    Max is an engineers dream. A pointy car that likes to rotatew without much steering is the fastest car. But it needs a real alien to handle it properly. Max is just like Michael. He basically wants a big go kart with 1000hp.

    • @ThinhNguyen-df1yc
      @ThinhNguyen-df1yc 11 месяцев назад +7

      Yeah ppl underestimated the importance of the driver to the developing team and didn't put handling into account.
      Ppl just think that if u have a fast car, u don't need skill to win, but in reality, no matter how good ur car is, if it way too hard for the driver to drive and make u spin every single race, there is still no point for u.
      So a great driver will open up more possibilities for the team to upgrade the car without worry about handling, which will help reduce developing time and cost, and also decrease wind tunnel time requirement.

    Attended my first live F1 race in 1976, and have done some open wheel racing myself. Compared to most drivers, Max has SO much extra bandwidth that it's eerie. In this respect he compares favorably with Lauda, Senna and Schumacher. We see wet mastery similar to Senna as well. Like Senna, Max can win in a good but inferior car. He's aggressive like a Schumacher, a Senna or a Montoya.
    The way he likes cars set up gives him a very small envelope of control, but produces remarkable speed. It's not a knife edge - it's a scalpel edge! That's amazing in and of itself, but then Max casually makes passes on the outside to boot.
    I can't remember another driver who was so complete a package at such a tender age. Actually, I don't remember more than a handful who approached this level at any age.
    Huge props to Jos as well. He's probably the best driver coach ever

I am pretty sure that a lot of teaching strategies were discussed between the two, for both Mick and Max. To have outspoken the issues you run into when you get into the higher levels of motorsport... the luxury of not always having the optimal setup or parts and how to teach the kids to drive around those shortcomings. How to also mentally prepare them so that no matter what they would always keep calm and get the best out of themselves, and if you've given it your all than to also have the mature state of mind to accept that it is what it is... with no one or nothing to blame.

    @LogiForce86 Год назад +120

    What Alex Albon says tells me that Max Verstappen can be very much compared with Michael Schumacher in the way he likes a setup. When Max's dad Jos Verstappen was team mates at Benetton with Michael Schumacher under leadership of Flavio Briatore, all 3 of the cars (1 for each of the 2 drivers and a reserve car was was normal) were setup for Michael and Jos wasn't allowed his own setup.
    Since Jos was already a lot older at the time he had already developed his own driving style and preferences, so dealing with Michael's extremely sharp setup was a feat in itself. Basically Jos was in the position of Alex Albon, Piere Gasly, Alex Albon when they were driving as the #2 driver.
    Now Michael and Jos were best friends and that was also probably the only true friendship Michael had in Formula 1. So after the kids were born they went on holidays together (source: Schumacher documentary) and personally I wouldn't be surprised if Michael would give Max some tips knowing Jos his struggles at the time at Benetton. Something along the lines of...
    "Listen... you still are developing your driving style, and if you drive an oversteering kart that feels sharp on the front it's easier to control the rear by reducing power and thus friction than trying to force an understeering car to turn more by burning up the rear tyres by spinning them up and go from understeer into forced oversteer"
    "That was also the problem your dad, Jos, had to deal with as I liked my cars sharp but he was much older than you and had already developed his own driving style. He could not cope with it and that cost him dearly. So while you are still young try to experiment with the best ways to save tyres, and this is one of them"
    Also he might have turned to Jos with the advice of randomly setting up a kart to be understeering or oversteering, or letting Max drive on old rubber with low grip. So that Max would learn to adapt his driving style as situations change, because you don't always have the luxury of a good setup.
    I would not be surprised if something like that has come to pass at some point.

    • @CarlosSamuel-ms9ee

      @@abel2150
      Fair question. There have been numerous soundings that have come out about Maxs preference in terms of car characteristics, that he prefers a car that is incredibly pointy. Even though these guys are some of the absolute best drivers in the world, they aren't machines; their performance isn't completely consistent with the level if the car if, for whatever reason, they can't get a handle on it.
      There are several things that support my point that the other drivers arent maximising the Red Bull.year Gasly got demoted from red bull, he achieved better results in the junior team Alpha Tauri; it is extremely unlikely that the junior team produced q superior car. Perezs race pace is much closer to Max than his qualifying pace; qualifying is where the intricacies of the cars handling will become most pronounced, because you are driving right on the limit. Perez has thrown away a lot of points in qualifying this year, yet is still number 2 in the standings, which supports the idea the car is dominant.
