Man, Japan has some amazing marketing folks. I know this is a funny takeaway from a video about roller coasters, but that ad with the chanting and the people being flung towards the camera really sells the idea of the ride in a fun, funny, exciting way.

After hearing the "Do-Don-Pa" chant/tune, I was waiting for the "Buddy, you're a boy, make a big noise Playing in the street, gonna be a big man someday You got mud on your face, you big disgrace Kicking your can all over the place, singin' " ❤❤
Big Queen fan!! Been to see the stage show We Will Rock You twice, took my 14 year old Son the 2nd time, he was 10 months old the first time I saw it lol, would go again tomorrow if I could ❤️
This was the only rollercoaster I've been on where I actually blanked out for half a second during the launch phase. There are instructions all over the ride telling the rider to not lean forward at all and to have your hands on the arm rest before and during the launch. Those injuries were definitely caused by not following instructions.
I think if we want to make a coaster with this acceleration again, the launch system must included headrest and back switches, until all occupants pressed their head and back firmly on the switches, it wouldn't launch. That's the only way I think will make it safe.
Unfortunately, it may have actually violated OSHA regulations, and was thus unfit to operate. However, the park continued to lie to people until they found the perfect excuse to absolve themselves of guilt and remorse, with the rollercoaster being scrapped entirely and letting nature reclaim the land.
Having rode Do-Donpa in 2013 one thing I can say is the seats in the more modern trains might be a reason. When I rode the seat back was very straight and designed so you leaned back into it to brace your neck and spine. The more modern seats appear bucket style, which may constrict movement to dissipate energy. (I was back row so this might be a skewed perspective) Amazing ride when I went, literally like being shot from a cannon. You go from nothing to blitz so fast you can't scream. The top hat was also mental, despite being around 118kg at the time, I still leapt way out of my seat, to the point I was ready to re-enact the worst of Theme Park on a 90's pc XD

I'm quite sure that with the Do-dodonpa refurbishment the launch didn't only increase in speed but also decresed in time from 1.8 to 1.6 seconds... wich just makes it even more insane xD
I rode dododonpa a couple of times in 2019 and had no idea there was any danger on it. The first time I went on I was on my own and I was shocked by the power of the launch. After riding the other coasters in the park I went back for seconds and met another tourist and convinced them to buy a fast pass and we rode it together. While waiting for the launch the other person was turned talking to me and I said to them "you probably want to put your head back for this" and a few seconds later we were shot out of the tunnel! I dont doubt that someone could get injured if they were positioned awkwardly during the launch
5:38 I have to correct you there cause it works the other way around. The central tank the pressure tank which shoots compressed air in the 4 cilinders on each side of the tower. Each cylinder has a piston which is connected to a cable, having the cart held by a cable on every side of the tower. You did got it correct that its using the cylinder pressure to weigh the cart. I've operated one of these rides for several seasons as my main So I got to know the mechanics of it quite well 😂
I almost got to ride Top Thrill Dragster back in 2018. Of course, it broke down for the day a few minutes before we were going to board it.. After an hour wait. Every time i went after that, it was either closed or had a huge wait. Then the accident happened..so I missed that opportunity. I am looking forward to riding Top Thrill 2 this year, though!
Same but back in 2006. Closed because of a thunderstorm then was broken the rest of the weekend. Never went back sadly and missed out. I did get to ride Disaster Transport so… there’s that. (Not the same level of cool I know…)
I never got to ride this one but I did ride Hypersonic XL. It was a truly weird experience - it felt like my brain was a second behind what was actually happening. Right after the launch it looked like the track just ended, but then I realized we were on the vertical tower. But by the time I registered that we were going down, and before I could catch up we hit the brake.. I think it must have been like that for most people as everyone looked terrified right before the launch and ended up laughing hysterically at the brake like WTF just happened. :D
Idk how, as a coaster enthusiast, I missed the news of dododonpa closing permanently, but I am entirely devastated to hear about it by seeing a video posted by expedition extinct. 😭 What a jarring video to receive on my feed. 😭😭😭
I’m too old and too wide now to ride -anything-. What I wouldn’t give to have my old bony ass back so I could break a bone on a ride instead of from passing out and falling down all the time. I got tickled when he talked about “waaay back in the 80’s” like it was some prehistoric time.
I rode Dodonpa when I went to Japan in July 2018...the launch definitely felt like being rear-ended by a semi! One of the few coasters I felt genuine fear before riding, but was honestly a really cool experience~ I actually felt that Eejanaika is more dangerous...the inversions are very intense, and there are warnings about spine misalignment. I wasn't in my seat perfectly for my second go-round, and did have a little back pain afterwards lol.
That is by far the best quality footage of Moonsault Scramble i have seen, you can really tell how fast it was, over 6 gs i think. Crazy for the early 1980s. Thanks!

