Awesome! It was great to hear your explanations and understand how you solved this. The puzzle itself is interesting too, I like the way you're allowed to rotate the piece around to align the two pieces correctly.
Thank you! I thought it was a neat puzzle too. It's a 2 star in terms of difficulty, according to Hanayama, so it's not very hard, but it was a lot of fun to solve! I really like the idea of needing rotations but blocking them in most cases, so you have to use unusual orientations to remove the pieces.
next time you do a blind solve, if you're gonna edit the video down you should have a timer in the corner to show how long it takes you. great stuff none the less, i find these videos so satisfying.
It took me somewhere between 10 and 11 minutes, according to the amount of footage I took. Not super fast, but I was happy with the time! Next time I'll time it!
FLEB i think editing the videos down is definitely the way to go then. saves having minutes of you just randomly twisting and going down dead ends. the timer would be cool though.
A few commenters have suggested that I fast forward through the boring parts, which I think is a slightly better solution than just cutting it out. We'll see next time!
I'm really fascinated by historical furniture with hidden compartments like Roentgen's cabinets. Seeing these puzzles and puzzle boxes reminds me of his work. Pretty interesting stuff, and fun to watch. Cheers.
I'm glad you enjoy it! My goal is to use every Saturday as a "puzzle review" video, and then to use the week for videos on whatever puzzle topic I feel like talking about. The history of puzzles and other, more obscure puzzlemakers, are definitely in the list of things I would like to talk about!
These videos are the bomb dot com man. I've bought about 10 puzzles myself in the last few weeks and I've already solved them all. Thanks for what you do!
A lot of the Hanayama cast puzzles have very similar steps to this one, requiring you to rotate and re-insert the pieces in order to solve it. A similar puzzle to this one (which was far more difficult) would be the Hanayama Twist. It adds a maze to it, which was very interesting to me. Another unique challenge would be the Hanayama Marble, and one of the more difficult ones would be the Hanayama Enigma. I recommend all of them (really, all Hanayama puzzles are pretty fun). Also, really loving RYB. Really well-designed.
This was so entertaining that I had to stop watching and go look for that puzzle! I stopped the video before the solve, so I hope that you enjoyed it. Thanks for this!
I definitely think you could make this into a common series. It was unique to see how you broke down the situation. Hopefully you come across more unique puzzles and continue a series like this
I think it's so cool how you're so into these puzzles! you've got me to start working on a few of them and the Equa puzzle is frustrating me to no end but I've solved five others from hanayama
Very interesting to actually get an idea of how you approach these problems. I like the method of splitting something complex into smaller parts. I will try this for my next Hanayama puzzle. Thanks!
I'm bad at puzzles, so it's neat to see someone good at it using their methodology. I guess I could say from this video that step one is find the end point and step two is to break the whole puzzle down into smaller steps.
Yep! Two come to mind immediately. 1. I was gifted a custom puzzlehunt for my wedding, which consisted of 20 some puzzles and a 4 foot x 2 foot x 2 foot box filled with electronics. My wife and I are stuck on the last puzzle, but we'll hopefully solve it this month! 2. The last puzzle of the Maze of Games is really difficult. At last year's GenCon, I talked to Mike Selinker about it, and he told me that I was the closest to the answer out of anyone he's seen, but I still haven't solved it! A few months ago, the "Lotus Box" would have been an answer to that question, but I finally sat down and worked out what I was missing.
I love your puzzle videos, keep doing it :) i though first you will do that puzzle blindfolded like the rubik's puzzles, i was thinking what a crazy guy i like it. I'm totally crazy about the cast collection, i own 36 puzzles at the moment and with your method i hope i'll manage to solve even the hard ones.
Thanks! The cast collection is great! I'm going to try to do some puzzle techniques videos here soon, so if you can't solve the hardest ones yet, maybe in a little bit... :)
Great job! Yes, a timer would be nice showing the total amount of time, even through edits. Also maybe even annotations summing up what you are saying, i.e., "1. Main Goal - Flip 180°".
