the future generation more than just a generator, and whilst i doubt that il be building a walking mechanical automiton to handle coal mining for my kids in an ice bound apocalypse, that line has helped me leave the world a little bit better than it was yesterday. I doubt this will actually be read mate, but i want you to know that despite how preechy and over the top this comment may sound, i mean every word of it, and you deserve to know that your content is making the world a little better than it was yesterday. Keep it up mate, You rock. Try not to get frostbite.
It took me way way too long to put together that the line "The only precious metal to our name would be the mercury, that fragile strip of burgundy that ever hurtles to the deep" Was talking about a thermometer
It's top-tier lyricry. Layer upon layer of meaning. Mercury is a metal that is liquid at room temperature, of which is often used in thermometers. Burgandy is the distinct red colour of the thin liquid pillar within thermometers that rises or falls with the temperature.
To echo what I've seen a bunch of people say: this is awesome and I love the original as well. One thing I haven't seen posted: the more professional mixing and harmonies on the remaster makes it feel far more professional, shows your growth as a musician and I think is all the better for the song. Something that I think was lost though, is a certain marching song aspect to the original. It felt like something I could see the New Londoners singing as they mined for coal. The lack of strong harmonies gave it the impression of enthusiastic amateurs (which, based on your comments in the description I think reflect you at the time :D ). Overall I do think the changes have shown your growth and are all the better for the song, but I think its important to note what was lost along the way. Just in case it isn't clear, I'm a huge fan and have been since the JT music Fact Rap.
When you put it that way, this sounds like a sequel. Like this was sung after the storm, after the same band of survivors have been hardened and attuned to working together for their very survival It’s the same tune and rhythm, but still different in a little way. Smoother, the working parts fitted more cleanly. In other words similar to how the new mix has made it all much cleaner and more professional at the cost of some of the feels of the old one
@@error-datalost7586 I like that idea. Like a song that was written during the difficult times, but is now sung after the story is finished, looking back on the giants who's shoulders on which you now stand. I definitely second the idea that something is missing from this version, I love the fuller feeling, but I do miss the solid beat. Definitely still a good version though. Hard pressed to decide which one to be my goto loop haha.
"Pray the future that we're building will be worth its weight in lives So take heed but take no pity as the city must survive" This line and the verse really shows how the people of this world have a near fanatical devotion to survival and how the stupendium have caught that feeling and bottled it into lyrics.
3:29 beginning of a frostpunk movie with the filming of the engine on screen before it cuts to the main character who experiences the horrors of the frostland surviving in the harsh world and through all it has to offer before changing it for the better in a new found bravery against the tyranny of the captain
I've been listening to this song for the last 10 days because it's how I discovered stupendium, AND NOW I GET A REMASTER OF MY FAVORITE SONG???? This man deserves all of the praise
This song gives me the "chills" (No pun intended) and I love every line of it. Listening to this masterpiece makes me want to replay Frostpunk on Hardest difficulty once again.
"Use our blood to oil the chains!" I'm literally in tears. This is so emotionally charged, it's amazing. Sure, I know it's based on a video game, but still, the defiant will of dying men to survive the impossible cold that scorches and spells the end of all civilization... goddamn, and then the chorus comes in and I feel like chanting along
Another of my favorite lines is, "Pray the future we are building will be worth its weight in lives." Like sure, y'all base your weight on gold, I am going to forge a nation from my blood, bones, and soul worth it's weight in priceless possibilities
"So take heed but take no pity as the city must survive" sums up the feel of the game so well. This is the song that made me find the channel and realize how good this dude is with his lyrics and at encapsulating the world he is talking about making it possible to see it even if i know nothing about it.
I always write my stories and campaigns while listening to music, and without a doubt this song and “A Purpose for New London” broke the rust off the bolts more than once when I got stuck. Thanks Stupes for giving us solid hit after hit!