I've been on both versions of this ride. When you got blasted out of the tunnel it sure felt like you got pushed hard in the chest but man it was great!
As a small child I remember one of those very fast "neck break" roller coasters that was white and red with a demon horse theme on it, but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it or the park. I was too little to ride it but I remember watching it take off and it scared the hell out of me lmao
I rode Do-Dodonpa in 2014, and I definitely remember feeling a bit unnerved by how bumpy it felt, but I just assumed that was me being a bit of a wussy.
Xclerator at Knotts is the fastest launch I've ever been on. It claims 0-82 in 2.3 seconds. Idk but it feels pretty fast to me lol. I'd really like to ride Iron Gwazi and Steel Vengeance someday.
It's a really solid launch, and still one of the harshest. To give you an idea of how intense this was, its updated acceleration was nearly double that of Xcelerator (~1.7G compared to ~3.3G).

I think that the problem was the transition to a new set of tracks. Hopefully, Fuji-Q and S&S learn from their mistakes, and take another bite at that apple to create another insane coaster. Hadn't heard it was closed permanently yet, and while not quite unexpected, still sad. Have been to Japan many times now, and going to Fuji Q was still on my list.....but I left it out of recent trips just because I wanted to wait until Do-Dodonpa would be reopened....
If you ever find the time, would you consider making a video on places like Mount Olympus or Noah's Ark in the Wisconsin Dells? I haven't been able to find any historical videos about either, and it's my home state 😢
Great video! Thankfully I've been on Stealth and Maxx Force so can say I've definitely ridden the fastest accelerating coaster. Even though Maxx Force didn't feel that fast.
Reminds me of Dream World's Tower of Terror (Queensland, Australia) with its electronic acceleration, a decade before Superman The Ride. I was there when they were first testing it, and the Japanese park owner was standing there watching with a smile on his face. The sound of the ride I'll never forget. It was like a Tesla Coil from Red Alert charging up. You blasted out of the tunnel at high speed, sped through the park in a straight line, and straight up this huge tower, before falling back down again. Brilliant!
Sadly, I don't think a launch like Do-Dodonpa will come for a while. The fastest accelerating coasters are often maintenance nightmares like air-compressed launches and hydraulic launches. Today parks want to play it safe and are fine with settling for less. Just take a look at Top Thrill Dragster (2)! I'm just surprised that in 2024 engineers still haven't figured out how to get a fast accelerating launch (hydraulic or air-compressed) while making it reliable (LSM) at the same time.
Time to go park up in the outside lane of the autobahn hoping to get rear ended by a car travelling 110mph i guess!? RIP Dodonpa. This has to take the crown for most bucket listed coaster never ridden.
My bucket list coaster was The Beast. I remember seeing on Travel Channel shows in the early 2000s. Finally Finally crossed it off my list last July! The night ride with lightning in the far distance may be my favorite coaster experience ever. Not necessarily my #1 favorite coaster but so worth it and very high up on my list. Not sure which is next on the bucket list but I've only ever been to US parks and Canada's Wonderland.
I got a chance to ride The Beast with my dad when I was a kid. I was amazed how it just seemed to go on and on and I had never experienced anything like it. That coaster and day is now a treasured memory.
Weird thing is that when I heard this coaster's name, I thought it would be themed to Tenshinhan from Dragon Ball (considering it's a skill he and the Crane School uses). Guess I now know where Toriyama got the name for the technique now. Thanks for the history of the term on top of the coaster history
I'd also be skeptical of anything from China. Based on their coaster industry, while it's come a long way, it still lags behind its European and US rivals. I don't think any of them are capable of world record beating coster designs... yet.
Hello Expedition Themepark, is it ok if you shout out the channel: "Adventurous Aaron' in your next video as it's a rolocoaster channel that thrives to be as good as yours! The channel regularly visits Alton Towers and many other UK themeparks. The channel's aim is to get well known by many themepark lovers like your community. It's fine if you do not see this but it with make my day if you replied. Thanks!
I feel so upset for the one woman who was interviewed on the news after sustaining a neck fracture. Coaster bros decided she must have lied because she didn't realize how serious the injury was right away and went about her evening, so naturally she was blamed and harassed for talking about having her neck broken. Because obviously, the one thing that always convinces corporations to scrap billion-dollar rides is a singular person saying they got hurt.
I agree with you about Rita. Its awful, i was still vibrating for days afterwards and im pretty sure it was the reason my left shoulder can now pop out.
Super death speed, well technically they should have said acceleration instead of speed 😄but yeah this is one coaster I really wanted to get on too. It is weird how after so many years people started getting injured on it. Wonder if they would have retracked the entire thing that would have solved the issue.
rode dododonpa a few years ago. the launch was insane. the rest of the ride was very bumpy though and gave me a headache. very sad to hear of its closure
It's sad when a ride closes and you never got the chance to experience it or worse you said i will do it next time then the ride closes and you can only day dream about it 😢
I still don't understand why they didn't reduce it from super death speed to just regular super speed. Until they introduced the death part they never had an issue.
The transition into it was really jarring and really threw you around. I don't think the culprit of the injuries was the launch, as much as it was the rest of the layout being quite rough.
"Air Powered Vertical Coaster looks too intense for me" -EDIT: YES LANCE!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was like there is no way he's in this. I've ridden that coaster and it's slow as sh^t. Although I could see a breaking bones similarity. Great Vid as always Mate!!!
I understand hearing the "Do-Dodonpa" chant over and over would drive you crazy..............for me it's like hearing the small world song over and over at Disneyland....used to drive me nuts..a good song but I got tired of hearing it over and over....and over time I stoped going on the ride.

