Man, I love you even more now. I know what you are doing here: Recruting an audience for social pressure. I'd love to provide that for you. Among other things you are the reason I make one of the best white coffees with my Bialetti (Genius method! With my induction cooktop it works even without back and froth of the pot). SO GET IN DECENT SHAPE OLD MAN (-: PS F*** C*****.
Ha! My wife just said to me "Hopefully he doesn't take your comment the wrong way!" Pfff. Never been in doubt for even a second (-: Maybe this eye-opener for battling this war on two fronts (A fitness B diet) will help, too: Matthew Lysiak: Fiat Food.@@wiredgourmet
I loved your tone of delivery in this video - it’s as if you were giving your own body a brutally unfavorable review. I’m a big fan of your content, and I truly wish you the best with your journey!
For me your deep voice is connected to anything related to coffee. Hearing you do an in-depth analysis of your own health while I have images in my head of you opening a grinder is confusing haha. Keep up the good work!
Very much this! Half expected him to say 'So what are we going to do about it. First, we'll replace this disk in my spine with a ceramic module. That'll need fettling, which will be in the next video.'
Inspiring to see you get back on the horse! We're all rooting for you. Please consider adding resistance training to your regimen. As we age, resistance training becomes increasingly more important to combat sarcopenia. Even if you're not trying to increase muscle, resistance training is needed to fight the loss of muscle that happens naturally. Am I correct in assuming that you don't merely want to "lose weight?" Specifically, you are attempting to lose fat and retain the muscle you have. In a caloric deficit, maximizing fat loss whilst minimizing muscle loss is optimized primarily through 1) resistance training and 2) protein intake. Have you attempted to use a recumbent style exercise bike to get some easy "zone 2" style conditioning in? It would certainly take the pressure off of your joints. If you approach health and wellness with the same analytical mindset as repairing an EK43, I have no doubt that you can make a massive transformation!
All of that and you are producing AMAZING content?! What an example to set for your loved ones and your subscribers! Keep it up and I'm cheering for you.
I’ve been watching this channel for awhile now. To hear the struggles behind the humor and amazing content is inspiring! To see time and time again consistent and detailed videos coming out of the channel, and to know the hurdles that needed to be overcome to achieve them, is a tremendous success. Continue the good work whatever that might be and good luck!
Working hard and making no excuses! Your content on this channel has been invaluable to improving my coffee and I'm always excited to see a new video from you, Thomas. Can't wait to see your progress.
Much love from the USA, your aeropress recipe was the first budget type recipe of coffee I ever had that I truly enjoyed. I'm working on a joepresso espresso recipe currently and a joepresso filtered coffee hybrid. As someone whos 30 with high blood pressure, doc says I have high cholesterol and edging too close to diabetes and need more cardio, I find your being just as straightforward about your health and being human as you are with coffee, philosophically beautiful. Keep it up so you can enjoy coffee and help the world enjoy coffee for much longer.
Just stumbled on the channel. Thanks for pushing back against the idea that everyone else has it put together. Sharing your health issues is a great reminder that we’re all human and struggling with something. Keep up the good work and don’t give up!
Just found this video after watching some of your Moka Pot Voodo videos -- thanks for those, they improved my brew this morning (which I'm now enjoying)! Just wanted to say that I wish you the best, and hope that your efforts will lead to a better quality of life. You got this!
I’m about 25 years younger than you and in decent shape. But I’ll be damned if I would want to come to blows with you. Those punches still got plenty of venom in them👏🏻👏🏻
Sorry to hear about the peripheral neuropathy, my wife suffers terribly with it post-cancer. Move as much as your body will allow you and keep pounding that bag! Peace and Love
Great vid - you sure have been through a lot - good to see you're not giving up the fight :) Sorry the move to Ireland didn't work out better - often thought of moving to Europe to get away from "'Merica". I'm getting up there in age and know of some of the things you speak - I know you said you don't like it, but a family friend had wrecked their back and had arthritis and found swimming to be a great way to get exercise when other means were difficult/painful. Wish you the best and hope you reach your goal :)
If it's any consolation your voice has not been effected as you sound younger than your age of 68. Wife and I (55&56) have recently changed our diet in order to loose weight and improve health. Here's wishing positive vibes in improving your health.
From a thrice Cancer survivor (2017, 2020 & 2022) in my 78th year with all of the artifacts from treatment that you describe and then some I'd say that you are not looking & cooking too badly considering SO I'd be happy for you to check in with a workout video any time you'er feeling squirrely!
That was freaking inspiring. Losing weight should help to... literally lift a lot of weight off your shoulders. You can do it. I should also stop making excuses and do it too, seeing you put the effort is so motivating. Also sorry to hear about the conditions in Ireland. For a country with one of the highest GDP per capita int he world, I did't know things were so bad there.
Fantastic effort! Any kind of physical activity will vastly improve your health outcomes. Loosing adipose tissue around the waist will improve your health far beyond just reducing load on your joints. With GPP(general physical preparedness), adjusting diet(caloric intake, omitting ultra-processed foods) and getting good sleep the quality of your life will improve so drastically you might be in better shape than ever before.