Nice video Paul! I enjoy watching the solve of several different puzzles that bring to your channel. Do you have any more puzzles coming that you have created?
I finally finished nemesis factor in my "perfect score" run I ended up with 995 I didn't notice it doing anything different from when I used the hint button in my previous runs but it has been a week. But now I am curious what happens if you actually end with a perfect score of 1000. But I am putting the puzzle away fro a while I am burnt out. Thanks for introducing me to the awesome beast and all the other puzzles on your channel. I can't wait to get some more fun things you recommend.
995 is a very good score! Wow! But yeah, take a break. I can tell you what's supposed to happen if you get a perfect score, but I haven't done it myself. I'm going to try a 100% run in a few months myself.
I am pretty happy with it. I was kinda hoping to get 999 but at the same time that would have been soul crushing. I don't want to be spoiled on what happens but is it different than a non-perfect score?
I'm going to continue the series, but I think I'm going to film the next World Puzzle Grand Prix I solve and then comment over one of the puzzles. That way, you can see what competitive logic puzzle solving looks like!
Hey fleb, i really like your puzzle solvings and one of my favourite youtuber. frm where did u got this puzzle im really intrested to solve it by myself and should experience something new. :)
Sure! I mostly design puzzlehunt puzzles for competitions. Here's an example: www.baphl.org/15/static/puzzles/puzzle_1-8.pdf The answer is an English word or phrase!
Have you ever actually thought about doing a puzzle blindfolded? Not a blind puzzle or anything but maybe a puzzle that you have solved and think is fairly difficult. Maybe one that involves looking into small spaces or so? i think that would be pretty neat to try out. Even if you have already solved it.
Hey Fleb like your stuff. Im an aspiring puzzler my self, where would you recommend I start? Where do I even get some of the cool puzzles youve got? Thanks and keep up the good work!
I can't tell too easily because the pieces are never oriented the same way, but it looks like the two halves are identical to eachother? Is that correct?
Hey Fleb, have you ever tried a puzzle game called The Witness? The puzzles all follow the same formula, but with different rules introduced over time and different layouts. It may be interesting to try. It's $12 if bought on Humble Monthly right now :)
You did a lot of nearly doing the move and then backing up instead of completing it. For example at the end you rotated the piece the way you wanted, but instead of trying to pull it out you went back and redid the rotation to check if it went the way you wanted it to. I probably would be trying to pull it out after every move. Is there a reason you aren't doing that?
This puzzle is "maze-like", so I wanted to make sure I knew where I was in the maze and could back out to a position I was pretty sure was correct. When I undid that move at the end, I wanted to make sure that the move was doing what I wanted it to. I could have pulled it out at that point, but I was just being careful!
I know it doesn't relate exactly to the content of the video, but how do you store all your puzzles? Do you keep them in their original packages or in a custom made box? Great videos anyway! Before seeing your channel, I've never realised how many mechanical puzzles are out there! Thank you!
I have a set of drawers that have a lot of puzzles, there are a bunch on a shelf, there are a bunch in a pile in the bedroom, there's a bunch in a pile on the desk, there's a bunch in a pile on top of a really big puzzle... maybe I should organize them better? I don't keep the original packages, but if it comes with instructions I put them in a few folders I use for puzzle documents.
It's an interesting insight into your thought process in solving a new puzzle, but the camera going out of focus combined with the very reflective surface of the puzzle makes it hard to see exactly what's going on. I hope to see more blind solves in the future!
i do some rubik's cubes and i wanted to star puzzles cause i find that very interesting i just wanna know where do u but these puzzles (keep up the good work)
Oh, I think I saw one of your comments in the "Hanayama Spiral" and answered it. This one was also a part of that order (which was several years ago, I'm not sure if they still offer it) It often takes quite a bit of work to find a puzzle you're looking for!
I haven't broken a puzzle beyond repair, but I have a pile of puzzles that I need to fix. Most recently, I was showing someone the "Gold Coast Parking Meter" puzzle and accidentally got the little wooden piece lodged vertically. No idea how that happened!
Fleb!? How long have you been solving and collecting puzzles? By chance do you teach for a living? You solved that puzzle quickly and explained it quite well!