I've really enjoyed the old version and had the chorus in my head as soon as I read the title. Even though it's the same song both have a very different feeling with some of the changes in instruments and added back vocals. I felt torn at the beginning but with the final buildup and crashing down greatness, it won me over completely. But the original version will always have a place in my heart and playlist :D Glad to have found you through Harry and your work back then!
When I do playthroughs I always go the path of order. Who needs hope or contentment when you have ORDER? Everyone pulls their weight and does what they're told, but in return I do not lead my people astray and by the end not a single person has to work and children remain home safe and warm along with their parents. I create eternal empires, and while I create them with an iron fist I care with gentle hands and open arms.
Honestly I only really main faith cause becoming basically Jesus sounds cool...also having faith early game really helps with all the ways to earn hope and lower discontent
Agreed, Order is what we need in these trying times, hope is not the force that will bring us out of this frozen hell! But our bitter resolve, work or die lads! We must put more effort, show the great enemy, the whiteout and hand it's first loss! Humanity will not die here!
But without faith what are we? What is our purpose? Why are we here? To work and die? What kind of life is that? If we don't have faith then we are nothing but slaves. Not too mention look at history, tell me what has happened to EVERY civilization run on order? Ill tell you what happened THEY. COLLAPSED. Cracking down on the rights of citizens will only lead to one thing: revolt. With faith we can keep the people happy and make them feel like their worth something, and if they feel their worth something then they will work hard to achieve a good afterlife. ALL PRAISE THE CAPTAIN AND ALL PRAISE GOD!!!
Both of your Frostpunk songs really touched me in a way that it sparked a large curiosity in me and I played Frostpunk because I couldn't get the songs out of my head and I loved the aesthetic and the world. I just want to thank you for introducing me to a game I probably never would have found otherwise and I hope Stupes is as excited as I am to see what Frostpunk 2 has in store and hopefully it inspires him to re-visit this world again. Thanks everyone!
I don't think anyone but Stupendium can make a song that you can just nonstop vibe through from start to finish, just holding nothing back, never a fraction of a dull moment. Mans just built different.
wow was not expecting a remaster today, of all things! in the height of summer, another ice-cold refresher from my favorite musician. banger do-over of a game i've been interested in for ages, thank you 👍
Its in keeping with the spirit of the first frostpunk rap. To quote his first video: "I picked the hottest day of the year to film a video about scarves and coats"
Damn, the original was the song that made me a fan, and you’re turning it up even further. This is beautiful-is especially like the redone lighting on the “town hall” portions. Funny how such a small thing can do so much for the atmosphere!
Pretty sure Stupendium's talent and ability are actually boundless. Thanks for the powerful music. Emotionally moving and the complexity of the wordplay is phenomenal.
Quite excited to see the one truly terrifying Stupendium song get a remaster. Already had a listen to the song and it's so neat! Beefy chorus go brrr! Also making the scarf match the environment instead of it being yellow all throughout is such a nice touch! That's why I'm absolutely a sucker for the Stupendium remasters. The little invisible VFX that make the world of difference and tickle my brain quite a bit.
Oh the new backing beat is *fantastic*. This is a really good remaster - the original was stupendous, but this is just phenomenal. Excellent job, Stupes! Oh and you *somehow* managed to make the "burn us in the furnace" segment even more chilling. Incredible.
Heh, _chilling_ And in all honesty I agree. To me the "Burn us in the furnace" part hits even harder than the original (not that I don't like the old one both are good) and the chorus feels more desperate than the original and all of the song just felt colder in general. I wish to say more about this song but The Stupendium's videos just have me speechless looking for words worthy enough to describe this song.
@@TelevisionNTheatre thanks! I'd say the "burn us in the furnace" part hits harder because I created more contract between that and the previous line... the instrumentation is more upfront so you can feel the energy better and I did a little editing on that beat leading into it, as well as some other minor changes.
