Is the premium Nexus Pro worth it? | Dart Zone Pro Mk-1.2 REVIEW

  • Dart Zone has been hitting it out of the park in recent years, and there were no signs that they were resting on their laurels. Release after release, their Pro-Max offerings have been solid blasters, and they look to improve upon the hits of the year prior. That is, it seems, until the DZP Mark-1.2.
    Off the back of the 1.0, the 1.1, and the Nexus Pro and Max Stryker, this blaster claims pro performance and unmatched compatibility right out of the box. However, like a multitool, it can do many things poorly and very few things well. While it delivers the performance, the folding N-Strike buffer tube stock adds unnecessarily flex, and the full-length magwell leaves too much room for jams and misfeeds.
    This is a long review, so strap in and let's talk about it…

    An update to my jam fix, some people have found that you can fully remove the floppy bit of the pusher, and it functions mostly fine-ish.
    Same solution as my mod, but it's reversible... if you wanted to for some reason.
    It doesn't fix all the other issues with the blaster unfortunately.

  • @bhizzle64
    @bhizzle64 Год назад +45

    I got mine from participating in the fpt, and I really enjoy it after replacing the stock and fixing jam issues (just remove the dart guide). It gets good performance stock and can be easily detuned for lower power games with the low power spring, and I love the grips. However I just can't recommend this blaster. You shouldn't have to rely on a fix for a $130 blaster to be usable as advertised. If you really want it, wait for a sale or see if you can buy one off an fpt player who doesn't want theirs.

      The Tomcat and Dictator are more interesting to me atm. I really wanna love the Deuce but not yet. Though the first person to mod it up enough can have my money. I just want a good cowboy short dart sidearm that I can actually afford and want to use.

      The Deuce is a disaster with its rotation failures.
      My Tomcat had QC problems with the shell being bent.
      The MK 2.1 has unavoidable ergonomic sacrifices with grip size and mag release. YMMV but its not for me and my small hands.
      The Dictator is a genuine improvement over the prior Conquest. I actually like this one.
      Overall this season there was more misses than hits for me.

    • @Stevenwave-
      @Stevenwave- Год назад +1

      I think DZ's dropped the ball pretty big. The 1.2 looks pretty seriously flawed, the 2.1 can be jammed if used too quickly, warped Tomcats are getting into customer's hands, and the Deuce is a flawed design. It's bizarre they've hit such a weird period.

    • @adriansue8955
      @adriansue8955 Год назад +1

      @@Stevenwave- its not totally out of the blue
      if we take off the 'rose tinted glasses' for a moment and look at the year before, there are warning signs:
      the MK2 had inconsistent quality control
      the MK3 had jams when using Talons, and doublefeeds with some full lengths
      unpopular opinion for sure, but I'd almost say they've always had problems; we've just been willing to overlook them because high FPS and half darts from a big company was so new and exciting.

    I am on Nebula and during Foamcon, teams did photoshoots. We were asked to do some "tricks" with the blasters.
    I had the mk1.2, I won't go into what the trick was but, I flipped the stock to the extended position, put it into my shoulder, the force broke the stock and it cut my lip open. 🙃

  • @GrimzNerfWorks
    @GrimzNerfWorks Год назад +11

    I also did a fairly extensive test/ review of the 1.2, and I would agree with your opinion. The only way to truly "fix" the jamming, is to remove the locks, and the dart guide at the top. The overall quality on the blaster is not representative of what Dart Zone has shown they are capable of doing. With that in mind, and considering they discontinued the 1.1 the only similar products to recommend are the nexus/ striker & the upcoming Game face Trion.

    Though I also did silly’s cut outs, I figured out taking the whole tooth dart guide, that sits ontop, out which was a simple screw, it worked but it was really odd cause figuring out the tooth guide was pushing darts down or up which wasn’t giving a correct feed to dart gate and barrel. Since than I haven’t had any issues with it but we also did figure out that the spring itself sometimes gets kinked inside the blaster, after multiple uses.
    Great video Btw!

  • @my00t8

    I'm with you on the stock. Why did they go N-strike compatible on a "Pro" blaster? It just doesn't make any sense. Integrated buffer tube was always the way to go, so this was a bad decision and a downgrade. Don't even get me started on the "folding" bit. Makes matters worse and no one looking at this blaster, let alone operating it, would ever mistake it for a CQB option. You'd be better off with the Mk III or, if springers are your thing, either of the Mk II options now available. Add to the folding, N-strike compatible stock debacle the fact that we are STILL putting mag adapters in "Pro" blasters and barrel shrouds that do nothing for accuracy... C'mon, man! Dart Zone, I love you, but please... If it's going to wear the "Pro" label it needs to be "Pro." Integrated buffer tube. Short dart only. Oh, yeah, and put a SCAR on it. On that last point, even the ABS molded SCAR barrels from Worker make a big improvement at above 175 FPS. So, Dart Zone, you don't even have to get fancy with strings or *gasp* roller bearings! Though if you went for the later you could probably post it as a separately available accessory on your web site and make a small fortune.

