I love Ultraviolet. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes due to it's story, performance's, music, direction, action sequences, and cinematography. Milla Jovovich did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Violent Song Jat Shariff did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying as she put tons of emotion and depth into her role. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it decent. It never gets old.😍😎👍💯
We can thank Sony for ruining this movie. They literally made the director change much of the script and his vision for this movie instead we were given an action movie instead. This movie was supposed to start off slow paced and start picking up as we continue on with the movie as it's intensity picks up. And this movie was supposed to be a lot more gory than what we got here.
I really felt bad for Milla Jovovich because she is worth more than these type of movies. She has amazing martial art skills, her acting capabilities had improved over the years, and she is a visionary. Hollywood always put her in bad movies. Tbh, she could've been a perfect Marvel Black Widow.
Her and Jason Statham are incredibly talented action stars that are unfortunately underappreciated because they kept having bad luck with the movies they chose to play in.
I had no freaking idea that an anime even existed. Incidentally, Wimmer's previous movie, Equilibrium, was also a huge hit in Japan, to the extent that gunkata still shows up in a ton of Japanese media to this day. Gen Urobuchi, the writer of Madoka Magica and Fate/Zero, even wrote fanfiction for it in the form of a short kinetic novel.
Mila is the best part of it. Sad to hear she had such a horrible time making it. In doing research for this, I really came to admire her as a an actress and a stuntwoman. She's incredibly dedicated and the textbook definition of a good sport.
I love this movie. It kinda like my my guilty pleasure. I know many of the CGI looked bad, but i love the weapons fabrication bracelets and the colors changing clothes and hairs. Also they spoke Vietnamese, my mother's tongue; if you're from a non-english speaking developing country, you'll know how hyped i was.
i love the colorful shots the most. the contrast and the almost platonic perfection of early 2000s hollywood sets is such a cool enigma to me. this movie is a reflection of that. I also wonder if the game mirror's edge took inspiration from this movie in it's art direction. Maybe that's a stretch though
Hi, I loved your video because I see that I've finally found someone who more or less shares the same opinion as me about this movie. I've always loved Ultraviolet and I really admire the way Kurt Wimmer created this universe and what he tried to do with this film. It will always frustrate me that I'll never be able to watch the original movie as the director intended it to be seen, but I found on an old blog the testimony of someone who claims to have seen the more or less complete work during a test screening, I believe. This person explained that there were indeed more scenes with Violet's husband trying to talk to her at the complex where the government is experimenting on her, but he can't reach her. He screams for the guards to let him see his wife, whom he sees from afar as dead... There were also funnier sequences, I think, where Violet asks what color the next room is (referring to her clothes changing color according to the room), or during the fight with the white ninjas, when she sees them, she says something like, "What the hell is this?" and the fight lasts longer, if I remember correctly. At the beginning of the film, when she's fighting against the other vampires, she cuts off someone's hands with her sword, and she sees the same person later in the church with bloody stumps, also, if I remember correctly... Not long ago, I found Kurt Wimmer's Instagram account. I sent him a message to tell him what I thought of the movie, and he replied, thanking me and saying that he was touched to see that I understood his vision. He also mentioned that he hopes the studio will one day let him release his complete version of the film, including finishing the special effects. So, I concluded that the special effects in the current film aren't actually finished.
