Ising Model of Magnetism

The magnetization of a permanent magnet depends on the interaction of neighbouring magnetic moments of the atoms in the solid. The Ising model calculates this for a 2d case. Above a critical temperature T_C, the spins orient rather randomly; below the critical temperature, magnetic domains emerge, with neighbouring spins having the same orientation.
