Learn some new choreography on #STEEZYStudio → bit.ly/DANCERMAKESROUTINE
Hey STEEZY Nation,
Have you ever watched a dope dance routine and wondered… how the HECK did the choreographer come with that?
It’s about time we gave you an inside peek at the choreography process!
Even though every choreographer has their own unique process, watching just one choreographer create a piece will give you a deeper understanding of how dancers come up with moves and put them together.
In this video, our very own Claydohboon choreographs a piece and walks you through his process in real time.
Let us know in the comments what you thought of the final piece, and tell us if anything about the process surprised you!
Like and subscribe to our channel for more STEEZY.
Thanks for watching!
With Love,

Have you guys ever had that feeling where you listen to music and you imagine yourself dancing and you do cool move and then forget it
Yessss😂 happens alot!
This is so me lol
thats why i literally take notes when i plan on choreographing a song, those notes help me a lot when i feel like i'm getting no where
Omg yes 😂😂
I'm active at night, freaking dammit. I need to sleep but mY HEAD DANCIN GREAT
Every choreographer knows the feeling of finally getting that one move that they freaking love and try to use it for the rest of their career 😭🤦🏾♀️
Yeah that one signature move 😂
Factsss 😭😂
I'm still a young dancer but I love that feeling
Taylor Sanders gives me a “ayyyyyyyyy that was nothing- haha or maybe- I’m just thaattt bitch” *casually pretends to wipe dust off her shoulder*
Every famous choreographer do thay😅 and I like it
Every time he did a dance move he liked and said “OOH” I felt that ✋🏽😌
My students always know when I love a certain dance move because I start doing a happy dance lol
Exactly how i was feeling
Drinking game
I love how every choreographer has their own sound effects while making up steps
IKR... like my dance teacher be like: WHOO PA PA BADA BOOM BOOM
jhope be like pam pa pa pam pa
@@elizabethlotus9212 pa pa pa pa paaaahhh onee two sreee 😂
@@kayy2510 you got it 😂
That’s honestly the hardest part of watching a dance tutorial because it always makes me cringe.
I hate how when your freestyling and you do a fire move and then you forget it. No just me.
PisaCake9 that’s why your record yourself all the time so u can see what u did
Lets see when he uploads his choreography on this song
Had someone record me whenever i freestyle when making a choregraphy
no actually that's sooooo me I SWEAR TO GOD THAT'S WHY I DO NOT WANNA CHOREOGRAPH LIKE MY MEMORY IS LIKE A FISH LMAO #storyofmylife
PisaCake9 that’s me totally same
Seriously, please make a video on how to count 😂
this could actually be a good video for us dancers who do not COUNT including me lmao
@@meanmuggin0384 aha same lmao
UPPP.
Specifically music that is hard to count lol
Yes like that moment where you can’t seem to find the beat
*freestyles for about a minute*
After a few seconds breathing...
*holy shit, what did I do again?”
Samee
i feel this, but after i finish a practice section i usually film my end of practice freestyle so that fixes some of that
@@stubbornwasabi3994 nice idea
Bruhhhhh same
facts
As a choreographer, I love being able to see how others choreograph and their thought process behind it. This is rare and valuable content and would love to see more choreographers do these types of videos. So many dance tutorials out there, but not enough choreographing tutorials. Hopefully this becomes a new trend for RUclips! Thanks for this!
Seeing a choreographer's thought process behind staging a piece would be pretty awesome too!
Saaaaame! I've been looking for good videos on how to improve my process for choreography. This was so helpful to see someone else's process!
EXTREMELY VALUABLE. The best thing about doing something "Vloggy" like this is you see the process in it's rawest form.
Yesss this vid is everything
YEEEEEEES! Second this.
"I'm just gonna freestyle and see what happens"
*Does amazing dance that beats anything I have ever done*
Me: I-
edit: ACTUALLY THO HOW DID THIS GET SO MANY LIKES I FEEL SO BLESSED! Hope everyone is having a great day
Relatable af 💯😅💀
Caught me off guard 😆😆

@@chromafire120 hahah im wheezing EXACTLY HOW I FEEL IN EVERY DANCE CLASS OMG
sooooo true
I have this friend who would freestyle for us and he forgot the dope move he did and i was watching so he asked me to remind him and after that evrytime he danced i would watch and remind him if he forgot anything and i discovered i could dance. That was when i was 10yrs old now im 16 and we dance together now so when we forget we remind each other hahaha
cute!!!!
Melanie Teahyung lol. Sweet
man that's mad cute i can't
Melanie Teahyung ayyy that’s litty
Aww this is so wholesome!

*can you make a video about freestyling at dance classes like how to not freeze and be shy??*
moonlight Some personal advice, it will never be super comfortable but you gotta just embrace it. It’s really quite fun once you take the nerves for what they are, and you get better the more you dance with people. Hope this helps!