Brilliant!
Dueling Dragons for me. I didn't get to hear about it until after it had closed and I wish I could have ridden it lol.
The reason for disqualifying Maxx Force is stupid. It rolls out but then comes to a complete stop for quite awhile before the launch.
Thanks for the history of the term on top of the coaster history
that primm call out got my jingles janglin
Hmm, air launch coaster...
I think there's a lot of theme potential there. Can anyone say "naval aviation?"
Paramount take note: This screams Top Gun.
I'd also be skeptical of anything from China. Based on their coaster industry, while it's come a long way, it still lags behind its European and US rivals. I don't think any of them are capable of world record beating coster designs... yet.
Awesome video as usual!
AMAZING intro on this one, dude! You're hitting a real groove with these!!
Why do I love these videos ?!
Idk their mid
Rode this in 2008. The beginning acceleration is the ride essentially. And it was intense.
Good memories.
What is replacing Do-Dodonpa? Do-Do-Dodonpa, with an LSM swing launch and a new 520-foot tall back spike tower.
I agree with you about Rita. Its awful, i was still vibrating for days afterwards and im pretty sure it was the reason my left shoulder can now pop out.
I love Rita (and Stealth) but didn’t realise that it genuinely hurt when ridding in the rain. Felt like 1000s of tiny pins.
Isn't there a Ferrari coaster in Dubai that goes like 150mph or something?
This was about fastest acceleration, not top speed.
If it was America, they’d probably reopen it and market it as deadly on purpose. 😂 I definitely would want to ride it even with the risks
It's sad when a ride closes and you never got the chance to experience it or worse you said i will do it next time then the ride closes and you can only day dream about it 😢
I still don't understand why they didn't reduce it from super death speed to just regular super speed. Until they introduced the death part they never had an issue.
I haven’t been to Maxx Force yet, but I will later this year.
Same here.
I give up! Waiting for the Super Death Speed Rollercoaster!!! I'm out!
Wasn’t this the other hypersonic XLC? Sorry posting this before video is finished lol
That's insane!
I hate how I went on the wrong day (year ig), went last year but do dodonpa already sbno, well at least i got to see it in person
It's gotta be SOMETHING with the loop. Bones weren't breaking before that was added, there's SOMETHING there.
The transition into it was really jarring and really threw you around. I don't think the culprit of the injuries was the launch, as much as it was the rest of the layout being quite rough.
Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point was fun and now there's a new one called Top Thrill 2.
can't wait to ride it!
Guess I’m remortgaging to make sure I don’t miss the velocicoaster
"Air Powered Vertical Coaster looks too intense for me"
-EDIT: YES LANCE!!!!!
The correct answer is Ring Racer 0-99.4 MPH in 2 seconds
Did anyone else get the "We Will Rock You" vibes from the tune/chant?
Let's see.