I've been solving and collecting puzzles as long as I can remember, but there's another milestone I recently past which I remember better. It's a few months past ten years, at this point, since I wrote my first puzzle! I'm glad you liked the explanation!
Nice one! you are really good in solving :-) I remember when I waw small I played with my friend´s puzzle called "the hedhehog in the cage" and I was fiddling with it so long I actually somehow took it out of its cage and I run to my family crying I broke it :D
my family laughed at me and my dad actually knew this puzzle (it is one of the oldes puzzles in Czech republic used by a comix creator whose antagonist hid a secret blueprint into The Hedhehog and whoever takes him out can have the blueprint) so my dad put it together. Now I have my own one in my room too :-)
You should try that puzzle, I would love to see the video of you getting the hedhehog out of its cage because it is said in the comix you can´t get it out without a hint where to start:-)
Thanks for leaving the "OOPS" moment. I got a good laugh. And thanks for the blind solve; it was awesome seeing your methodology. I hope you do more!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm planning on doing more!
Awesome! It was great to hear your explanations and understand how you solved this.
The puzzle itself is interesting too, I like the way you're allowed to rotate the piece around to align the two pieces correctly.

That is a great idea! I can't believe I didn't think of that!
Approximately how long did it take you to solve this one?
It took me somewhere between 10 and 11 minutes, according to the amount of footage I took. Not super fast, but I was happy with the time! Next time I'll time it!
FLEB i think editing the videos down is definitely the way to go then. saves having minutes of you just randomly twisting and going down dead ends. the timer would be cool though.

I love how wholesome this channel's comments section is, all the time.
I've always heard that RUclips's comment section was awful, but people have actually been really nice! Lots of interesting questions!
FLEB, you are one of my favorite RUclipsrs!
Thank you!
I'm loving your content man! Another thing you could talk about is the history of puzzles and best puzzle makers. Keep uploading!!!
Fleb, you are the best puzzle solver on RUclips. I enjoy your videos very much, and I hope you keep making them.
how do you do this blind. even i need to look at the puzzle while solving!
I didn't do it blindfolded or anything like that. The "blind" part of "blindsolving" means that it's the first time I'm ever looking at the puzzle!
Riza Nugraha This gave me a good chuckle!
FLEB, hahaha, I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm lol
Have I been bamboozled?
You have indeed sir!
These videos are the bomb dot com man. I've bought about 10 puzzles myself in the last few weeks and I've already solved them all. Thanks for what you do!
I'm glad you enjoy them and thanks for watching! Happy puzzling!

I really enjoy seeing your thought process in solving puzzles. Verry methodical and intelligent thinking 12 steps ahead. Great video
This was so entertaining that I had to stop watching and go look for that puzzle!
I stopped the video before the solve, so I hope that you enjoyed it.
Thanks for this!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
fleb whats that word again that means a word that says something else when read upside down? i want to see the spelling of it plz
ambigram
+UnityDog Ambigram?
FLEB thank you
A blind solve? That sounds hard!!!!
I definitely think you could make this into a common series. It was unique to see how you broke down the situation. Hopefully you come across more unique puzzles and continue a series like this
*Professional puzzle solver and maker haven won big tournaments* *Drops puzzle*
That actually messed up my solve, as I lost the orientation I was holding the puzzle in! A little embarrassing, but I thought I would leave it in.
It was funny. :)
CrazyRussianHacker : " Hey guys today i will solve chekain"
I think it's so cool how you're so into these puzzles! you've got me to start working on a few of them and the Equa puzzle is frustrating me to no end but I've solved five others from hanayama
Thanks! I've actually never solved the Equa puzzle! It's on the backlog, though.
I don't think I've ever watched somebody's RUclips series with interest before, but I'm really into this channel.
I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Big fan of this episode. I would love more blind solves
Very cool. This could totally be a new series on your channel!
I'm hoping to continue it! Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting to actually get an idea of how you approach these problems. I like the method of splitting something complex into smaller parts. I will try this for my next Hanayama puzzle. Thanks!