@@5h3lby52 thanks for the respond I promise I try always to be more out their by going more to the front are even when there is group select im always their its just that freestyling is nerve racking lmao
For me it took around 3 months of consistently going to jams to not give a damn about what people think of my freestyle in cyphers. It's something that you have to get used to. I still remember how terrified I was and how much I felt like crying after my first cypher but I pushed through it. Now, two years later I can comfortably say that during the times that I mess up during sessions and when I feel like I am the worst dancer in room are the moments when I learn the most about what kind of dancer I am. It's all part of the process
There's a playlist on the channel. Hope it helps!
@@Sky-bf5dx thanks for sharing your experience. In conclusion it takes time to master at freestyling. Got it 💯
I like the idea about this being a video series with different choreographers and their choreography process since everyone has their own method and style and it would be cool to venture into each unique's choreography journey to spark confidence in who we are as our own identity as a dancer. thanks for sharing your choreo journey with us! it was amazing to witness your process!
Second this idea 💡
Yeah that would be dope! I was watching and I was like woahhh that’s not at all how I choreograph😂😂
Julia R yesss. Other styles would be great
Yes please!
Yep

Clay: I'm not that fast
*proceeds to dance at super human speed*
I just made my second ever choreo a few days ago and I legit got a headache halfway through and just layed on the studio floor and thought about my life decisions 😂
Laura Ndongndeh that is a mood
Oh shoot that would be me lmao keep pushing tho
this comment made my day
hahahahaha on point
It gets easier
I think you definitely helped me. Im a defeated wannabe choreographer/dancer. I tried so hard to choreograph or learn someone else's piece but i keep failing. The line you in the end "Just because it takes you two days or two weeks or a month, doesnt mean you have to give up on it" definitely hit me hard. I keep giving up on dance and myself again and again. Because i know i suck and im not even 1% good at it. But its what i have always wanted to do. I dont know where to learn the tricks and tips for movements now. Back then i used to be good. I had energy, i automatically started dancing and connected to music so well. It feels like suddenly i have lost my art. My only possession. And its been years now, its not coming back, now building my art from scratch like a damn beginner just frustrates the hell out of me. This was not who i was. But anyway. I barely am able to move now. Idk what to even do about it. All i know is i lost. I am not the same me as before.
I feel the exact same. It is just so frustrating to know that there was a time when you were good at it a not anymore, but I working hard to get to that point again. And also, it is been a while, how are you doing? Hope you’re great and keep trying I know you can do it.
do you still feel this way?
Sounds like you need to go do some classes, you need to be an experienced dancer to be able to choreograph
I really wanna learn this dance!!!!
HAHAHAHA HIS “OOO” ON WHEN HE HEARD THAT BASS 🤣😭
his OOHS when he strikes gold is so relatable LMAO the hype and passion is reallll.
F me I am dying, the self talk is so relatable.
*Clay freestyles*
Me: OOH!
Him: OOH!
Y'all should do more of these, it's so refreshing to see someone go through their process of choreographing a piece. Would love to see how Brian Puspos does his or Keone, or Melvin Timtim.
“I feel like it’s been forever and I’ve only choreographed 10 counts”
Oof I felt that 😅😅
this was mindblowing to learn and see the process, I would love to become a choreographer but realized I dont know how to explain movements/counts to others lol
haha the struggle I also wanna become a dance teacher but yeah will see if THAT is gonna happen.
Not a pro, but I have some experience and most likely you just need to gain more exposure to the jargon. Pay attention to the words your own choreographers use, not just what they’re teaching. Also, supplement with technique classes because usually the teachers are better at explaining things with words. If the internet is your only resource start researching dance jargon and those types of classes on RUclips. You’ll find that you will use a unique vocabulary that’s a culmination of your own experience. Also, practice makes perfect applies to teaching too.
We're same HAHAHAHHA
This makes me so happy that another choreographer makes the same sounds I do when I figure out a cool combo XD. This is my 5th year being a choreographer and I honestly feel like it can be extremely hard to figure out a whole dance sometimes. Lately I have been in a creative block.
Melanie S. when I dance I do the most weirdest shit
The last routine I choreographed was 3 years ago to "New Flame". I stopped dancing after that. This video rekindled in me the immersive experience of choreography. Once you have it in you, you can never truly let go of dancing. Thank you Steezy!
Love that you "admit" that as a pro dancer it's still hard. Thanks for that- and all the other tips!
Do you find it useful to have a couple different dances you're choreographing to take the pressure off of completing one?
This was SO HELPFUL!!! I'm starting to choreograph for my dance team but it's so freaking time-consuming. Made some progress but seeing that others also struggle and the thought process that others have while choreographing is so incredibly valuable. I loved seeing the process in its rawest form. Please make more of these choreography videos!!!
