- A few clips from the last time you saw S.Y. Persistence, including lifting the main engine and boiler in, as well as a quick update on progress. As noted in the video, we've steamed her "on the hard" and have worked out several bugs. Closer and closer to getting her feet wet.

It's nice to see the updates still trickling in. Too many really cool and unique boat projects go 4 years without an update, then get a "for sale" followup with no progress since the last update. I'm glad this one looks like it's going to get finished. Best of luck from Texas!

Thanks! It has been a long time coming! Especially with the allowed working hours being pecked away at and shortened every time there's good progress made... 3 steps forward, two back.
What a great accomplishment, you and your Dad are to be commended.
Thank you very much!
Chipping and painting. I did a lot of that in the U.S. Coast Guard. Every time we came back to home port (every 90 days) it was chipping and painting. WOWSERS! I sure hope that you enjoy it! The boat looks great and It would be nice if we had things like this in the U.S. I don't recall ever seeing anything like this. Best regards to all.
She's awesome! A lot of work done since the last video I saw of her. Keep the updates coming. This is a true inspiration to me, makes me want to build a steam yacht.
dgmarklin Do It! Might be prudent to start with a small steam boat first though. Visit www.thesteamboatingforum.net for more steamboating info

Wesley what a nice tour through you and your fathers adventure ... amazing :-)
It's really nice to see this coming along. I look forward to seeing it under steam.
+Pistol Pete Thank you Pete!.. Ask and you shall receive: ruclips.net/video/hfr_dJMAPPk/видео.html
Brilliant! Well conceived, well laid out, and well done... Quite a project...Good for you both!
I'm not brave enough to tackle something like this so I'm really looking forward to watching your further adventures.
Thank you Earl! He just tackled it like you eat an elephant... one bite at a time.
We enjoy watching your videos and look forward to updates as well!
Heh it's funny you've named it Persistence; that was the name of my first steamboat! Took lots of persistence to get it done! ;-)
SteamboatEd Haas I didn't know that Ed! It has been 13 years since he got the hull, hence the choice of name Persistence for her as well!
Absolutely incredible Wes! I am so proud of your Dad. You two have been making lots of progress. I seem to remember your Dad using a chemical on the aft portion of the hull that rusted the metal so that the paint would adhere to the surface, as well as the epoxy paint in the interior. Could that solve the issue on the topside metal where it is flaking off? When are y'all christening her?
+TunTavernWarrior2 Thanks! He's come a long way with her! Many thanks for the helping hand you provided as well.
I believe you're referring to ospho(sp?)... We'll be stripping off the chipping paint, treating the steel with that, and re-painting. Projected launching is this spring....
+Wesley Harcourt Thanks. And tell your Dad thanks for allowing me the privilege to work for and with him. I seem to remember one day after work after grinding off the interior rust and paint, all you could see of me was the blue in my eyes. There was a lot of ribbing by my friends when I got home. I will always remember working on that grand lady of a ship.
Haha, great story and great memory!
Great video!! Is she sailing already?
diogo magalhaes Thank You! She is not yet. We had some trouble with getting her registered and insured. All cleared up now, and waiting for the shipper.
that's great news :) hope see her in thw water very soon
diogo magalhaes Thank you. We are too. It has been a long journey.
with a happy end. :) you guys must feel pround for the great job you done with the ship. Have a nice day and a merry christmas!!
We are. Thank you very much. Merry Christmas!!
What horsepower is that engine by chance?
+C.L.LocomotiveWorks We've estimated somewhere in the range of 25-30 hp It's a Canadian Doty compound dimensions are 5+10x6"
It now has a hard-anodized aluminum Low pressure piston with step-cut piston rings and balanced high and low pressure d-slide valves
Is she going to be in the water this summer?
Yes she is! Just finishing up the fuel tanks and registration!
Can't wait! I'd love to tackle a project like this one day
