  • On this very cloudy yet beautiful day, I made the journey up to Arnold Loop on the Union Pacific Line in Eastern Nevada. Getting there was a challenge and a half for the Class C motorhome. This destination really is for 4wd vehicles. I don't have the start date, but the 1% grade loop project was completed in May 1914 by Western Pacific Railroad for service between Salt Lake City, Utah and Oakland, CA.

Guessing that was an eastbound BNSF traffic rights train that will go eventually to via Provo and on to Denver. I've wanted to drive out there from my place here in Utah...but wasn't sure what could be seen from the roads with no drone. Love the view from above! There is another great "loop" over towards the Soldier Summit area called the Gilluly Loop that this BNSF train will travel over before reaching its destination. Great stuff!!

The loop is the most remote train place I've been to yet. The road really calls for 4WD and without a drone, there is a fair amount of hiking uphill to get to any of the good spots. If you make the trip, it will be worth it.

Boy, some railroads sure have no qualms about putting empty centerbeam flatcars so near the front of trains. I mean, if this train went into an emergency braking situation nearly anywhere on this line, chances are those three centerbeams, cars 9, 10, and 11, would've went squirting out of the train. I thought there were strict rules on train makeup. BTW...beautiful video of an amazing location! 👍

Went over that on the California Zephyr just a few days after you filmed this. Even though at night, I was able to see the head end of our train go around the loop. Unfortunatly at night I could not get a video of it but was still neat to see. How many freight trains pass here?

Looks like a model railroad! You sure are good with a drone! Thanks!

I agree about the model train look, a lot of video that are shot higher up have that look. Thanks for the comment.
