I have a similar story like him. Today I have been deported from Hong Kong by new Zealand immigration. They are just doing foolish things despite the fact that I had a good travel history and everything was prepaid. There was one more person I met who was deported from new Zealand despite having three UK travel visas. Seems something fishy with immigration officers.
Dont go hk, all information correct, same happens with me all documents are clear.
