    Hello Sir! I got one of these guitars back in 2017 and followed your videos step by step to modify mine. Aside from the pickup upgrades (the Wilkinson’s were NOICE, but some fender noiseless strat pups make the maple sing), I’ve changed the saddles at least 10 times for different applications. Thank you so much for documenting your work 🤘🏽

      Yay! I'm so glad it helped! I always worried that the videos were too long and/or boring, so thanks. :) Mine has Fender Vintage Noiseless as well: ruclips.net/video/PSIC4hJk9M8/видео.html The Wilks were WAY too noisy for Rocksmith.

      Billkwando too long or too boring? I watched these RELIGIOUSLY for 7 months or so & check back every now and then for nostalgia. I mainly use my Prince tele for jamming to his music, but I have a couple songs out where it’s used for the solo or rhythm guitar sections. Man, I don’t know how to thank you for the help

      I've just started making them again, just did two test runs yesterday. Send $12 to billkwando@yahoo.com and I'll hook you up. Will take a couple days to send out maybe, cos I have to get a book of stamps.

    I want to put original Bill Lawrence S1 and S3 pickups on mine one day, also swap out the rest of the electrics. Yours sounds great and that playing was outstanding, thanks for sharing this video with us Prince/MadCat fans.

    GREAT work on the guitar and the solo. Thanks! Eye bought mine with Fender Tex Mex pickups from sum one on Reverb and eye LOVE it. The pick up covers r white and so make me think of him shining through from the other side of the Experience... Eye also hand painted the pick guard (u can find me on here playing it sumwear) as my cathartic goodbye. With wonderful pricing and the sound of THOSE pick ups, eye will DEFINITELY b purchasing another. Wear do eye get that authentic pick guard material u have? Thanks, again 4 b ing a BLESSING!

    Looks great! I still have mine after 2 yrs and fiddle with it at my office when I’m bored. I chose to order the clear w/ spots pickguard from scratch it and used a thin maple veneer underneath ( to hide the wire routing cavity ) shellacked to match the guitar. It came out really nice but you took yours to another level ! I’m planning to use Bill Lawrence pickups ( S1, S3 ) like the original MadCat and eventually make the mods to the headstock, I really like the work you put into yours. I plan to sand the neck down a little since I’m having trouble with the current thickness. Do you think I could knock about 3/16” ( or less) off the back of the neck without ruining it?

    • @Billkwando
      @Billkwando  2 года назад

      Probably! Lots of folks sand their neck, in general, but haven't heard anyone mention this guitar.

    Thinking about getting one of these. What all mods did you have to make? Obviously the pickgaurd and the pickups. Which pickups did you go with? And did you have to change tuners or have to do much fret work?

      Hi there! They have an ugly black strip up the side of the fingerboard now, so be warmed. To answer your questions...
      1) New pickguard, new saddles, new output jack, Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups, and neck shim (shim done at a pro shop, to fix the neck angle to match the saddles).
      2) Old Ibanez tuners, when I switched my wife's tuners to locking....figured stock Ibanez tuners have to be better than stock HB, lol
      3) No fret work at all

    Any updates on the leopard straps? I’ve been looking for a decent replica for years. The ones out there are just too way off.

  • @BeauregardHall
    @BeauregardHall 5 лет назад +1

    Did you ever upgrade the tuners? I got one of these about 6 months ago, love it, overall, but want to upgrade the tuners. Can I just buy regular old telecaster tuners, and they'll go in?

    • @Billkwando
      @Billkwando  5 лет назад

      I got Gotoh locking tuners for my wife's Ibanez, and took her old tuners (which were fine if you didn't whammy) and put them on my TE-80. Any Asian-style single screw replacement tuners should work, but tele tuners almost certainly won't unless you wanna drill new holes.
      Before you give up on the stock tuners, try LIGHTLY tightening the tuner buttons on the top, as loose feeling buttons don't necessarily mean the tuners themselves are loose. Tighten the buttons and they may suddenly feel awesome.

    Have you ever tried replacing the neck? I have one of these and heard that the neck pocket is not the same spec as a telecaster so you can't replace the neck. I think the neck is the thing I want to replace the most right after the electronics. Because boy, she's chunky and well there's a knot in the wood at my 12th fret that just doesn't look that great.

    • @Billkwando
      @Billkwando  6 лет назад

      Maybe a strat neck? I think it's been done. Maybe you could shave or sand the current neck?

    • @derred723
      @derred723 5 лет назад

      i believe a lot of Harley Bentons vary from the original they are inspired by. For example the neck may be centimeters in a different spot. Or the volume controls, etc. thus the pick guards from a tele, strat ect might not be interchangeable with the original tele pickguards. I've seen that often you can mod these but you might have to resarch ways to make things fit.

    Hey ! im considering doing nearly exactly what youve done, i may even try and put in a middle pickup in. any advice or tips from your experience ? also what were the costs of yours ? did it turn out as good as a hohner ?

    • @Billkwando
      @Billkwando  4 года назад +1

      The videos literally are my advice and tips. I've only even handled a Hohner Prinz, and they were basically identical. If you're thinking about a third pickup, just get a strat.
