How much difference does a linear amplifier make?

  • Quick demo of QRP vs QRO.
    Barefoot (amplifier turned off) is 10 watts from a Yaesu FTDX10. Amplifier turned on is approximately 250-300 watts. The amplifier is an RM Italy BLA350.
    This was on 80m LSB. The antenna is an EFHW cut for 40m (with a loading coil & a 2m tail on the end to make it load on 80m).
    The distance between the transmitter (in Swindon) & webSDR (Hack Green) is slightly over 100 miles as the crow flies.
    As you can see in the video, the difference between 10 watts & almost 300 watts is approximately 2 S-points.
