    Very interesting video. You covered such a lot of things and seem to be on top of most of them. It always takes a bit of time to transition to a new leisure vehicle, whether it’s a caravan or motorhome we always think it’s 6 months or so before it feels completely normal. The Kontiki looks very comfortable indeed and Sue is going to lock the bank account away I think or I may be tempted 😉😂👍🏻🚐 See you both very soon 💙 Trev

    HI. Luv the vlogs. We have a 2022 784. 1) the locking is annoying but I’ve just got used to opening the cab door as well as the hab door to disarm the “feature”. 2) I bought the VB air suspension. What to say. It’s a lot of money and hard to justify but the ride is better, the levelling is pretty good for most sites and it gives a bit of ground clearance which can be close on the fresh water outlet. 3) I just bought a DAB radio. The 20 mins turn off super annoying.
    Anyway overall we still are discovering what we like and also how best to store stuff but very happy.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the information. There does not seem to be a way of overcoming the auto locking when stationary 'feature'. Interesting what you say about ground clearance. I thought the fresh water tank was quite close to the ground as well.

    😂I put cot covers on our MH seats which I got from ASDA. The covers are elasticated so fit the base seat perfectly. I also cover the back rest, but as these are not as wide as the base you have to wrap it around a bit more (hope that makes sense!). Also if you spill any liquid on the seat it does not seep through. Happy motoring

    Hi, we have the same Swifty’s Kontiki lounge as yourselves, I bought IKEA fitted cot sheets to cover the seats. The material causes enough friction to stop the throw moving or failing off. Very cheap to buy and effective. Andrea

    I wanted that separate audio switch too but was told it wasn't possible on the current Ducato due to the system running on"data".
    Mudflaps have always been cheaper from Peugeot/Citroën dealers but was told they don't supply them anymore.
    Your van will already have a DC/DC charger but it will need to be swapped for a more powerful one compatible with a Lithium battery.
    Your cabin has Dometic blinds; much better than the Remis ones which have already gone wrong in my one month old van.
    All Amazon vans auto-lock after one second. Don't forget the keys!
    The auto gearbox is indeed very good. I'm getting over 40mpg on the motorway with cruise control on, Eco mode and climate control off. (140hp, 6m campervan)

    Hi, we have a Kontiki 884 which i know is a little larger but essentially the same layout. With regard to the seat we have a slatted base on the RHS behind the travel seat so the cushion doesn’t sink, however we find the seat bases much narrower for lounging. Our air con is fitted in the bathroom centre sky light and the extractor fan was moved to the kitchen sky light, assuming you have one, and lastly we fitted rear only air suspension ( approved for use with Alko chassis,as we already had levellers and the ride quality is night and day different, in a positive way, less steering input as I found the electric steering vague.
    Glad you don’t seen to have had many issues as our was riddled with faults such as waste tank not ben plumbed in! In fact the front sunroof still doesn’t work nearly as year on, motor homing !😂

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 месяца назад

      Thanks, interesting about the air suspension, was that the VB system? We don't have a kitchen skylight, so we will lose the fan if we had air conditioning fitted. I might see if I can fit a board in that cushion. Also we were lucky with the minor items we found wrong, as I keep saying to people. I think Todd's did a good job on the PDI.

    Very interesting Bob and Jenny great review and nice to see the pros and cons.
    I’ve got an Escape 674 with auto and also the Truma aircon unit fitted where the extractor fan was. Up to now we haven’t used the aircon but would have liked the extractor. We bought it second hand so we didn’t have a choice. In summer we are going to Italy so I would think it’ll get used there.
    I agree about the automatic transmission it’s just a dream to drive. The steering is all electric hence the lightness.
    I also have to agree about the seating at the front lounge. We have 3 seats with 2 on the drivers side one behind the front and 1 on the passenger side. All the seat bases look like they are sinking and I’ve looked into getting some thin plywood to slot under the seat base.
    Why Swift doesn’t fit a dc to dc charger with a smart alternator is just beyond me.

    You are so right about the doors and keys. So much easier to have the keys with you. The hat door lock it so stiff. Salop our dealer has stripped ours down and refitted as it was so difficult to use. It's easier now. I am fighting a key safe under the chassis and going to have a spare key there. I also have a piece of bungee on pads so when we park up and have the cab door open, I have the bungee fitted to door so it cannot slam shut. Also we have got into the habit of opening and closing the passenger door to trick the system. Re the DC to DC - I used Bluefix to do our Lithium upgrade. They rewired as the Sargent/Swift wasn't up to the job. I have had two DC to DC fitted for our 320ah EcoTree. Like you , we have pondered about aircon. However we wanted more solar . It would seem that aircon units on the room are just too big and would have compromised the panels we wanted on the roof. I am still going to keep hunting for a smaller zircon unit but at present we will persevere . Free electric was the priority. One thing I am impressed with is that the solar upgrade I have done is keeping the fiat engine battery charged up. The Swift Truma 100w panel was not generating enough to keep both the engine and leisure battery topped up when in storage. The output of the flat truma panel which is a cheap Chinese re-badged panel is poor.
    Our blind surround - like you - is being changed . The plastic being bowed.
    Have you noticed a problem with water yet in the footwell? Our dealers had it in and re-sealed but it hasn't fixed it. I believe the outer seal is not sealing against the inner seal , so water gets in and somehow crosses over the inner seal and then collects in the footwell. Swift have issued a tech note to dealers saying the fix is to drill drain holes in the footwell. I am challenging that at the moment. Fine for drain holes to drain condensation, but leaks through the door I want the door seals/door fixed. It's obviously a big problem and not just with Kon-Tiki's.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 месяца назад +1

      I watched your upgrade with Bluefix, looked good. Our van has drain holes in the footwell. I haven't notice any water getting in via the door, but time may tell. We don't really spend that much time off grid for the solar to be a concern, but we have got a hook up free rally coming up, so I might change my tune soon. 😁

    • @EddieHulme
      @EddieHulme 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the info . I suspect they will put the drain holes in mine . If they don’t sort the seals I will do it myself . Can’t be that difficult .

