  • Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) along with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff and guests recently celebrated World Fish Migration Day at the Easthampton Dam on the Manhan River!
Jill DeVito from ‪@OvertheRiverandThroughtheWoods‬ joined us and was kind enough to share this video of the event.
-Aliki Fornier from CRC opened the event with a welcoming introduction.
-Corey Eddy from USFWS caught a sea lamprey during the event to highlight this unique migratory fish in our rivers, along with discussing several other fish species currently making their way north to spawn.
-Ken Sprankle from USFWS talked about ongoing strategies to monitor and support migratory fish populations such as blueback herring and alewives.
-Jaqueline Stephens from USFWS talked about the impact of migratory fish populations on other local species such as freshwater mussels (a.k.a. ecosystem engineers!).
-The fish ladder at the dam illustrated some of the solutions implemented to create fish passage around dams.
You can learn more about migratory fish in the Connecticut River at migratoryfish.org and ctriver.org/migratory-fish.
Thanks to everyone who participated! 🐟