Go for it, and let me know how it goes! Good luck!
I'm bad at puzzles, so it's neat to see someone good at it using their methodology. I guess I could say from this video that step one is find the end point and step two is to break the whole puzzle down into smaller steps.
Exactly!
I really enjoy these, makes me think it'd be a great hobby and good fun to try and confuse my friends. Keep it up!
That was awesome to watch! Loved it and keep up the good work.
I like what you're doing, FLEB. Great channel.
Thanks!
I like puzzles like this one which has solid pieces to them unlike ones that include strings/chains or hoops.
It took me half the video to realise he wasn't going to be solving it blindfolded
FLEB - these vids are legit! thanks for taking us through your steps....any puzzles you have never figured out?

Nice video Paul! I enjoy watching the solve of several different puzzles that bring to your channel. Do you have any more puzzles coming that you have created?
I'm working on a puzzlehunt book and a new video game. More on that soon!
Wow, this was great! I hope you do more of these in the future :)
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm going to try to continue it!
I loved having an insight into how you solve puzzles. There's clearly a logical method there that I never tried to apply when I was little... D:
Thank you!
It would be nice having an amazon link or some store link to buy the puzzles.
love the blind solve. more please!
Will do!
Other than the color, are the two pieces identical?
Yes! If I had noticed that during the solve, I could have saved myself some time.
i like this format. as other have suggested, a timer or fast forwarding through boring bits might be nice.
The sentence below is true
The sentence above is false
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
( ͡⊙ ͜ʖ ͡⊙)
( ͡◉ ͜ʖ ͡◉)
I find this stuff really interesting. any recommendations for those who wanna start doing these? like places to get them?
did you cut out a part for some extra thinking at 3:35 when you cut after dropping the puzzle?? ;-) :-)
While picking up the puzzle I accidentally knocked over my camera, so I did cut out an extra part, but it was mostly for setting the camera back up!
DUDE! I just met Michael Stevens of Vsauce and he asked if I watched your channel! He and Adam Savage are in town for Brain Candy Live.
now that's some quality content!
Great video. I found this really helpful.
Can we get 300 likes to continue this series!
I'm going to continue the series, but I think I'm going to film the next World Puzzle Grand Prix I solve and then comment over one of the puzzles. That way, you can see what competitive logic puzzle solving looks like!
That would be awesome!
That would be one of the best things ever
Hey fleb, i really like your puzzle solvings and one of my favourite youtuber. frm where did u got this puzzle im really intrested to solve it by myself and should experience something new. :)
I definitely thought this meant you were solving it without looking. Still cool!
Can you do some more Puzzles of the Year so that I can analyze even further?
Sure!
Do you have a place you buy these from? Maybe if you recommend a store you could get a sponsor from them for send people their way.
I love this channel
You say your a puzzle designer. Have you made any puzzles, can we see them? Or you could just tell us about your ideas.
Sure! I mostly design puzzlehunt puzzles for competitions. Here's an example: www.baphl.org/15/static/puzzles/puzzle_1-8.pdf
The answer is an English word or phrase!

I really like you're videos and wish I had the money and hook ups to do these puzzles you're very inspiring
love how you dropped the puzzle :'D
Hey Fleb like your stuff. Im an aspiring puzzler my self, where would you recommend I start? Where do I even get some of the cool puzzles youve got? Thanks and keep up the good work!
I made a "recommendations" video with some mass-produced puzzle recommendations! Link: ruclips.net/video/PqULAIz4hIM/видео.html
Do more first time solves! This was awesome
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I am planning to continue this series!
You are a super good puzzle solver my man
Thank you very much!
Fleb you're the best!
Hey FLEB! You should do a video on what you had to do and what interested you in becoming a puzzle designer. Just a thought :D
where do you buy the puzzles?
I can't tell too easily because the pieces are never oriented the same way, but it looks like the two halves are identical to eachother? Is that correct?
They are! I only noticed that after I solved the puzzle, or I could have solved it more quickly!
would it have be more difficult had they be made to have the same colour?