I put here the blog post which describes some missing scenes : Hey, everyone. :) I'm sure most of you will be going to see ULTRAVIOLET this weekend. I just got back from a showing here in Los Angeles and I figured I'd start a thread discussing the various differences between the cut that was screened last February, which I had the opportunity to see, and the finished product. Some of the changes are pretty insignificant while other scenes changed the way the film was structured. I'll list as many as I can remember either way. The rough cut of the movie ran about two hours in length while this new version clocks in at 88 minutes. There will be spoilers contained within so please tread carefully. The Beginning The opening narration is a bit different in the finished version. In the rough cut, Violet explains that "Hemophagia" was an aberration that spread like wildfire, turning humans into vampires but not the kind you've come to expect. The Hemophages would become stronger and faster than normal humans but they wouldn't feed on blood. They did grow fangs and constant blood transfusions were required to keep themselves alive, but their lifespan would also be significantly shortened once they became infected. Death would come ten years from the point of infection for anyone who contracted HPV. Various Bits When we were first introduced to Violet it was mentioned that she was living in the last few days of her life. I believe she had a little over 24 hours before she was supposed to expire. The scene where the detectives are investigating the attack on the blood lab had a bit more dialogue, mostly a few lines where a seasoned cop berates a younger officer for using the term "vampires" to describe the Hemophages. I don't recall there being an electrical discharge when the swords or various items are pulled out of the dimensional pockets (flat space). The shot where the cop pulls out a sword from the chest of a dead Hemophage and then slides it back in looked and sounded nastier in the rough cut without all the sound and visual effects. There was also a few more snippets of dialogue in the scene where Violet, posing as the courier, is trying to gain access to the weapon developed by the humans. We see her clothes change into the color of whatever room she's in and when asked by one of the lab technicians if she has any more questions, she replies, "What color is the next room?" The fight that takes place after Violet's cover is blown was originally extended. The sound effects of bones breaking and people screaming in pain are missing. Also missing is a scene where Violet punches a guard who is wearing the translucent body armor. Her first hit does nothing so he taps his chest and says, "Shatterproof armor, bitch." Violet responds by hitting him harder and knocking him backwards, shattering his chestplate. There's also some dialogue missing from the guards who slide into the room with the stun batons. Something along the lines of "Wait! She's armed!", followed by Violet pulling the trigger but having no ammo left, then the guards get all confident and rush her. That's when she disassembles the rifle and beats them with the pieces. Also, this fight was the most heavily edited. It didn't flow as well without the dialogue and the bits that were missing. Several characters including the lab tech/government guy who speaks to Violet as she's exiting the facility with the weapon as well as the blonde motorcycle courier had their voices dubbed. The motorcycle chase up the building included a scene where we see a room full of office employees inside get shot up by the stray fire of the helicopter guns. When Violet opens the package to reveal Six, he is originally seen lying in a pool of bubbling water, not the bright blue animated static that you see now. Daxus had a longer introduction with more dialogue. We learned that he's got a serious problem with germs. He wears a pin striped suit that goes beyond the sleeves to cover his shoes and hands. You see an entourage of people sanitizing everything for him while he is being briefed about the theft of his weapon by one of his underlings. When Violet snatches Six and tries to make it out of the building, she is chased up the stairwell by a few vampires. One of them yells out, "I'm gonna kill you with my bare hands!", so Violet leans over the railing with her gun and shoots his hand off right at the wrist. I loved this scene. That same Hemophage is seen later in the mausoleum fight with Nerva and his men, cradling his bloody stump and looking mighty pissed at Violet. There is a small scene missing where Nerva makes a quick deal on the phone with the Blood Chinois, the Asian gangsters from the rooftop scene, to corner Violet before she can escape with Six. That's why they suddenly appear out of nowhere when she reaches the top of the building. The scene where Daxus and his soldiers storm the level where the Hemophages are shooting out the lights was longer. When it goes dark, we see the entire room lit only by the flashes of gunfire (very similar to the opening of EQ) as Nerva and his goons surround each soldier and pump them full of bullets. This goes on for a minute, getting all dark and quiet between kills, before Daxus quietly calls out to his troops and the emergency lights go up to reveal them all scattered and shot to death. The scene where Daxus picks up the coffee showed a bit more of his hands shaking, making him seem less confident and the precision of his kills all the more surprising. In one scene, Six asks Violet if she has teeth like a vampire. She opens her mouth to reveal fangs and says that she has to grind them down or they grow back. When Six "dies" in the park, his body was sprayed with foam and taken away by the guys in the funky hazmat suits. The Flashback Here's the big one. There were several flashbacks towards the end of the movie. It happens right after Garth brings her back from the dead if I'm not mistaken, and it mostly shows Violet as a young nurse and her husband, the doctor (Ricardo Mamood). Violet is played by another actress, one who looks similar to Milla Jovovich. During the opening montage at the start of the film we see glimpses of this woman in a lab being poked and prodded by scientists, looking very miserable and stripped of her dignity. This is when we discover that the woman is actually Violet from ten years ago and we see how she