Most of the drive tips ive been seeing lately is to let your paddle drop/be loose until you whip to grt more top spin. Dropping / loosening the paddle head before contact improved my drives immensely

I just want to say this vid was a literal game changer for my TS drive ability. A lot started going into the net, as I started to fall into bad habits of incorrect technique. Thank you so much.

I'll have to disagree with the Closed Stance not being an optimal base for hitting a forehand drive. While I do agree the Closed and/or Semi-Closed stance work exceptionally well for drives.
The open stance is also relatively used on a higher level just due to providing slightly more balance WHEN you've already done the proper anticipation & movement towards the ball. In my personal experience, I've found myself generating more Top Spin off the Open Stance by adding torque from my Core and Snap-through while using the legs. The advantage at least I've seen, allows for deceiving the opponent. I can see the Open Stance being less favorable to utilize since it also is slightly less forgiving when you're hitting the ball even ¼ of a step late. But I don't see it as not optimal.
Hopefully this helps & I don't get bashed by other players 🤣🤣 I use all 3 stances (Closed, Semi-Closed & Open) to hit my drives. Closed/Semi more often for my backhand than not.

I think dipping your paddle head down to 6 and plowing through is fine as it’s a flat drive. If we want a top spin drive we can then do c motion contact with eastern

one thing I noticed you didn't mention is how loose and relaxed your wrist is which makes it lag behind and give the shot a whipping effect
Not sure about running around because if the opponent gets it back to the other side of the court in a singles game then you have a further distance to run if you ran around.

This video and your foot work made my game so much better. I crushed my opponents today with back to back fore hand drives that didn't hit the net. Seriously thumbs up.

I can’t seem to keep my off arm up during my swing. This helps. BTW I prefer my two handed also over my forehand😮

Justin, your demonstration shows the top at about 45 degrees in your correct drive. I tip my paddle to get better top spin. If I Try that swing like you say my ball has no dip an sails.

Jim- good point. If you watch closely, I’m actually more at about 30-35 degrees. Having the paddle dip down a bit is what will give us topspin. If we are hitting harder and flatter, might be closer to 45 degrees. Softer drops with a lot of spin, we drop that paddle tip lower.

You didn't mention top spin. Are your drives, in this video, with top spin? Btw John Cincola has a drive video and he recommends facing forward. I find it awkward and prefer your method.

The paddle's swing path and the ball dipping into the court indicates top spin. Generally, choosing between open or closed stance is dictated by the height of the ball and amount of time you have to execute the shot. When the ball is below knee height, closed/neutral, there's time, closed/neutral stance.