Keep it up! For many more years with your family, and making coffee videos! And please do run for president, I’d love to see you do a teardown on the Nuclear Football or something 😄
I'm sry I don't know your name and hate referring to anyone by informal titles or names like "bro or pal".. So.. My Friend, absolutely admire your willingness to get "back in the ring". I am praying for you and cheering you on with what right now might be feeling like a mountain you need to climb. But I know you can do it. I see the drive and motivation. May I suggest/ encourage you too look into and giving a try to juicing with a cold press juicer. I'm 49 and my parents are in the mid 70s. They are noticing better health and weight loss. My Dad has main health problems but since we started juicing he has been able to stop taking 2 or 3 meds that he has been on for 10 years..the meds he is no longer taking were for high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes. You have a fan in me. God bless you my friend Fight fight fight
good luck, quite inspiring to see someone still trying to better themself in later life. wish my parents did the same ! is a stationary bike also out of the question? i would have thought the low-impact nature and the fact that your also using your hands for balance could be a good option for you given that you don't enjoy swimming.
I would do some sort of resistance training if I were you. Studies show, that its actually very beneficial for your bones and cardiovascular system not only muscles (greater bone density, less osteoporosis/fractures). But in any case, I wish you all the best and am looking forward to your next update!
Yes please, do more. There’s still power in those punches. Have you tried intermittent fasting? Eat in an 8 hour window, 16 hrs fast. I did this for general health, but found that I quickly started losing weight and have done, even after increasing calorie intake. I normally do 9:30-17:30 or thereabouts.
Very sorry to hear about your health issues. Best of luck with your fitness work. I hope you’ll keep us along for the journey. In the meantime, I am anxiously awaiting your Bianca review. I’ve got one waiting for me under the Christmas tree, so I hope you will approve of it, haha.
Keep it up!!! Would like to hear more of your thoughts on Ireland and about your general health and weight loss have you tried or considered the benefits of fasting?
I know you've probably been suggested it but Low Carb High Fat diets do wonders for inflammation and numerous issues. Take a look at the work by Dave Feldman and I think you'll be fascinated. But naturally everyone knows about figures like Prof Tim Noakes (used to advocate for carb heavy diets for runners and wrote the book on running), Halle Berry who is a type 1 diabetic, Mikhaila Peterson (Juvenile Arthritis in the extreme) and Shawn Baker. Good luck with the exercise, try find ways to add resistance training in a structured way.
Good luck! Does a stationary bike and an upright sitting position strain the lower back? I have a smart trainer and for winter months, with zwift on the TV, it makes cardio pretty nice. I have a huge bias towards cycling. But depending on the position I feel like this may not hurt your back?
I'm not old but I've always thought that long 36hr+ fast would be the most optimal form of exercise for old people. Especially because it both increases growth hormone and cleans up senescent cells. Keep doing whatever you can make the norm 👍
Wow, how inspiring! I know theres plenty of what and what not to do's all over, but if you're interested I can really recommend intemittent fasting if you want to try it. You just eat for 8 hours and then pause for 16 hours. So skip breakfast really. Very easy and the easiest way to loose some weight, I think. And has many other good effects. I wish you good luck!
I'm a Medical Physicist and I wish you luck with your journey. I was wondering how you found the experience of receiving external beam radiotherapy? I would imagine that had circumstances been different, you would have found the machines quite 'cool'.
RT was painless and and smooth the techs were always thoughtful and considerate. And for a mech/tech/eng nerd like me, getting strapped into a linac IS about as cool as it gets :)
Man, I love you even more now. I know what you are doing here: Recruting an audience for social pressure. I'd love to provide that for you. Among other things you are the reason I make one of the best white coffees with my Bialetti (Genius method! With my induction cooktop it works even without back and froth of the pot). You're exactly right. It's like working to a deadline :)

Huge respect for your efforts! 👊
I'd like to see that follow-up video, you got this!
Thank you for sharing! I wish you some recovery and congratulate your bravery in posting this.
@4:50 I love seeing how you're wrecking the bag whilst the young bicep bros are all sitting around on their phones... classic modern gym :) Good work!
Oh so inspiring! I look forward to more updates. Always enjoy your content and this video is no different!

You are a huge part of why I fell in love with the moka pot, keep up the good work man you got this
From one immigrant into the ROI to another, well done and keep up the fight. I’ve learnt so much from your videos and I thank you heartily for that.

Oh, IE is an absolute paradise for corporations and their major shareholders, plus about 10,000 local vassals serving them in politics and business :)

Anything is better than nothing! I have no doubt you will improve after the initial shock of starting any training regime. Focus on your strengths!

Don't worry; it's a good machine :) Review will take a few weeks, so it's second nature before I comment on it publicly.
dear lord those are some mean punches
Stick with it! Best of luck!