contracted the virus. A disheveled looking Hemophage enters the hospital room where a very pregnant Violet and her husband are having a quiet moment. The vampire is trying to steal some blood and gets into a scuffle with the husband before being shot and killed by security. The blood splatters and hits Violet in the face, getting in her eye and pretty much altering the course of her life forever. I do recall a scene where the husband is arguing with some government guys and asking to see his wife, then discovering that their baby was either terminated or lost to the disease. I'm pretty sure I didn't dream that last part up but I swear it's the only scene not stored in my memory banks. We then cut back to the present. After she leaves Garth on the night of her resurrection, she goes to see her husband. She doesn't actually meet him, just watches him quietly from a balcony outside a fancy restaurant or concert hall, my memory is bit fuzzy on the details... anyway, she sees that he now has a lovely new wife and some children. He smiles at his young daughter and touches her face when a tear drop hits his hand. He looks up but Violet is already gone. The Ending The guard on the rooftop that is seen at the very end of the trailer actually gets decapitated in the original cut. Violet storming enemy HQ was also extended a bit. In the scene where Violet starts attacking that second wave of soldiers during the library fight, she stabs one of them in the balls with her gun-blade and flips him backwards (that one got a great crowd reaction). The "white room" fight also had a little injection of humor with that last guard going all crazy and doing the flip in the air, which was hilarious, and Violet looking up at him confused and mouthing the words, "What the fuck?", before killing him off. The fight with the flaming swords had a much better build up. As soon as the room gets dark, Daxus begins taunting Violet. We hear the sound of a sword slicing and Violet screams out in pain. Daxus: "Oh, come on. That wasn't so bad." We hear another attack followed by a scream. Daxus: "Okay. That was pretty bad." That's when she starts creating the sparks to ignite the sword. That was pretty much it. Many of the problems that I had with the original cut were actually fixed with the removal of certain scenes while the action suffered a bit with the toned down violence. The film didn't have very much blood other than a hand being shot off or Violet's fingers getting sliced, but I'm sure this was shooting for an R-rating. Also, the soft lens effect that makes everything in the film appear slightly blurred was not used in the version that was screened last year. The CGI was incomplete but the finished effects make the film look dark and muddy.
There was a test screening of the film *Ultraviolet* on March 21, 2005, in Burbank, California, which is often mentioned in discussions about the chaotic production of the film, where unfinished versions were shown to gauge audience reactions according to ChatGPT XD.
This movie looks like a 2000's music video. It just did its thing, and failed (financially), I respect that. It has its very own charme, and made me laugh a couple of times, just because its so over the top. To be honest, not a bad movie, but probably not for everyone.
This wouldve made an awesome Netflix show. I truly felt that so much was cut from this movie and this video confirms that. There was just too much action. By the time she fights Daxxus, the movie is over and I feel like someone slapped me with a stack of DVDs. It answers the question " can a movie have too much action?". The answer is yes.
The second half of the movie has almost no action at all and that is without a doubt the worse half of the movie. The movie is at its best when it's doing over the top matrix-esque action scenes. You can argue that too much of the story was cut out, and that is a fact, but as I pointed out in the video the story wasn't exactly the most compelling thing on the planet, so it's not like including all of it would have made this movie a masterpiece. There are movies with more action and less story than this that are far better.
@@RandalltheVandal lol I have never seen a more stylized action movie like this. If you know of others, please list them. I have seen many movies made from all over the world. Also good video, pretty thumbnail.
I thought the weird fuzzy look of the people's faces was to signify that they had the 'vampire' virus; trying to make them look ethereal or more than human or something. I hadn't noticed if it had only been apparent in ppl w/ the virus and not in regular Humans or not and didn't care enough to rewatch it, but now maybe I will just for shits and gigs. Just from watching this video, I may be on to something
Nope. The effect appears on regular people as well. I may have only watched this movie three times, but in editing this video together, I scrubbed through its scenes enough times to know for sure there is no discrimination between vampiric and non vampiric characters when it comes to the soft-glowing effect.
@@RandalltheVandal That's disappointing; It would've been a kind of neat touch. I love all things relating to vampire-type stories and had hoped they had been trying to subtly differentiate between the ones w/ the virus and ones w/o. This movie feels like one big missed opportunity
Honestly if I was a billionaire who had too much money I'd buy all rights to this movie and in collaboration with Kurt Wimmer restore the original version of the film with updated VFX. Love this film and especially fight scenes. I've read somewhere that there are a small number of people who saw an original cut at some test screening probably. Among some of the noticeable differences they mentioned were the absence of blurry filter, blood and screams in fight scenes, more jokes (for examle during the fight in white room when one of Violet's enemies jumps over her and she watches him as he flies she says "What the f*ck"
love how Hell Above Water was used in this video!! curve is one of my favorite bands of all time, they’re so underrated. all their music to me perfectly fits these type of movies
At the time I was convinced you could make a trailer for any 2000s action movie set to Hell Above Water and it would be cool, so I went out to prove it to myself, lmao. The Spider-Man trailer that used the song is where I got the idea.
