I think current generations get more flak than they deserve about watching or repeating weird memes just because there is more of a spotlight nowadays on social media as it's far more accessible and widespread, when in reality they are just relishing in the bizarre nature of online media that we created.

People say this stuff is "Brainrot for Gen Z/Alpha", but 16 years ago I watched stuff like "Idiots of Gmod" when youtube was still in its infancy, and we were all kinda goofy back then, just kids/young teens finding dumb stuff funny. The previous generation wouldn't have had meme culture (Gen X) as the internet wasn't out long enough, they just had regular pop culture which would have still had its fair share of whacky content just not as digitised. I think current generations get more flak than they deserve about watching or repeating weird memes just because there is more of a spotlight nowadays on social media as it's far more accessible and widespread, when in reality they are just relishing in the bizarre nature of online media that we created.