    Hi Bob and Jenny a great video on how you are getting on with the van great as ever to hear a balanced view and both positives and negatives
    On the auto lock could you speak to fiat to see if they can code out the auto locking in the vehicle settings
    Good idea with the mudflaps and it’s worth looking at Peugeot parts uk online as you might get the mudflaps cheaper
    Yes agree with all the menus on the radio my touch screen is just the same!
    I wouldn’t bother with the fog lamps the LED headlamps are very good
    Re Jennys phone is it because it’s found CarPlay with the USB? You should be able to change it have you got music apps on it?
    Glad you are enjoying the automatic Bob I am loving it in my Peugeot 308 it’s a great transmission and makes driving so easy
    Glad you are working through the snags and getting used to the van she’s beautiful all the best to you both and poppy Daniel

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks, most seem to say the autolock can't be changed, I might ask when I get the mudflaps. Think I'll give the fog lights a miss. I'm going to see what the non-LED headlights are like. I could always upgrade them to LED. The issue with iPhone and Carplay is it always tries to play music through iTunes which we don't subscribe to. There is a way to set another music player as the default, but it's just easier to plug Jenny's phone in via USB. The player sees it as an iPod and it works really well. The motorhome is Terri to drive, so much better with the auto and 180 bhp.

    Thanks for the update - you definitely should be able to lick the doors by pressing the dash button without the ignition on - also surely you have a dc-dc on it already because with a smart alternator split charge won’t be any good. Now you have a smart alternator the fridge runs off the leisure battery when you are driving not the alternator. With a smart alternator you only have an output when you are braking or feathering the accelerator and will have no output when on cruise control so if you don’t have a dc-dc you will end up with a flat leisure battery because of the fridge !

    Hi Bob . Watched this vlog again as I was wondering if you had mentioned the fresh water drain. If your is anything like our on our 784, then it suffers from the dreaded design issue of it being too low. For months we have been ever so careful but this week disaster struck leaving Ty Mawr campsite in Wales and it was ripped off by a high and long speed bump on exit. I have taken issue with Swift re design but not holding out any hope . Will probably fix myself with either refit , re-route nearer waste outlet or just put a manual top on it. Do you have any thoughts? I have also complained to Swift via dealer over that door stop into bathroom. It had been adjusted but wife really struggles - noticed yours seems easier. We have the bowed trims on blinds still waiting to be sorted. Also , Had door leaking issue has now been referred by dealers/swift to manufacturers. Hope you are enjoying Konnie. We still love ours despite the odd issue.

      Not had a problem with the fresh water drain, but I think it has been turned on its side slightly, maybe that helps. The issue I have is the drain cap on the freshwater tank is so low to the ground and keeps scraping on speed humps. No other issues, apart from the crash sensor and regulator bumping against the gas cylinder and setting off the crash sensor. I moved the regulator over to the middle.

Then it all seems to work . Looks like my bracket for drain is different to life’s for touring . They had 4 screws . Mine has two bolt holes but it only looks like screws were used .

    I still think your posh motorhome will already have a dc-dc unit fitted on it as split charge won’t work on a smart alternator. I would expect it to be the Sargent DX320-12 on your van. If Swift are not fitting dc-dc then it’s a problem. We were finding our Elddis batteries (both) going flat on a long journey- I fitted 2 Bluetooth battery monitors to the vehicle and leisure battery and I could see them falling. Smart alternators don’t give out a sufficient charging voltage unless you are braking or feathering the accelerator (and no output when on cruise control) - the instructions of the Dometic fridge we had fitted stated that the power when on 12v came from the leisure battery. We were pulling our hair out until we found that Elddis had not fitted the dc-dc unit on our van !! I’m really surprised that your van doesn’t already come with dc-dc already fitted

      @@BobEarnshawMoHo that’s interesting - I actually contacted Swift pretending I wanted to buy one but needed more information and they said “The 2024 Kon-Tiki 784 does not have a DC-DC charger fitted as standard from factory, this could be something that you could talk to the dealer about when purchasing the van.” - however everywhere I look indicates that a smart alternator must use a dc-dc charger if charging a leisure battery due to the high current it produces - it seems daft to me to have a vehicle lifepo4 ready except for the fitting of a relatively inexpensive unit. I think you may need to ensure the current charging method is disabled when they fit the dc-dc to protect the battery. I guess it won’t be too long before lifepo4 batteries are fitted as standard kit instead of the lead acid - I just swapped my 2 lead acid for one lifepo4 and doubled the available usage and saved 40+ kg in weight !

    Talking of keys - take care not to lock the keys in the motorhome garage. This happens when you turn the key to the locked position while the door is open and remove the key. It’s then all too easy to put the keys down inside the garage while you rummage for something, shut the door and push the primed locks to the closed position. I’m not admitting to doing this, but we now have a well hidden key in case of emergency!