"I feel like so much time has already elapsed. I've only choreographed 10 counts!". I feel you bro..
1:00 I saw moira de la torre on the bottom left. If you are a Filipino, you'll recognize her!
Biatch _1112 he’s dancing to moira and nieman’s song actually lol
I always forget the moves I come up with.... literally the moment am done with them. Yay me
It's like finishing a drawing. It takes time, practice and dedication.
THE “OOOH!” 😂😻
i love watching someone who so clearly highly trained and disciplined (his style of dance takes so much self control an he seems so casual and easy with it), but someone who is so clearly comfortable with their abilities still having fun and making new discoveries
please do more of these!
i have a contest coming up soon and i'm having a really really hard time with coreographing :/
this helped me a lot though!
Wow I LOVED this video, thank you so much for not only breaking everything down but also breaking out of the normal video style because this subject really needed this and I think it is a HUGE help for everyone 🙏
Love, love, love this. All the tips, all the moves, the fact that you had spoken out loud all the thoughts and doubts you were having during the process. So valuable and fascinating to watch.
no one:
absolutely nobody:
not a single soul:

Is always great to know that others struggle with choreographing at times. It seems that I ALWAYS struggle lol. Great video and thank you so much for sharing!!
I like how this was a vlog style tutorial! Keep em comin
I’ve seriously always wondered how choreographers do their thing it’s so fascinating! Such a gift!💛💖
Clay should put this choreo on Steezy, he should totally produce more full choreo, love his style
wow seeing your thinking process was really insightful! gave me some new ways of thinking while choreographing!
Definitely my fav! Love watching the process. You NEVER see this part.
I'm FLOORED by how incredible this is. He's a genius and so talented. Amazed!
Bro, love the thoughtfulness you put into your choreography and your process. Keep killing the game 🤟🏼
Oh my gosh, I'm so glad this popped up in my recommended! I've been searching for a video similar to the for a while, tysm!!!!! Definitely subscribing ❤️ LOVED YOUR COMBO BTW YOU NEED THIS IN HD VIDEO
This is such a helpful video to see what's the process like. It would be really cool to see a series on this with other choreographers and their own personal techniques. Thanks for the video, Clay👍
I'm glad it was helpful!! Thanks for tuning in!!!
choreographers inspire me so much, and your freestyles inspire me so much to get back into dance
this is the best channel ive discovered in ages!!!! ive been wanting to improve my dancing but i had no idea how to, and thought only practicing more would make it. im watching all your videos and taking notes!!! they are Really helpful in so many ways, there were a lot of things i was confused and that ive never heard before even in dance schools! thank you so much for your work! wish u guys the best
oh waaw so your videos are long now huh I LOVE IT
I always wondered how dancers did this bc it seems hard and I could neverrr
amazing would love to see this become a series with other dancers
I was wondering about this literally this morning, and you answered a lot of my questions in this video. Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing something that's usually private.
LOVE that you showed THIS side of the process, HOW you explained through it, and taught/conveyed every creative thought and struggle PERFECTLY!😍 BRILLIANT!💡 Stay fresh🕺
I remember making a small choreography for my friend’s cotillion. It was hard to make moves on top of your head but fun at the same time.
JUST Like for those who observed MOIRA DELA TORRE'S👍 on music
ahhaaha
Filipino singers ❤️
🥰🥰🥰😍
The singers are actually both Filipino. And I heard they are cousins(?)
Pang lasing nmn sya eh!!😂😂😂😂😂joke lang!
This is legit the best video youve ever done. You do a really amazing job of taking abstract concepts that most dancers can understand and tap into intuitively, but struggle to verbalize and express, and present them in a logical and digestible manner.
Srsly dude well done! And the chorey was dope too
I LOOOOOOOVED THIS VIDEO. It was very affirming, encouraging, and inspirational because I struggle with choreo and I wonder how many dancers do it so easy and this shows me that it is a process for even some of the most gifted people. Thanks for being real!
Thank you for this.... people don’t seem to understand what a process choreographing really is.....🙏
This video came in the RIGHT TIME for me! It was so useful!
And maybe doing the same subject with different dancers they can share their own tips too. Thank you very much! ❤
And please, make a video about counts it will be very helpful too.
This channel is literally helping me in so many ways!! I go through the same process of choreographing and bc I’m self taught and have been dancing alone since covid I often wonder if I’m sucking at getting through my choreo process. Glad that it’s okay if it takes you an hour or months to create a good piece! Thanks!
LOVE seeing the process! Vlog allows us to watch it in real time. I wish we could see all kinds of dancers document their choreo process. Please make more!
