When I first started I never would have thought there would be such a big difference in just a simple ratchet. I have some good Mac ones now and they’re a dream to pickup and use.
Yes Mac makes some really good ones,no doubt,I just tend to focus in the middle road, for the most part, but not always!! Thanks my friend for your input!!
Those Dewalt closed head, flex head ratchets are the best kept secret in wrenching. In my opinion. Top notch for build quality and toughness and functionality. Easily my favorite ratchets. (I have the 1/4 and 3/8 now. Edit: bought a brand new Capri flexhead in 3/8 and it feels great, works fine...but the switch lever tics when it ratchets. Doesn't seem to effect performance... Thanks, Jeff! Nice recap video!
Dewalt has a small head, which is nice!! i didnt care for the handle but the ratchets works good! it comes down to ones preference!! i have had other brands of ratchets were the reverse lever moves or ticks, like you said, usually doesnt affect the preformance!! thanks my friend!!
Great recap. On DeWalt, since they are owned by Stanley -Black and Decker, I'm not surprised with them having their own branded hand tools. Stanley still makes some decent tools and use to be one of the top hand tools company in the US.
Black and Decker used to make some of the best power tools but look what happened to them when they moved production offshore. I have a few vintage Stanley USA tools and they are pretty good. Not like what they are churning out today.
I have to agree with you DeWalt and Milwaukee they just remind me of carpenter tools Etc but I think my two favorite ratchets up there I would have to go with the new gear Ranch and the tone I own both of them and love them my question is for you who sells the longest Half Inch Breaker Bar I need something and I just don't want a 3/4 so thanks for another great show and you take care of yourself
@@jefftovani5535 have really bad carpal tunnel and arthritis in hands, wrists and forearms. Small grips make me squeeze harder and over long periods of time, create severe cramps and also causes me to continually drop stuff. Gearwrench handles are too small. Not 2 mention different color choices are nice when comes to finding things
Jeff I liked the recap I've recently picked up the new style GW xp120 ratchet being able to see it on your channel I was able to see some of Gear wrenches changes to the ratchet a little better and it helped me determine that I liked it and I wanted to purchase it. Thanks again my friend for taking the time.
Good re-cap. I've got 2 or 3 in this lineup. When it's below freezing and I'm in my unheated garage, my favorite ratchet is the el cheapo HF full plastic composite one. It doesn't freeze my fingers off. :D
Great series, 👍 can't wait to see what you come up with next. Missed a few that I would have liked to have seen (Proto, SK, etc.) but I do understand the financial constraints. Keep up the good work, thanks for sharing. 👍
Yes Jeff, my 1/4 gearwrench has that same ball detent issue. And I don't like it! But I still love the ratchet. I noticed the sockets with the deeper chamfer does allow the socket to go on deeper
Thanks for the info as always, Jeff. I base a lot of my tool purchases on your reviews/opinions. Olsa Tools now sells an Olsa USA-made ratchet. That might be interesting.
Thanks, Jeff. I got a love/hate relationship with your videos. They are great at exposing us to tools we may not have considered before, but I hate how they fuel my new found tool addiction, LOL.
This was a very good series, I have a few of these ratchets and thanks to this video series there are a few more im going to add to my collection like the genius ratchet
Powerbuilt 649950 1/4 flex head with quick release is one of my favorites. Same ratchet as Tone with the exception of the contour handle (which I love)
That’s a nice collection. I only have 3 1/4” ratchets. I need to step up my game a bit lol. My 3/8” selection is about 8 or so. It’s funny I tend to go for the same one every time. I am very fond of my Icon ratchet. No complaints and very smooth.
You got probably enough ratchets!! dont go by me,i have a addiction with buying them,i just love ratchets!! i did a icon flex-head ratchet,i forgot to put it in,lol!! thanks my friend!!!
I own four of the 13 ratchets you have here - Genius, Williams and the two older Gearwrench models - as well as a few others not shown here, such as the Carlyle comfort grip locking flex-head. More than enough for my semi-pro needs, anyway!
Yes i rememer your a transmission tech! and boy you are rite soft grips do not like tranny fluid, there not found of antifreeze and some oils as well!!! thank you my friend for joining in!!!
This was a great series! Could you possibly do a series looking at locking jaw pliers ( I have a set from Malco which are awesome but they stopped production on them.)
Yea that will help!! ive done that with other brands as well!!that williams is a tank, the backdrag is a bit more than most ratchets,it will loosen after you use it!!
That Gearwrench detent ball was an issue on mine…I thought. I went through the Gearwrench warranty process, got a different one and the detent ball was in the same spot. I looked again and I was using a Craftsman socket. It was cut totally different. Very loose! I tried a Gearwrench socket and it is a perfect fit.
Thanks for telling us that!! so there sockets fit better, interesting!! i do know from other socket brands that some do fit better on then others on certain ratchets!! i think the old craftsman sockets were never really tight fitting on even there own ratchets,at least with my experience with them!!! thanks my friend!!
@@jefftovani5535 the Craftsman socket I found having the loose fit was a 5/32” deep to fill in my socket rail. The Gearwrench socket set I bought was lacking that size. I picked it up from Lowe’s - probably Taiwan made. The bases are totally different. I just couldn’t have an empty spot on my socket rail. 😁
Hey Jeff another great video. I like my Sata comfort grip ratchet (Sata is made by GearWrench). The other cool ratchet I got based off a toolbox from an airplane mechanic was the Titan gearless micro ratchet. I also have a long handled Vim I got on a whim. Still not sure how I feel about it.
The older style work just fine!! i used the older style for 10 years!!! the newer style are nice, really super small design!! thanks happy, hope all is well!!!

