How did this happen? This was such an obscure NES game. Where in the world did this incredible orchestral version come from? And where the hell did Vurez get the idea for such an epic retelling of this game's tale?

Actually, this was quite popular in Japan and East Asia in general. A couple reboots and sequels were made.
This was a huge arcade hit before it was an obscure NES game....
The 8-bit audio on this was actually quite amazing in what it conveyed in such a limited audio format.
The Arcade game got ports to many other systems than the NES
those who have played this game will understand epicness of this music :)

This was suggested after AVGN's recent episode on this game.
Now I understand what the developers intended when they created this game. Because of the limitations of the NES, the music fell short of the mark. This story, told in Eastern tradition could probably make an epic movie, with the right budget, actors, and fx.
In all fairness, they did not push the NES to its fullest with the game. The NES's soundchip is capable of so much more, as evidenced by Journey To Silius on the NES. Then again, it was an early title for the NES, hard to expect technical mastery of what was then a new platform

Man I used to play this game all the time. Music engrained in me, as it looped, but not THAT engrained as I was busy cursing over the firespitting enemies jumping in from out of nowhere and all the unfair deaths. Kudos; great mix.
You can have your Legend of Zeldas, Metroids, Mega Mans, and Mario 3s. THIS is the best NES game, right here.

Such an underrated game. I didn't know it until I saw this video, and it's better than any Nintendo 8 bits francise. It's light years away from what they had back there in the 80's.

When I heard this music back when I was 5, it never came out of my head. I still know the run/playthrough fom the back of my head. The music timing, I would chant this whenever I'm in a hurry; be it going to the toilet or something else. This and Adventure Island 4 will forever be in my heart and mind.

You have no idea how much this game influenced me as a kid and as a girl...!! Mainly because I thought the protaganist was a girl rescuing a princess, mainly because of the ponytail and the mini skirt ( or at least that's what I thought it was). It sincerely made me believe girls can be awesome martial heroes too.
