  • Did you know that many orangutans have been taken from their mothers and thrown into small cages to be taken as pets? It is one of the saddest things, and I often don't talk about this topic, because it's so upsetting. But, several years ago, my friend and mentor, Dr. Gary Shapiro, became a father figure for a baby orangutan who was left orphaned by humans and did something miraculous for the first-time in the wild; he taught an orangutan sign language!!
My new RUclips video is part of my very popular RUclips book reading series. where you can watch and learn about this orangutan, Princess. Sylvia M. Medina, has done an outstanding job of turning this very difficult topic into an enjoyable children's story. Make sure to watch all the way to the end so you too can learn sign language from me, The Kid Conservationist! Teachers, parents, and friends, watch and share this video so we can spread the story of Princess the Orangutan.
