Here's my take on the irritating 50's music. In this alternate timeline Blacks were never permanent slaves. They were brought as indentured servants like the Irish and then freed. No civil war, no jim crow none of the trauma and separation that created the Blues, or Gospel and then RnB, Rock and Rap. Every song played I heard as a kid on the radio and on TV and movies in the 60's. Happy dappy surface nice white folks music with none of our soulful influence at all.
Close. The fallout timeline differs from ours in the late 40s/early 50s. Everything before WW2 was the same. 50s "red scare" anti-communist culture never went away, but racism was overcome for the most part. The transistor wasn't invented until the 1980s, nuclear power was widely embraced (they even had nuclear-powered cars) and 50s/60s decor, style and music stayed in fashion. Capitalism and the hunger for resources like oil and uranium ore led to wars that destroyed the world... The bombs fell in late October, 2077. America and China were the last nations to fall, destroying each other in the "Great War" (i.e. the first 5 1/2 minutes of episode 1). The rest of the world got f*cked up years before that. Remember, the Fallout universe was invented/written by progressive white folks in the 1990s, when you consider that it isn't all that bad. Just have fun with it.