THAT WAS IMPRESSIVE.. I FEEL THE ENERGY || I LEARN SOOO MUCH...THANK YOU #Clay #STEEZY KEEP UP THE GREAT CONTENT..
R&B? Just body roll at different speeds for 3 and half minutes, perfect 😂
This shows the exact representation of how a dancer choreographs! But polishing definitely takes the DANG LONGEST TIME AND IT CAN BE REALLY REALLY TIRING but once you get to that point where it feels like you are ready to perform it on stage AAAAAAAAA! The adrenaline is amazing especially once you finish the piece! SATISFYING
This is AWESOMEE!! We definitely need more of these specially with different choreographers' perspective and how they process through the dance. This is essential for everyone watching and we greatly appreciate how you share your knowledge and inspire everyone.
Counting video 👍 Love the videos 😊
The choreo process paralyses me where I'm lying on the bed just freaking out lmao
I love how they explain while they're choreographing in steezy. It's really cool to see you guys figuring out what works and what doesn't. How we can use the tips, and how we can come up with our choreos.
I've been wanting a video like this for like 10 years! Choreographing is so difficult for me and I always just accepted that it's this abstract thing that no one can really teach you, you just have to let your body and mind and ears do their thing. But dang, you did an awesome job giving those insights in your thought process! Thanks Clay!
Eyyyy! 🙌
8:59 has me deceased. literally how. thats all im asking. i have so much respect
absolutely loved it! thank you for sharing the process, tips and even the way you felt. so relieving to hear from such an amazing dancer that choreographing is hard, felt like I'm not alone
I've been dancing for years but always struggled with choreographing and it's turned me off from the whole process. I loved how raw and vulnerable this was! Super insightful too :) I would watch a series of these! From different dancers too
This video is much appreciated! Thank you for showing the realities of the creating process not only for me to contrast it with the way I approach it but for others to grasp the concept and tools to be great! 🙏🏾🔥
Can you make a video on how can I teach choreographey in counts 😅 please
i agree!!
If you don't know how to teach the counts, just DON'T TEACH.
@@3fonas thats kinda rude because not everyone really follows counting. As a dancer, yes i wont deny that I do countings as well but not everyone base their movements in counting.
@@user-mi5jh9dq8o yeah sure. But if you wanna call yourself TEACHER you must know at least the basics. And counting is one of them. Teaching is a responsibility guys. A good dancer does not necessarily mean a good teacher. You should give knowledge to your students. If you can't, go be a student again and after some years come back better.
@@3fonas That's not rly true, but a lot of great teachers dont actually do counts, because they just choreograph based on the snares and beats of the music, so they say something like "I'm bad at counts so just bare with me", and honestly that works perfectly fine
So valuable. Thank you soo soo much! I recently found your content on RUclips and I'm obsessed. It's so well presented, engaging and helpful. You are doing something unique and beautiful.
Clay is really talented. Thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge. You are inspiring me and so many people. Thanks again.
That choreo was 🔥🔥
I wish I knew how to do this, but I need to learn how to dance first 😂
? so...we are basically the same person. You watch all of the videos that I do even this random one that I am curious about. Thought I should say hi hope med school is going well lol
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH THIS HELPED PLEASE MAKE MORE!!! 💜
Thank youuu for this.
I've always hesitated if I'm doing something wrong whenever I choreograph. And this helped me. thanks!!
Those "oooos" got me like 😍😍🤣
That is so me
I very much like this video, and yes plz clay.
This was awesome, whenever I get stuck I watch this video thanks Clay✌️ Need another dance choreographed by you✌️❤️
I love this so much. Whenever I try to choreograph any music, I end up incorporating hula moves cause that's what I grew up with. Seeing the count and different moves broken down really helps me think more outside the box while still blending that island culture
At first i was "does he even know dance exist"
After a while "Damnnnn he so good....."
please do the video on how to count i need this so much
i loved this! always wondered how choreographers do it. i learned that it takes a lot more time than i expected
Loved watching this process and I appreciated how it’s not an easy, quick process for you. Thank you for sharing that. I struggle with content or the idea of creating quickly. Thank you for the support! 🙌
I feel like I’m a great freestyler and i can interpret someone else’s choreo with a super great emotion and my own vibe ... but I still completely suck at making my own choreos ..
better make a choreography with that song i’ll seriously learn it.
clay you move so beautifully and gracefully 🥺♥
Goshhh I love your Choreography CLAYDOHBOOONNN KEEP IT UP BRUVVV😍
please do a video on counting. I don't understand the 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 thing
0:23 It's me practicing my English 😂
This was definately very valuable! Having hard time with choreographing. Looking forward for such updates !
Yaaassss i need more of these kinds of videos!!!!! I love watching you alls creative process it helps me sooooo very much.