Excellent video! Unfortunately the only way to obtain the Unrated/Director's Cut of this film on Blu-ray is via an imported copy from Japan. The only other way to watch the Director's Cut is via the Extended Edition DVD. I'm a huge fan of Milla from watching the RE series, so I'm very much looking forward to watching this in all of its campy, gaudy glory.
@@MysticMayne I feel like the only way we'll ever see that 120min version is if the stars align and... A) all the footage still exists in decent quality B) a passionate boutique physical media label like Vinegar Syndrome or Second Sight get the rights to release the film and C) they get the director on board to piece the film back together again I would actually love to see this happen. This movie is very niche, and while it's not exactly a _great_ film IMO, it's a lot of fun and it would be really cool to see the original vision in its complete form. I totally want a deluxe 4K edition of this
I give a shit about this movie, it's stylistically pretty much like a cartoon/anime. I'm also a huge fan of Milla Jovovich. The action scenes and stunts are pretty cool. I do kinda think the smooth face effect is kinda weird to look at though.
Well my guy, we can thank Sony for ruining this movie. They literally made the director change much of the script and his vision for this movie. Instead we were given an action movie. This movie was supposed to start off slow paced and start picking up as we continue on with the movie as it's intensity picks up, all the way up to its finale. And this movie was supposed to be a lot more gory than what we got here. So in the end, the director does not like this movie nor does Mila. Solely bcos of Sony forced for an early release hence why its CG is bad and color. And trust me you'd say otherwise if the director fully finished this movie.. even tho you crap on his unfinished vision of style for the movie that it would've been
5:40 dude are you serious? I hand made these for covid! Daxxis is my favorite villian once covid hit I got to be Daxxis and have masks gloves all my money washed and in envelopes, clean pens... Omg im in heaven.
Yeah I literally searched videos on ultra violet. Just to see who seen how right his style is. Even drinking water was fresh. He would literally survive better than the United states president.
This is a cult, woman superhero flick with the attraction being the hot body, tight outfit and alpha attitude of Milla. The rest doesn't matter. At all.
Is it good? No. Is it bad? No. Is it worth $15 on Vudu? Probably not, but I've spent more on other movies, and was disappointed by my purchase. I didn't feel the same with this film.
Great commentary, very well put. I agree, Ultraviolet did kind of have a thin plot, and when I first viewed it I was like "meeah", and thought it had a weak plot. But then later on I was compelled to watch it again, and more after that. I can agree it has below par CGI and kind of an oversimplistic story, I still grew to appreciate this movie because of the overall feel of it. Perhaps the same as a movie version of Aeon Flux would have. Yes, it is a movie that did poorly at the box office but there are some who have always appreciated it. I wasn't trying to be like other movies, at least it seemed to try to blaze its own trail. Still like it more than a lot of the other sci-fi being done today.
It's worth a watch if nothing else than to see one of the most unique failures of the 2000s. Would definitely recommend the Unrated cut if you can get your hands on the DVD (or a pirated version of the unrated cut bluray released in japan).
TBH all I liked of it is the changing hair colors and outfits, neato, and well, Mila. Everything else was rudimentary and I could not get over the excessive Photoshopping of faces--blurry to the max and literally could not see any pores, wrinkles, or skin folds. Edit: If you like the saturated and bright look of the film to mimic a comic book, check out the 2013-2014 UK series 'Utopia'. It has an amazing soundtrack and visuals, including the storyline which I won't spoil.
Dude i love your videos about Aeon Flux and Ultraviolet. These were my favorite movies as a child. Could you also do a video about the movie Elektra? The one with Jennifer Garner I always thought its on the same level with Aeon Flux and Ultraviolet i really would hear your opinion of it.
I don't take requests, but I appreciate your kind words and in the future there will probably be videos on other critically panned movies form the 2000's.
Number of Weapons Found: MANY LOL The "You're all going to die." just before another bunch of goons were butchered off camera was pretty funny as well.