@@TelevisionNTheatre Ok actually, there is one criticism I have of the remaster - while the autotune makes the music *strictly speaking better* with harmonization, I think the symbology of the chorus just being baritone voices actually worked a little better for the themes of the song. *Having said that* it's still absolutely incredible other than that tiny niggle.
@@OxygenBeats Also you did a phenomenal job with the backing track, it's legitimately incredible here. Very evocative of the emotions the song wants to create.
This song is phenomenal, the chorus is rousing and stoic, the final verse is both stirring and heart-wrenching, but I can't get over just a few lines. "Every shiver will deliver us deliverance in time, burn the incense of our innocence and in a sense, we thrive." Just... perfect wordplay and meaning. So, so well done, Stupendium. I can't stop coming back to this song.
This is amazing! With Frostpunk 2 on its way and the fandom starting great projects (The Frostpunk MC mod, and Frost Voyage: A Frostpunk tale) this will surely bring more people into, or back into the game Thank you for a remaster of such a amazing song!
I've honestly never stopped being impressed by the amount of emotion you put into every song. From the beautiful lyrics to the heart wrenching chorus. This channel has always exceeds itself!
Hey Stupendium I have to thank you for coming out with these tunes. The year hadn't been kind to me and even in my grief the lyrics from this frostpunk was a reflection. You know I know it's something small, unintended on your part. Life can be a slog and things can pile up on you and wear ya down. You and whoever helps have the talent . Things will always change sometimes for the better. It isn't as extreme as the song but the passion is the same. Cheers mate. You'll never know everyone who views your videos Stupendium. When the hard times come your way know you likely managed to put into words the view of another. Ya I know it's all in fun and stuff. Thanks for the kindness anyways, made the year a lil easier on me. Look after yourself and have a good new year.
Listening to this after Ark and The Tinderbox reframes it as a prologue to a disaster. It makes this grim song about the determination of the human spirit feel naive, somehow. Which is a testament to both songs tbf!
The lines you make are absolute gold. All the verses of your songs are song themselves. The way you pace is absolutely smooth and deep; you really dive into the topic and make beatiful armonies.
its almost depressing how little exposure you have for how amazingly skilled you are. you make some things I legit would classify for art like AD INFINITUM the visuals, music and sensory overload are all perfect.
Burn the incense of our innocence and in a sense we thrive that line gets me every time. This is the first song I ever heard from this Chanel, amazing work, love the remaster.
My toddler has lived this song literally since he first learned to express joy as a baby. He would try to bake along, and now that he has more words he still tries to song every time and is also enraptured with the visuals. It's nice that when I get tired of nursery rhymes I can put on this song and he actually says thank you! At 2 years old lol
been listening to this on repeat, the line "so pray to your lord or your foreman, that the sun might rise in the morning" messes me up every time it's so good
Honestly i preffer the original, the autotune isnt making it for me, but im still happy to being able to enjoy another work of yours and to enjoy this song in a different way, keep it up ^^ Edit: Wholesome fan base quarters here! XD, i love to see theres still people who can express that they dont fully like something but still being supportive with the creator, the internet is not fully doomed yet
Same here honestly. the autotune is great and the harmonizing but the choir of baritone men singing in lyrical harmony speaks the story of the game more and the lyrics gives more impact.
I have the same opinion, emphasis on lower voice register and more distinct voices in the original just work better for me. That said, background mixing seems to have improved, I liked the slight silencing at the beginning of "Every upper lip gets stiff..." bit, and in the second half of last verse you can really hear the desperation in the instrumentals. Edit: I've listened again, this time in headphones with surround sound, and holy cow does it hit! I'm still not convinced about new chorus, but the harmonies and more pronounced background give the song a really "punchy" and emotional quality. It's quite epic, actually, and would be a treat to listen to even without the vocals imho.