    When I first saw this blaster in action, I immediately became concerned about the folding stock--generally speaking from what I've heard, the more articulation any mechanism has, the less reliable it becomes.
    Also, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I think N Strike attachment points have really no place in the 140+ FPS performance bracket. I get that more people probably have bigger inventories of N Strike stocks, but buffer tube stocks are generally more robust by design because they're made for airsoft and such.
    I don't think I was ever going to purchase this blaster anyway given how much better value things like the Nexus and Stryker are, but most of the reviews I've seen are enough to convince me that this one's pretty much a flop.
    Hopefully Dart Zone makes something better in the Mk 1.3 if they plan to continue the Mk 1.X lineage though!

    I can’t imagine what DZ was thinking releasing a $130 “premium” blaster that falls so short of their cheaper, simpler options.
    It looks like they tried to cram too many gimmicky features into it instead of just releasing a solid, simple, robust product.
    My nexus pro is fantastic, and it was $40 on sale at wal mart. This is essentially the exact same blaster with a bunch of goofy unnecessary tweaks and additions that make it fall flat.

    I think a $130 Blaster having such significant problems is straight up unacceptable. It's not like this is the first Blaster Dart Zone have made, let alone a 'Pro' blaster. Also, why do they still insist on using a short dart adapter (especially if the blaster doesn't come with full length magazines and darts)? Cutting that out of the equation would maybe allow a better engineered blaster, and maybe even cost less.

    So far its not out in Europe - however I had the chance to test it very briefly at FoamCOn and then witnessed at the FoamProTour the disastrous jam issues the 1.2 has. If you use it just for plinking like at the booth at FoamCon it seems fine - but do you really need a Pro blaster for that? When using it competitively it was just a jam fest. So would I be willing to pay that price for it plus the rather high import costs to europe for that? I don't think so. All Pro blasters of this season have something I dislike (dart bending Tomcat, loosing its darts Deuce Pro, jamtacular 1.2 and a 2.1 with a microscopic magazine release that is way too chunky versus the 2.0 - and dont get me started on the Jurassic that launched the bending stock series of 2022 with Dart Zone). The Dictator is so far the only one that works like it should - not sure what went wrong there, but for me it will be a pass on most of them considering the way higher price sticker over here for them. Very well done and fair review. Too bad you could not make it to Endwar this year :(

    I really don't think you'll be getting too much pushback on this, it pretty much seems the consensus on the 1.2. The nerf attachment point, while I can see why it would look good on paper, is a step in the wrong direction and the priming just does not feel right. This was rushed for some reason, maybe to make it to the FPT. If so, that was a mistake. It needed more development. I'm sticking to my Striker.

      As of earlier this year, all Chronograph numbers you see in our videos and on our listings are a 20-shot average with fresh Worker Gen 3+ darts loaded in a low rate of fire Tachi. We have a specific setup and procedure in order to control as many variables as possible.

      @@outofdarts I know your proceedures well Luke... And well you got it shooting hotter than most then on Gen 3 darts... most peep are a good 20-30fps slower on those darts with those blasters... The included darts are what most reviews show was getting it on avg to as close to the 200 mark as possible...

      Then I imagine we'd have a 20-dart average in the 200-210 range if we used Bamboo 2.0s. There could be variances or QC issues between springs; our low-power spring wasn't getting the 80-100 FPS everyone else's seemed to.

    Why are none of the blasters using PTS polymer I mean even the entry level Airsoft guns are rock solid.
    I've got an KWA EVE9 and man that is ridiculously rock solid. Has anyone modded an Airsoft body in a Nerf blaster? (I'm new to the space so sorry if this has been said by our ilk a million times)

      Hi there! I don't actually think we've had this question before, so don't worry about it.
      While we're not familiar with PTS or Zytel specifically, some newer springer designs (at least compared to the Mk-1.2) probably use a similar composition of nylon polymers that make the build incredibly solid. The XYL Unicorn is one good example. Additionally, our latest short dart mag option is made with a unibody slide mold filled with glass-fiber nylon, making them the toughest hobby mags currently on the market.
      These are comparatively new developments in the hobby, though, so there aren't too many examples of blasters made with nylon-based polymers. Thanks for commenting!

      @@outofdartsThanks 👍🏼
      I'm pretty sure PTS/Magpul's polymer is glass-fiber nylon my primary is made out of the stuff and tbh I prefer it to mental replicas with how lightweight and durable it is.
      I've been looking at more of the stuff coming out now and it looks awesome, it's incredible what people are doing in the mod community.
      I'm an Airsofter most for the love of firearms and training (UK) so ownership of real firearms is prohibitive in its hoops and illegal use for logical self defense needs.....
      Anyway!!! I only get to play once a month if I'm lucky and I'd like to get my son into a similar hobby so Nerf seems like the prefect fit, with him only being seven I'm far more comfortable to get him used to safely handling a Nerf blaster before anything elses also you can play anywhere in reason haha so we can do both sports eventually.
      Thanks again.

    Thanks for the great review Luke…. Always good to hear someone’s experience
    I have messed with mine for a week now and I will say I haven’t had a jam problem yet….. but it’s so widespread that I’m just thinking I am lucky
    I do agree that the stock is bad…. The grips do move too much and the side rails have a slight wiggle to them
    But for firing my blaster a week in has not jammed once yet

      Also my arm has a natural curve when I prime so I don’t get pinched at all
      But I have tried to keep my arm as straight as possible (geez how do you shoot like this…. Lol) and if I do that I do indeed hit my hand….. ouch
      But once again I’m considering myself lucky that my natural way of priming that’s comfortable to me does not give me this issue