It may be just me, but I can't stand that push button lock on the new 120xp locking flex heads. Much prefer the lever on the 84t / 90t. Since I'm a professional mechanic I gravitated mainly towards Matco and Koken ratchets. They're a treat to use.

I enjoyed the wide selection you showed. I am a big Tekton and Gearwrench fan. I think that both are great companies and carry great products.
Both good choices!! i own a lot of ratchets, and tekton and gearwrench are some of my favorites!!! thank my friend!!
Definately the Williams for everyday use and Gearwrench also. Nice review
Williams is a solid choice!! thank you!!
I’m definitely not a mechanic, but I try to do as much as I can to save some money and your channel really helps me choosing the tools that I need
Glad to help, thanks for joining in my friend!!
The grip on the genius reminds me of the old Snap-On hard handles, They slide right in your pocket.

Thanks for the recap video on the 1/4” ratchets. I just can’t get over the handle on the Dewalt either. Thanks Again.
Yea im not big fan of the hanle, feels wierd!! thanks for the feedback!!

Great series. I was looking for a good ratchet, and thanks to your review, I ended up purchasing the Tone and glad I did. Thank you.
tone is a fantastic choice!! thanks my friend for joining in!!
The Eastwood stubby flex head looks like my current favorite Craftsman USA made from years ago. I see my next favorite right there.
Eastwood is made in taiwan, its decent ratchet!! stay tuned!!
Thanks for the great 1/4 ratchet review. Really like that tone ratchet.
So do i!! nice little ratchet!!!! thanks my friend, stay tuned!!!
Great videos Jeff. It helps influence our purchases.
Yea just try to show you Guys options!! closest you guys can see would out buying it!! thanks for watching!!
Great comparison video. I do need to get one of the Gearwrench long handel I like the looks of them with that small head.
Thanks Jeff

I just picked up the Williams 1/4".. very nice
I've got just about all of these..🤔
I don't have the cheapies..(Eastwood, PT,etc...)
Perfect timing. I am in the market for a new locking flex head ratchet. Leaning towards Gearwrench
Good choice! ill be doing more series on the flex-heads,3/8,1/2 drives!! stubbies, long as well as regular length! stay tuned!!
I'm pretty happy with the gear wrench 120xp. No problem with binding. I just make sure to not over torque with it.
Thats a very nice ratchet!! cant go wrong with that!! stay tuned!!
The back drag on them gearwrench 120xp locking flex heads are by far some of the best back drag ratchets iv ever seen better than my 72t koken!

Also the gearwrench 120xp have some of the smallest heads
Great recap. Thanks for what you do.
Thanks for watching! stay tuned!!