Sweet lord and about the harmonies! THE HARMONIES!!! T HE H A R M O N I E S!!!!! The lyrics are also so much clearer now, I could actually hear the individual words. The timing is so much better and so much more rhythmic, it has that restraint that shows so much more control of your voice and the beat. That percussion is so much more powerful with that ostinato on the strings truly shining on the background, rather than just a wall of sound that has a melody somewhere in there. This song has always been one of my favorites, but also highly inaccesible for me, so many sounds, so many stimulation from EVERYWHERE and it all blurred together. I enjoyed *a lot* the original, but this one? I'm F E E L I N G it!!! Also right after the intro at 0:34??? That silence and then that inverted chord???? That's like the best thing ever??????? akjfhnakdgnkrasfdn this is so, so, so much more epic. Also the chorus at 3:19, gimme more o'dem VOWELS! I literally have exactly zero criticism, absolutely nothing. Is this the level of your vision? You never cease to amaze me with the sheer level of quality of your tracks. The mastering and harmonies of this song is now entire MAGNITUDES above what the original could've ever achieved.
THANK YOU! This song is a really good song and very impactful... it had so much unleashed potential and I worked hard to bring it out and I'm happy it's noticed/appreciated!
"They told us hell was warm, but our empire fell for shelter from the storm." I think that line is why I love frostpunk so much, it takes what I usually think about the apocalypse and completely changes it.
The last version felt like a somber worker's song they would sing while working to build this city. This version feels like an energetic anthem that they would later sing to honor the ancestors who built the city. I don't know if this is intentional but if it is you're a genius.
Oh this song, love it, I remember listening to the old version on cold winter days. Temperature in my room equally as cold as the outside (I like cold) and just that ice cracking at the beginning always sends a nice shiver down my spine. So seeing this song remastered is just so nice.
I've gotta say, I adore the whole song, but the lyrics from 3:08 - 3:51 has to be my favorite lyrical piece ever. It feels so epic and uplifting and is the definition of lyrical perfection.
I prefer the original more, its more rustic sounding vocals and quieter instrumentals but I suppose this remaster will allow new viewers discover this great song, so it's nice
I would echo my fellows sentiment here. This is very lovely, crisp but it does not fit the theme as well as the original does. It genuinely makes a shiver run down my spine on how the original sounds. Like you can feel you are right next to the poor sods shovelling coal for the endless hunger of the furnace just to carve out that tiny bit of heat.
This was the first song I ever heard from you, I came across it on Spotify years before I started listening to your channel but when I started listening to your other stuff imagine how surprised I was when I found out I was already a fan. I'm so glad it's getting a remaster and I really cannot wait to see what else you have in store for the future
This was one of my favorites when I first discovered your channel! I think the original was good the way it was, however I do notice the subtle differences in the sound mixing (basically the vocals and beats, idk it that's what you'd call it, I'm no tech expert) and they do add a lot!
Shelter From the Storm was the first Stupendium song I heard, so it'll always hold a special place in my heart. This remaster feels how listening to the original felt for the first time; the new harmonies and ramped up bass and instrumental changes make it feel like its own song entirely!
Best music you made in my idea. The chorus gives such power and the lyrics let out so much about how they have to fight the odds to survive and thrive.
When you began remastering songs i had hopes you would do this one someday, and that day has finally come! Thank you for finally coming around and doing it!
You should watch the original if you haven't already, It has its own rustic and natural feel to it that makes it very unique and different to the remastered version in my opinion.
After this remaster and dumping a good 200 hours into frostpunk, i cant help but notice things like some of the fx in the background are directly from the thawing and freezing sounds, love it!
That's a hell of a remaster. Nicely done! It's great to see these older tracks getting some polish in the light of a few more years of experience, really brings out the best in them.
Hey Stupes, I just want to say I've become a huge fan of you over the last year or so and I have absolutely love every song I've listened to. This song in particular hit me so deep I actually had to go and buy the game because I NEEDED to play the game that inspired such a master piece. Amazing work.
I've always wondered how one of the remasters would be if I liked the original before the remaster and I just got to say, you made a masterpiece of a song into something even greater and I love it
At first, I was like, "This is one of my favorite songs, and this remaster seems super similar! I wonder why Stupes thought it needed a touchup?" Then the beat dropped. I must once again applaud your sheer skill! This is so incredible I can't even imagine going back to the original.