It seems that my whole life, I went to the movies to see the weirdest movies... Hunt for red october... Kate and Leopold... So many, and I saw Ultraviolet in the movies. We laughed at the weirdest scenes, it was funny at times but no one really cared about watching it. Heck, I remember very clearly what I was doing in the theatre that night hehehe
The alternative title of this pseudofilm should have been The Kill-Matrix-Resident-Aeon-Tomb-Bill-Flux-Raider-Evil Element Best thing was how good the body of the non-actress Jovovich fits into these ultratight outfits
@@RandalltheVandal I don't hate Jovovich. In fact, I really like her first films (Kuffs, Jeanne d'Arc, The Million Dollar Hotel, Dazed and Confused, He Hot Game, even the total crazy The Fifth Element), but her career crashed after that trash called Resident Evil
I actually enjoyed watching this movie years ago, when I saw it. I think I rewatched it over 3 times. Yes the story was meh, but it was a fun film to watch. I just now found out about, that there was an anime of Ultraviolet. I'll be sure to watch it

I think the main problem of the movie is that it's a movie) If it was a videogame, that would be a blast. Imagine a GTA-like openworld game, which takes place in sci fi dystopian future city and where protagonist can ride walls on motorcycle/car and use various sci-fi gadgets. What's more badass than that?
It works as anything BUT a movie. This needs a massive fanbase to get star treatment. Otherwise, nothing will look as A1 as its supposed to look. This wouldve been a great Sci fi channel movie, netflix show, comic, cartoon... Anything but a feature film.
Notice any similarities to Tron ? Or Shania Twain's portrayal being chased by a Transformer looking Evil Robot in the video. "Gonna Get You Good? Hmmm . . . 😎👻🎩
I call it a cult classic! I think it was done not half bad. It had that old comic script look at times. Story so, so. And Milla was just HOT! I really think people over THINK movies to much with microscope LOL! I notice the flaws in this movie, I call it character....
I haven't seen that film since the DVD-release. But Looking at the visuals and overall style... I am reminded of, of all people... Jodorowsky. I mean. If Wimmer wasn't so hell bent on making a commercial low brow crowd-pleaser... he might have had some career making arthouse flicks.
What is the reference at 13:00? It sounds like "a non-stop action extravaganza in the vein of something like Hirayogi Imeishi's Promayer" but I can't find anythi--- wait, scratch that, it's Hiroyuki Imaishi's Promare, found it. Yeah, the pronunciation in Japanese is more like "Puh-ROW-mah-ray", there aren't silent vowels like in English.
The look of the film I think has to do with showing how people with a vampire disease that makes people in a way superior to what they were yet even more vulnerable might experience their reality - stark, striking. I recently watched the movie again simply based on the cool name - UltraViolet - and the actress being so good at portraying warrior women characters. This time it occurred to me that the boy, Six, is Violet's son not a clone, and that she was an experimental victim before she knew. She may have been given fertility drugs (not a miscarriage but removing the fetuses before they got big), and her husband may not have died like she was told. I liked the fiery sword showdown with the control freak who violated her. In another probability Violet makes a deal with him to let him live if she can save the other 7 kids (2 of them may have been the husband's - notice her tear dropping on unsuspecting happy family). The vampires reminded me of some of long past aristocracy - the distant husband not wanting the wife/mistress taking care of the kids herself - she was not to be motherly but a sex object. So sweet to see her and Six bonding on the playground.
Never considered the possibility of Six being her biological son. It's an interesting theory but I'm not sure it's really supported in the film. It could have been in the OG cut, but the only way to know that for sure would be to read the novelization.
It's not a confusing movie. Hollywood is a business. Milla ran her mouth and the producers messed up her movie. Is it ironic that this was her last big budget role? This is business, this is NOT art. You have to go to private parties to see these actors true art .
Its baffling how bad this movie is. For reference, I **really** love Equilibrium. It's such an interesting concept that really makes you think about the world, characters, and their actions. Plus, it also has awesome action scenes, even if they are kinda goofy. When watching Ultraviolet, I can see the similarities here with the authoritative government / action scenes, but yet it's just executed so poorly. This is a great video that pretty much breaks down the movie's shortcomings so well.
This is just my opinion and opinions are subjective. But Milla Jovovich, in my eyes, is a lot like Ron Perlman; she's not a very good actress and 9 times out of 10, if she's billed on a film, I already know what type of film it's going to be before seeing a single frame. I'm actually baffled as to why she continues to get work other than that she's not unattractive, there's a market for campy films and her husband is a Hollywood director. In point-of-fact, the only films in her 59 movie filmography I even think are good are The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc and the Hellboy reboot. (Yes, I'm one of three people who unironically enjoyed that movie...and I'm also one of those same three people who think that The Fifth Element is an over-hyped camp film that's not very good.) Funny enough, there are also only 2 live-action movies of Pearlman's that I like as well. Pacific Rim and a little-known film called Bunraku.