It would be a little bit more difficult, because it would be harder to keep track of the orientation of the pieces, but it wouldn't be that bad!
Hey Fleb, have you ever tried a puzzle game called The Witness? The puzzles all follow the same formula, but with different rules introduced over time and different layouts. It may be interesting to try. It's $12 if bought on Humble Monthly right now :)
Yep! I love the Witness! I also met Jonathan Blow when I was showing my game at PAX East last year. Great guy!
Oh good to hear! I can only imagine how the meeting went, master creator and master puzzler. :D
Awesome solve! Keep it up homie
Thank you very much! Will do!
Your gentile and calm nature while doing these puzzles is infuriating.
Nice. Where could someone get one of these?
This is by Hanayama, so it's available lots of places. Searching google for "cast keyring" should bring up a couple places where it's sold.

Thanks for the answer! No, it's perfectly fine the way you keep them! It's that I always try to keep my stuff as organized as I can. Ahah!
Where do you buy these puzzles?
It's an interesting insight into your thought process in solving a new puzzle, but the camera going out of focus combined with the very reflective surface of the puzzle makes it hard to see exactly what's going on. I hope to see more blind solves in the future!
lets get this out on a tray. nice!
Great job but did you get the secret word or phrase from it? ;)
can you do the vector ball
i do some rubik's cubes and i wanted to star puzzles cause i find that very interesting i just wanna know where do u but these puzzles (keep up the good work)
Oh, I think I saw one of your comments in the "Hanayama Spiral" and answered it. This one was also a part of that order (which was several years ago, I'm not sure if they still offer it)
It often takes quite a bit of work to find a puzzle you're looking for!
do you dab on a daily basis? this an extremely important inquiry that you have to answer immediately for the sake of humanity....
I'm more of a once-a-week or once-a-month sort of dabber. I used to dab on the daily but the inside of my elbows got sore.
Random question: Have you ever broken a puzzle before?
I haven't broken a puzzle beyond repair, but I have a pile of puzzles that I need to fix. Most recently, I was showing someone the "Gold Coast Parking Meter" puzzle and accidentally got the little wooden piece lodged vertically. No idea how that happened!
you are a nice person and i like your videos... thanks fleb
Thank you for the kind words! I've been in a bit of a slump this evening, and it really cheered me up!
blind solve- are all puzzles solved are actually the second solve and not the original solve?
where did you get the name fleb from?
I wanted a one-syllable name for writing puzzles, so I combined certain parts of my name, and thus FLEB!
you should do a live stream where you do blind solves
this is very insightful thank you AAHHA //*drops puzzle*)) that mustve made it harder omg
It did! I completely lost my orientation!
I thought when you said a blind solve I thought you were going to do it blind folded ;)
i'm impressed!Nice vid:-)
Thank you!
is mayonaise an instrument?
No, but I think horseradish is?
I thought you'r gonna do it blindfolded
do you like puzzle games like submachine?
I'm glad you liked the explanation!
is it good I saw how to turn it before he did
Yes!
cool i was one of those commenters that requested this :)
Awesome! It was a lot of fun to film, so thank you for the suggestion!
The level of methodology you use is impressive. Are there other areas in your life you feel have been impacted by using your brain in this way.
great puzzle :D
Thank you!
look into revomazes
Nice one! you are really good in solving :-) I remember when I waw small I played with my friend´s puzzle called "the hedhehog in the cage" and I was fiddling with it so long I actually somehow took it out of its cage and I run to my family crying I broke it :D
Did you ever get it back in the cage?
my family laughed at me and my dad actually knew this puzzle (it is one of the oldes puzzles in Czech republic used by a comix creator whose antagonist hid a secret blueprint into The Hedhehog and whoever takes him out can have the blueprint) so my dad put it together. Now I have my own one in my room too :-)
That's awesome!
You should try that puzzle, I would love to see the video of you getting the hedhehog out of its cage because it is said in the comix you can´t get it out without a hint where to start:-)
You sud make a legomini puzzle box
can you solve my life puzzle?
Who's standing behind you watching in the door way?