I feel like it needs to be said, but the world Frostpunk presents is genuinely terrifying. Everything we know pretty much depends on the sun's heat. Losing that is an absolute death sentence, surviving is nothing more than a delay of the end, and this game truly emphasises that feeling of utter despair and hopelessness.
Ah, the song that brought me to your channel! I loved the original, but this blows that out of the water, the mechanic beat, the backing vocals, the visuals it's all just perfect! It's an honor to see how much you've grown as an artist in that time, and I can't wait to see where your journey takes you next!
I had not heard the original, so this bright and new to me. It honestly gave me shivers, and not because of the snow. You have a way with words, and a capacity to capture the spirit and essence of the subject, which i truly admire. It's inspiring
This remaster is a good icebreaker for the new viewers of The Stupendium. Truly masterpieces of coal and mercury awaits you on this channel. So lads come and warm yourselves on this fire and watch how this awesome journey of this channel continues.
The Stupendium is the most grossly under viewed, under subscribed, under recognized talent on youtube, I swear. This content here puts the entire standard music industrial monstrosity to shame and full on display in each song and video is the true heart of music, in lyric, in rhythm, in melody, and in soul. Keep on Stupendium. A bright flame in a coldhearted world (industry), indeed.
LYRICS:
CHORUS:
Heave lads! Ho lads!
Forget the comforts of home; you're a nomad
We've lost so much since we first started
Are our hearts cold or are we cold-hearted?
So pray to your lord or your foreman
That the sun might rise in the morning
They told us hell was warm
But our empire fell for shelter from the storm
VERSE 1:
On the run from London town
Nothing left but rubble there to plunder now
Torn asunder, buried underground
Beneath the tundra and a hundred weight of brothers drowned
Now we're gonna need another crown
So huddle round, hunker down, man the shovels, plough
And every hundred paces pray and lay another down
Another mother, son or lover lost, the frost is out
For lonely drifters in the snow drifts, won't be scuppered now
Stay devout, tough it out, til the sun is out
Trust the censor, shun dissenters, hunt and flush them out
Keep the faith and trust there's grace behind the thunderclouds
Or fall in line and march in time against the climate, proud
What are we becoming now?
Is this the life we prayed for?
Time is running out
There's nothing left but labour
We write our future in the ice like it was pen and paper
Leave for future generations more than just a generator
We must never waver; this is the price we pay for
Safety one day for our children on the path we pave them
In the end know that history depends
On an empire forged in the flames of what we gave up
CHORUS:
Heave lads! Ho lads!
Forget the comforts of home; you're a nomad
We've lost so much since we first started
Are our hearts cold or are we cold-hearted?
So pray to your lord or your foreman
That the sun might rise in the morning
They told us hell was warm
But our empire fell for shelter from the storm
VERSE 2:
Turn your collars to the wind
As our odyssey begins
Feel the ice creeping in until your bones sing
As the tempest descends and your ears ring
That's the bells of the church that we're preaching
Now grieving is a luxury we spun to weave our cloaks
Comfort, warmth, and plenty feel like centuries ago
The storm won't crush our spirits like a tent beneath the snow
Every upper lip gets stiff at 20 C below
No gold or silver, coal's the only thing of worth to me
The only precious metal to our name would be the mercury
That fragile strip of burgundy that ever hurtles to the deep
Alerting us as Mother Nature's taking every cursed degree
I've nothing left, my only treasure is my word to keep
Keep bellies filled, treat the ill, and preserve the heat
But can I keep the peace as we bleed through adversity?
How's a shepherd supposed to lead
Without a dog to herd the sheep?
These choices that I make, I make to save our nation
What's a little sawdust when you face annihilation?
Is childhood so sacred? Or just resources wasted?
