How to trigger a scientist in one easy step: Say you are not scared easily What goes in a crazy scientist's mind at that moment: *Finally, a worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!*
Loved this one! And Thank You Justine for taking a few jolts for education. Can't think of anyone to invite but you could do a show about using a medium power audio amplifier to modulate the plasma of a candle flame. Plasma and electronics play well together on camera.
I can tell Diana is a lot of fun at Halloween :) In a high school Science class, we experimented with a Van de Graaff generator. One experiment involved volunteers standing on a 12" high insulated platform and placing their hands on top of the generator. We weren't shocked because we weren't grounded, but our hair was slowly levitated just like the dolls hair. One guy got his picture in our year book with his hair standing on end like that.
This video gave me so much respect for Simone because you could do all this stuff to Simone and she would just smile and nod and have a "yep, that's the way my life goes" expression on her face. Please make videos with Simone and people like her.
now i have to return on my steps and build a Van De Graaff generator for myself, i always wanted one just because it's cool but i never considered the "freak out your friends cool" level
Well, they're not that hard to build. You need a dome, PVC (or some insulating plastic) tube, a motor, a metal dome, some copper wire, a rubber belt, metal brushes (like from a car's starter), and some plans that walk you through making it safely. Basically, the tube isolates the metal dome from the grounding structures. The motor spins a wheel at the bottom of the contraption to move the rubber belt. The belt moves past the metal brushes touching it, causing the belt to pull electrons from the brush. This causes the brush to pull electrons from the wire, which causes the wire to pull electrons from the dome, and the dome becomes positively charged. Give you an idea how easy they are to make, they were being made and used in parlor shows (shows in someone's home) back in the late 1800's. So, when you make yours, have fun and don't cut any corners.
Thanks for having iJustine... she's been around forever and therefore she's a legend. You asked for other celebs to join you (asked to join)... coming to mind. Chris Ramsay, Dustin (smarter every day), Evan and Katelyn, Simone Geirtz, and of course ADAM SAVAGE. I just found your channel and it's really awesome! thanks for doing it!!!
6:00 - You can do the same thing under high-voltage lines because they leak so much energy. Stand under high-voltage power lines and hold up a fluorescent tube and you can have a light-sabre. 😉
5:35-5:55 I'm rollin on the floor laughing!! It was an awesome video Dianna I love u😍😍 We want Mr. Destin Sandlin here in physics girl that would be amazing 🙌 what do u think
The flying pie tins was so nice! I had no idea what you wanted to do with them when you pulled out the box, but as soon as you put the stack on top of it, I just knew they'd go flying, since you had just mentioned that if you cut the doll's hair it would fly off, and I wasn't disappointed!
I'd like to see a collaboration between a bunch of science youtubers, e.g. you (Physics Girl), Destin (Smarter every day), Brady Haran (too many channels), Kyle Hill (Because Science), Derek Müller (Veritasium), Kevin (TheBackyardScientist), Hank Green (Sci Show ), ...
Wow, what's amazing is @Physics Girl has 1.2 million subscribers. Congratulations and I remember when you only had a few hundred thousand. Keep it up and Go Science!
Wow . That was an amazing video. I really liked the format. The van de graff generator reminded me of a similar video by Tibees. She is also a RUclipsr who makes videos on Physics . Do check her out.
Hope you are feeling better Diana. The fluorescent light one works if you take it under an electric pylon and hold it up to he wires as well, we use to do that a long time ago when I was young.
Love when you bring guests on. I hereby nominate Mithuna who does the Looking Glass Universe RUclips channel. She's one of the best at explaining quantum mechanics and I think the two of you could geek out. Would also LOVE to see CGP Grey, but I don't know if he prefers not to be on camera. But if you could get him it'd be great.
PG, you are so bloody awesome! I've quietly watched your videos for quite a while, but then you drag out the van deGraff generator! OMG! I love you! I had a vdg generator and s Jacob's Ladder when I was 15. I built the ladder from an oil furnace igniter transformer (25kV) and two 6' pieces of 18ga. copper wire. It was the best Halloween setup ever... Until my buddy's mom's parakeet flew too close to the wires and exploded. I had no idea that those little birds were fused so low! I was banished from the house until we graduated high school and had our own places. I still laugh a little thinking about the look on Mrs. E's face when her keet exploded like a tiny yellow (ill made) pillow during a pillow fight. Twee-Boom! 😂 The smell of burned feathers was very much not funny.
Omg the flying pie pans was AWESOME!!!
Noticed how they go left-right-left-right in turn? It's because they repel each other even on their way off! ($
@@jkobain that's rad!
it's so simple but still awesome, haven't seen it before

When are we getting the video where she gets scared though?
Physics Girl: Let's fix that with a controlled shock. Literally.
Great video except for one thing. I was really hoping to see you or Justine hold your hand on the ball and watch your hair rise.
@@theguyfromsaturn Well...she could take her to a haunted house...
I couldn't yet torture someone else in my channel. You're living my dream! Good job!

Worthy! Lol. She has never seen a plasma ball before.
Did Toy Story teach you nothing about torturing dolls? ;-)

Yes. How to do it.
Wasn't the moral of the story that even creepy looking toys are just toys like you and I?
So play nice!