So you don't like the Pearlman/Del Toro Hellboy movies? What the fuck, man? But yeah, honestly, Mila is so great. Wish she could star in a good action movie. I think her main problem is that she married one of the shittiest directors ever, so she's basically obligated to star in all of his schlock.
@@RandalltheVandal Yeah. LOL. I know that it's blasphemous for me to say so, but I've never been a fan of the Del Toro Hellboy, but I loved the reboot. And I'm as sad about never seeing a sequel to that as everyone else is sad about never seeing a follow-up to The Golden Army. I'm a big cinephile, but I'm odd by most people's estimate in what I love. For instance, I tend to like most modern remakes over their originals. Not just Hellboy. For instance, I love (and greatly prefer) the remakes to: A Nightmare on Elm Street Total Recall Evil Dead Tomb Raider 3:10 to Yuma The Amityville Horror Get Carter Sleepless I Spit on Your Grave The Magnificent Seven Mortal Kombat Old Boy Point Break The Quick and the Dead Roots Tron True Grit Walking Tall The Wiz (The Wizard of Oz) And these are ALL films that were either commercially panned or that the movie-going public breathed a collective sigh at. But I love them because they're all generally more grounded or self-serious versions of their source material. (Except for The Quick and the Dead. That one is a bit over-the-top.)

I unironically love this movie all around. I love the aesthetic look, the SFX, the action, the plot, the characters, the dialog. I just don't find it ugly at all. And I don't find the plot and characters to be simplistic cookie cutters either. To me, the movie is deeper than it seems, but it's probably because I'm reading into it things that were never intended... ... To me, this movie is about AIDS/HIV, and especially the early panic and stigma. It wasn't just the christianist homophobes either, even if they were the most vocal and vociferous. "Mainstream" society in general just wanted to segregate the AIDS victims away from society, absolutely paranoid about any contact or possibility of contagion. They just wanted the victims to go away and die. And so many died. So many died. To me, it's really meaningful that Ultraviolet's hero, Violet, was one of the good health care providers. One of the nurses that were willing to help the infected. Do you have any idea what that freaking meant during the AIDS panic? It wasn't like with COVID, where the health care providers were hailed as heroes. Back then, the doctors and nurses willing to care for AIDS victims were seen as filthy disease carriers. Okay okay, probably it's just me, and none of this was intended. But it still affects my emotional enjoyment of the film, and the nuances I perceive in various details.
Yeah sorry, Im an apologist for this type of women kick ass bafoonery.... Who the fuck cares about the plot.... It's just an overstimulating eyegasm... Period.... Im here for the midriff, everchanging hair and costume, over the top action sequence, amazing weapon concealing thinggy (they're soo cool), the bang that ended the whole world, and of course the mix aesthetic between femme fatale and magical girl.... She is a queen... And I stan my queen
Its the art style and visuals i like shame the cgi was poor as i can see how it would've looked if it was made today this is where the cgi would shine for this type of film. Maybe go back to it and remaster it with the cgi from today's technology i would by it in 4k
I love the movie. Even though it appears they didn't have an unlimited budget, it still works. But really, the plot is preposterous. I mean, a medicalized totalitarian state and a rampaging virus. That's absurd. Milla never looked or fought better.
In my own time, hopefully sometime soon, I will explain where I have been and why I probably won't be making another video until 2022. But the short story is: I'm working on something. And it's not a RUclips video. That's all I'll say for now.

It never gets old.😍😎👍💯
You have all power in universe to like this movie... but plese don't call it inventive and unique... you almost killed me with that one
Shout out to Mila's midriff for making this movie bearable
Praise it
You better believe it! 🙌
Yeah, I didn't know either until doing research for this.
And cool fun fact. Love Urobuchi.
I remember renting this back when it came out on video and not really knowing what to make of it other than that Milla sure looked cool in it
Mila is the best part of it.