Every value that I thought I had debased and razed to save us
CHORUS:
Heave lads! Ho lads!
Forget the comforts of home; you're a nomad
We've lost so much since we first started
Are our hearts cold or are we cold-hearted?
So pray to your lord or your foreman
That the sun might rise in the morning
They told us hell was warm
But our empire fell for shelter from the storm
VERSE 3:
Growing up they told no two snowflakes are the same
And every one's a wonder, something not to take in vain
Of Mother Nature's beauty
Of the universe at play
Seems she's abstained from duty, left us here and turned away
Fingers splintered into kindling and hearts as dark as coal
As heat and hope are dwindling we march towards our goal
Committed to the hymns we sing so after all is told
The generations after us aren't cast into the cold
So burn us in the furnace, let our souls ignite the flame
Use our bones to stoke the embers
Use our blood to oil the chains
We are nothing now but engines rending flesh to find a way
And as we fall we die to light a brighter day
Every shiver will deliver us deliverance in time
Burn the incense of our innocence and in a sense we thrive
Pray the future that we're building will be worth its weight in lives
So take heed but take no pity as the city must survive
First
Let's goooooo
Third
YOOO LETS GOOOO, one of the best ones :D

I love how the chorus escalates in a subtle way
It starts as a survivalist chant simply doing what they have to do
And ends as a fervent chorus crying out into the storm
New London rejected death. They REFUSED IT.
And yet, they fall all the same.
_"So burn us in the furnace, let our souls ignite the flames, use our bones to stoke the embers, use our blood to oil the chains"_ Still such goosebumps, even after all this time, simply magnificent

It's also a rather unique apocalypse. Most apocs in movies, games TV shows, are nuclear or zombie. Few go down the route of frozen hellscape
The original felt desperate and downtrodden, this one feels more hopeful and almost defiant. Both are fantastic pieces of art, this is a brilliant remaster
This is just half life
Best kind of remaster, updates the original without invalidating the original, just a slight change to the feel makes it both unique and the same. And considering stupes said in another reply this is the same recordings, it just shows how much cleaning can actually change things.

“ hear me! Practical burials are now in effect! It’s nope it has been provided! And if you are going to die, preferably die in the snow!”
Sorry for the late reponse but this isn't strange at all, at the heart of these lines is a philosophy that's been central to the growth of society for centuries somed up by this quote "A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit".

Like this was sung after the storm, after the same band of survivors have been hardened and attuned to working together for their very survival
It’s the same tune and rhythm, but still different in a little way.

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
This song gives me the "chills" (No pun intended) and I love every line of it. Listening to this masterpiece makes me want to replay Frostpunk on Hardest difficulty once again.
"Use our blood to oil the chains!"
I'm literally in tears. This is so emotionally charged, it's amazing. Sure, I know it's based on a video game, but still, the defiant will of dying men to survive the impossible cold that scorches and spells the end of all civilization... goddamn, and then the chorus comes in and I feel like chanting along
Another of my favorite lines is, "Pray the future we are building will be worth its weight in lives."
Like sure, y'all base your weight on gold, I am going to forge a nation from my blood, bones, and soul worth it's weight in priceless possibilities
But the original version will always have a place in my heart and playlist :D
Glad to have found you through Harry and your work back then!
The world might've frozen over, but this track keeps the furnace going
Both of your Frostpunk songs really touched me in a way that it sparked a large curiosity in me and I played Frostpunk because I couldn't get the songs out of my head and I loved the aesthetic and the world. Oh and you *somehow* managed to make the "burn us in the furnace" segment even more chilling. Incredible.
Heh, _chilling_
And in all honesty I agree.

Edit: Wholesome fan base quarters here!
Personally not the biggest fan of the auto tune, but the song is good regardless, and prefer the original here, but hey, song is still great!
personally same, it feels to hear it more better vvith the original no auto tune. It fits the song and its theme, but yeah its more clean i suppose
I agree, but it's nice to hear this again in a new way
I have the same opinion, emphasis on lower voice register and more distinct voices in the original just work better for me.
