Man, I love you even more now. I know what you are doing here: Recruting an audience for social pressure. I'd love to provide that for you. Among other things you are the reason I make one of the best white coffees with my Bialetti (Genius method! With my induction cooktop it works even without back and froth of the pot). SO GET IN DECENT SHAPE OLD MAN (-: PS F*** C*****.

Inspiring to see you get back on the horse! We're all rooting for you.
Please consider adding resistance training to your regimen. As we age, resistance training becomes increasingly more important to combat sarcopenia. Even if you're not trying to increase muscle, resistance training is needed to fight the loss of muscle that happens naturally.
Am I correct in assuming that you don't merely want to "lose weight?" Specifically, you are attempting to lose fat and retain the muscle you have. In a caloric deficit, maximizing fat loss whilst minimizing muscle loss is optimized primarily through 1) resistance training and 2) protein intake.
Have you attempted to use a recumbent style exercise bike to get some easy "zone 2" style conditioning in? It would certainly take the pressure off of your joints.
If you approach health and wellness with the same analytical mindset as repairing an EK43, I have no doubt that you can make a massive transformation!

As someone whos 30 with high blood pressure, doc says I have high cholesterol and edging too close to diabetes and need more cardio, I find your being just as straightforward about your health and being human as you are with coffee, philosophically beautiful. I'm getting up there in age and know of some of the things you speak - I know you said you don't like it, but a family friend had wrecked their back and had arthritis and found swimming to be a great way to get exercise when other means were difficult/painful. Fantastic effort! Any kind of physical activity will vastly improve your health outcomes.
Loosing adipose tissue around the waist will improve your health far beyond just reducing load on your joints. With GPP(general physical preparedness), adjusting diet(caloric intake, omitting ultra-processed foods) and getting good sleep the quality of your life will improve so drastically you might be in better shape than ever before.

My Friend, absolutely admire your willingness to get "back in the ring". I am praying for you and cheering you on with what right now might be feeling like a mountain you need to climb. But I know you can do it. I see the drive and motivation. May I suggest/ encourage you too look into and giving a try to juicing with a cold press juicer. I'm 49 and my parents are in the mid 70s. They are noticing better health and weight loss. My Dad has main health problems but since we started juicing he has been able to stop taking 2 or 3 meds that he has been on for 10 years..the meds he is no longer taking were for high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes.
You have a fan in me. God bless you my friend

Yes please, do more. There’s still power in those punches. Have you tried intermittent fasting? Eat in an 8 hour window, 16 hrs fast. I did this for general health, but found that I quickly started losing weight and have done, even after increasing calorie intake. I normally do 9:30-17:30 or thereabouts.

I know you've probably been suggested it but Low Carb High Fat diets do wonders for inflammation and numerous issues. Take a look at the work by Dave Feldman and I think you'll be fascinated. But naturally everyone knows about figures like Prof Tim Noakes (used to advocate for carb heavy diets for runners and wrote the book on running), Halle Berry who is a type 1 diabetic, Mikhaila Peterson (Juvenile Arthritis in the extreme) and Shawn Baker.
Good luck with the exercise, try find ways to add resistance training in a structured way.

You just eat for 8 hours and then pause for 16 hours. So skip breakfast really. Very easy and the easiest way to loose some weight, I think. And has many other good effects. I wish you good luck!
