Oak Ridge Boys Leaving Louisiana In The Broad Daylight lyrics
Mary took to running with a travelling man
Left her momma crying with her head in her hands
Such a sad case, so broken hearted.
She say, momma, gotta go, gotta get outta here
Gotta get outta town, tired of hanging around
I gotta roll on between the ditches.
Just an ordinary story 'bout the way things go
'Round and around, nobody knows
But the highway goes on forever,
That ol' highway rolls on forever.
Lord, she never would’ve done it if she hadn't got drunk
If she hadn't started running with a travelling man
If she hadn't started taking those crazy chances,
She say, daughter, let me tell you 'bout the travelling' kind
Everywhere he's goin' such a very short time
He'll be long gone before you know it
He'll be long gone before you know it.
She say, never have I known it when it felt so good
Never have I knew it when I knew I could
Never have I done it when it looked so right
Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight.
This is down in the swampland, anything goes
It's alligator bait and the bars don't close
It's the real thing down in Louisiana.
Did you ever see a Cajun when he really got mad
When he really got trouble like a daughter goin’ bad
It gets real hot down in Louisiana.
The stranger better move it or he's gonna get killed
He's gonna have to get it or a shotgun will
It ain't no time for lengthy speeches
There ain't no time for lengthy speeches.
She say, never have I known it when it felt so good
Never have I knew it when I knew I could
Never have I done it when it looked so right
Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight.
She say, never have I known it when it felt so good
Never have I knew it when I knew I could
Never have I done it when it looked so right
Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight.
Just an ordinary story 'bout the way things go
'Round and around nobody knows
But the highway goes on forever,
That old highway rolls on forever.

R.I.P Joe Bonsall
RIP joe. god i love the oak ridge boys. reminds me of my dad and grandma
This kind of country was so good. Each of these guys were so talented. I just can't get into this new stuff.
They still sing and are putting out new CD every few years. Find them on Facebook or Instagram. Also have done some great gospel with the Gsithers in the past, but still available, I think.
I agree! This “new country” crap they’re playing these days is nothing more than watered down R&B. It’s Beyonce with a fiddle! 🙄🤦♂️
@@Navyguy1990 Today's country ain't country; it's junk.
RIP: Joe Bonsall
Still sounding great in 2023. Love William Lee Golden.
Great song written by the one and only Rodney Crowell!
Takes me back to the 80s. So much good music came out of that decade and so many memories.
The 80's were an amazing decade for country music.
Something tells me that these guys have a lot of fun doing this song live.
Older country artists usually do look like they're havinga good time...
See these boys on their American Made Your. You're right , Joe really gets into the music. Great concert
Fantastic, brilliant real country, I love you boys.
The manager said "we're playin live boys, get a suit!" I see they all had different ideas of a suit.😜
"So young, and so handsome"
So broken hearted yes
Grew up in WVA listening to country in mid-late 70s--early 80s...this was a great one among em...Real country music doesnt exist anymore..hasnt in over 30 years imo.
19Lyvewyre72 these guys are still singing it!
@@edb402 uu
Rodney Crowell wrote this in reference to Mary Kay Place. Talking about her wild youth times. The line about, Mary took to runnin' with a travelin' man.
can anybody else imagine a duo of Richard Sterban and Harold Reid ?
Love these guys forever
I love this group! They sing country and gospel. I don’t think you will hear them singing about drinking and cheating in their songs! They are good clean wholesome country songs. Best harmony of any group I’ve ever heard! Love their gospel songs!
The Statler Brothers May edge them out on harmony in my book, but I love them both!
Yes they are good, but I don't think I've ever heard their gospel. Do you like the Statler Brothers gospel? Claudia Heinowski
Except for this song, in which they sing about drinking, lol. And about 10 more of their songs which sing about both cheating AND drinking!
This is the 1st time I seen Joe with straight hair! Love this song!
I just love this song and The ORBs singing
We love The Oakridge Boys in Mobile Alabama!!!!
William Lee Golden...a PROUD Brewton Alabama Man.
Mobile is about 70 miles south of Brewton Alabama.
I used to drive thru Brewton, AL when going to visit family in Milton, FL. I haven't been thru there in almost 18 years now and I miss it.
Richard is always the Classy dresser.I admire his taste.
I think this is a good song
I love the song
best two lines of the song... Leaving Louisiana in the broad daylight & have you ever seen a cajun when he really got mad when you really got trouble like a daughter gone bad it gets real hot down in Louisiana!
Hell yeah my boy, this is real fucking music
That's right brother
One of the ORB's first country chart toppers. This came out around 1978-79. Put them on the map beyond their gospel roots that date back to the 1940s. This was a couple years before Elivra, which would pretty much turn them into a household name in America as they'd cross over to the pop charts with that one.
Saw them last night at The Grand Ole Opry. Still have the same energy. Maybe alot older, but still can move a crowd.
Oakridge boys are true blue cowboy country singers. God bless them
Awesome awesome and awesome
I miss county music ❤️
I grew up with this! Love it. Always makes me happy
A lot of truth in this song. No one sings better than the Oak Ridge Boys.
Well, if no one sings better, then all the people who sing to become the best singer might as well quit since no one can sing better. (you are an idiot)
Wow they were so young, William Lee Golden's beard hasn't even started growing out
Sterben and Golden were so good looking.