THANK YOU! This song is a really good song and very impactful... it had so much unleashed potential and I worked hard to bring it out and I'm happy it's noticed/appreciated!
if "A Purpose for New London" was the story of the people in power, then "Shelter from the Storm" is the story of the workers.
"They told us hell was warm, but our empire fell for shelter from the storm." I think that line is why I love frostpunk so much, it takes what I usually think about the apocalypse and completely changes it.
This was such a god tier classic of your raps! Please I’m begging and praying on my knees that you make another when frostpunk 2 comes out!
Stupendium has done it again. He may be cold but his rap montage is on fire. Keep lightening up!
I've gotta say, I adore the whole song, but the lyrics from 3:08 - 3:51 has to be my favorite lyrical piece ever. It feels so epic and uplifting and is the definition of lyrical perfection.

Will the storm go away?"

It genuinely makes a shiver run down my spine on how the original sounds. Like you can feel you are right next to the poor sods shovelling coal for the endless hunger of the furnace just to carve out that tiny bit of heat.
I've never heard the original song, but this version is amazing.
This was the first song I ever heard from you, I came across it on Spotify years before I started listening to your channel but when I started listening to your other stuff imagine how surprised I was when I found out I was already a fan.
I'm so glad it's getting a remaster and I really cannot wait to see what else you have in store for the future
Nothing like playing ur first few games only to die by like the third week like "please...don't leave guys I'm trying my best"
"Every upper lip gets stiff at 20 C below".
God, I love that line.
God I love this song so much...Years later and I still keep listening it
Final verse is definitely the biggest improvement. I feel like a cut between this and the first version would be the best of both worlds.
Great stuff!
Through the storm and snowflakes,
Though we shiver and shake,
Stupes keeps our hearts bright with the music he makes!
Incredible work man!
This song so fire you can huddle around it for warmth
When you began remastering songs i had hopes you would do this one someday, and that day has finally come!
Thank you for finally coming around and doing it!
Never watched the original but this a certified bop. Thanks stupes
You should watch the original if you haven't already, It has its own rustic and natural feel to it that makes it very unique and different to the remastered version in my opinion.
HOW. How? How?!?! Did you know I just descended in to my The Terror kick?! This is madness!
I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS ON REPEAT FOR AGES AND IM NOW BEING HANDED A REMASTER? I will do a little dance to celebrate
Scranning this up I see vex
This is itchin my brain cells

I feel this one resonates to the core. We all feel, we all want more. You are an incredible story teller and artist.
"And in the end know that histroy depends on an Empire forged in the flames of what we Gave Up."
Bloody hell thats a powerful line.
I never thought that this song could be even better. But you did it.
Love your songs!
This is one of the first songs I remember listening from you, and to see it get a remaster treatment brings back memories! Amazing work!!
ah yes, this song :]
it started my stupendium binge watch when it came out last year, and you have continued to be one of my favorite artists since.
Hey Stupes, I just want to say I've become a huge fan of you over the last year or so and I have absolutely love every song I've listened to. This song in particular hit me so deep I actually had to go and buy the game because I NEEDED to play the game that inspired such a master piece. Amazing work.
The opening tune of this song always gives me chills. It's just so damn good.Amazing work, stupes! ❄🧡
The original one was a classic and all, but this one is going in my playlist
I've always wondered how one of the remasters would be if I liked the original before the remaster and I just got to say, you made a masterpiece of a song into something even greater and I love it
♥♥♥
It's Winter where i am, very thematically appropriate! The original one is one of my favorites of yours, and this one is a wonderful remaster of it!
At first, I was like, "This is one of my favorite songs, and this remaster seems super similar! I wonder why Stupes thought it needed a touchup?"
Then the beat dropped.
Bro why are so many lines in this so hard, even a small simple ones like “every upper lip is stiff at 20C below” just hits
