The mother either owed money, or was being pimped out by the thugs. You see her take some money out of the envelope to buy the dress, and that's why they took her daughter away. You got her mother dancing on the rooftop and jumping off perfectly. It is so beautiful how at the end, despite the two of them not knowing each other, Acrobatic Silky was able to understand the love that her daughter always will have for her through Aira, and Aira was able to understand the love that her mother will always have for her through Acrobatic Silky.

One thing that I love about Momo's character, is that while she is obviously a tough, take no BS kinda girl, she also has this sweet empathetic nature that is usually running about 2 steps behind that attitude. Seeing her tearing up at the tunnel due to the loss of all the young girls there, and here full on weeping for a spirit that literally ate her moments ago, really makes her so endearing.

Momo is amazing and I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who really liked that moment where Momo desperately, protectively snapped at Okarun to leave her alone. She just stops seeing Silky as a monster at all the moment she understands her, and her empathy immediately steps into the spot where fear was.
@@fridaythirteenth2051 The moment that made me instantly love her character was when she rightfully ripped into Okarun for being incredibly obnoxious, and then immediately realized she went overboard by insulting his obvious insecurities and apologized.
Yeah I think that’s the only major issue I’ve got with the episode. They could’ve used the ED to show the two of them walking together in the afterlife, instead of a silly song. Maybe I’m used to rezero and the fact it’ll cut or use different songs for the ending when necessary.
When a child looking for her mother meets a mother looking for her child 😭😭😭 peak writing. Also in the manga, it shows Silky with her daughter going to the afterlife together, implying her daughter's fate. "Please let no one hurt them. Let them be happy. Let them go to a kinder world" hits you like a ton of bricks
The way I interpret it, she bought the dress for her daughter from the money she owed to the guys that broke in. Which makes it so much sadder because if she'd just paid them they could have carried on at least but she just wanted to get her kid something nice for once. Hence one of the "regrets" Turbo Granny mentioned.
There's really no explanation for it in the manga. Three guys break in, steal all her savings and kidnap her daughter while beating the mother half to death. There's no dialogue in the manga during that entire flashback. So there's different ways to interpret why it happened. She's poor and working multiple jobs including prostitution. Could have just been violent criminals and child traffickers. There's really no explanation in the manga
@@hayabusa6943 certainly possible. I'm just saying that it's not explicitly said in the manga. It's certainly extremely likely, but the actual reason isn't that important. The point was the absolute unfair horrifying fate this mother and daughter were tormented with. Just because the world isn't fair and human lives are cheap and evil is around every corner.
My thought is that Aira, who had just lost her mother, and Acrobat Silky, who was still just a wandering spirit feeling like she lost something, were both in just the right mental state for them to see each other.
I bawled my eyes out when I first read this chapter, and now again seeing this. Science Saru is absolutely goated. I could not have dreamt for a better adaptation.

I'm glad the anime adapted it quite well in the end. Bawled my eyes out the first time I read the manga chapter, still do now with it being animated, probably cried even more even knowing what was going to happen 😭

13:26 Sadly it was not just anybody. The mother owned money so debt collectors came into her home to grab the money she owes their boss. So also as “collateral” they took her little girl. I guess they expected her to return with more money. But the mom was so injured or knew that perhaps there is no way to find them ever again. So yes she jumped off a building. 😭
I don’t think it was collateral. I think it was them attempting to “recuperate”/make more money than they were owed back cuz she dared use some of the cash for a red dress. Reason being that there’s no way they’d expect a woman beaten half to death with a house ransacked to be able to pay the difference.
Where did you see her jump off a building? I saw her die in the street chasing after the car after collapsing from blood loss due to the giant vertical gash running down her arm that would kill anyone in ten minutes if they didn’t find a doctor

2:05 : Need to watch 2 times this episode to understund this moment of the feet. 7:38 : the way we saw a story in 360° like the music box of a woman dancing. I read the manga but i'll never though this anime's version was so awesome made (Animations & music). It's really a plus to the Manga, i re-discover this moment. Aira and the Yokai share a same pain, the lost of their loved one Mother/daughter and they share at the end this pain and this forgiveness/appeasement. Good job to staff who made this episode.
This episode was done beautifully, truly a work of art. The moment her flashback started I already cried, knowing what happened to her when she was alive. First time I read this chapter I balled my eyes out and I was really caught off guard since I thought dandadan was your typical comedy anime with a bit of shonen to it. There's more where that came from and make sure to prepare some tissues🥲
The music in this anime is really great, but the track they picked for the flashback sequences and the way they varied it emotionally was freaking amazing.
Aira- a child without a mother, gets to understand how much her mother must’ve loved and cared for her. And in return she gets to tell Silky- a mother without a child, how her daughter felt their time together was fun, special, worth living for. Beautiful narrative and emotional symmetry. Aira won’t be the same after this.
i never thought acro silky back story will make me tear up again. ive read the manga and i already know the story, but this is so well directed and animated. manga made me tear up but made me cry in this episode 😭
I don't know what to say....... Masterpiece That will never be forgotten Loved Every single detail I cried... alot I cried alot at this episode This the second anime to make me cry this hard Amazing
So right after this i called my mum, in the middle of the night. She didnt fully understand why a japanese cartoon had made her 31 year old son emotional. But i went on a rant about how she did a fantastic job and how no matter what happened me and my sister could handle ourselves. How after her divorce it never felt like i only had one parent, and i never even felt once i was missing something despite her doing it both. And then she cried because she said it meant so much to her to know we could do it without her, how that gave her emotional room to sometimes not do so well herself as well. Good episode.
Obviously, she was already a wandering spirit before to meet Aira just after her suicide and you can notice that Aira's Father didn't notice the woman Aira's touching. And about her ability to see her at that moment it's because Aira was young and kid sometimes get this kind of ability but also Acro silky was a new coming spirit and I guess both of them was looking about the same thing :A daughter and a mom. So they were on the same wavelength. As a manga reader which was more explicit about the backstory this is the way I got it.
I was NOT expecting a series where a boy has to track down his missing balls to make me ugly cry.

And this isn't even the saddest backstory

The music in this anime is really great, but the track they picked for the flashback sequences and the way they varied it emotionally was freaking amazing.
this anime went from funny wholesome and love it to why heart HURTS like damn wow this really just hit hard my heart
Masterpiece That will never be forgotten
Loved Every single detail
I cried... alot I cried alot at this episode
This the second anime to make me cry this hard
Amazing
I was so unprepared for this episode but it was amazing, I’m so excited to see what’s next
They seem like are yakuza, her kid must be sold for the organ
this backstory reminds me of THAT one scene in Up where they basically introduced Mr. & Mrs. Frederickson, and it still hits me like a truck
Good episode.
straight feels
so many reactors start so happy and end crying watching this episode lol
yay! so happy you were able to pick that up that she jumped off a building
Dandadan makes you think it's just gonna be a funny wacky alien ghost adventure. And then they get you.
The last anime to make me cry like this was oshi no Ko
I’m glad you caught that last part where she jumped off a building. Not a lot of people caught that part from what I have seen. Truly heartbreaking!
The shot off blood pooling from her wounds seems to have given a lot of viewers this impression that she bled out.
sending my love for all hard working mother out there ❤❤❤, you are incredible!
This episode got heavy as hell fast. Was great. Show continues to really outdo my expectations.
it loan shark
i had to come here after watching this episode i havent cried about an anime like this before
Obviously, she was already a wandering spirit before to meet Aira just after her suicide and you can notice that Aira's Father didn't notice the woman Aira's touching.
