That owner is handling his reactive dog very well. He has a grip on him, he’s moving his dog away, he isn’t allowing contact, and most importantly he remains calm and collected, showing the dog there is no danger, threat, or reason to be this way.

He is handling his reactive dog well. He’s continuing to hold back the dog, tell it no, and moving along all while remaining calm and in control. 👏🏼 people forget dogs are still instinctive, and though they do not possess the same wild nature as cats, and though we have “domesticated” them, they are still a great deal wild.
To be honest, I have a large german shepherd. All these people are saying dont use a harness, you have no control. Well my dog used to wear normal leashes he has loose skin on the neck and i felt like he was much more capable of sliping out with a regular leash with his harness he is secure and i have control of his whole torso if i need to pull him back rather then have him try to shake his neck around and slip out. I have done both the harness has worked better for me, but because my dog is reactive, he also wears a mask on walks, and we keep our space from others on walks.
I'd strongly recommend a nylon choke collar, also known as a slip or show collar. They hang lose when they are not on lead, it doesn't break their hair. Your dog should be trained to heal, they'll never choke themselves if they are well trained. Another nice thing is the collar is practically invisible when they are wearing it. Be cautious though, the collar should just BARELY fit over their head, if it's too loose, they will step through it and get a leg trapped in the collar. If you're in a rural area where you dog roams the woods, I'd also be cautious because it can be stuck on a branch. I do not like harnesses at all. For me, a collar is nothing more than a safety measure, for the dog, not other people. It has tags and I hook a leash to it, but my dogs are not allowed to pull and if takes me 4 hours to walk a dog a mile, forcing them to heel before I go forward, I will do it and I have done it.
Our German Shepard was so sweet that when he would catch a bird he was chasing he would just press his nose into the bird instead of bite it. When he accidentally bit your hand a little in play (when I was holding and wrestling a stick with him) he would immediately back down and start licking my hand. He never hurt a fly. And would intervene when our cats where fighting or misbehaving.
