When your dog is walking next to you with slack in the leash praise and say good dog! Dogs like positive reinforcement so a treat may help. They can sense your frustration and anger, it's called dumping down the leash. Stay calm and take charge.
If all else fails, get a training collar. GSDs are very smart and sensitive. You want your dog to respect you not fear you... You're the pack leader... Good luck!

He is handling his reactive dog well. He’s continuing to hold back the dog, tell it no, and moving along all while remaining calm and in control. 👏🏼 people forget dogs are still instinctive, and though they do not possess the same wild nature as cats, and though we have “domesticated” them, they are still a great deal wild.

To be honest, I have a large german shepherd. All these people are saying dont use a harness, you have no control. Well my dog used to wear normal leashes he has loose skin on the neck and i felt like he was much more capable of sliping out with a regular leash with his harness he is secure and i have control of his whole torso if i need to pull him back rather then have him try to shake his neck around and slip out. I have done both the harness has worked better for me, but because my dog is reactive, he also wears a mask on walks, and we keep our space from others on walks.

    • @fuzzywzhe
      @fuzzywzhe Месяц назад

I'd strongly recommend a nylon choke collar, also known as a slip or show collar. They hang lose when they are not on lead, it doesn't break their hair. Your dog should be trained to heal, they'll never choke themselves if they are well trained.
Another nice thing is the collar is practically invisible when they are wearing it.
Be cautious though, the collar should just BARELY fit over their head, if it's too loose, they will step through it and get a leg trapped in the collar. If you're in a rural area where you dog roams the woods, I'd also be cautious because it can be stuck on a branch.
I do not like harnesses at all. For me, a collar is nothing more than a safety measure, for the dog, not other people. It has tags and I hook a leash to it, but my dogs are not allowed to pull and if takes me 4 hours to walk a dog a mile, forcing them to heel before I go forward, I will do it and I have done it.

Our German Shepard was so sweet that when he would catch a bird he was chasing he would just press his nose into the bird instead of bite it. When he accidentally bit your hand a little in play (when I was holding and wrestling a stick with him) he would immediately back down and start licking my hand.
He never hurt a fly. And would intervene when our cats where fighting or misbehaving.

Hey education moment for anyone scrolling down here! This gsd is likely displaying something called fear aggression or barrier/leash aggression. You can tell because its making a big show and is refusing to turn its back towards the other dog.
To those saying "just train it!!" Or saying this person is a bad owner with the context of just this singular clip:
-Proper Behavioral modification can take time. You have to address the underlying emotional cause and not just slap a prong on it and correct it til it gives up.
-this behavior can be caused by poor socialization, a traumatic event (such as being attacked by another dog), and/or poor breeding practices. German shepherds are notoriously sensitive dogs.
-yes, this owner COULD be bad. We don't know. Or he could've gotten the dog from someone else and not know how to handle its reactions. Maybe he does work with the dog and was forced to cross paths with OP.
I have a gsd that behaves similarly to this. You cannot force or stop them from reacting once they already start. Thats like trying to slap someone out of a panic attack lol. The best thing you can do is move past asap or hold tight while the other person moves past. My dog came to me middle-aged, had multiple previous homes, and displayed this behavior since adoption. Massive improvements were made but reactions do happen sometimes.
In addition, i do think This dog should definitely be muzzle trained if they have to frequent tight trails like this. It would still be the owner's fault if it bit someone. Just don't go blaming the owner for the behavior it's displaying in a very short clip

Complete lack of control. You need to get that dog to someone that can control it. It AIN'T YOU!!!

This guy is going to meet the wrong person that will beat his ass, then save his dog with a loving home and care and happiness.

There must be a reason that this German Shepherd is acting this way. I have had six in my lifetime and they were only aggressive when there was a reason other than that they were extremely sweet. If a stranger came to my front door this is how they would act... because I didn't want strangers around my house❗

My dog who is a lot smaller but also a mix of German Shepherd. Does this like any other dog? He’s not very social, but like if a dog to be aggressive with my dog, he’s going to tag even though he’s very small.