This would make a great comic book series. Maybe even a Netflix show with the art style of Castlevania would rock hard.
i love the colorful shots the most. the contrast and the almost platonic perfection of early 2000s hollywood sets is such a cool enigma to me. this movie is a reflection of that. I also wonder if the game mirror's edge took inspiration from this movie in it's art direction. Maybe that's a stretch though
It wouldn't surprise me if mirror's edge did take inspiration from it I'm glad to have the extended DVD I personally love this movie
Fantastic video. This is exactly what I was looking for when I was checking RUclips for an in-depth on Ultra Violet.
You're welcome! I actually didn't think there'd be many people as interested in the production as I was, so I'm glad my video could be of service.
I put here the blog post which describes some missing scenes :
Hey, everyone. :)
I'm sure most of you will be going to see ULTRAVIOLET this weekend.
The Beginning
The opening narration is a bit different in the finished version.
Various Bits
When we were first introduced to Violet it was mentioned that she was living in the last few days of her life.
We see her clothes change into the color of whatever room she's in and when asked by one of the lab technicians if she has any more questions, she replies, "What color is the next room?"
The fight that takes place after Violet's cover is blown was originally extended. The sound effects of bones breaking and people screaming in pain are missing. Also missing is a scene where Violet punches a guard who is wearing the translucent body armor. Her first hit does nothing so he taps his chest and says, "Shatterproof armor, bitch."
Violet responds by hitting him harder and knocking him backwards, shattering his chestplate.
The Flashback
Here's the big one.
The Ending
The guard on the rooftop that is seen at the very end of the trailer actually gets decapitated in the original cut.
That wasn't so bad."
We hear another attack followed by a scream.
Daxus: "Okay. That was pretty bad."
That's when she starts creating the sparks to ignite the sword.

Ultraviolet is a guilty pleasure of mine. Apart from the horrible CGI on the helicopter chase scene, I thought it was a great movie!
I Enjoyed Wimmer’s other Films Equillibrium, The Recruit, Law Abiding Citizen, Street Kings, Total Recall Remake, And One Man’s Justice
love how Hell Above Water was used in this video!! curve is one of my favorite bands of all time, they’re so underrated. all their music to me perfectly fits these type of movies

Yeah, I'm aware of the Jp bluray, but as it's not a north American release, I decided not to spotlight it
Japanese import isn’t the true directors cut (120 minutes), we’ll never see that version
@@MysticMayne I feel like the only way we'll ever see that 120min version is if the stars align and...
A) all the footage still exists in decent quality
B) a passionate boutique physical media label like Vinegar Syndrome or Second Sight get the rights to release the film
and C) they get the director on board to piece the film back together again
I would actually love to see this happen. This movie is very niche, and while it's not exactly a _great_ film IMO, it's a lot of fun and it would be really cool to see the original vision in its complete form. I totally want a deluxe 4K edition of this

Great video, this has been on my watchlist for a while now
It's worth a watch if nothing else than to see one of the most unique failures of the 2000s.
I don't like the over-exposed blown-out look, but I am partial to its more colorful shots. Thanks for the recommendation.

If it was a videogame, that would be a blast.

I enjoyed the movie. Never believe the critics as it’s their own personal taste. It doesn’t represent people’s taste!

This was a great movie to test out my then new "Philips Ambilight for PC" set and configure it properly with all those wild colour contrasts! 🎉😅
@@RandalltheVandal sometimes stories have a life of their own
It's not a confusing movie. Hollywood is a business. Milla ran her mouth and the producers messed up her movie. Is it ironic that this was her last big budget role? This is business, this is NOT art. You have to go to private parties to see these actors true art .
I liked it too. Plenty to critique but so much fun to be had.
(Yes, I'm one of three people who unironically enjoyed that movie...and I'm also one of those same three people who think that The Fifth Element is an over-hyped camp film that's not very good.)
Funny enough, there are also only 2 live-action movies of Pearlman's that I like as well.
For instance, I love (and greatly prefer) the remakes to:
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Total Recall
Evil Dead
Tomb Raider
3:10 to Yuma
The Amityville Horror
Get Carter
Sleepless
I Spit on Your Grave
The Magnificent Seven
Mortal Kombat
Old Boy
Point Break
The Quick and the Dead
Roots
Tron
True Grit
Walking Tall
The Wiz (The Wizard of Oz)
And these are ALL films that were either commercially panned or that the movie-going public breathed a collective sigh at. But I love them because they're all generally more grounded or self-serious versions of their source material. (Except for The Quick and the Dead. That one is a bit over-the-top.)
