48. Narrowboating on the Grand Union Canal

- After a wet and windy morning, I finally set off in the afternoon on a cruise to the South Oxford Canal. I’m undecided as to how far I will be going, as I’ll make that decision whilst travelling. Once I’ve moored up, I discuss an incident that happened passing through Crick.

Don't worry. It comes across in your videos that you are a kind, considerate person.
Nearly everyone will support you for that reason alone.
colm one - Many thanks your kind comment is really appreciated.
Great blog and fun to see you in side doing daily chores and tea. Thanks!
Brumby Love - Many thanks, glad you liked it.
Just enjoyed your vlog. I see even on the cut some people are without manners.
But your evening tea and that lovely fire will melt away any negatives of the day, just enjoy life.
Look forward to your next trip.
Thanks David. It’s best not to dwell on these issues and just get on and enjoy life as you say. Cheers
Hi Alan another great vlog a great cruise and you managed to miss the rain I can’t wait for the next one happy cruising until next time thanks cheers Barry
Hi Barry - Many thanks. Rain! Wait until the next episode. You’ll certainly see some there. All the best.
Some people just can’t be courteous or appreciate others at all. You obviously do😁Your fire and tea was a great end to a good day
Thanks Debbie. You’re binge watching my videos which is really nice. Hope they give a good flavour of travel on the English canals.
If I’m in the process of moving from a mooring I always wait for boats to come past, even holding on the centre line. Like you I would rather follow a boat at my own pace. Nice relaxing vlog, as usual Alan. As we are moored at Crick that part of the system is well known and very peaceful.
Thanks for your kind comment Ian. I fully agree, the boater on the move must have the right of way. I note we’re near neighbours.
Some people just have to be grumpy laugh it off and enjoy your cruising 😊
That’s just what I did David. Thanks for watching 👍
Love your videos.... you deserve more followers here.... and I guess we can all have a bad day and come across grumpy... we don't know what is going on in his life at that moment... maybe it will be different next time you cross paths.
Thanks Kev, your comment is much appreciated. Subscriber numbers is an oddity, I am surprised that they’re not higher by now.
Nice vlog, Alan. Sorry you had to have a jerk put a damper on the beginning of your trip. Looking forward to the next installment.
Thanks Zach. The behaviour was so unnecessary. More of interest in the next episode.
Loved it shame it wasn't longer 👍
Butt Pie - Glad you liked it, the following episodes will be longer. Cheers
I like your philosophy. Unfortunately you can get unpleasant people anywhere. Fortunately the majority of people on the cut appear to be OK and willing to help. "Smile and wave" can be a good motto. Best wishes
C Cooper - Many thanks. The vast majority one meets are very pleasant and helpful. Cheers
Ash and Oak trees are always late, their young leaves are particularly prone to frost damage😉
Many thanks Andrew for that explanation🌲🌳
Great video. I was there on Saturday. Sorry to have missed you.
Thanks Justine. That is a shame but it was so busy I’m not surprised we didn’t bump into each other.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture another year - or maybe on the canals.
Nice Vlog Alan
if he is tide up then it is your right of way .....as your travelling and he is not. so don't worry about it. keep up the good work, there is always someone in a rush on the canal and nine out of ten time they not even got a canal licence.you just keep on smiling and plod along.
Thanks Ray for your support, I agree that if they’re just untying it must be my right of way. No need for unpleasantness is there!
I enjoyed the whole video but the atmospheric sequence at around the 12:00 minute mark and forward were very good. You could turn out to be the Hitchcock of the cut : )!
lostinthekerf - You’re very kind indeed, thanks for those very encouraging remarks.
Hi. Did not make crick thanks for blog great ted
Thanks Edward glad you liked it. Cheers
Nice vid
Your a lot more polite than me🤣🤣I don't suffer idiots I'm afraid. Like you say your out to just enjoy the ride, no need to rush is there, unfortunately there's idiots everywhere
Hi John I try not to ‘rock’ the boat. Sometimes when help is needed it can come from an unexpected source. Just want a pleasant life.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Oh I'm with you there, I much prefer the quiet easy life, I help people out when I can, but sometimes some idiot comes along and just spoils it all, then I'm done lol. The other Xmas I stopped to hold the door for an old lady with her little trolley and she stopped for a natter because there was a young girl with 3 little ones we talked to coming through with loads of shopping, then another 2 women with loads of bags, all said thanks etc and we all moaned about how busy it was lol then a young lad about 30 or so just walked through, not a smile, cheers mate, nothing, he just looked at me like I'm a doorman😔😔it really gets me that some people don't even have basic manners, I just said to him, oh your welcome mate, no problem as he walked past
Most boaters are friendly, but you always meet someone who is not or is inconsiderate.
sallyu1 - I agree, people are what they are, but most boaters are considerate and helpful.
A different hat, no more cap, ( it suits you more i'd say ).
Thanks James. I have a selection of hats for different occasions, the cap is still worn but generally when cruising, I wear the ‘cowboy’ one.
He was a nob