Ever time I hear the oak ridge boys i think that this is the way country music should be
A Great Song by a Great Group
Say these talented men in person at the Winnebago national camp out. They are wonderful.
WLG before the beard
Always great for the rides out of town
I just love the deep voice..and they seemt o have great fun
I love this song so much i use to listen to the. Cd
@@nicholasstearns8296 I remember when my parents got the 8 track loved to listen to this song
I love this style of country. That new crap just sounds weird
jarod gray the new crap does sound weird
The new "crap" that you refer to is showing your biased. Music is music.
Grew up in to this stuff, great band.one of a kind
It all went down hill when the 90s ended. Sounds more like pop or hip hop now, ugh 😩
Listen to the Outlaw movement. Cody Jinks.
Great music and the guitar was on point. The harmony is definitely different level.
Nice to see its actually live and not the typical tv show recording
Bring back loving feeling
That is true about this song cause I am from the swamps in la
Reminds me of good times. 💕
Credit Rodney Crowell and Donivan Cowert for such a great song. Rodney's a way underrated writer.
They also sung this song on the TV Show Dukes of Hazzard, during season 3 of The State of the County episode.
Yes they did, they actually appeared twice on the Dukes of Hazzard. I think maybe the "Granny Annie" episode may have been the other.
@@jdtractorman7445 yes I can't remember the other song.... Not Elvira.....
@@glen7318 Y’all Come Back Saloon!
That's a great video. It's here on RUclips. Boss Hogg tears up the ticket that Cletus had written the Oaks. It's great. Boss Hogg dances, too.
Just saw this performed in Charlotte by its author, Rodney Crowell. Man could write a song.
Absolutely love this video!!😎
His voice reminds me of a banjo I’m not sure why I love it tho
They are a hoot in concert fun and absolutely fantastic .. oxoxo to the Oaks
Brought to you by the ol derdagian1. 😎❤️😁🖖🏻🎶👁❤️🤩
Great song and performance.
This is just great
Great band but Bill Golden was the soul.
Another great performance, by a fabulous group of men! I really miss getting to see the Oaks perform live, I guess I'll just have to watch their old videos.😊💒
I saw them when they were older, but they still sounded great.
Imagine being in quarantine without RUclips?
I'd die
agree with you jarod gray you nailed it
I really appreciate quality country music I like a variety of music the first music I listened to was country music
Sometime I'd like to leave Nebraska in The Broad Daylight----and NOT end up in Sioux Falls S.Dakota.
What?
Hahaha that's some funny s*** right there man
Nobody does it better...
That is when Richard looked so good. Handsome Italian man. I was shocked when I saw him with long hair and facial hair.
I agree--he looked much better, with short hair.😊💒
Sadly he's aged terribly.
How about a handsome Hispanic black Italian crackhead would you like that
That's what you do when you get a word wrong like the tenor did. Laugh it off and keep on going
Honestly it makes me like this recording more cause there a little bit of humanity in that moment
Love this song and performance, even though all four members are dressed like they're in different bands. :) I think Richard's (deep voice) microphone was turned way down in this song, I can hardly hear him most of the time. I can hear Joe loud and clear, but it could just be that he's slightly off time with the rest so he stands out more. Thanks for sharing!
I did subscribe, you've got lots of wonderful old country content. After listening to several versions of this song, I think this performance is my favorite, better than the album version and better than either Rodney Crowell or even Emmylou Harris' versions. Cheers!
I’ve always thought the same thing, they look like someone grabbed 4 guys and said y’all are now a band.
Tanya Winters yes! 😆🤣
Back when talent mattered more than dress code 🤣
RIP Joe Bonsall
I almost forgot what William Lee Golden looked like without long hair & a ZZ Top style beard.
He looked great.
Muito bom. Legal. Show.
I got to the beard yay 😁😁😁😁
RIP Joe
Show.🇧🇷
awesome
Country music recorded after 2012 is what is known as, "classic country". It's the best. The old stuff back when Trish Yearwood weighed less than 275 really wasn't that good.
Chris Golden is so much like William Lee
Country music today is good, but it's not Oak Ridge Boys good.
Next episode
Joe Bonsall's been using them low flo shower heads
Lo flo ,I don’t like the sound of that ! Lol
That is Bruce Lee get it right hahaha
I used to love the ORB's as a kid, but the more I look at them they seem like they come from very diverse backgrounds. They don't necessarily look "country."
THREE DOG NIGHT VS OAK RIDGE BOYS
Well that's some funny s*** there hahaha
At :22 was he trying to get them to turn his mic down?
maybe so.... Good Catch!
when was this show?
are there any singing country groups anymore......like new ones?
Andro Libre Home free
Joe Bonsall is the best!
Why does Joe remind me of Sonny Bono?
Because that is sunny Bono hahaha
That is Bruce Lee get it right
That's his long lost brother hahaha
Why do I get the feeling they know all about angry Cajuns with daughters gone bad?
The new country + rap= crap!
Buuuuuulllllshit............Lets Go Brandon
Good stuff but the style of the times was nauseating. Where's the fiddle player? Where's the drummer? Why are their alien technologies in the background? Love these guys though.
RIP Joe Bonsall