@@samueltheprideofafrikarobi9319 you sir, are the definition of a snob lol. Milla's great
Good review. I actually want to re-watch it
We want a UV Wimmer's cut
Nah. Honestly, I'm good.
@@RandalltheVandal What? 4h30 of a rebuild trash movie? I'd ask for at least 6 hours to get the attention of the media
@@squarz Wimmer cut must be 10 hours long, minimum and must tie in with the rest of the WCU (Wimmer Cinematic Universe: Equilibrium, Point Break, Salt, etc.)
I would assume Kurt Wimmer’s Director’s Cut would atleast be 3 Hours not 6 Hours
@@devinharbert6071 it's a joke
I have watched this movie l thought that it was quite good 😊
if this was made now, the movie would look better
My problem is that Ultraviolet is an Ugly Film with Terrible CGI and Special Effects and all the Action Sequences are Rapettitive
Fair
@@RandalltheVandal Randall I would love to see a video on Kurt Wimmer/F. Gary Gray's Masterpiece Law Abiding Citizen which was Loved by Audiences (Including Myself) but was Panned by Critics when it was Released in 2009 but the only problem is the studio Mandated Shitty Ending but the rest of the film is Great and Well Written/Directed
I honestly enjoyed the ultraviolet movie it was different take on vampires. So I personally thought it was pretty cool.
Best movie review I’ve ever watched. Would totally have movie nights withchyu.
thanks
There was a Power Rangers series where they were all SWAT, and I think it took place in the future. It looks rather similar, imo.
Lmao, Power Rangers SPD? They straight up worked for a dystopian government in that show.
@@RandalltheVandal I guess they did, it's been so long since I've seen it.
@@kemasuk At one point I realized the whole show was on Netflix and I watched a few episodes from a few different eras. SPD is fucking scary dude, if you commit a crime the power rangers will show up, beat the shit out of you and straight up sentence you to the digital gulag on the spot by sucking you into their handheld jail cell. Very surprised the writers/producers of the show didn't think twice about making the Power Rangers authoritarian. It's very bizarre.
@@RandalltheVandal I also remember Turbo, where the Blue Ranger is a kid, who just gets tall with the suit transformation.
@@kemasuk That came out the year I was born so it was before my time. I watched Ninja storm/mystic force reruns, Dino Force, and SPD. After that, I fell off.
I like the movie, especially the visuals. Idc that the cgi doesn’t look realistic, I prefer it that way.
Fun Fact Milla Jovovich Punched Kurt Wimmer On Set
Lol, for real? You got a source on that?
I saw information behind the scenes that Kurt Wimmer asked Milla Jovovich to punch cause he wanted how it felt and that’s why she punched him on set I can tell they both Hated Working with each other
@@RandalltheVandal Well I Also Saw Information On how Kurt Wimmer has Disowned Ultraviolet Because Of Sony Re Editing The Final Cut and Cutting Lot Of Stuff that would have Made Ultraviolet a Better Film which are Left Intact in the Unrated Cut
@@devinharbert6071 In my own research, I couldn't find any interview where wimmer disowned the movie outright, but there's more than enough evidence to suggest that studio meddling in the final cut is a fact, so I wouldn't be surprised if such a quote exists.
@@RandalltheVandal I would like to see Kurt Wimmer’s Opinion on Ultraviolet Because I would assume that he probably hates it cause of Sony’s Interference And Re-Editing I don’t think it’s completely Wimmer’s fault because I can Kurt wanted to make a Good film

That's great. I'm glad the movie means a lot to you.
It reminds me of more about Aeon Flux.
Ok Maybe Ultraviolet is Kurt Wimmer’s Worst Film I Hated it too
AWESOME MOVIE !
💚 Blood chinois 💚
Just watch a low-res cam rip of it and you’ll hardly notice the filters!
For me: I like it but some of it didn't make sense. But, movies like this I do like and in joy them.
I love her soo much you don't even know hahaha....
Also i will tell my child this is the original Bayonetta....
lmao i love that movie...
I love the movie. Even though it appears they didn't have an unlimited budget, it still works. But really, the plot is preposterous. I mean, a medicalized totalitarian state and a rampaging virus. That's absurd. Milla never looked or fought better.
Why no new videos?
In my own time, hopefully sometime soon, I will explain where I have been and why I probably won't be making another video until 2022.
But the short story is: I'm working on something. And it's not a RUclips video. That's all I'll say for now.
